How can I advertise this without being an ass about it? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 03:27 PM PDT My wife and I recently opened an indoor garden supply store (lights, hydroponics, tents, nutrients, soils, etc.). There is one (major) other store in the area that has been here for 7 or 8 years. Everyone that has set foot in our store how mentioned how much more organized and clean we are as well as how welcoming and friendly we seem to be. How can I inform others of this without coming across as bashing the other guy? The other store has a decent following and I don't want to ostracize myself. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 02:42 AM PDT Hey guys, We've been offered a partnership with a payment processor and I'm still not entirely sure whether to accept or not. So... your help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. If you're not interested in filling out any part of it, that's cool too. Seriously. [link] [comments] |
What to do when new business is constantly losing money, and is taking a toll on my body? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 09:52 AM PDT So I started up a new deli/convenience store hybrid in a quiet part of nyc (queens). My father was in the business for 40 years and it interested me so I figured I'd start my own. I do not talk with my father. I've been open only 2 months now. Very new. In order to break even, I need to make per month: 180 for insurance 50 for internet and phone 1750 for rent 136 for bread/bagels 300 APPROX for electric That's 2416 a month. 80 a day. I need to make 80 (aka 160 a day to break even, double that amount). dosnt seem like a lot right? Now, I'm the only one working here since foot traffic isn't the best (hence the low rent) and it's not really busy. I work here 14 hours every single day, 7 days a week, holidays and weekends. Family come and help me but they are unpaid and usually not here because they're busy. On an average day I'd make like 80-100. There are some good days where I'd make like 150 the most I've ever done. It happens every here and then, but a typical day is 80-100. Now that is not good at all and I am in fact losing money, even though I have no employees and am budgeting extremely hard, and work 14 hours. I do grubhub delivery (they send the driver) but that only adds a few bucks and it's been not busy there either. So I know it's only been 2 months but I'm worried it'll stay like this or be worse, especially when winter is coming. Most of my sales right now is cold beverages. I still do not sell beer and that would def boost my income. I'm not sure how much it'd boost it. I'm in the process of getting the license to sell beer from NY state. It's taking a long time... But I'll get there. Anyway it'll surely add income. something else that would boost income is lottery... But I've been denied because "there are enough lottery retailers in the area to serve the public." Another thing is ciggeretes, but the tobacco licenses are put on a waiting list in nyc, and will take probably 2 years. I'm open to any thoughts and suggestions. Should I focus on beer once I get the license? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Oct 2018 03:33 PM PDT Hi gang! I own a very successful music school in Brooklyn, NY. I'm opening a second location in Queens. For those who don't know, Brooklyn and Queens are only a few minutes from each other geographically but are worlds apart in every other sense. It'll be a completely new clientele even though it's a fifteen minute drive. My business is called the Williamsburg School of Music. Williamsburg is the neighborhood in Brooklyn where we are located. We use WSM as shorthand (it's the same upside down!). It's a long name and I wish I had made it shorter before we opened but I didn't and now we are very well-known and there's not much I can do about it. The part of Queens we are opening in is called Long Island City. I am very torn. Should I call it the Long Island City School of Music? Very long again and also now has no tie to my original place. Should I just call it Williamsburg School of Music? Should I call it WSM Queens and change my place to WSM Brooklyn? Now it's just letters that don't really explain the business. Should I call it Williamsburg School of Music: LIC? Dunno what to do. It's a good problem to have though. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Oct 2018 08:26 AM PDT Hi, Myself and two associates are planning on setting up a small web development agency. We're all Graphic Designers by trade but each have considerable experience in web design and development. We've pretty much decided that our strapline will be along the lines of 'Design with purpose', and all language and messaging will lead back to that strapline. We wan't to focus on industries such as renewables, green energy and generally forward-thinking companies who need a website to reflect who they are and the work they carry out. We're currently struggling with naming the company, and it's eating up far too much time so we need to agree and settle on a name as soon as possible. I've come to this subreddit seeking some guidance! I was wondering if anybody could provide a little insight on how you named your businesses? the process which led to the name? or if anybody has any suggestions for a name for our web design agency? Any and all help, tips & guidance will be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Oct 2018 06:04 AM PDT As stated, I went to request a DUNS number and noticed the number for my company in the business summary found was wrong. Not sure where they pull the information from and where I can find the mistake at the source. [link] [comments] |
Have you ever used fivver for freelance work while growing? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 10:13 PM PDT I need some small virtual assistant type jobs done occasionally. I'm interested in using people on fivver. I realize it depends on the actual person I hire but has anyone here had positive/negative experiences with it. If negative what would you recommend instead. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Oct 2018 07:05 PM PDT Hello! I'm currently trying to start the franchising process for a new quick-serve food chain, it being one of the first branches. It looks like I'm going to need 100k for the startup on my end. I have parents who are still employed making around 275k a year right now with minimal expenses and a 640 credit score who are willing to co-sign for as much as they can. Realistically how much do you think I can get with their co-sign and how else should i go about securing the rest? It's a partnered franchise so I'll have a partner who already has a source for his 100k so it's a 200k startup costs with two owners. [link] [comments] |

