Amazon bids for Disney's 22 regional sports networks, including YES Network Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:43 AM PST Amazon's bid includes the New York-based YES Network, which is partly owned by Yankee Global Enterprises. Apollo Global Management, KKR, Blackstone, Sinclair Broadcast and Tegna are also making first-round bids for the regional networks, sources tell CNBC. Fox, which was seen as a front-runner to acquire back the channels it recently sold to Disney, did not enter a first-round bid. Amazon is bidding for all of the 22 regional sports TV networks that Disney acquired from Twenty-First Century Fox. The e-commerce giant's bid includes the New York-based YES Network, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC. It is bidding for the New York network along with an unknown sovereign wealth fund and the Yankees, the sources said. YES may be sold separately from the other networks. In addition to Amazon, Apollo Global Management, KKR, The Blackstone Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tegna also made first-round bids for the full slate of networks, the sources said. Fox, which owns the YES Network with the New York Yankees, was seen as a front-runner to bid for the nearly two dozen regional networks. They broadcast the games of 44 professional teams from Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. Fox itself did not submit a bid in the first round for the networks although there's potential that it will join in the second round, the sources told CNBC. Earlier this year, Fox sold some television and movie assets to Disney, which owns the sports channel ESPN. The Justice Department forced Disney to sell the Fox regional sports networks to get that deal done. Fox acquired its 80 percent interest in the YES Network in separate transactions in 2012 and 2014. YES is home to the New York Yankees and also carries Brooklyn Nets games. The second round of bids is expected before year-end and due diligence on the bids begins next week. CNBC was unable to learn the amounts of the bids. [link] [comments] |

What to do with limited funds? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 09:23 AM PST We were gifted $100 as a wedding present that was placed into an Ameritrade account. I'd like to find cheaper stocks that I can buy and basically forget about, especially considering the market right now is crazy. There's a few companies that I've looked into that are cheaper and pay dividends but I'm honestly not sure where to start. $100 won't get us far but I figured that the dividends could eventually be reinvested into buying more shares later on. Posted: 20 Nov 2018 04:47 PM PST For the past 3 months, BABA -18.49%, Tencent -22.87% AMZN -20.1%, FB -23.28% I really thought trade war might not affect the US stock market. I guess I was wrong now [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 10:57 AM PST I've been doing some cursory DD on Illumina and it looks like a good pickup to me, especially as it seems to be at a discount right now. (I know, many stocks are cheap at the moment - been buying V and MSFT especially as things have gone down.) I'm interested in others' thoughts on ILMN... good buy and hold? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:15 PM PST I have a 50k account in TD Ameritrade, that was being used to trade stocks off of TOS. After logging into my account on a friends computer, the entire account has gotten flagged for fraud. After, this had happened my "friend" informed me that they had an account frozen from TD Ameritrade, and potentially that due to that happening, and me logging into my account from his computer, now my account is being frozen for fraud... (I'm assuming his ip address was red flagged or something, and now they're screwing me for being associated/using his cpu)... I've talked to TD over the phone, and gone into local branches to discuss the matter but they are very limited into the information they are allowed to give me, and said the account had an investigation for fraud and that it is now over. However, the account is still frozen, and when I ask about a refund they won't even talk to me about it... When can I expect a refund? Will I even get refunded? They're being so sketch about the entire situation. I've heard horror stories of people not receiving their investments for more than a year after similar situations occurring. Is there anything I can do, or anyone to talk to? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:59 AM PST As the title says. The Fed will be selling back MBS into the market. Thoughts? Source: https://www.newyorkfed.org/markets/opolicy/operating_policy_181120 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:48 AM PST I have been analyzing a lot of companies lately. I am currently trying to make a theoretical forecast which is not suppose to be accurate. Whatever the company did last year (in terms of % tax rate) we'll assume that they'll do this year. This would allow me to calculate the net profit (basically the FCF which is quite important for my quantitative analysis/model). This process is easy to do for a company like Apple who almost always sees a 25% tax rate. But what if the tax rate fluctuates? And what if it does that A LOT? Take $AMD for example. The tax rate goes from 25% to 11% to 15%, back to 8% to 20%, I mean, how am i suppose to create a theoretical forecast with these numbers? How is it even possible to have the tax rate fluctuate by these margins? [link] [comments] |
Is anything a buy at the moment? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:50 PM PST In this time of uncertainty and with tech stocks taking a beating are there any specific stocks or ETFs you are watching? What's your strategy for the next ~6 months? [link] [comments] |
