Is Amazon a once in a Millenium kind of company?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2018 09:40 PM PDT

I don't think we have witnessed a company this powerful in recent history. Dutch or British East India Company 400 years ago maybe? What do you all think? Will Amazon end up colonizing the world? Where is the limit for Bezos? Will he be a trillionaire millionaire in our lifetimes?

(NASDAQ: AMZN)— Amazon today announced an expansion of its San Diego Tech Hub and plans to create 300 new high tech jobs in fields including software development, machine learning, cloud computing, and digital entertainment. To accommodate the job creation, Amazon has opened a new 85,000 square foot office in Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc.'s Campus Pointe in the University Town Center neighborhood of San Diego. This expansion will allow the company to more than double its tech workforce in the area. $AMD

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 12:17 PM PDT

I know I am late to the game here, but theoretically it is still very early...right?

I have done some research but would love to hear from the stock pundits on this one.

Do I wait on AMD and buy a bunch later on or do I pull the trigger? Long run it shouldn't matter but if it takes a significant drop then I would be mad I did not wait and bought at $28.

    Thoughts? Wait or pounce?

Holy shit, JD is nearing 25$.

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:13 PM PDT

I said a good price to enter would be 20-25$, and I got heavily downvoted several times prompting to delete some of the posts I've made. Just goes to show how biased the hype people on this sub can be about a particular stock. If you want this sub to be non-biased, just stop downvoting people who have different opinions. I believe that at 20$, JD is an absolute must buy.

If both Uber and Lyft ipo went live today, which stock would you purchase and why?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:13 PM PDT

So both companies will be coming to the market soon, after all we are nearing the close of 2018.

Do you think this will be another Nvidia vs AMD?

I only ask because of UBER's immoral business culture and wrongful way they've handled so many issues in HQ. Will this and their initial loss of BILLIONS this year lead to a let down in the market?

Furthermore there's the question of Uber's purchase of over $1billion dollars worth of xc90 (Driverless) cars; not to be outdone by Volvo's gift of 24,000 driverless units. Will this move take away more than just jobs? Will the public be inspired to move away from Uber laterally to Lyft?

Just a bunch of shower thoughts I guess.

    How can I forget

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:08 PM PDT

I've been screwed over by AMD a few times when they were constantly hovering over the $12 mark. I kept thinking they would go up, but whenever i bet big on them, I would notice a huge drop within the week making me lose money. At that point, I stopped buying.

Few weeks go by, and I notice AMD is at $10. It went up to around $15 for a while, then back down to $10. I put everything I had in stocks in it (5k) and hope for the best. It drops down to $9.50 and I'm thinking about pulling it, but I decide to put another 2k in to even out if it goes up. It then soars to $13 within a few days! I was so happy, But I was scared of holding based on the history of AMD screwing me over. I end up selling because I got all my money back plus $500, which I thought was a lot. It dropped for one day, and I was so happy I sold, but then goes back up the next day. THEN CONTINUES TO GO UP FOR THE NEXT 3 MONTHS.

AMD is now about three times as much as it was when I had 600 shares, AND I WOULD BE UP OVER $10,000.

Everyday I watch the stock go up, and I keep thinking it's too late for me to buy in again, especially since it can't do this forever. Everyday I feel this pain of guilt for selling since I thought that was the best thing for me.

If anyone has any stories that can relate to mine, please share so I don't feel like the only small investor that got screwed over by a share.

    Tobacco, Tech, Cannabis, Water Stocks?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 09:14 AM PDT

    Hey All.

Fairly new to investing and am thinking of throwing some money into the market despite the talks of a market crash/recession which I do see coming. But I am doing this for the long run and am looking into the Tobacco and Tech industry to get some stocks, ETFs, or funds in. I currently hold some Cannabis stocks such as Aphria and Canopy, and am also holding some Apple.

I am looking at Philip Morris and am researching into some of the other Tobacco giants but wanted to see y'all's thoughts on this move. I am open to opinions, suggestions, and criticism!

I also want to throw some money into Clean/Fresh Water investments and some additional Tech stocks, as well as looking into getting some more Cannabis based stocks as well, so any suggestions or help there would be much appreciated!

Thanks for your input and help!

    Cheers

What stocks to buy in driverless tech?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 12:55 PM PDT

I missed out on the Amazon's and Google's because i was a broke kid when these companies went public and im not buying AMZN so i can own two shares lol. I think driverless tech is the future and the next big opportunity. I want to invest and forget for the next 5 to 10 years, what companies or stocks do you recommend and why? For this conversation let's exclude Google waymo for the same reasons I'm not purchasing AMZN. Company of interest right now is Aptiv. Also what companies in this field do you expect to see an ipo for soon.

I have 3 shares of IVV and 1 share of VTI. is that considered investing in sp500 indexed funds?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2018 10:57 AM PDT

I opened a roth IRA account on my own with Schwabb along with having a simple IRA account with my employer. my 3% deduction gets matched bimonthly and goes to my simple IRA.

however, with my roth i want to know if I am investing properly? I deposited $1,000 a couple months ago which allowed me to buy 3 shares of IVV and 1 share of VTI and I'm just holding that right now. Is this considered 'investing in the sp500 index fund' as so many people recommend to do? What other steps should I do right now? Should I max out my Roth?