Is there anyway to create a business email for free? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 05:26 PM PDT Hello, I will like to know if there is any way I could create a free business email for my start up. Gusto vs Square Payroll for Bar Employees Posted: 08 Oct 2018 12:01 PM PDT Currently using Gusto for our Brewery Staff and now that we're looking to add 12 Taproom Employees to payroll we're trying to decide whether to add them to Square so their hours and tips can be tracked under one App, or to Gusto, or to just switch everyone to Square. We are currently using Square POS and it seems to integrate into the Payroll Software. Both Gusto and Square integrate into Quickbooks and the overall fees seem to be equivalent. [link] [comments] |
What are the disadvantages of becoming an independent contractor as far as taxes are concerned? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 02:16 PM PDT I was sent here from /r/personalfinance because this is supposed to be a more appropriate sub... I'm a poor college student, and am thinking of doing tutoring high school students at their parents's homes for 4 hours a week. I have 2 offers:
Of course the latter is higher, but am wondering how extensive and difficult is filing taxes as an independent contractor and what else is associated with it. [link] [comments] |
Idea suggestions for a small store business idea Posted: 08 Oct 2018 01:04 PM PDT Hello, I'm a young individual with no business schooling/experience. At the moment I'm completely lost in regard to future career paths. Recently I've been trying to find a passion, and what popped up was owning a store. My interests include vegan/health food, local products, weed/edibles (soon to become legal in Ontario). There is an upscale, family oriented town close to me that does not have a main grocery store, a dispensary, or a corner/convenience store. I've been considering amalgamating these products/ideas in to one store. Any suggestions/ideas for me? Any and all advice would be wonderful! [link] [comments] |

What cloud-based estimate and invoicing software are you happiest with? Posted: 08 Oct 2018 11:16 AM PDT Background: Audio Video LLC in Ohio. Potentially hiring two employees very soon. Current Quickbooks Pro Desktop single user in need of upgrade. New office space so need multi-computer capabilities. Unhappy with Quickbooks estimates and invoicing functionality and looking for something that can be utilized in the field as well. Still probably need QB for payroll, taxes, etc. Also interested to hear your thoughts on QB online vs desktop. [link] [comments] |
Trying to start an IT security business, any advice to get it off the ground is appreciated greatly Posted: 08 Oct 2018 11:10 AM PDT I've been into penetration testing for years now but have only had one job that is primarily about computers (I have done IT for every other job I've had but it wasnt part of my job description.) I would very much appreciate any advice I can get only starting it, and especially gathering clients. I live near Morgantown West Virginia so it's not exactly a hotspot of silicon valley types, however pretty much every business or organization that I've tested comes up with dozens of serious security flaws. So I know how badly people need a service like this, especially with no other comparable firms in the area, but getting the people here to understand or care about cybersecurity is difficult. I have looked into getting some nice business cards and recently reached out to a marketing firm nearby. My funds and experience are limited, funds especially. I have only ever owned one business of my own, a photography thing, but it was just a DBA and didn't generate much revenue. I think an LLC would work for my purposes but am slightly confused about the process of registering. I have very limited capital but already own all the hardware and software I can foresee needing for any kind of project. Any input is appreciated a lot and sorry for the lengthy post. Thank you so much in advance -jsteinbrech [link] [comments] |

Small Cleaning Business Help/Startup Posted: 08 Oct 2018 09:37 AM PDT Hello, My girlfriend is interested in starting her own cleaning business. She has a handful of under the table clients and is able to charge about $30/hr. She is looking into going legit and trying to make this a full time gig. She and I both understand some of the necessary steps, but we are looking for some guidance in terms of getting insured and setting up a small business payroll that would take care of the taxes aspect. I'm sure these questions have been asked before, but I wasn't able to find a FAQ or anything like that. [link] [comments] |
