Update: I shot for the moon and landed a corporate account.

    Previous topic

Today my boss and I went to meet this CEO. He kept it short and sweet. The big-box competition has been treating him like he's not going anywhere and he doesn't like it. It didn't matter to him that I'm a counterman, not a rep. All the reps he's contacted couldn't come in for a meeting anyways.

He asked about our capacity for a large account. I said capacity is no issue, we've got the people and can always bring on more if necessary. He got smart and asked "Well what is the issue, then?" and my boss was quick to say that there isn't any. I said I've got one big issue that I'm the youngest guy there and I want his business so my bonus check is bigger. The way to do that is getting him the right parts, on time, how every many times a day he needs them.

So after a fifteen minute meeting, he said he would talk to all the managers and barring them having any objections, we're in. All their locations, primary supplier.

I just landed my company at least $150k a month in sales. Fuck yes.

Looking for insight on my next job

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 12:19 PM PDT

I think my time in the mortgage industry has come to an end. I have been working for a major mortgage lender for 5 years (refinance) the market for this has all but dried up and I'm wondering what the next best sales job would be for someone with my experience. I have never worked B2B and my leads were all generated from my employer, I am very good at building trust and closing a qualified client. Any idea on what's 27 year old with no degree and 5 years of sales experience should do? What field is high paying? What's the next "mortgage industry" ?

Odds of getting into software sales from short track record in home improvement?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 09:19 AM PDT

Hey guys, I recently got into home improvement sales after 15 years of software, gaming, and creative project management. I just started 3 months ago and have just landed 2nd on the leaderboard with 500k in sales. But these are brutal hours and now I wonder if I can leverage my very short but successful track record to get back into software, but in sales. I've got a B.S. from a decent university. Thoughts?

Is it moral to sell refinance options from only one company?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:44 AM PDT

Hello. I'm considering partnering up with a bank as an affiliate and selling refinance options (housing, student loans, etc). I noticed that various banks have different payout schemes and all that along with different rates...

If I only affiliate myself with a few banks, surly my customer could get a lower rate if they "shopped around" right? How do I get past this moral roadblock in my head and create the best product for my customers? I don't want to be a "consultant", i'm pretty firm on going the refinance affiliate route.

    Workflow Optimization?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:21 AM PDT

So I have a question about the best approach for my efforts.

I have a client in location X whom I am travelling to, to have a meeting with next week.

Obviously, while I'm there, I would like to try to prospect additional clients in the area. So, after some research, I have a list of prospects in the area to call on.

Now, should I try to research, identify the DM, and call on each company separately as I work through?

Or is it better to research the whole list, identify the DM where possible on each, and then smash through a call list all at once?

I'm thinking the latter but it just seems so tedious and non-productive even though I know it will be beneficial in the long-term.

How to politely say no to prospects asking to involve senior members on a call

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:13 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm relatively new to a BDR role and have been put in this situation a couple times, where a prospect would ask senior members from my side to join a qualification call.

While I would love to involve senior members on the call, I often find myself in a situation where they don't want to be involved until there is a solid opportunity (which I understand).

In cases like this, what is the best way to politely say to the prospect that "I can't involve senior member X to join the call until you become an opportunity that's worth their time"?

For background info, I'm a BDR in a SaaS company, but with a long sales cycle (anywhere between 2 months to 3 years) with a product/service that is focused on a really niche market.

    Thanks everyone in advance!

    Large Account Prospecting Cadence

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:00 AM PDT

Context: I have recently started as a full cycle AE for a small software company selling automation solutions, the accounts I am targeting are >$500M companies, with the goal of booking an initial meeting and running the process throughout.

First, would like to know if anyone else is in a similar role, and what their prospecting strategy is. I am currently finding about 5-10 high level people and trying to get them on the phone.

One thing I have noticed is when I think I might have a hot lead I "blow them up" a bit, this is good for my numbers but I think it pisses them off. Looking for some recommendations on appropriate cadence as well.

My previous role was full cycle account management of local companies, so it is much different.

I wrote this quickly, please advise if you need more clarification or if you have advice, please share!

    Thank you

Soon-to-be veteran looking for advice in starting in sales.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:22 AM PDT

As the title states, I will soon be exiting the military and joining the workforce. I am currently able to go to college and have been wondering what degrees would best in getting my foot in the door of this field.

I (not so humbly) believe I have the confident and aggressive personality this field would demand, with plenty of experience working and easily connecting with different individuals in a professional setting (I work with lawyers and military judges).

I guess my question would be: Where did you all start, and what would be your advice on things I can start doing now to set myself up for success in the future?

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 06:36 PM PDT

I'm reaching out to seek the advice for my career path as I am mentally stuck between two options - especially since my rental lease is almost up.

For background, I was recently promoted to an Enterprise Account Executive this year with my current company (IT services). I'm currently making $100k base with $150k OTE. Since I've been at the company for a few years, I have a confident understanding of our value proposition and why prospects would invest in our services, albeit, I don't find it challenging anymore. Moreover, the job itself provides a lot of great benefits: flexible schedule, ability to work from home, good internal politics, great relationship with the boss and the team, etc. I'm on track to hit President's Club this year, so I'm not in a position where I HAVE to leave. Generally, I acknowledge that it's a lower pressure sales job than other companies but I feel like I'm lacking a purpose or a challenge. Also - not the biggest fan of the city I live in (Houston) but I know I haven't given it a chance since I live outside the city.

Which brings me to my two options:

Option A) Stay in this current role for another year, move into the city, make about $150k-200k and reevaluate in a year. By that time, I'll have the opportunity to be promoted again to our Strategic Accounts team or will have enough experience under my belt to go elsewhere anytime.

