Car rear ended DAYS before I was going to sell it. (PA) Posted: 25 Oct 2018 07:06 PM PDT Seriously, my luck is unbelievable. I was on my way to a car dealership tonight, stopped at a red light, when I was rear ended. My car has minimal damage but there are some scratches. Here's the problem. Carvana had offered to give me $5600 for my car before this happened (no accidents). After the accident they will only offer me $4200, even if all damage is repaired, because now there is an accident on record. I have a friend who works in insurance who says that typically diminished value claims are denied in PA. Anyone have any experience with a situation like this? Any suggestions for me? I'm just so mad. I must've done something bad for karma to bite me like this. [link] [comments] |
I work in a claims call center -- 90 days in.. Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:12 PM PDT Hey Everyone, My post is really for insurance professionals. I have been wanting to get into insurance for over a year. I had my claims license before getting hired in Dallas. I interviewed all over for adjuster trainee, couldn't land those positions w/o prior claims exp. On a whim, I applied to a claims call center job. I'm really psyched to be there. However, my background is not call center. People feel claims is stressful, I haven't felt that--except it's important (to me) that I'm good at my job, I improved greatly over 90 days. I basically feel metric goals are more stressful than the customers. However, my dreaded AHT is still high, often running 120-150% to goal. I moved 5 hours away from family for this job. It just hit me now, I have no choice but to keep pushing through as I just signed a 1 year lease. I feel inability to meet these metrics will eventually possibly get me fired or keep me chained in the call center versus going into property or auto. ADH, ACW, appraisals @ FNOL, I've been consistently meeting. My last meeting, basically, was lets forget about all these other metrics, lets focus on NPS/ILTR..we want you to deliver the best service but that phone call better not got over goal. They have not been hammering the AHT but I know it will be coming. I'm really at a point I don't know what I got myself into. Also not meeting these goals means you won't get raises, etc. I know it's not impossible as people are meeting them. Another thing the adherence despite meeting this metric, it's really grating being on such a tight leash at all times. Maybe b/c it's a cloudy day, I'm feeling blah. Anyone meet most but not all metrics and still GTFO of the call center and into an adjuster position in the same company? In many ways I know I'm lucky for this job. However the obsession with the metrics are grinding me bad. Also how soon can I apply to GTFO of this position into another dept? TLDR Any one not meet all metrics in the call center but still get out into another position WITH THE SAME company? [link] [comments] |
Insurance raising car premiums - "Assigned driver updated" - b/c I sold rarely used motorcycle Posted: 25 Oct 2018 08:54 PM PDT I am getting quite unhappy with the most recent thing my insurance company has done. I live in San Francisco CA. I bought a motorcycle in 2016 which I immediately got insured. At that time I lived alone in a suburb and already owned a 2011 BMW that was also insured with them. When I got the motorcycle insurance, they switched the "assigned driver" to the motorcycle. It's now 2 years later. My premiums went up a bunch b/c I moved to the city. But now that I've sold the motorcycle, they are raising my premiums another $200 a year b/c I am now assigned to the BMW. I was the only one who ever drove either vehicle. I also primarily drove the BMW over the motorcycle. Is my insurance allowed to do justify this increase due to the assigned driver stuff? Is there a California law that limits how they can increase my premiums? Additional info: I had an accident where another vehicle was at fault. It caused that other person some bodily injury. They didn't have insurance. This accident happened over 3 months ago. My insurance company found me to not be at fault and returned my uninsured motorist deductible (around 1 month ago). I sold my motorcycle around 1 month ago as well. Only now are they changing my premiums by claiming "assigned driver" update. Final thing is that the "assigned driver" change in 2016 apparently reduced my premium by $26 a year. Now the assigned driver update is increasing my premium by $200 a year. TLDR: Only driver in household, sold second vehicle. Is insurance allowed to raise premiums b/c "assigned driver" updated? Have always been principal driver on both vehicles Please help! Help Reddit! What is workers comp insurance likely to cost me? [NY] Posted: 26 Oct 2018 12:39 AM PDT Hello hello, friendly folks. I'm a white-collar consultant in New York and I need to get worker's comp insurance because sometimes I have a little help. My nephew (technically cousin) comes along once in a while and helps me on a job. I think his dad just wants him out of the house and he's a good kid so I'm happy to have him along. I've been looking at the situation as a casual internship. Here's the problem, my clients all know him. I introduced him around and all that, so he'll have some opportunities and references when he's out of school. They want me to have workers comp to cover him. I could apply for an exemption but I was hoping I could just pay for some very low policy and go my merry way. I got in touch with NYSIF but their underwriter is taking a long time with his quote so I thought I'd give the ol' hivemind a try. Cliff's notes: have unpaid volunteer. Am doing things that are technically illegal but totally normal (a little nepotistic but it's honestly more a favor to my cousin/his dad). Want to know what I'm going to have to pay to make my clients happy and keep the government at bay. Throwaway because my nephew uses Reddit and knows my handle. [link] [comments] |
