I'm trying to help, they have 8 kids. She just suddenly collapsed during family time, heart stopped, breathing stopped. My brother performed CPR until medical arrived. They had to shock her a couple times to get her heart back online but the doctors say she's gone and only the machines are keeping her alive. And now the life insurance is playing games. Can anyone help me try to fix this for him?

    Thank you

I backed my car into a company car that was parked.

Anyways, it's been 7 whole days and we have not heard of any sort of claim made with their insurance. I'm really hoping this company will just take the loss and not make a claim so my rates don't go up for my insurance. What do y'all think?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 11:51 AM PDT

The Texas Department of Insurance has launched a new web series called "Insurance 101." In the premiere installment, we discuss roofs: why it's important not to wait to replace a weather damaged roof, the difference between Replacement Cost coverage and Actual Cash Value coverage, and red flags to look out for when choosing a roofing contractor.

Car insurance rate increased 50%. Is their explanation correct?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 02:28 PM PDT

I was told by my insurance company that the reason was because I filed a claim to fix damages caused by a hit and run driver. It was on video (no plate captured) and no one disputes that it was the other guys fault (passed on double yellow, he hit me as he cut back in). They agree I was the victim, but are saying that claim caused my rate increase. I asked "You agree I did nothing wrong; you agree I was hit; what I should have done differently to not have my rate increased?". They answered "Don't file a claim." Is this correct? (Massachusetts USA (in case its relevant))

Also told me if my house was hit by a hurricane or broken into and damaged, and that I then filed a claim with my homeowners insurance, they too would raise my rates. Is this true also?

Any recommendations on a new car insurance company?

Insurance keeps declining claimes for services provided to my daughter on the day she was born - I'm being sent to collections

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:10 AM PDT

Hello r/insurance, I've been dealing with my insurance and my daughter's providers for more than half a year now. For some reason my insurance keeps declining to pay for the services provided to my daughter on the day she was born. Yes, we both have insurance; we had insurance then, we have the same insurance now. Yes, her insurance has been backdated to start coverage from the day she was born. The insurance has paid for all the services provided to me on the same DoS, however they have flat out declined to pay for anyone who provided services to my daughter. The insurance is saying those should have been submitted under my name, but all of the pediatric services (our family pediatrician and a specialist hired by the hospital to be present in the OR), including the hospital have all submitted claimed in my daughter's name and none were paid. As a result, I have been sent to collections over a quiet a large sum of money. I previously have pristine credit score, and I'm taking a lot of damage now. The insurance company has started to suggest that I pay this money on my own to be taken out of collections and try to "work out the miscommunication" after. Insurance company has misdirected blame every step of the way so far and even as far as to tell us to "rest assured everything is taken care of" back in February. The hospital (but not the pediatric services) is also shifting a lot of blame here onto me (???), as well the insurance, understandably. I'm obviously being jerked around here but I just don't know what to do anymore. Help?

How can someone prove that he/she doesn't own his/her car anymore?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 05:07 PM PDT

My sister owned a car which was towed by the police and later auctioned off two years ago. But she forgot to cancel the insurance policy and the insurance was monthly PAP from my bank account. So for two years I have been paying her insurance for a car she didn't even own anymore (and yes the insurance was renewed as well). I only discovered this a few days ago and the insurance agent told me I need some proof that she stopped owning the vehicle since it was towed and I may be able to get some of my money back. I have no idea how I can find that information. Is there anyplace I can find the auction list/record? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Question about Cobra !

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 04:21 PM PDT

Officially ended on my previous employers group plan on June 1st (Kaiser PPO). I was fired earlier in the month and applied for an individual plan with Kaiser (Kaiser HMO). For some reason I didn't realize I had signed up for an HMO through my insurance agent. I haven't paid for my (HMO) premium yet and I now I just want to just use Cobra and my old group plan. Am I still eligible ?

Insurance is asking for my demands of personal injury on a auto claim.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 12:35 PM PDT

Hello. I was rear ended last summer in a fairly big accident (4 cars involved), they determined that the person in the back was at fault for all of the accident. I suffered from neck and back pain and stiffness and was out of work for a few days. I went to an urgent care the day of, then went to my chiropractor and was treated for roughly 2 months. I had no clue about the bills because my PIP coverage took care of it, but I called my insurance and they said the bills came to roughly $3,500. I don't really want to get an attorney because this is dragging on and I'm sure I'm not going to get much so I just want it to be over with, but I have no clue what to ask for or expect. I am in Oregon, any help is appreciated!

Cannot find a car to switch to that won't make my insurance skyrocket

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 03:19 PM PDT

This is extremely weird to me, I drive a 91 Toyota Supra - an old Japanese sports car. I got rod knock in the engine and want to switch cars but no matter what vehicle I find that I think of buying everything increase my insurance drastically!

For example today I found a 2004 Camry 4 cylinder that I was interested in buying, looked up my quote for switching to that vehicle and my rate would go up $700 dollars per 6 months, from the current $1,400! I only have liability so its not an increase in the cars value.

I've tried several other cars that I was looking at and everyone increases my rate by at least $400 for the current term.

