Husband being accused of stalking a coworker who wants to remain anonymous - WI Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:55 AM PDT My husband was called into a meeting by HR and management yesterday at work. He was told that there is a "young woman" who works in another department, that has made reports against him. Her complaints were the following:
HR asked my husband several questions, including if he "liked" anybody in the office, and what streets he takes when he goes home. He told them that he has only lived in town for less than a year and just moved into a new house on the other side of town. He said he doesnt "like" anybody in the office and that hes married. My husband and I happen to work together in the same department. Our offices are right next to the break room. It's where we go to get coffee, water, and use the bathroom. Both of us rarely see people from other departments in there, and when we do they dont ever really try to start a conversation. We have no idea who could be making these accusations. Most days we carpool except for days when we have conflicting errands. Even then, we tend to come and go at the same time and try to park near eachother. Since HR won't disclose who made the complaint, it's going to be complicated avoiding this person. (And apparently avoiding them might set them off judging by their reaction to #3.) We live in a small town and work for the biggest employer in the city. It's very easy to run into coworkers. For now we plan on driving to work together and buddying up for breaks. Is there anything my husband should be doing to cover his basis and protecting himself? [link] [comments] |
Best route to go for my 11 year old sister Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:55 PM PDT My 11 year old sister is being neglected by her father. Our mother died last year, and she is left with her father, my stepfather. He has expected her to keep the entire house like an adult and faces extended groundings where she can't have contact with other family members. What she has told me: he screams at her and calls her names when she doesn't do something to his standards and makes her stay up extremely late to clean, he tells her false stories about family to make her apprehensive of us, he doesn't cook for her (she eats freezer meals). What I know: he doesn't work, has not gotten her therapeutic help to deal with mom passing, I walked through the house today and there is no covering on the floor (concrete from pulling up carpet), dog piss/shit has soaked into the concrete and dog piss and shit are in her room. The entire house reeks and trash is everywhere. Mold in the toilets and mold on dishes in the sink. She said he does not hit her. I'm probably missing things but I'm frazzled. I lived with this guy when I was younger, we got taken away when I was 15 from him beating me and my two other siblings and treating us like slaves. I currently have her with me, he left on a week vacation with a lady and I just found out she's been bouncing from my cousins house and my grandmothers while he's gone. We live in Alabama. Dhr in my County absolutely sucks. Do I have enough to get her removed? She's willing to talk and we have multiple places for her to live. [link] [comments] |
PA - Dentist broke my front teeth during procedure, now I have to pay $3000 for implants. Recourse? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:44 AM PDT Hey there! Trying to figure out what my recourse is at the moment as I'm a college student that is now missing both my front teeth. It's embarrassing, destroyed my self-confidence, and it's hard to speak to clients at work. Last year I finally got better dental insurance through my work so I made sure everything was taken care of in bulk. About $2600ish out of pocket and a couple months later, my dental work was all caught up. This involved having a root canal done on both my front teeth. Several months later, I started getting a lump above my right front tooth and it turned out I would need something called an apico treatment because there was still some root left that caused an infection. My dentist referred me to a specialist, who said she wanted to try redoing the root canal first, but also noticed some shadowing on my other front tooth and therefore she wanted to redo that root canal as well, just in case (at $400 per redo AFTER insurance, of course she wanted to). During the redo root canal, I could hear her mumbling something that I obviously couldn't distinguish over the drill in my mouth. When she finally finished, the first thing I heard was "so we're going to try getting you an emergency appointment with your primary dentist because you need that done ASAP, you have no tooth". Lo and behold, they gave me a mirror and the tooth was broken off under the gumline. I returned to my primary dentist the next day (the earliest anyone could see me) and he said he wished she would have explained to him that it broke off below the gums because there's nothing they can do to try to save the tooth at that point. He continued that, even if he managed it, I'd never be able to actually bite into something with my front teeth again. They looked at my other (left) front tooth and said that one would have to be removed as well now, both to be replaced by implants. The specialist refunded my out of pocket expenses and reversed the charges to the insurance company. My primary refunded me for all the work they did on those teeth specifically, cleaning, the extractions, etc. They even got me set up with a free "flipper" so I at least have some fake teeth to smile with but it's still impossible to eat or talk with it in. After everything my primary dentist refunded