Yelp filtered all my positive reviews and left one negative review. Now have a one star rating for my business.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 10:07 AM PST

All my positive reviews got filtered. Some of the reviews were made by actual yelpers with hundreds of friends and dozens of reviews. Still got filtered. I even checked their profile and all of the reviews they posted were unfiltered except for the one they wrote for my business. One negative review I got by a yelp account with 3 total reviews stayed up. I am at a loss on what to do. My positive reviews are real but I can't seem to prevent them from being filtered.

Yelp: I want to start a site to review Yelp

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 06:22 PM PST

Seems many here have similar miserable experiences like me and I'd like to start a site that's entire focus is reviewing Yelp. I haven't worked on a site like this before and curious if anyone here has and development experience building something like this and I guess as well if anybody else thinks this is as hilariously awesome an idea as I think it is.

    Determining My Shipping Cost

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 09:36 PM PST

    Hello Everyone,

I am fairly new with selling online. I want to offer free shipping on most of my listings. My problem/question is I am trying to determine my shipping costs when deciding my listing price. How can I figure out what the farthest zip code is from where I ship out? I tried googling it and can't find a clear cut answer. I've found maps of zip codes but that does not help me. Specifically looking for the farthest zip code from 53186. Any input, suggestions, or help is greatly appreciated!

I thought I was doing everything OK

By knowing the numbers and keeping every physical receipt and any numbers for the business by coming up with a number for taxes

Not really breaking down COGS and logging them exactly....

Worked fine for the 2 years been in business come tax time.

But now we are in desperate need of help As covid had dropped us 60% in revenue .. And the SBA reached out to me to make me aware I qualify for the targeted EIDL grant

But once filling out the application It asked gross revenue.. was easily ready for that

But the COGS portion.... I have no clue how to put down exact numbers for that... I know what I spent as totals for the calender year for each if the 4 places I buy all my inventory from I know each item costs me roughly $1.15 to $1.30

But scared to mark down a generalzation on there and been stalling as money is possibility running out for the targeted grant. Did I screw myself out of a for sure 8 grand of desperately needed funds for my family ran small business ???

Any help at all would be super appreciated

Taxes and Loans.... did I mess up?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 01:47 AM PST

Hey y'all! I would love some advice, experiences, or suggestions regarding how I file my taxes and it's impact on securing a mortgage or larger loan down the line.

Background: I am a commercial beekeeper, and have been self employed since Sept 2017. The business was established April 2017 but I was also working a 9-5 so I had a partial year with a regular W2. 2018/2019/2020 were all returns with the sole income being my farm.

The concern: Every year, the business has done better than the last. However, due to the fact that small businesses (and especially farms) can write off just about everything including the kitchen sink, I have "broke even". This was done very intentionally, with major purchases for the following spring (always larger than the last years) being purchased in December following our pre-Christmas extra income. I had always just assumed that's what businesses did. Nothing is untruthful on these returns, even cash sales were reported, but I was able to write off many living expenses since we live on our farm.

The loan: in the next year, maybe a little more, we want to purchase the house and land we currently live on and run our business through, but rent. I am concerned that the break even years, though profitable good years of growth, will appear to be a business who couldn't pay back their loan. Credit score reasonable, will likely be high 600s at time of application. I am willing to put a down payment of as much as I can, and will scrimp and save for the next year to piece together a reasonable chunk of money (10-15% of purchase price) if that's what it takes.

Other info to note: I have NOT filed my 2020 return yet. It is currently sitting on my computer in excel with a full break even projection again, which is what I thought I wanted up until this week when I realized this potential issue. Any help or insight would be fantastic!

Where Can I Find The Best Online Courses?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:38 PM PST

I'd like to consider myself relatively entrepreneurial, and because of this I really value knowledge. In fact, my parents use to tell me if there's one thing they can't take from you it's what you know. I've carried this lesson into my everyday life, and that's why I really love online courses. Because they are a quick and easy way to learn a variety of topics from the comfort of your home at your own pace. Normally I find all my courses on a site called Scam Risk, because they tend to have reviews and user feedback; however, I would like to venture out and look for other sites with courses. So can anyone provide me some great resources for online courses?

    Paying taxes with no revenue?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:42 PM PST

My business was incorporated in September 2020 but we have not generated any income yet. We anticipate we will begin generating revenue mid 2021.

We have elected to be taxed as an S-corp beginning tax year January 1, 2021.

Are we supposed to file taxes for the Sept-Dec 2020 period even if we had no revenue? How does this work in this case?

    Business giving loans - licenses?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:09 PM PST

Hey all! I'm thinking of starting a business to ONLY give out small loans to consumers directly and to businesses. To be clear, I do NOT want to be a bank, I only want to give out small loans.