Restructuring my Roth IRA Schwab Investments Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:47 PM PST I just saw this recent /r/stocks post so I thought I would try as well. I'm in a slightly different position than the OP of that post so I feel it warrants a separate post. Let me start by saying that I don't know anything about trading. I don't know what people mean by "long" or "short", i don't know the difference between a mutual fund and an ETF - I only know that they're different from stocks by virtue of the fact that their a collection of stocks...I think. I don't know why some markets are better than others for different situations. I don't know what "bull" or "bear" means. And every time I try to look this stuff up, it just glosses over me. Nothing sticks. It never has. So now I'm in the position where I need to have been thinking about my retirement and don't know what to do with the money I have socked away, so I'd really love some insight from this community! I've had a Schwab Roth IRA for about 10 years now, and I've made (max) deposits into the account on and off for a total of about 7 times. Over that time I've been following their recommended portfolio allocation for an "aggressive" stance, more or less. I just made a max deposit for the year, and with all the news up in arms about losing everything that was gained in 2018, and with the possibility of another recession on the horizon, I'd like to make a smart decision about what to do with it. I'm definitely a "hands-off" type. I'm not going to try to play the market, but I don't want to throw money at things I don't understand. Currently, my portfolio is allocated as such:
I've been told I have diversified too much (what does that mean?) and should cut back on how many ETFs I have invested in. I don't know if this is good or bad, or where I should be investing. Should I put any money in individual stocks? Should I stick with ETF's and MF's? Should I hold on to the cash or put it somewhere? Please help! tl;dr: I have money in a Roth IRA and more cash ready to be invested but I don't know WTF to do and I'm [link] [comments] |
Is now a good time to buy nvidia stocks? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:04 AM PST From my own DD. I think this stock has a lot of potential for growth. I'd just like to see what other people think. Do you guys think now is a good time to buy? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Nov 2018 10:51 PM PST What are your guys thoughts on stamps.com ticker STMP. It caught my eye since it broke it's all time high of 18 years earlier this year, had a nice run up like most stocks would after breaking ath and has since been hit very hard losing almost 50% of its value. It looks to be showing signs of a bottom as well. It's one of the tech stocks I'm considering buying calls on for this dip, but it's a stock I haven't traded in the past/ even looked at and was wondering if you guys had any opinions on it. Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:30 AM PST What is best way to save taxes through January 1st since the 2018 stock market crashes has many of us are sitting on massive unrealized losses? Does selling on the 31st and buying back on the 1st of 2019 work as a loop hole? [link] [comments] |
Gold is acting much like the dollar did 8 months ago almost a buy. Posted: 20 Nov 2018 07:00 PM PST 8 months ago I was pounding the table to get long the dollar. Most people thought I was crazy. Now today I think gold is looking like a wise investment soon. Let me say I still think we see $1200 or slightly lower so this isn't a buy today. We are heading into one more rate hike by the fed. Then come next year economic data is going to be horrendous. The fed will be forced to not only stop hiking but become dovish. Im looking for gold to break out some time next year just like the dollar broke out this year. I'm clearly early here and think we could see $1200 or slightly lower but from there I think we have a nice base and it will be a good place to hide while there are some nasty times to come. (I also am building a position in TLT). [link] [comments] |

Question- how much farther down can the markets go? Specifically tech. Posted: 21 Nov 2018 06:36 AM PST Had an interesting debate with folks who are still long on FAANG (starting to really hate that term, by the way) and other tech. Despite everything being up at 9:34AM, I'm of the mindset that this is a blip and we're not going to see support until there's a collective drop of maybe another 30%. Thoughts from the board? Full disclosure, I'm still long on some of them, but have a bunch of December and Jan puts as defensive positions. [link] [comments] |
Day trading in the U.S. with 25K in account? Posted: 20 Nov 2018 06:34 PM PST Hello, Reddit! I got a question :P Before we start, I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm using Merril Edge and am in the US. So let's say I somehow manage to pump up my capital to ~25-28K. Assuming my account is in good standing and all, can I then start day trading (buying and selling a stock on the same market day), and if so, are there any limitations? I.E. "I can only buy and sell each stock once"? OR is it just total freedom of buying any and selling any stock I want without repercussions (assuming i always keep 25k in the account)? Sorry i'm semi-new and confused :) [link] [comments] |
Which platform to use? (Australia) Posted: 20 Nov 2018 03:41 PM PST Want to start investing in stocks, but have no idea what platform to use. There are so many. I'm in Australia. I don't plan to trade often. Mostly a buy and hold scenario so a per transaction fee is probably preferable. Any suggestions on which platform is best given these parameters? [link] [comments] |
how long do you think that the current downtrend will continue? Posted: 20 Nov 2018 10:29 PM PST I am not a stock expert, but as far as I know then the economics is doing just fine and improving a lot, so I think the market will soon start increase again. so Buy, Buy and Buy while they cheaper [link] [comments] |