me, I'm still looking at an additional $2800 now to pay for my implants, after insurance and all the discounts they could offer me. The specialist says it only happened because of the work that my primary dentist already did, that my teeth couldn't handle it. My primary dentist mentioned something about being thrown under the bus since they were able to do both root canals without breaking my teeth so the specialist should have been able to do the redo just as well. SO, now that story time is over, do I have any recourse here? Should I be speaking with the specialist about the cost of my implants since she's the one that actually broke the teeth? Should I be asking for more from my primary dentist since the specialist says my teeth only broke because of the work the primary dentist performed? Do I need to suck it up and try to save up the ~$2800 for the implants myself? I was just saving up money to pay it myself (as I'm not very confrontational) but my coworker was very adamant that I shouldn't be paying for it, they should, I need to get a lawyer if I have to, and so on. I'm not looking for anything extra such as suffering, self-esteem issues, resulting issues at work, etc. Just the cost to get teeth back to.. well.. being in my mouth. Sorry for the long post and thanks to anyone who took the time to read! TL;DR - Specialist broke my front tooth during redo root canal. As a result, both teeth needed extracted and replaced with implants. Specialist blames the primary, primary blames the specialist. Just want my mouth back to normal and can't immediately afford the $2800 implant bill on a college student budget. [link] [comments] |
Coworker fabricated evidence to get me fired and was caught. Can I take him to court? TN Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:56 AM PDT Earlier this week I got called into a meeting and was informed that one of my coworkers had gone to our immediate supervisor, his supervisor, and the president of the company saying that I was manipulating our computer system to steal his clients or potential clients. They checked on his story and found that he was lying. They called him out on it and he tried to deflect, but I've seen him do the same thing when a customer catches him in a lie. He is a compulsive liar and will fabricate whole stories to cover for himself. He isn't going to face any consequences at the office, so I would like to pursue a legal remedy. If I can prove he fabricated the story with the intention of getting me fired in order to assume my accounts can I make a civil case for defamation? [link] [comments] |
Landlord had property thrown away after fire Posted: 30 Jun 2018 02:37 AM PDT Two weeks ago my refrigerator started a fire in my home which caused extensive damage to the home rendering it uninhabitable. I was told i could have all the time needed to remove my possessions. I was continously removing my property from the house. This week my landlord sent in a cleaning crew. Everything in the garage, which was not involved in the fire, was tossed into a dumpster and hauled away. They even dumped all of my plants out of my container garden and thew away the pots. They also thew away boxes that I had hastily packed in the living room and kitchen. I am wondering if they broke any laws. I was told the day of by email but I am now living 45 minutes away with my wife's family and couldn't get away. I responded and told them that I still hadn't finished removing my belongings but was told that I had enough time. I had no renter's insurance so I have no way to replace anything. I was trying to salvage as much as I could but now I've lost everything that was left. I don't know what to do. This happened in Nebraska [link] [comments] |
A 35 year old man texting a 13 year old girl every day. Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:50 AM PDT Is it legal for a 35 year old man to be texting a 13 year old girl every single day for years? For some context, he is her coach in a sport, but they rarely talk about it compared to the rest of their conversations. He has told her his deepest secrets that he hasn't even told his wife. Also, he knows that she has a crush on him. Additionally, her parents dont know about this relationship. This seems suspicious to me and I can tell it's an unhealthy relationship, but I'd like to know if the law can get involved here. Thanks in advance! Edit: Both of them and I live in California. Edit 2: I didn't think of this, but many people seem to be bringing these up. I am neither her age or the man himself. The sport I am talking about is weightlifting. This man coaches me along with multiple other students (including the 13 yo.) with ages ranging from 13 to 50. I am currently in college, and have become friends with her older brother, and in turn have learned these things from what she has told him and me. [link] [comments] |