I know I will need a lawyer but I'm looking to do some pre-research now

    • What licenses would I need to get?
      • If I want to operate in 2-3 states, do I need to get licenses in all states?
    • What's the best structure to set up a lending business? (LLC vs s-corp)
    • Besides SSN / EIN and the obvious (payment stubs, income, etc), is there anything else I'd need from the lendee?

Also, clarifying, this is not for payday loans. This is actually for well qualified lendees. I only plan on making ~1% (after taxes, fees, inflation, labor, etc).

    Thanks all!

    Local Business review scam

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 01:35 AM PST

So recently I bought a projector from a store and they sold it to me with a pretty pretty face saying it would be there pleasure to serve us in the future for any issues,

cut to now, I called them regarding some simple inquiry about my product and they just fking lost it by saying you came to our store and we "entertained you" by answering your question for the projector and what not, so I decided to leave them google review for my fellow buyers.

Turns out half of their reviews (they only have like 18 of them) are by their own employees saying to buy stuff from their store, how do I a common redditor teach them a lesson on customer service but at least I can ask my fellow redditors to spam these MF's on Google Reviews

Urgent notice: Your QuickBooks software will be discontinued

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:30 PM PST

What?! Did anyone else just get this email? There is no more QuickBooks desktop where you pay $200-300 for several years of service. What's the best alternative? Mostly need synching with checking account and credit cards. This new price hike is insane.

After May 31, 2021, you won't be able to access Online Banking or sign up for other QuickBooks services such as Payroll, Payments, and Support unless you upgrade. Also, you will no longer receive updates for security patches.

Accounting/Payroll Software for One Man S-Corp?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 06:33 PM PST

I'm currently using Quickbooks 2009, but realize it is way out of date and not supported anymore. I have myself setup as an S-Corp. I am the only employee and do engineering consulting so other than my payroll, occasional office supplies and reimbursable travel expenses, I don't have much to track. Any recommendations? I currently use a payroll company to process my payroll and pay the government. It seems like it is double the work having to email them the hours, pay them to process it and then have to manually enter the reports into Quickbooks afterwards. Would be nice if the software would integrate with the payroll company. I've asked my payroll company if they integrate with any software. Not opposed the changing payroll companies either if there is one that will integrate directly into the business software.

What to do with additional funding?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 02:01 PM PST

So I run a web site design/hosting/digital marketing firm. I'm in the process of applying for funding from a CDFIs and obviously the main question is what would do with the funding to grow it? My first instinct was to use the funding to pay for a series of trips to other cities to try to recruit partners to sell my produce/service in other cities since I can service clients anywhere. I'd be targeting markets very similar to mine as far as geographical regions so my price point would work well.

Speaking of that, I wonder what the best way to recruit part time B2B sales people in other cities.

My other instinct is to throw money in google adwords just to promote myself locally since the incoming potential clients are pretty easy sales in general.

I'm thinking maybe also go the route of using the funding to hire a 3rd designer/developer but at the end of the day, I need more incoming sales, my design team and marketing team are extremely scalable.

Anyway, thanks for any thoughts/feedback you have.

What are the best places to find online courses?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:04 PM PST

Recently I've finished my online marketing course, and it has done wonders for my construction business. I just landed my first two customers, and things have really began to look up. But this success has opened my mind to the world of online learning; whereas, before I was very skeptical as many courses seem like scams. I was wondering what are some good online courses? and where can I find them? I would prefer a site with some reviews

    Efficient data collection help needed

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:01 PM PST

    Hello all,

I work in an industry where clients provide information to us and we use that information in document creation. I'm talking like contact info: name, phone number, email, etc. The problem we've been running into is we have a PDF document we send to the clients who then fill it out and email it back to us. It feels really inefficient. We used to send Word documents, but you wouldn't believe the ways the clients messed up the underlying document. We went to fillable PDF to mitigate that.

What I ultimately envision is a way for the clients to go to my website and type the contact information in so that it auto populates a database or something similar. Problem is, I have no idea what kind of products are available that could solve my problem. I don't even know where to start. Some direction would be great. Thank you!

    Posted ad with no sales

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 03:29 PM PST

Hi, lets get straight to the point.

I have two ad creatives. One I paid $10 for and the other I made. The one I paid for managed to get no sales after $50 of ad spend and the ad I made has been running for 3 days $30 with no sales either. ad this is the ad I made. If you guys have any tips on a good ad creative or ad copy I would love to hear it.

After all, making the ad and running it is definitely the hardest part of ecommerce in my opinion.

Question: how many small businesses have gone bankrupt in the last 10 months?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 03:00 PM PST

I ask this because it drives me nuts that the media is not really digging in to the story of how massive the die-off is for entrepreneurs and small businesses due to the pandemic/economic crash.

I owed a small business. I received PPP in May and followed the rules - gave it to employees even though they weren't working. By August, went out of business.