Insurance Hasn't Been Covering Drug They Should Have Been, Won't Reimburse Me Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:40 AM PDT Hello! I'll keep this as brief as possible. I have been prescribed HCG (sold under many brand names, including Pregnyl and Novarel) and have been taking it for about a year. This drug is explicitly excluded from my insurance company (HealthNet)'s formulary. When my doctor sent it to my normal pharmacy, as a result, they were going to fill it as Novarel, which was going to cost $4,765 out of pocket. We finally found a local compounding/specialty pharmacy who would fill it as Pregnyl, which cost $135 out of pocket. We appealed for prior authorization, overrides, my doctor and I jumped through all the hoops to see if my insurance company would cover it. They would not, and told us that they do not, under any circumstances, cover Pregnyl or any form of HCG. So I've been paying out of pocket, $135 a month, since last December. There is currently a shortage on Pregnyl. My doctor authorized the pharmacy to fill the prescription as Novarel instead. After this, my doctor starts getting faxes from a different pharmacy. It turns out that HealthNet will cover Novarel, 100%, if I get it from their pharmacy - let's put aside the fact that my information being sent to this pharmacy without the knowledge or consent of me or my doctor is a major HIPAA violation, for the sake of this thread. The fact that they would cover it under those circumstances was never explained to us. In fact we have, in writing from last year, that they NEVER cover it, no matter where I go, because it's excluded from the formulary. Clearly this was not the case and I've been paying out of pocket for no reason. Not only will HealthNet not reimburse me for the $1500 or so that I've spent on medication since the beginning of last December, the customer service rep I spoke to heavily implied that if I raised too big of a stink about it, they would decline to cover the Novarel in the future. To be clear, the rep did not threaten me, she cautioned me that she had seen them do that in a very "I'm not telling you this, but" tone of voice. What recourse, if any, do I have? I'm glad they're covering my medication now, but boy I really could have used that $1500. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:23 PM PDT Randomly I thought of this do rich people by law need insurance even if they can afford the cost of any crash or any other time you would need auto insurance? Thanks ask and I will try and clarify if you don't understand :) [link] [comments] |
Do I need two life insurance plans ? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:37 PM PDT I have two life insurance plans. One from State Farm which is a select term basic plan amount for $100,000.00. I also have a plan I got through my work the plan is a whole life plan from American income life for $30,786.00. I just don't want to pay for two polices every month and I am thinking of canceling one. What do you think ? I would appreciate any advice you can give me. [link] [comments] |
California resident / Auto accident / Simple question. Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:32 PM PDT Got into an accident where there was a possibility of it being 50/50 Accident happened on the 20th and the person who hit me filed a claim most likely say day. I saw my lawyer on 22nd towards end of day. So my lawyer best case filed the claim on 23rd. I got a call from my lawyer on the 24th saying that the other insurance company has taken 100% fault. Today I got an email from my insurance that they have gotten an estimate on the damages of my car. Is this normal? I have already forwarded the email to my attorney but im a bit anxious since its night time here [link] [comments] |
Car insurance & Non-Excludable Drivers Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:17 PM PDT So you live in a state like say.. New York. New York doesn't allow driver exclusion. So when your 25 year old brother who can't seem to move out of moms, gets not one.. but TWO DWIS.. how does the insurance company handle it? Let me tell you. Don't get me wrong, I have some sympathy for my brother -- not for what he did but for how the world responds. insurance is through the roof.. you want the cheapest insurance policy? well get ready to shell out $300+ a month... anyway, this post is more about my questions on why it is so hard to exclude a drive from your policy. Lets put this into context.. I searched for insurance, and i got a good rate. After one or two policy premiums got paid; the price shot up. it made no sense... but apparently the insurance companies do household drivers checks. So ok, i get that. you want to see if other people might put you at risk. i'm no genius, i don't know what would happen if someone i allowed to drive my car got into an accident. and i know there's a whole lot of discussion to be had about someone "allowing" and the implications of all of that. but what i don't understand, is why an insurance company is allowed to jack up the premiums of my insurance because they did a household drivers check, but the person they "checked" had his license taken. He has no proof he doesn't drive, the court took it. his attorney advised him not to apply for a non-drivers ID due to time and expenses that would be accrued, and now since he can't prove that he doesn't drive, the insurance company wants MY money. This is one messed up situation. we reside in the same household and he has no physical proof of not