[IN] I caught my ex boyfriend with pornographic photos of my younger sister. Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:15 AM PDT My boyfriend and I had were living together for a while. We started having trouble and asked him to leave the home. My boyfriend and I at the time shared with each other access to our google drives on our iPhones. He had been acting very weird lately so I logged onto his drive to snoop (I know I'm awful). Scrolling through I noticed a lot of photographs of younger girls. A couple of the picture were of my younger sibling that it looked like he may have taken himself. She doesn't know about these photos because she wasn't aware they were being taken. I immediately addressed it and broke off connections with him. However, my landlord is his father and I have felt pressured by holding this information in by having a house held over my head. I've been being harassed by his mother, and his father acts like he has no intentions of protecting me from any of them and won't tell them directly that they are not aloud there's. He claims his ex wife is crazy and I need to protect myself. I have been trying to move but finding a place has been a bit challenging and the area that I live and I can only move around with long a certain perimeter due to the kids being foster kids in the area. Anyway, I've been sitting on this information and proof of him admitting these things because I'm fearful either his mother will do something irrational because of all the harassment, or that his dad(my landlord) has been implying that I won't have a house if I say anything. I don't know the right way about turning this in without getting myself in trouble. Ie I am turning this in, I just want to do it carefully, right, and SAFELY for everyone. Now I'm really concerned because my sister had come to me saying that sometimes she would find his phone in her room pulled up on porn. What do I do for all variables of this situation? Police is sending us to court over infraction that doesn't seem to exist. Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:31 PM PDT My cousin, who is from Mexico, is visiting my family in Indiana. He is here on a tourist visa and has only been here for 3 weeks. He took my car out while I was at work and went to the park. A cop stopped him after he was already parked and out of the car in the parking lot. After asking documentation he had him call me to pick up my car. Once there, the cop told me my cousin wasn't allowed to drive in the US because he did not have a US license and proceeded to give him a citation and a date in court. I told the officer that he was allowed to drive since he was here on a tourist visa and that he was even able to rent a car, which he did once in Chicago. He started telling us not to argue with him and that we could make that argument to the judge instead. We stopped asking questions for the sake of not escalating the situation, it was obvious by his language that he was starting to do so though we were nothing but polite. Once we got home we looked up the law, which we were pretty sure we knew, and turned out we were right. He can drive for up six months on a foreign license. My cousin is scheduled to go back before the court date, which was also given for bogus reasons. I also don't want to pay several hundred in court fees for a non-existent law that we didn't break. Is there anything that I can do? [link] [comments] |
The investigator on my rape case was charged with sexual misconduct. Where do I go from here? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:48 PM PDT I was raped by an active duty PMO Marine in February. Edit: the attack took place in New Bern, NC and the attacker is stationed at MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock, NC. TL;DR at bottom. The case was going as I'd have expected it to at first. I went in for an interview two days after spending a day in the hospital having a rape kit done. I gave what was called 'the most thoroughly detailed statement' and I only cried once. All persons who were witness to my state of drunkenness and the state of the alleged rapist's sobriety were listed and a few of them interviewed. The alleged rapist was able to put off being interviewed for almost two months due to military training and NCIS not cooperating, but he was relieved of PMO duties pending the investigation results. He finally went in for an interview last month. This is when the Sheriff's Deputy assigned to my case started ignoring my calls and texts. Eventually he told me that there wasn't much physical evidence (the opposite of what I was told when my exam and kit were done, they said there was very obvious forced sexual trauma and I was torn, bleeding and bruised in all of the wrong places), and that he's trying to make a case that's more than my word against his (alleged rapist). I have tried contacting him numerous times in the last month and have gotten no response. I've not been pushy but asked simple questions like, "Will you please give me a short update on my case?" He told me he needed a second interview with me over a month ago and I told him to tell me when and I'd be there. Nothing. I called the DA and was told by the assistant I have the most capable person investigating my case and to be patient. A key witness was dating my best friend and when she broke up with him, he and his friends suddenly changed their tune and started openly telling whomever would listen that I'm a liar and the guy had consensual sex with me and I regretted it. They have called me crazy and said I am just trying to ruin this dude's life for fun. Forget that I never even knew he existed until the night I was raped. There are screen shots of his female friends talking about me and how this guy (friend's ex) is just doing whatever he can to mess with her, through me. I have all of this saved for when I have to prove it's malicious intent, or whatever. Here's where it gets worse: I was contacted today and made aware that the deputy on my case has not only charges against him for having an affair with a woman HE CHARGED with arson, the wife of another deputy, but also that he was BANNED from teaching B-LET courses at the community college for being caught having an illicit relationship with a student and sexual misconduct. I did all the research on him Google could help me with, and found three articles outlining his affair and one outlining the sexual misconduct stating it hadn't been proven and was just a claim. He is still working and is still investigating