I won the golden ticket, best way to proceed? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 11:38 AM PST I'm Canadian and a year ago I embarked on a project to open a private cannabis retail location. I won a licensing lottery that was used to distribute cannabis licenses and have since acquired all of the required licenses and documentation to open a dispensary in a new building in a very valuable suburb. Because of stringent regulation, it's one of a very few stores in the area. Everything is in my name, and now I'm being approached by a wide range of cannabis companies who want to partner with me to open the store. Because I also work in branding and marketing, I was planning on opening my own store under my own brand, but I do see the benefit of working with a company that is specializing in this industry. While I have some of my own money, I will be needing a partner to finance the opening of the store. How do these arrangements typically work? What should I ask for and what should I avoid? I plan on working in the store, so I would be an operator/owner. The current frontrunner is offering a 50/50 split of net profits, minus a 7% gross royalty fee for the brand and marketing. Is this fair? Is that a typical deal? [link] [comments] |
Questions: Wedding venue on private property? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 06:25 AM PST In short, I am wanting to eventually buy a private home/land just outside the metro area (maybe 20-30min from the city) that can serve as both my final retiring residence, as well as harbor a reasonably-sized wedding venue structure in order to run a small business where I can enjoy helping others and use for family get togethers. Somewhere that is quiet, but close enough to the city for convenience. I am in my mid-30s and currently own my own home (about 12 years), so there is some equity. As a beginner at this stage and with this type of business, what do you feel are the most important aspects to consider. Has anyone done this before? Is there something you wish you knew beforehand? Are there free/low cost resources that you would recommend (I have done various readings, but they have mostly been vague, rather than specific to this type of business)? Thanks, everyone! Project management software with tasks and knowledge base Posted: 08 Nov 2018 03:59 AM PST Hi All. I'm on the hunt for an online project management solution for my business, which is maintaining web applications. I've searched through other threads on this topic, but want to see if there is something out there that meets my specific needs. What I'm looking for is: - Track tasks - Add recurring tasks (database backups, etc) - Add notes per project, kind of like a mini knowledge base for each app (startup procedures, etc) - Add links per project - Track time spent on tasks So far Teamwork Projects has met all of my requirements, but the software is a bit clunky when compared to Asana, which I also tried. The main thing Asana is missing is a knowledge base or ability to add notes. Would love to hear your thoughts. Anybody using Teamwork Projects and happy with it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2018 03:05 AM PST Like if I had to pay Amazon $1000/yr to make sure I'm not violating Prime's ToS I would. Do they have any option like that yet? To be clear, this would be ONE person (me) sending out packages to thousands of different CUSTOMERS who never touch the actual account. My goal is to be able to use Free 2-Day Shipping for packages sent out to thousands of different customers, for my business. [link] [comments] |
UK based CBD business start. Advice on Merchant account & Payment gateways Posted: 08 Nov 2018 01:38 AM PST Hi... Just subscribed today after reading some posts and hoping I can get some help. I have recently set up a business after securing a good source of quality CBD oils and only sell within UK for now due to varying laws around the world. We are selling on ebay at the min which is actually going well however I'm aware I could have my listing stopped at any time. I have also created a website via Shopify and have been advised by them I need to use a third party payment gateway provider which is where I'm currently stuck. In order to use a payment gateway (authorize.net) I first need a merchant account - ive read online that World Pay would work however I've just been on the phone to them and they have advised they do not provide merchant services to CBD businesses. It was quite funny as the guy was really interested in the product and was apologising loads for not being able to help. I know this is currently considered a high risk business but does anyone have experience with this that could help me out? Is there a merchant account/gateway provider combo that will take me on and also integrate with shopify?? I'd be willing to move to a different Web host if needs be but keen to progress this ASAP. Tl/dr Can anyone recommend a merchant acc/payment gateway provider to sell CBD via shopify? (UK based) [link] [comments] |
Small business owners: I would like some input on a really dumb idea Posted: 07 Nov 2018 09:42 PM PST For a while now, I have been trying to figure out what I am good at and attempting to come up with a business centered around that. I want to have a way to make money that allows me to use my inherent strengths and talents, not just some skills I learned over time. After a lot of thinking and studying other peoples' business, I had a really stupid idea, and I'm curious to know what you guys think of it. A Philosophical Consultant. I want people to pay me to ask them questions. My biggest talent is asking questions that other people are afraid to ask, or assume they know the answer to, or just don't even think about. In every job I have had, this has always been what has stood out to my employers and bosses: the fact that I ask a TON of questions. Some of them find it obnoxious, and others find it refreshing or even helpful. Some of the answers are very obvious, and some of them take a long time and a lot of thinking to really articulate well. My dream job would be to go into a business, and help the business owners/managers/employees to really analyze EVERY decision/procedure/etc by asking every question that comes into my head, and trying to build a model of the business from an objective viewpoint (or as close as I can get). I know this is a stupid idea because, well, who the hell is going to pay me to ask them questions? I figured I would put it out there, though, and see what you all thought of it. Maybe there is an existing line of work I can get into that capitalizes on this talent? [link] [comments] |
Best way to hire new people for a business with a very tight budget? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 10:08 PM PST Most websites I've seen charge hundreds after a free trial for employers to hire new employees. I'm trying to find a solution that will work for me, because we have very little business starting out and this is a job that needs to be filled quickly. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 07 Nov 2018 10:08 AM PST This may not be a thorough enough question to get an answer, and I can provide any details requested to a certain point. If Party A is 100% funding a business, but Party B will be 100% in charge of said business, and Party A is offering an ownership stake as part of compensation, is there any sort of standard for what size stake is offered or is that dependent on the rest of the compensation package? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 08:00 PM PST I'd just like to know how to help this friend of mine set things up. He has driven for many years but he pays gas with cash all the time. He does not take advantage of the tax deduction and such. I'm just curious where does he start from here. I'm just curious as to how to explain things like business account. I'm not someone with a whole lot of knowledge on this issue. So I am wondering if anyone would help out. Just some information of what is needed. Personally, I've tried looking up on the internet for clarity but I just don't understand a whole lot. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments] |