Option B) Start interviewing for external Enterprise AE jobs that pay $150k base and $300k OTE in the software industry. I've already had a few conversations with software sales recruiters and that's market rate nowadays. I'd need to learn a new company, process, politics and product from the ground up with the expectation to make sales close-to immediately. Definitely wouldn't feel comfortable as I know I'd have to prove myself. Move to Austin, TX where I've continually felt like "home" and have that warm fuzzy feeling.

Both options I would be maxing out all of investment accounts. If I made more, I'd simply invest the delta into the stock market.

I'm mid-20's and feel like I lack mentors external to my company, so any advice/recommendations are appreciated. Definitely want to hear folks' success stories, lessons learned, if they've been in similar positions, etc. Thanks in advance!

Those that find themselves 'in their head too much' how do you help combat that?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 01:52 PM PDT

I recently was asked a fairly simple question in which I hadn't prepared for. (How do you define success?) However, since I hadn't prepared for it, I kinda fell flat on my face/didn't give as good of an answer as I wished. I attribute most of this to thinking that I gain my confidence from being prepared. /r/sales how do I combat this headwind?

What's your answer when people ask, "what do you do?"

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 03:35 PM PDT

I work in B2B sales as an AE and often times have no idea how to say what I do in an interesting manner.

I've used "software sales" as my answer but people have zero idea what that means and just picture me as someone who works at Best Buy selling computers.

How do you describe what you do in an interesting manner?

Android or iOS apps for sales that exist or not exist? tips for a home office?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 07:01 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I am starting a new job and I will be doing all my cold calling from my phone. I get to buy whatever cellphone I want since I am a remote rep (the only in the country).

I am trying to think of how to keep track of my phone activity as best as possible and also how to maximize tech as much as possible. I truly believe my phone activity will be the deciding factor of how well I do on this job.

The first step is figuring out calling: which app would you recomend to keep track of calls/who I called/how long I spoke to them for, etc. I would also like it to have some sort of automatic reporting (i.e create a file or email a file at 11 am everyday with a custom report).

I am not sure which CRM this new company uses but it would be great if I could dial from my computer. I will only be using my cellphone for calling - is there an app or service that can dial on my phone by simply copying a number on my computer?

Also, this will be a home office - what other tech do you think I should be looking at?

4 months in and got the trust of my top 10 customers, how do I gain trust in the other 60?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 10:21 PM PDT

I work as a Territory Manager for a HVAC wholesaler in my area and I've gained trust in my top ten customers but I'm having trouble getting attention from the next 60. I want to build my territory and I try to focus on the next 10 to help but it's tough getting them to want to grow. What advice do you guys have on getting them on my side and starting to let me help them? I've got time in my day and would love to take on more responsibility if they gave me the opportunity.

Reddit, How Would You Sell This?

Getting reviews for clients' businesses on Google, Yelp, etc. at 200/mo and preventing bad ones.

I'm finding it incredibly difficult to infiltrate businesses b2b (I'm used to b2c) and cold email/phone has been anything but successful thus far.

    Equity or Equity+Commission for Sales?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 12:46 PM PDT

What is this community's opinion of being given equity only or equity+commission instead of salary+commission?

    Example choices:

    • 30% equity
    • 15% equity + 33% commission
    • $35k/year + 33% commission

More details: it is for a SaaS product that sells for $300-$500 per month per location. the company has a few locations that have been using it for years. company has no sales people yet and company owner is an introvert who doesn't do sales. There is over 50,000 locations in the USA that are potential customers.

Help choose my next career move (Please help)

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 04:56 PM PDT

r/sales I need your help one last time :(

I'm currently in a transactional SaaS space in a full cycle role. I'm crushing it. I've figured out my career goals and aspirations.

    1. I want to sell complex and innovative B2B enterprise level solutions eventually.
    2. I want to make a ton of money that just doesn't exist in transactional sales, but I know this will take time

    Offer 1:

-Very hot and known startup (150+ employees) that just got a huge funding round

-Disruptive insurance software/systems - Mid market to Enterprise B2B. Talking to C Levels/VPs

-Senior BDR Role. I will clear 100k if I hit quota (high pay in general)

-Positives: Very fresh technology that is exciting to sell. Gaining steam as a company and tremendous upside. Easier to hit quota in general

-Negatives: Little history of internal promotion to AE. I'm not sure i'll get it at one year. This is a very big dealbreaker if its true, because i've only been in my current company for ONE YEAR. It might make me look like a jumper

-Another neg is that I've never done pure apptment setting and I might obviously get bored

-Lastly, A LOT of the AE's don't come anywhere near quota there, from what I hear. So the end result might not be 100 percent worth it.

    Offer 2:

-CURRENT company where I'm a full cycle rep.

-They want to promote me to Inside AE. It's almost purely inbound demo's being set by the SDR.

    -100K OTE.

-They want me to bring the Full cycle mentality to the team where no one really does outbound.

Positives: Shows growth, more than 1 year at one company. Progression. The company itself has a great culture and is good as well. I'd be the first and probably only Full cycle rep to make the jump to AE

Negatives: Transactional selling. Legal industry for 2 years instead of true B2B / enterprise. Will it be hard to leverage and get an enterprise AE job after a year here?

Essentially, my question is this, is it worth it to take a "step back" and jump into a BDR role at a more true enterprise player? Let's say i crush it at either, which is more attractive for the enterprise company looking for their next external hire? What is the better long term career move?

    Thanks again guys,