sexual assault and rape cases. Two months ago I got a gut feeling that he was biased in my assaulter's favor, and I brought it up to the DA's assistant and was told it was nothing to worry about, that he's being thorough and not biased. I posted about this situation in r/rape and possibly in this sub months back and it was suggested that I get an attorney and consider suing the perpetrator in civil court for a monetary award to cover medical bills, counseling and emotional damages. I told myself I'd wait to see if it went to criminal court and then decide, but now I'm sure it won't and I've decided to do it. What do I do next? Who do I talk to? What do I look to sue the alleged rapist for exactly? What do I do about my investigator and the information I've been given? I know the drama involving the witnesses will be squashed by the legal team. They gave sworn statements on my behalf, stating I'd been turning down another two men who hit on me all night and that I was firm in saying I had a boyfriend and wasn't interested. They also all stated that the guy who attacked me has tried before, in their presence, to have sex with a drunk girl who was the ex of a friend in the group and they had to intervene. So as much as it hurts to know people are shitty enough to change their literal witness statement and mess with a legal case because of a breakup in a friend group, I'm decently sure it won't really change much. I'm also decently sure, especially since I haven't been able to get the sheriffs deputy to answer my calls or texts in over a month, that my case isn't going to criminal trial and wasn't ever going to. I want to sue. I need advice. Edit: while I know this sounds like an unbelievable Law and Order SVU and NCIS cross over, it's not. It's really what's happening. I can't believe it myself. TL;DR the deputy on my rape case has been accused of sexual misconduct and charged with having an adulterous affair with a woman he charged with arson. My case has gone nowhere and he refuses to respond to my calls and texts asking for updates; I haven't heard from him in well over a month and the rape took place in February. I want to sue my attacker in civil court and want to know what I need to do to move in that direction. Edit: I forgot to mention that the Marine Corps issued a protective order against him on my behalf when he was accused. Three times now he's showed up to places I was already occupying after being told I'd be there. All three times he had to be asked to leave by security (country dance club) and all three times I informed his Gunny and was told it wouldn't happen again. I have purposely made sure not to go anywhere I was told he'd be and have done everything I've been told to do. There are also screen shots of texts showing him being told I'd be somewhere and him confirming he's not be there before showing up in each case. [link] [comments] |
Some questions about the rules for gathering Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:46 AM PDT Location - India, Mumbai/Maharashtra. Basically a few of us wanted to know the rules for what a gathering/protest constitutes. Specifically, what is the minimum number of people before something can be called a gathering. If me and five others are meeting up, is it still a gathering? What if its twenty? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 02:11 AM PDT Long story short my father is a severely ill alcoholic and currently hospitalized. He is the guardian of his special needs brother. In his absence their sister is supposed to assume guardianship and provide care for him. She is refusing. There are no other family members to take custody of my uncle. What are my options? Legal options about grandfather who is too old to drive? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:43 AM PDT Star grandfather is about 84, can hardly walk, has Parkinson's and a number of other issues. He also takes some sleeping medication that makes him drowsy or loopy sometimes and he also has hallucinations from that same sleeping medicine. He's a very bad driver. His car is literally filled with dents, scrapes, bumps and everything else you can imagine from everything he has hit. The other day, he crashed into a 7-Eleven.... It wasn't bad. Very minor. But it still happened. He basically mistook the gas for the brake and Florida it and went over the curb and hit into the wall of the building, and knocked over some propane tanks. He was cited for careless driving And we told him that he should not be driving. He has hit trees in the past few years. It was a couple weeks ago that he drove around our house through the grass and literally hit a Hanging Tree Branch that scraped against his car. He is a really really bad driver. But he refuses to let someone else drive him. He refuses to stop driving. It's scary because it's like he's going to keep driving until he hits and kills someone or seriously does damage to something and he doesn't care about that. he is literally so insistent on having his freedom and driving and denying everything that's wrong that he's just hell-bent on continuing driving even though he just hit a 7-Eleven. Is there any legal recourse we can take as the family towards moving him away from driving? Because it's kind of absurd. He literally is a danger to people on the road. Seriously a danger. And he refuses to listen to anyone about that [link] [comments] |