driving. I'm reaching out to the DMV to see if i can get valid proof, and then hoping it is good enough for the insurance company. But this got me to thinking... being that i live in a state that doesn't allow driver exclusion, what would happen if you had a live-in rental situation, sharing an address with another individual or individuals... hell... even living in the same apartment building you all share inter-connecting doors. Ok.. so the apartments was a stretch.. but I still think this is a very questionable practice and was wondering what everyone thought... hope i'm not sounding too crazy, look forward to what you have to say! GLI for aircraft detailing business Posted: 25 Oct 2018 04:55 PM PDT Hope this is allowed if not feel free to delete. I am trying to find some companies with General Liability Insurance for an aircraft detailing business I am looking to start. So far calls to most of the majors are coming up with big goose eggs or no call backs after weeks. I am going to try some more aviation based companies tomorrow, however I though I would ask here as well. Thank you very much. [link] [comments] |
Old insurance says my girlfriend isnt being covered by my new insurance? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 08:37 PM PDT So our previous car insurance Progressive took a payment out this month because my gf forgot to cancel the last insurance, so we sent them the new cards from our new insurance The General showing our effective date for the refund. To detail what our cards look like since I'm the main policy holder for the policy my name shows first on her car's insurance card. Insured: My First and Last Vehicle:Her vehicle Of course I have a card too for my own car. And so on. Of course it shows effective date blah blah. I wanted to be insured on her car too in case I wanted to drive her car for emergency or something. So we sent that to them and we got a reply saying shes listed as a driver but is not actually insured because her name isnt on top? She said to call general and we did. They've never heard of that actually mattering, so I emailed progressive back and the lady said something along the lines of "Well the average time of a tenured agent there is a year, I've been in insurance for 25 so clearly I know more then them, we'll cancel your insurance but good luck with that for your sake" obviously she didnt say exactly that but she did gloat about her 25 years and she did say the sake part. This pissed me off so much. I'm going down to the police station and show the insurance card and ask if it's legal and if she is insured. Has anyone ever heard of this? I could ask for a card with her name on it only but now I'm ticked and want to prove her wrong. I'm probably gonna call general again and ask for a supervisor just to make sure. But is there anything else I should check before I reply to this lady? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 06:47 AM PDT Last night my car was broken into. Only been living in the neighborhood for 3 weeks. She had some dry cleaning in there with several vintage items totaling more than $2k. I also had sunglasses, iPad, AirPods and stuff in my work bag. I have homeowners insurance that covers my possessions from theft whether inside or outside the home. Would her stuff be covered because it was in my possession at the time? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 11:55 AM PDT Hello all - Unfortunately rear ended last night and so started the claims process. Using Allstate - they then direct me to their direct repair program which appears to be all service king locations. Anyone know how they do in terms of body work? Should I find my own shop for better quality repairs and how should I go about that with Allstate? Any advice is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Got into an accident, other car totalled. If im at fault how much will I pay? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:19 PM PDT Going to be very vague because this is a throwaway, and don't need this somehow screwing me over one day. Got into an accident on my way to school. Both I and the other driver are fine (unless he told his insurance company otherwise, but he kept saying he was fine and that it's just important that we are both ok). My car has some minor damage from what I can tell but runs fine. His car is totalled. If I am at fault (for legal reasons let's just say I have reason to believe I'm 99+% at fault...allegedly...). His car was brand knew and he said he has loans to pay off still. It seems like it's around the 2017 model and upon googling it, it looks like it starts at about 30k. I'm very young, only in college but my parents have told me we have good insurance so I shouldn't be too worried (only spoke over the phone with them. Haven't seen them yet) Generally speaking, in a case like this without knowing the specifics how likely is it that I pay a significant amount out of pocket? I know for sure my premiums are going to go up, but my concern is with them replacing his new car. Any help? Also I got a voicemail that I could barely hear but they said something about speaking with them before going forward with "legal action about my case". Seems like scam? Tl;dr: got into an accident, other car is totalled and was new, I'm likely at fault for all of it. Not sure how these cases typically result if I'm not giving specific details. Not sure how much I'll pay out of pocket Also got a voicemail about taking legal action or something [link] [comments] |
