Questions to ask when forming a partnership. Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:38 AM PDT Hey guys, I run a very very small business part time on the side and met another guy who runs a similar buisness bigger then mine. We each have equipment and skills that the other could use so it seems like a partnership would make sense. It would allow me to do a lot more than I am doing now. We are looking to both go from part time to full time in this business. So my question is when we sit down to talk about teaming up and potentially becoming one business what are some questions I should ask? What is information I am going to want to know and clarifications I will need to make before I move forward? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

What is the Easiest Free Wordpress Theme to Customize? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:13 AM PDT Hi all, I'm a partner with a new startup baking business and we're looking to create our website using Wordpress. I'm fairly new to Wordpress development and I wanted to get the community's opinion/experience on what the easiest Wordpress theme would be in terms of customization. Here are some criteria we're looking for:
I look forward to hearing your input! [link] [comments] |
I just started making money daily with my app....NOW WHAT Posted: 29 Jun 2018 09:05 PM PDT For the sake of argument I want to bring forth a brief scenario because I would like to be as best prepared as possible for the coming months. Your app has launched and against all odds it has become profitable quickly. The marketing, months of struggle, failure, and hard work has all payed off and your app averages 200$ a day profit off ads alone. NOW WHAT? Your 21, You have never run a successful business before, because this is now a business. You haven't filed under a LLC, you haven't written up any contracts or made any arrangements besides the coding, design and marketing, of your app. What are some steps or must - do's now that you have a profitable business on your hands? EDIT: This has been my best post on REDDIT so far with the responses being things I had no clue on. Thank you for all your help. Just to be clear some of the steps I've already taken are. For visual references. I do have a kick starter that isn't live the kickstarter isn't for donation purposes on this thread and ISN'T LIVE so no donations can be took. It's for a visual representation of the merchandise i've been selling so far and the app. (IF against the rules please let me know and I'll take down asap) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coast2coastapp/685874980?ref=523891&token=07a2b035

My Kickstarter is not converting, but I'm pretty sure it is a solid product. Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:13 AM PDT I have a product on Kickstarter now, that I have good reason to believe is a solid product, but the page doesn't seem to be converting well. The product is a new type of magnetic jar for your spices (I call it MagnetJar). Instead of one of those little tins with a magnet on the bottom, this is a proper jar that has magnets in its side. Honestly, it's a great product. I've been using prototypes for 2 years now. I put up an MVP on Amazon using stock parts that I assembled myself. Total sales volume was modest, about 600 sets over 24 months, or about 3600 jars, but returning customer data was fantastic. 50% of people either returned to buy more than 1 set, or bought 2 or more sets at the beginning. And if a repeat customer is your biggest compliment, this product is looking good. I didn't do any marketing because I wanted to see how it would organically attract attention on the listing. (Here is the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/MagnetJar-Classic-Magnetic-Powerful-Magnet/dp/B01AM9GE9E The product was originally $20, but I raised it to $32 before my Kickstarter, to make sure that the old version was not cheaper than the new one.) So I redesigned the jar with the help from some USA factories. Now it is shatterproof, stronger grip, etc, and the product is ready to put some more effort behind it. This is the version that, in theory, could be at Container Store and not stick out like a sore thumb. Here is the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magnetjar/magnetjar-eliminate-spice-clutter-and-frustration/ (As an aside, of course, if you like what you see, I would love your backing support!) I'm in the position where I've demonstrated modest sales and repeat customers on a previous MVP, but the new campaign is just not cutting it. I'm driving traffic with FB ads, and a couple thousand clicks did maybe 15 sales. Everyone seems to have the "messy spices" problem, and everyone who uses MagnetJar likes it, so I feel like something is wrong with the pitch, and I don't think it is a product problem. In the pitch, everything is "easy easy easy" because I think that's the main appeal. What do you guys think? What in the value prop is not coming across? [link] [comments] |
What can I do in the meantime that I am in student debt? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:36 AM PDT Im 22. I will be in debt for the next three years at least. My biggest barrier to entry obviously is the startup cost for the kinds of businesses that I want to do and think that id be good at. (I mention this because I'd prefer not to get into the software development field which has a low barrier of entry alot of people would recommend on here.) So with that option aside I don't know what else is out there that somebody my age and in debt can and should be doing? What am I supposed to be doing that could lead to entrepreneurship or at the very least so that every single day of the next three years is productive and eventually build up to that goal? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:27 AM PDT So this post yesterday got me thinking and talking about mass-emailing people. I was kinda surprised at the price paid - I've written a bunch of email macros, and they're pretty basic and simple. So I wrote one specifically for r/Entrepreneur! You can find it in my github here! It's the file called "Mass Email Macro". It's very simple. You put in your email addresses into the table, create the message you want to craft on the main page, and you hit run! It doesn't auto-send - it pops up, completely written. A few reasons for this: Now, as you can see, I did some customization with this. Next to the e-mail address, I put the name of the client. Then in the subject and the body of the e-mail, I referenced the name of the client with an index formula. This lets you customize your emails for each client in anyway you want. For example, an AR email could be "Hey "&Index(EmailTable[Name],IterativeNumber)"&", I see you owe us &"Index(EmailTable[Amount],IterativeNumber)"&". Please pay me, you're "&"Index(EmailTable[days],IterativeNumber)"&" overdue" Alt+Enter creates a linebreak inside of a cell - otherwise you're just going to have one long line sent out. A note, since I was asked this: This works with Excel. This will not work with Google sheets. Now for the shameless plugs - skip this section if you don't want to read them (Heck, I wouldn't want to read them!). I write Excel sheets and Excel macros for a living. I've written hundreds of macros and workbooks for people, and I'd love to work with you to automate as much of your business as you feel comfortable. My rates are reasonable, and my website can be found [here!](JansenExcel.com) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:20 PM PDT I was offered a 8% return on a 50k investment for 60 months. I don't really plan on doing anything with the money at this point so I thought it would be good to invest it somewhere. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:16 PM PDT I was hooked, I was under the pressure of becoming a full fledged entrepreneur. If you look back 50 years from now, no one in their right mind would have ever even entertain such preposterous thoughts in their hippocampus but now entrepreneurship has become romanticized and put on a pedestal for everyone to look at.. And so as I grew up from being a happy child constantly being reminded of how special I was into a rebellious teenager who spat in the face of society and finally into a confused adolescent who can barely hold his life together, I too became dependant onto one of the worst drugs human beings created - Hope, hope of becoming an entrepreneur. It is impossible to catch at first glance as it starts so innocently. "What are you reading there son?" my father asked. "Nothing really, just want to broaden my horizons. Heard of a fellow by the name of Robert Kiyosaki?" The ball started rolling, it is the snowball effect. For warren buffet this resulted in unwavering wealth. For me however, this was just the beginning of a bottomless rabbit hole that I dug myself. I jumped from one book to another, believing that the "secret" is just over the shoulder right there in the next chapter. Being willfully blind by the crippling fear of execution. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:13 PM PDT So I'm 27. Engineer during the day. Living near Fort Smith, AR. Good with cameras, editing, etc. I hunt and fish a lot. I want to start a side gig/business but I need some ideas. I've read a lot online, but nothing is really jumping out at me. [link] [comments] |
How did you go about hiring your first employee? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:10 PM PDT Hoping to learn how others took the leap from solo business owner to having a team. I'm curious how you overcame the catch 22 of needing more people to grow but not having enough money to pay two people's salary. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:03 PM PDT I know the title may be confusing so I'll explain from the start. I manage a small business (retail) selling product A. (Let's call it a niche) Product B goes REALLY well with A and we started carrying a small selection in the store. I realized the potential for another online site to sell product B, and discussed it with the owner of the business I manage. (I'd consider him a good friend, but also my boss. I speak openly with him, and initially my job is to make him money so...) he thinks it's a great idea and decides to support it. I came up with the name, idea, and everything. Using our company funds, (his money) I purchased the domain ($2,000) and we ended up over the course of a few months with around $50,000 in inventory. We transformed half of our shop into a show place for product B. The website I built in my own time outside of work. We have a DBA for the website name. I probably spent every evening for about 2 weeks on it (about 3 hours a night, slow I know, but I had never built a website before.) and launched the site. Over three months I have about 750 subscribers and have had 30 orders, with about $3,000 in revenue. I also have taken the product to trade shows on the weekends and have generated ~$20,000 in sales via this route. I plan to continue the trade show route to direct traffic and get people signed up on the site, but also to make sales. There are around 500 products in the site currently. The site is averaging a little over 100 people per day, and is growing all the time. I feel I could grow it even faster if I worked harder on updating the site and adding more content. Also it's a niche market that would show peak sales around holiday months (winter.) (im guessing) My problem is that I'm putting a lot into this with no promise of return, other than my existing salary for my job with the other business. I still do my job managing the store, and update/work on the site at home. Do I have any grounds to ask for part ownership of the new company/website? I understand he put up all the financial backing, but I feel like I'm doing all the work. Building the site, managing it, grinding it out at the trade shows. I honestly could put MORE effort into it in my free time and really grow the business more, and I feel like having a stake in the company would help motivate this. I have thought about asking for 20-30% for the work I have put in, and not ask for any finances from it until the company becomes profitable on its own. Is this reasonable? If I stop, there isn't anyone currently that could take my place managing the site. I'm sure the owner could figure it out but I'm not sure he would want to and it would take a very long time. Looking for advice. Thanks! Edit: a bit more info on the business itself... website launched and started attending the trade shows about 4 months ago. I have attended 3 trade shows and have 4-5 more booked for the coming months. Average margin is around 30% on sales. [link] [comments] |