Conned into rehab and potentially facing guardianship Posted: 30 Jun 2018 04:52 AM PDT Texas: This isn't the first time my family estate has screwed me over. A couple years ago they forced a MOU that locked me out of larger sums of money against my will and was given no option but to sign it, as it's not covered in the trust instrument and distributions are discretionary. Fast forward to recently, they bribe me to go to rehab for ptsd and violate my hippa rights basically saying that I have to sign releases that allow the therapist to communicate diagnosis to them and treatment, in order to be able to receive a check for around 20k. Facility does the same thing and violates my rights by saying to be eligible to transfer from one facility to the other I have to give consent to the estate to communicate with them. Now they have access to my mental health stuff which can be used against me. Please help me as I'm running out of options. [link] [comments] |
Would it be legal/smart to change the locks to my deceased father’s house? [New Mexico] Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:53 PM PDT My father died recently without a will so his property will have to be distributed according to New Mexico intestate law. The only heirs will be me, my mother, and my step-sister. Because he bought his house before marrying my mom, and he never put her name on it, it's considered separate property right? In NM, I think my mother would only get 25% of separate property. But the thing is, we are afraid that his daughter, my step-sister, will come and start taking things at the house before my father's property is properly distributed. And since we live in that house, can we change the locks on it? My step-sister is in her 40's and is completely independent while me and my mother are basically my father's household family. Us 3 live in that house, while she lives in a different city. We want to make distributing property as fair and stressless as possible. So in my eyes, we should hold all his property and take inventory of it until the court decides who gets what. But I just feel unsafe that my step-sister will begin taking things. We currently have difficulties with her because she was the last one to be in charge of my father's wallet, which now she claims she cant find. And we need his driver's license to take care of all the financial problems associated with his death. What should we do? [link] [comments] |
My landlord is trying to blackmail me... Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:19 PM PDT Hi Reddit, 60 days ago I was given a no cause eviction for the house I moved into in Boring, oregon - and signed a one year lease for- on July 1st 2017. When we moved in, the landlord assured us we would be able to stay there 6+ years, so we were pretty disappointed when they sent us the eviction letter. The reason they cited in the letter was a need to update the plumbing which would take several months, at which point they wanted their mother to move in. They then changed their tune and said that because we are extroverts and "deserve weekends away, to be able to have friends over and have pets, that it just wasn't working out." We never signed on for total isolation. While this is a dick move on their part, I understand it is totally legal. The lease was up and they gave us 60 days. This was a financial hardship for us, but we just wanted to get it all behind us. We didn't cause any trouble, make any threats, and we're leaving the house in excellent condition. Then today I received a Docusign agreement requesting that we agree not to engage in any activity that would disparage their reputation. This agreement also included information about the deposit we are owed. I find an NDA to be a curious document on its own in this situation, and the inclusion of any talk about our deposit makes this sound sketchy as hell. She seems to be implying that we won't get our deposit back if we don't sign. Our lease has no mention of this arrangement. It's a standard "leave our house in good condition and you'll get your money back" deal. Backstory: the landlord is an attorney who owns a cannabis focused law firm. She is also part owner in a cannabis farm on the property that is skirting taxes and laundering money***.*** I think she may be worried that we are going to let people know about her business dealings. Again- we have never threatened to do this, nor implied that we would. The NDA came out of the blue. The letter was sent from her own legal firm. There are no terms in the NDA that work to our benefit besides getting our deposit back (in addition to extra funds agreed to for some work we did on the house). The total amount of the refund isn't a huge amount ($1000) but we can't afford to lose it. Is what she's asking even legal? A friend advised me to consider negotiating an agreement that actually benefits us- some kind of reimbursement for our moving costs, time, pain in the ass, etc. We weren't going to cause them problems anyway, but I don't like the turn this just took. It's aggressive and completely unnecessary, and I'm certainly not going to sign away my right to talk to my friends about her being a shitty landlord, just to get back the deposit I was already owed. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:08 PM PDT My elderly, financially-struggling stepmom "cosigned" a 6-year car loan her friend's son in 2014. She does not have possession of the car, a set of car keys, the loan paperwork, nor is she in contact with the son or her friend. Because she's in an assisted living home, all mail is forwarded to my stepbrother and sister-in-law who manage her finances, pay bills, etc. We only became aware of the loan due to the driver's missed payments. We immediately contacted him with a demand to sell or refinance under his own name. We have an email response from him in January 2018 that he would pursue the refinance, but he has not (despite several requests). Since then, due to more missed payments and an unpaid parking ticket, we have come to learn:a) The car is registered in her name (realized in January 2018 when car registration paperwork arrived)b) She is not the co-signer, but instead is the primary on the loan (learned from the Nissan Financing Department). (realized in June 2018 when there was an unpaid parking ticket). Questions:

