Sam Adams: From Poke to Woke… And You’re Next

Not sure if you'll find this article interesting or not, but the main point is not to sell your knowledge short of whatever it is that you're into when it comes to investments/trading; basically a reference to the investment/trading philosophies of Peter Lynch and Jesse Livermore (Reminiscences of a Stock Operator):

    What do to with IQ

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 10:29 AM PDT

I have been riding losses on IQ since about the 42 mark. My own fault, got too aggressive. I am looking for suggestings on this stock. Should I still rely on the long term aspect?

Why does the stock market occasionally crash even though, historically, earnings per share have been going up more than stock prices?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:24 PM PDT

I just want to say I'm very new to stocks, bonds and just finances and investing in general and I'm just genuinely trying to learn.

So I graduated high school this year and with life and work ahead of me I thought I'd start off right away with learning about various investments, mainly securities as of now. To get started I picked up The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham ( the one written in 1971/72 ) and I've been reading through it piece by piece really trying to understand everything and looking things up as I go.

So from what I've been able to gather from the reasoning Graham uses when discussing the intrinsic value of certain stocks, I'm not very far into the book though, the earnings of a given company in relation to its stock price is the most important underlying factor to look at when trying to value a share. So basically, if I've understood things right, if the price of a share has gone from 100 USD to 200 USD, and its EPS has gone from 2 to 4, the increase in the value of the stock could be attributed to an actual increase in the value of the company rather than market speculation and what not.

So to try and confirm if my interpretation of things is correct I did a little research and came upon this chart: http://www.macrotrends.net/1324/s-p-500-earnings-history

So if my understanding of things was correct, the chart would show that EPS would remain the same, or atleast not increase at the same rate as stocks, which would then cause a bubble which would eventually collapse as the difference between the increases in EPS and stock prices got larger. But evidently from the chart, the inverse is true. For example, between September 2002 and June 2007, the earnings per share went up about 2.83x whilst stock prices only went up about 1.85x. So to me, that would mean the market is, on average, undervalued since the earnings of companies has increased more than the prices of stocks right?

But apparently not, since clearly as shown on the chart, the market suffered yet another correction.

So basically what I'm wondering is; why?

    Appreciate any and all insight!

SCHG Schwab US Large-Cap Growth ETF - Opinions?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 05:03 AM PDT

Sorry for two posts in a relatively short period of time. Would welcome any opinions on SCHG as compared to its close Schwab alternatives (SCHX, SCHV, SCHA, SCHB, SCHK, SWPPX, even SWYJX, etc). A search turned up no discussion of this particular ETF. Thanks in advance to all for any input.

Do small bio-tech stocks outside the US care about the trade war?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:09 AM PDT

I'm holding a bunch of Israeli and Scandinavian bio-techs, that all have interesting pipelins, but I'm unware of how small bio-tech usually do if the market turns bad. Do people not care because they're invested in the pipeline (not trade numbers) or is it one of the first places people pull out of when the going gets tough? Thx.

    $STMP

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:36 PM PDT

I bought in a few weeks back when there was news about the White House wanting to restructure USPS. I've had an eye on this stock for a while and thought the news was unlikely to happen, so I saw the 10% dip as a good opportunity to buy in. Their business model seems to take advantage of negotiated discounts with USPS (and other carriers), and an integrated system to be able to print postage at home and also track your deliveries for businesses. I haven't done enough research on why a business won't just use the online USPS postage service (Click N Ship). It seems to be STMP has better rates which outweighs the monthly subscription if you ship enough, and provides more mail classes whereas Click N Ship only provides some of the classes.

I am half convinced of their business but also half skeptical. I don't plan on holding this forever but it does keep going up. Anyone have any thoughts on this company?

    Price/Book of 9.7

Is this decrease a good buying opportunity?

Who profits when options expire out of the money?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 12:47 PM PDT

Would the market makers like options to expire out of the money? Or will they push the stock to the direction needed to strike right before expiration day? Which way earns them more money.

I ask the general question with ticker BBBY in mind. 20-Jul-18 $24 CALL has the most interest. So I'm asking for anyone's thoughts on both.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 05:50 AM PDT

If I want to build a portfolio consisting of Amazon, Microsoft, Costco, Netflix and also a bank and marijuana stock. Does it make more sense to buy the individual stocks or should I just invest in QQQ and add my financial and marijuana stock? I generally go through phases of analyzing stocks and doing research to letting my portfolio ride without looking at it for months. Thanks guys and gals.

    Thoughts on gaming industry stocks?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 02:50 AM PDT

What are some opinions on gaming industry stocks (such as Tencent, THQ Nordic, etc.)? I'm just wondering since it is a media that just keeps on growing and make more and more money. However, the downside is that games are also getting ridiculously expensive. Love to hear what other people think.

Thinking about it as a long-term investment.

    Thoughts on VSTM

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 07:28 AM PDT

    https://quotes.wsj.com/VSTM

    https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/VSTM/

    From June 18, 2018:

Shares of the clinical-stage cancer specialist Verastem (NASDAQ: VSTM) are up by double digits today on heavy volume, thanks to a positive clinical update for its lead product candidate at the European Hematology Association meeting in Stockholm over the weekend.

While positive data readouts are a crucial steppingstone in the life of clinical-stage biotechs, the real test of duvelisib's emerging clinical profile will ultimately be the Food and Drug Administration's upcoming regulatory decision that's scheduled to be handed out by no later than Oct. 5. If the agency greenlights this drug, after all, Verastem will have a novel, well-differentiated drug on the market in the red-hot hematology space.

    AIEQ question

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 07:07 AM PDT

Does anyone know if AIEQ will short stocks if the market changes direction or is it only a long strategy? The fund description says it invests in equities, but I'm curious if this fund would also short as either a hedge or a play in a bear market. I'm really intrigued by this ETF and considering a purchase of it, just hoping to gain more info prior to purchase.

    CAT

    Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:57 AM PDT

what do you guys think of CAT?

has dropped significantly since it's ATH. I feel like it is taking a big hit due to the tariffs, but the company overall is super strong and prominent in the construction industry, which is booming now.

Adding to my watch-list for a buy.