Interesting starter eComm site for sale Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:09 AM PDT Hello! I have an opportunity for those looking to get into eCommerce with a bit of a head start. At the start of the year I tested a market and validated an idea before diving in. I created and launched a single product eComm shop, fostered relationships with suppliers and sourced inventory. Although the opportunity is great and it could really take off into self a sustaining business, I do not have the time to commit to this project anymore, as a SaaS product I launched around the same time has taken off and requires my full time commitment, and SaaS is really more tailered to my skill set. I've been letting it sit rather idle the last 6 weeks and have decided to put the offer out to see if anyone would be interested in taking on the project on. What's included:
I'm asking $25,000, and am mostly looking to cover initial launch costs. I'm in no rush to sell, but I'm open to any conversations! I will also accept crypto. Serious enquires only please! [link] [comments] |
You guys have helped me SO MUCH! Round two? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:41 AM PDT First, you guys are awesome! I've gotten so much good help from this subreddit and I'm really grateful. Some of the suggestions are requiring me to learn more, so if you take a peek and don't see your suggestion, just know that I'm a sow learner, but a hard worker. I started a web-store, and I get porr-decent traffic. In one week I've had almost 500 views. My real goal is to start making enough 20.00-50.00/wk to pay for advertising on facebook. I haven't had a single sale! It's driving me crazy. Do you min dtaking a look at cclothes.co and giving me more feedback? Is my design terrible, are my products too expensive or sub-par? Help! Also please buy something lol. [link] [comments] |
Office Phone System - Common Question With Few Answers Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:00 AM PDT Like the title says, what is everyone using for your call center? This seems like an area with tons of providers and wide ranging features. I own a law firm. We've grown out of our space and will be moving into our own building in the next 60 days. I've raised this question a couple of times while subleasing an office but now we have complete control over office IT infrastructure. One huge pain point is the phone system. We get around 40 phone calls a day. Receptionist answers and does a warm transfer to attorney, or discusses briefly with attorney and then switches back to client to take message. Ideal System: -All calls ring to receptionist. She warm transfers to attorneys, who will use their cell phones since they are usually out of office or on the move. -If attorney needs to call out, then has ability to have caller ID show office line (is this doable from cell phone? Use Google voice now but need every attorney to have this ability). If can only do this from in office fine, but definitely not ideal. -I need to maintain control of numbers. If attorney leaves they cannot take the number with them (which touches on the point above) -I'd also like to have multiple numbers to track what offices the client is calling (we have 4 offices throughout a region, this would help us track client acquisition metrics) If the receptionist needs to use a computer as a call center that is no problem. I'd like input on anything from the most advanced and costly options, down to the low cost scrappy entrepreneur options. But at the end of the day, I need a state of the art system, I don't want to upgrade in another 5 yrs. I also welcome any criticism on my current process, wants, or suggestions in setting up the IT side of things. Thanks for your input! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:11 AM PDT Need the security of my job and all my salary to live. Need a minimum of 3k per month. Did any of you either a) Run your startup alongside your job and become profitable enough to leave your job in a reasonable time frame or b) Take a loan and quit your job and pray you'll make it soon enough? Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 02:47 PM PDT I hope everyone is doing good and more prosperity to you all! I'm really bored and kind of curious, so I thought I'd start a general discussion on how all of the entrepreneurs here are getting by. I'll start: I run a couple of E-com businesses and generate a comfortable income from those, soon about to use that capital to expand into SMMA and ATM management as well. Good days ahead. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 11:26 PM PDT Hey all! My wife and I live overseas 11 months out of the year and we want to start a freelance writing business. I would love to talk with someone about the actual business side of things, as I am having a fair amount of trouble finding information on how to create/file/register my business with the US government. Seems like all the information I am getting from google is about how to be a freelance writer, not how to create the actual business. Should I start off by registering as an LLC? Or are there better business models for expats? Really ANY insight in this area is highly appreciated. Do you know of any good blogs that address this topic? Send them my way! Thank you so much:D [link] [comments] |

Would I be crazy to take on this project? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 06:33 PM PDT I have an idea to open up a specific type of coffee shop. I'm pretty passionate about this and think it could be successful and it's in area where I think there is demand for it. The only issue is, my parents think I'm a bit crazy for taking this on while I'm still so young and not "stable" yet. I'm in my early 20's. I have a stable 9-5 job, I make ok money, I'm not poor by any means but I'm not rich either. I don't have any savings that I could rely to start this business, but do have possible connections that could invest money a and help me get started. I also don't want to do this and have my family disown me or something. I'm very close to them. Does anyone have any advice about my situation? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