[OH] Hit a pothole on the freeway and the DOT will reimburse for repair fees but not tow? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:49 AM PDT I'll try to keep this short: a few months ago I hit a pothole on the freeway in Ohio that took out both of the tires and rims on the passenger-side of my car. On top of the repairs and the alignment I also had to pay for a tow to the closest mechanic, and, because I wasn't exactly "walking distance" from my home (roughly 35 miles out), and I didn't have any friends in the area I also needed to use Lyft/Uber to get home that night. I was instructed / advised by the police at the scene (9~10 other cars were similarly damaged by the same pothole in the span of 45~60 minutes so local police ended up coming out to shut down the freeway while the potholes got fixed) to file a report with the department of transportation in order to get reimbursed for damages. I filed my report, the department of transportation opened an investigation, and they recently concluded that I should be reimbursed for the repairs but not the tow or the Lyft/Uber home the night of the accident. I disagree with the notion that I shouldn't be reimbursed for the tow and transportation home the night of the accident (entirely on the basis of common sense: the tow and the Lyft/Uber were only necessary because the pothole left my car unsafe to drive), but, do I have any legal grounds to dispute that claim? Technically being forced to use PTO on a holiday. Advice? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:47 AM PDT Located in Minnesota. I apologise for any poor grammar or formatting. I'm currently on mobile and a bit livid. I'm a massage therapist. I work for a smaller spa that recently was bought out by a larger organization. We're keeping the same name and brand and the overall changes to the spa have been minimal. Before the buy out, our spa was closed on federal holidays. The big organization stays open 365 days a year. The higher ups hadn't made a clear decision on what to do until a few days ago. The decision is that each spa will decide to stay open or not and if they decide to close, employees can use PTO. This news came less than a week before July 4th (major US holiday) and my manager decided to close the spa and remove all the appointments on the books that day without our consent. I just brought this up to my manager and voiced my dislike of having to use my time off. He said that I can choose to come in (he said he'd come and and open the spa just for me- he has zero personal life) but pointed out I probably would just sit around all day without business. I am paid purely by the number of massages I do in a day so no business means no money. I had to two appointments on the 4th that got removed and I believe him when he says that I'd get little if any work. Alternatively, I can use PTO to get paid as if my books were completely full. I feel like I've been put into a tight spot. I can either come in and most likely make no money or use my limited PTO. If I choose neither I run the risk of losing my full time benefits. I don't know what to do at this point so any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Roofing Company did a poor clean-up Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:58 AM PDT Recently, a roofing company came to my street (located in Pennsylvania) to work-on/replace the roofs of some of the houses on my street. I did not hire them for any services, but I let them use my driveway to leave some of their equipment. In addition, many tiles the roofs feel down onto my driveway. Before they left, they did clean up, but did a poor job. When I went to check, I found a nail left in front of my doorstep, and saw many tiles left in my trees. Is there anything I can do? Can you record TSA when they hand-inspect your bag? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:41 PM PDT [United States] I'm a photographer and I always request that my camera body and lenses get hand-inspected to protect them from the X-Rays. The last time I was at the airport, TSA treated my belongings like trash and ended up cracking one of my lenses. They claim they say no rough treatment in the security camera footage, which is just them covering their asses. Am I allowed to videotape the agent/s when they inspect my camera equipment for the protection of my property? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:27 PM PDT I recently got offered my first job out of college and promptly put together a cross country move within two weeks. I had never booked a moving company before and was unaware of the issues associated with using a broker company. The broker hired a separate company to pick up and deliver my things to my new home. From the day of pick up, things have not gone the way the broker promised they would. For starters, before pick up, the driver of the truck was supposed to weigh the truck before my belongings were loaded to get the starting weight. After my things were loaded, they were supposed to weigh the truck again and give me the weigh ticket that determined the final cost I would be responsible to pay upon delivery. The broker assured me this would happen and even told me I could follow the truck to the weigh station if I wanted to. I chose not to do this because I was awaiting other movers to come and take separate items to deliver to family