Should I go through my car insurance? Potential blood biohazard *warning graphic description* Posted: 25 Oct 2018 06:31 PM PDT The other day my puppy was extremely sick, unfortunately he has now passed away. Before he passed away he lost a large amount of blood in my car, it resulted in a literal puddle of blood on my front drivers seat and a lot of blood between the drivers seat and center console and then just drips of blood throughout the cockpit. There were also other fluids on my passenger seat as well. I drive a 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 104k miles with beige interior (beige carpet and seats). My carpet is blood stained and my car reeks. The seat is visibly wiped down but they're perforated seats with pretty deep crevices so who knows how well I cleaned them. Is this something I should contact my insurance over? Would this total a car or are there options of having it cleaned without costing a fortune? I know if I do it myself i would have to deconstruct the entire driver side and center console to be able to clean it all. I've never dealt with blood cleanup before but googling it made it seem extremely costly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 10:02 AM PDT I have a quick question. The insurance is under my parents name, but I am not listed as a driver, but my car is insured. Do I need to be listed as a driver on their insurance? I called today to ask a question, and they told me I am not listed as a driver. Edit: I live in NY if it matters. [link] [comments] |

Cancelling Home Owner's Insurance Help Needed Posted: 25 Oct 2018 03:09 PM PDT I'm switching insurance companies for my home owner's policy and sent my insurance rep (Traveler's) an email wishing to cancel. They want me to doc-u-sign a document to cancel. Is this necessary? I don't really have a problem doing that, except that i don't understand the dates in certain boxes. I want to cancel my policy effective 10/31/2018 (in essence stop paying them) and begin my new policy then. But there are some other dates that confuse me. https://i.imgur.com/rgfMjPO.png Will signing this commit me to paying my old policy until March? Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Employer Group Life Insurance on Incarcerated Spouse Arizona, USA Posted: 25 Oct 2018 11:21 AM PDT Signing up for benefits at a new employer. Have the option to add life insurance on my spouse (as well as supplemential) without having to go through a health check if I add him when signing up. Would love to take advantage of both, as all it asks for is full name and birth date. But, my spouse is incarcerated and will be for the next few years. If the worst happens would this benefit be disqualified? If it matters, at my last employer I did have him on the group life insurance (he was incarcerated then as well) and they never sent me anything requiring further documentation on him. Car was hit by drunk driver who disappeared, big scratches, should I file a claim? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 02:39 PM PDT There was a police report and other neighbors were hit, but the guy disappeared. I have guy-co, $500 deductible. My wife suggested we file a claim, pocket the money, and I clean the scratches up the best I can since it's not our nice car anyway. 2004 Accord work/commuter car. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Clarification: My car was parked at the time. And the 2-3 larger scratches go from passenger side: front bumper, fender, front door, the mirror is loose, sometimes pops off, rear door, quarter panel, and rear bumper. So substantial enough to top $500 I bet. [link] [comments] |
What risks am I taking by allowing a test ride for a motorcycle I'm privately selling? Posted: 25 Oct 2018 04:38 AM PDT I have a buyer interested in a test ride. He has is motorcycle endorsement on his license. I'm going to ask he brings the asking price in cash to give me as collateral. If he wrecks I'm thinking that I dont need to worry about reporting it to my insurance. I just give him the title and keep the cash and tell him it's his problem now. There isnt any way this would mess with my insurance right? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2018 06:11 AM PDT Hi, I live in a big city and don't own a car. I typically rent cars from rental agencies for day trips here and there, and I usually don't take their insurance and instead pay for the car with my Visa hoping that they will take care of me (not always true, I know). I began using my corporate code to rent cars and it seems that I get insurance through the code. My wife who's in law school told me that I should read everything I sign super carefully and make sure I totally understand what I'm agreeing to. So, as it turns out, Visa won't cover me if I don't turn down insurance through the rental, and the corporate code includes insurance. I'm concerned that if I use the car for any personal business the company won't cover the car (I have a very low opinion of them). What's the best way to make sure I'm covered? I've found insurance companies online like Bonzah that cover the actual rental car for an additional fee, and the explanation of benefits makes no mention of whether or not there is any other insurance on the car. It only says that the car must be driven in accordance with the rental agreement. There's also no mention of liability, and my renters insurance specifically says that it won't cover any liability incurred when I operate a motor vehicle. So my question: is there an easy, pay as you go, way for me to cover myself with insurance for both the rental car and my liability? Or should I just suck it up and buy non-driver car insurance? If I buy the non-driver insurance will that coverage be void if I agree to any other coverage offered by the rental agency or my company? I really want to keep using the corporate code since it offers a 60% or 70% discount from list prices but it makes me really really nervous. Thanks [link] [comments] |