HACCP compliance management for small-scale food manufacturers? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 09:38 AM PST Hello r/smallbusiness, I'm researching food safety compliance options for small businesses and I'm hoping to get some feedback from this community. A friend of mine owns a packaged food business and he's working on achieving HACCP compliance in order to win larger distribution accounts. His current process is fully paper-based and has introduced a lot of overhead for him and his staff. I work in manufacturing software solutions and he came to me for advice, so I'm trying to help him out. Basically he's looking for a software package that will help him eliminate paper data entry and streamline his compliance process. I'm familiar with MES software for production tracking, but I wasn't able to find any options that are specifically used for food production, and none of the options seemed appropriate for a business of his size. My questions:
If anyone is interested, I can update this thread with any good information I find. Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise! [link] [comments] |
Seeking feedback-What do you think about a coffee shop that helps people to feel less lonely? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 02:33 PM PST I have a business idea, have a coffee shop where people will be encouraged to interact with each other in activities like networking workshops, teach something, a panel so people that want to meet new people can post it on the walls. My primary objective is to share the best Peruvian coffee that anyone that asks for it and tell people that they are not alone, my place is meant to give the best place to genuine human interactions, no hidden agendas, just be friends like when we were kids. Then the model will not be limited by the physical spaces I can offer, but the community can take this coffee shop experience to their own places and host this meeting in their homes. I will appreciate if you can tell me what do you think about this idea and if I have to improve or is too idealistic. Thank you [link] [comments] |

Opening small rolling ice cream business Posted: 07 Nov 2018 02:18 PM PST I've noticed in the last couple years the rolling ice cream business has been blowing up. I live in an area where its developing and there ton of new small businesses startups for example MOD pizza just opened up about six months ago and every time I pass by there a line almost out the door and think it would be a great idea to bring something new around the area like rolling ice cream, My question here is what do you think the start up price for something like this would be? Need business advice: would love to hear from restaurant owners, cafe owners, wine bar owners etc Posted: 07 Nov 2018 12:59 PM PST I have started an online business in a major metropolitan area. This business pairs artist and crafters with individuals and organizations having fun, creative parties. For instance, paint your own canvas parties, cupcake decorating parties, knitting parties, puppet making parties. You get the idea. You book the artist on our site and the artist travels to your event location, brings all supplies, etc. Artists travel to event locations within a 50 mile radius of the city. When you book an artist on our site, you pay a $50 deposit. The rest is due at the event and is collected by the artists. We are getting some bookings at 55 plus communities, etc., but bookings are few and far between. I am thinking of marketing the business to restaurant owners, cafe owners, wine bar owners etc. The pitch would be that, similar to a trivia night, this would increase your sales by bringing in more people. We would advertise that the artist would be hosting a knitting party or whatever at your cafe, maybe the artist would put it on eventbrite too, and you could put up a sign at your business location. As a business owner, you would pay $50 to book the artist and the artist would collect a small amount per head for everyone who wanted to participate. I want advice-is this something you would use as a business owner or do you see this as a viable plan? If not, what are the sticking points. How would you sell this if you were me? Go door to door to restaurants, cafes and bars? Where would you advertise? Any and all advice is so, so appreciated. This is my first business and I really need feedback. I am not interested in selling anyone anything...I have not included the location and business name because I simply want advice [link] [comments] |
Thinking about taxes and not sure what to expect. First year of the business. Posted: 07 Nov 2018 08:39 AM PST So I started my humble landscaping company in March, registered as a sole proprietor LLC. I have tried to save for taxes but, ultimately needed to capital to pay my bills. I am just curious if anyone else has gone through this. What should I expect come tax time, should I scramble to save up for a big tax bill at the end of the year? Any wisdom on the subject is most appreciated! Thanks you! [link] [comments] |

Finding the best small business credit card Posted: 07 Nov 2018 10:45 AM PST I've been looking at acquiring a small business credit card, but wanted to poll you guys here as to what you may think is best. As one can probably gather from my username, I purchase a lot of oils, lye, and packaging materials, I've looked at a lot of cards, but can't seem to find one that would offer more points for business purchases outside of office supplies and restaurants. Right now the strongest contender seems to be the Chase Ink Business Unlimited Card, is there a card out there that may be better suited to what my business purchases are? Any help/suggestions are welcome, thanks for your time! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Nov 2018 10:29 AM PST Hey, So we are prototyping a new brand and want to set up an account to hold cash. We don't have an EIN yet and are not planning on officially setting up our board and EIN until 2019. Is there an app or tool that we can use to start making sales and holding cash? Paypal account? Cash app? etc? [link] [comments] |
Running a high street takeaway? Posted: 07 Nov 2018 09:55 AM PST Strangely I've never thought myself as a chef/cook but I've always been rather good at cooking and I love to practice different dishes. I've become quite fond of fried chicken and people thing im rather good. My partner isn't well at the moment but loves my cooking and I kinda want to experiment with it as a potnetial small income earner. One thing I can't find out is if pressure fryers can work in a burger van I understand they're high maintenance and high power. I'm fairly good with beef burgers, but I love chicken it's one meat I can just get juicy and flavourful all the time. Has anyone had any experience running a van running fried chicken? And what is the potential issues of running a van, I'm in a fairly remote place in UK but there are small towns bursting with wonderful food sources with local meat being a huge thing here.