members nearby who wanted them. When I asked for the initial weight from the driver, he had no idea what I was talking about and had to call his supervisors and ask if this was "a weight job." We still do not have a weigh ticket and have not been given an accurate final payment amount. The reason this is important is because we were assured our final cost would go down due to our items weighing less than average based on their system's specifications. The next time we hear from the movers or broker is after we call them a couple of days later for an update on where our things are since we had not heard from the driver and had no way to directly contact him (as we were previously promised). The broker explains to us that the driver of our truck had a death in the family after he picked up our things and promptly drove the truck to the company's warehouse (14 hours away from our starting destination) that same evening. We asked what that meant for our delivery date, June 4 (exactly one week after pickup), and they said they were unsure as they were looking for another driver to finish the route. We figured this was a minor setback, but trusted that they were doing what they could to get our shipment back on schedule. Fast forward to the day of expected delivery, we call both the broker and the moving company directly to find out where our things are and when they're due to arrive. We had just finished driving cross country ourselves and were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to start getting our new place in order. We are told by both companies that we had no estimate for delivery and that they were waiting for paperwork that the driver had (the bill of lading) before they could provide an estimated delivery date. This was concerning as that would mean they accepted our items off of the truck into their warehouse without any associated pick up. And we had no idea when the driver would return from bereavement or why he was allowed to have taken that documentation with him. It wasn't until the end of that week, Friday, that they told us they did indeed have the paperwork but we're just trying to reschedule the shipment. So far our interactions with this company have been very frustrating and show glaring disorganization issues. Since then, we have been waiting day after day for any update on when our items will be put on a truck. Every Monday I have been told they will put our shipment on a truck by the end of the week and it has not happened. After some google searches, I have found that the company the broker hired has an F on the BBB website and several complaints against it for bad practices. Yesterday, I was told by dispatch that our stuff would be on a truck that day, that they would call us when it was on the truck, and that it was to be delivered Sunday, July 1. Our stuff was picked up on May 28. We have been in our new place without our things since June 4. Today, June 30, I called to check on our things and we were told that our stuff did not get put on a truck and that we would have to wait until the end of next week for a next weekend delivery. I am losing my mind. I cannot wait another week. Our life has been on hold and extremely uncomfortable. We are bleeding money and have no way to budget for the final delivery cost, which at this point we really don't want to pay. The broker told us the company "legally" has 21 business days from the first date the delivery can be accepted (June 4) to deliver our items. That would put that last possible day at July 3rd according to the broker. But at this point, that looks nearly impossible. The drive from the warehouse to here is 12 hours and there are supposed to be restrictions on how long drivers can drive the truck per day (not sure of the actual law). I keep trying to contact the actual moving company on my own but every one of the several numbers I have go just ring and go to voicemail. Basically, I'm at my wits end and have no idea how to proceed. This has been an incredibly stressful and emotionally draining ordeal. I have been physically sick with anxiety every single day for the last month wondering if our stuff will ever get here, or if it will and it's all damaged. Any help or advice with how to proceed would be extremely helpful. I really need my stuff. Edit: Move from Florida to Colorado. Warehouse is in Texas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:09 AM PDT Feb 2018 in Colorado I noticed I had a credit card payment on my checking account in the amount of $600 (a little over), so I called and filed a fraudulent transaction. In April 2018 two more came out despite a block being put on the account, and these were reported and refunded. This happened several more times despite the blocks, and I started looking into it myself. The name on the payment is a rather unique first and surname, and it leads to a linked in for an employee at Wells Fargo as well as a few social media sites that also show the individual as an employee of WF. Going through the fraudulent transactions any that give a name gives only this same exact name for every charge - with the exception of one they all have the same name, and that one is the same company, just doesn't list a name. I called the Bank and passed along the information, and asked how exactly a block had been circumvented. After several minutes on hold they came back on and stated the blocks had been removed a few days prior to a subsequent fraudulent draft. They also stated that this was done by an employee of the bank, of which I have a recording of them stating (I record all my phone calls, it's handy and I'm in a single party consent state). I've gotten a couple follow up calls from corporate(?) about the matter as well as paper mail saying they are investigating it, but today it happened again. So Wells Fargo has delayed for several weeks, even their letters state they'd be done and have answers for me two weeks ago - and that letter arrived yesterday. I'm not sure if it's malicious or incompetence, but at this point I'm fairly sure there's a WF employee paying their credit card off with my account, and on my end the only thing I can do to stop it - block the transaction - is being undone. I've been told (not sure if this is correct for all branches) that even if I get a new card, since it's being drafted there is nothing I can do except close my account, as the checking account number cannot be changed. I assume they mean for me to reopen another account, but fuck all if I'm doing that after all this. The individual making the charges lives and works in another state, Virginia. Currently most funds have been moved to a local credit union, but the account at WF is still open. As I will not be able to log in and view transaction records if I close it, I thought it may be a good idea to keep it open to get copies of any info I need if this goes to an attorney. The smallest single transaction is $480, the largest is $1,100. Total amount is $8,300 plus some change, although this has all been refunded through the WF fraud department. The most recent one (today) is $890. What should I do? EDIT: Already called the police the second time it happened, I got a case number. And then it happened several times after that in the following months. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2018 07:53 PM PDT I live in a small apartment complex with a courtyard. There are a group of around 6-8 kids (4-10 yr. olds) that play in the courtyard all day. When I take my 3-year old 18 lb. French Bulldog to go potty (off leash) the kids will usually approach her and start running to get her to chase them. They laugh and scream and giggle loudly as she runs alongside them. I usually call her back and she stops, but the kids enjoy it so I let her run for a few minutes then we go back inside. Today I took my dog to go potty and one of the kids was sitting at the picnic table by herself. My dog did her business and was sniffing around as I chit chatted with the little girl about where her friends were. At some point my dog got up on the picnic table with her, and the girl took off running. My dog started running alongside her. The girl was giggling and I let my dog go as I'd done before. Everything seemed fine and they were having fun. They did a loop around the courtyard and everything seemed ok. The girl was squealing, which the kids do when they play with my dog, so I didn't think much of it. I wanted to go inside and start dinner so I called my dog but thought I heard the little girl... crying? I called my dog but she was in the zone. The girl was still running but kind of puttered out and I realized she was in fact crying. I scooped up my dog and asked her if she was ok, thinking she stubbed her toe, etc. Then her dad comes out and starts yelling at me, asking why I didn't stop my dog, etc. I apologized, asked the girl if she was ok, I said I thought they were playing. He said look at her (daughter), do you think she's playing, etc. I apologized again, I tried to explain she was giggling at first, I didn't know she didn't want to play, it won't happen again. I pick up my dog and start walking toward my apartment, and he follows me, gets within a foot of my face, saying he's going to call animal control, the management, etc. He steps onto my porch and I tell him that's enough, I heard him, please leave. He continues on, saying I don't know how to control my animal, etc. Another one of his friends (male) joins him on my porch. Again, I tell him I've heard him and to please leave my porch. I've never had this happen before and I'm scared. My dog has never had a problem, never bitten anyone, I never leave her unattended, she's always with me. Can Animal Control legally come and take my dog based on his word? I am in WA state. [link] [comments] |
[EU - SE&DE] denied Swedish maternity benefits - living abroad from country of employment Posted: 30 Jun 2018 01:04 AM PDT Hi! We would love to hear any advice on a tricky issue. My wife and I were both working in Germany for some years, and she got pregnant. Then I got a job in Sweden, and I moved country two months before she was due to give birth. She started her long term maternity leave from her German employer and followed me to Sweden 6 weeks before she gave birth. Then she gave birth, all good so far. We asked the German government if they would pay her maternity leave while she lives with me in Sweden - they said no, not if the baby doesn't live in Germany. We asked the Swedish government, they said no, not if she's never been employed in Sweden. So we wrote to the EU, as we understood under EU law she's entitled to claim maternity benefits somewhere, and they gave a "perspective" (but not a ruling) that Sweden should pay. We then did a very lengthy application in Sweden but it got denied anyway on the basis she's missing some type of "bosattningsbaserade" insurance, which we are not sure what that even is. We have gotten her into the system all the normal ways and everything is totally transparent and above board. Basically we are planning to appeal, but don't know what lies ahead, whether we will win any judgement at all, whether we need to escalate to the EU, whether the Swedish government will drag its feet and take 8 years to pay. Has anyone encountered a situation where a new mother is employed in country A but lives in country B, and how did they resolve that? [link] [comments] |