Is it really possible that my Supra is super low risk statistically? Or is that just how switching cars with insurance works?

My family's house caught fire on the eve of my fiance buying our home, need advice on how to deal with insurance claim

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 02:13 PM PDT

I am in a tough predicament and i don't know who to go to for advice. Being a sole provider to my immediate family(Bro,Sis,Mom), i am the home owner and the current house's insurance title/policy is under my name (house A). Fast forward to earlier this year, my husband and I bought a new home (HouseB) while House A is still under my name. House B has both our names on the title.

On the eve of closing on the new home (HouseB) my first home tragically caught fire (HouseA). We opened a claim with the insurance company and my current policy on house A ends sometime in september. Because the policy states that i cant have insurance on two homes, i dont know if the insurance will give me problems with claim on house A. Legally i should be changing my address to our house B but because of the house A claim i am afraid to do so. Our second home is also insured with the same ins company and when we speak to insurance agents they are able to cross link but i always feel like we are walking on eggshells while speaking to them. P.S Because of my policy on houseA the insurance has situated my immediate family in a rental home for the time being and i dont know how long that will last.

    So my concerns are:

    1. Will the insurance company give me any problems with my claim on houseA?
    2. If my current ins policy for houseA is expiring in sept what if the house isnt rebuilt by then?
    3. Will they allow me to renew the policy on house A or do i have to find a way to sell/transfer ownership to someone (quitclaim deed)?

My fiance and I got hit with this out of nowhere and feel like we need some advice on how to approach talking to insurance company. Any advice is appreciated.

    Life Insurance - TX

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 01:44 PM PDT

A man was killed by a drunk driver and has a life insurance policy through his company. There is a chance he will test positive for THC (having consumed several weeks prior to the accident) and did not in any way contribute to the death. Can/will his family be denied payment on the policy? There is no copy of the policy available to review to see if there is anything regarding drug use.

How to deal with an insurance company way under-valuing a vehicle?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 12:29 PM PDT

I was rear-ended in my Ford Ranger. The other person's insurance accepted fault. She hit me hard enough to bend the frame and smack me into the person in front of me. Here's the rub, this truck is a single cab long bed, mint condition. Not used as a "work truck" but is the rubber floor basic model. Back in 2002 it took me months to find a decent long bed ranger, they surprisingly rare.

They offered me $800. Book value is ~$3600. There are three long bed rangers for sale in the entire country (autotrader, ebay), all are $4500+, all are in FAR worse condition than mine with higher miles.

I replied to them and said I totally disagree with the value and sent them the links to the other trucks. Now they're offering $2900 but admitted that their system doesn't account for it being a long bed. The long bed thing is a major difference in value on these. They said this is their "final offer", and that it took major management approval to get that, and that I am welcome to pursue other methods such as filing with my own insurance to make up the value.

It's an injury case also as she pushed me into another vehicle giving me whiplash. I don't have an attorney, yet, as I was advised to wait until my PT is over and see if I'm happy with what they offer me. Frankly I would prefer to not get an attorney involved. Is there any way to get them to increase value?

    Private Individual Health Insurance Plans

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 11:44 AM PDT

My wife and I need private / individual health insurance. For the past 8 years, we have been covered through my employer's plan, but the costs have now risen so severely that we can no longer afford the pay cut each week. We came off the insurance effective June 1st, 2018. At the time we dropped the insurance, we were paying around $250.00 a week for medical coverage.

When open enrollment starts again on November 1st, what kind of prices am I looking at?

And when I go to file my taxes in January, will I have to pay a fee for the six months that I didn't have any insurance? I am hearing conflicting information on that, and would like to know for sure. How much will the fine be, if any. Will it be brutal??

Car Stolen & Recovered! What next?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 10:45 AM PDT

    Hi all! Happy Friday!

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this so that I can get prepared for what's next. My car was stolen Memorial Day, almost two weeks ago. I do have comprehensive coverage and my deductible is only $50! Claim was filed the morning I realized the vehicle was stolen. I live in Dallas, Texas.

Yesterday, I was notified that my car was recovered. I picked it up, and it is trashed but running (I drove it back to my apartment from the impound). I'm unsure if insurance might consider this a total loss. The vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Corolla and had 111,000 before being stolen. I have been the only owner and it was purchased new (has been paid for for years).

Damage: It reeks of cigarette smoke, has over 2k more miles on it (made during a week and a half period), has a dent in the rear door about the length of my forearm. Large scrape on the front bumper. Tire pressure and maintenance required lights are now on (I'm assuming because of distance driven?) Interior is coated in cigarette ash and dirt, driver's seat (cloth) is coated in black dirt. Glove compartment is broken. Sun visor broken.

Does anyone have experience with claims like this? Does this sound more like a repair or a total loss?

    Thank you so much!

    Edited to include location!

Renovating new home before moving in, and my insurer is canceling my policy after just one month because the house is “vacant and under renovation.”

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 09:59 AM PDT

My wife and I closed on our first house at the end of April. We got homeowners insurance through the same company that covers my car, so I could bundle.

We knew the entire time that we weren't going to move in until about about two months after closing because we planned on renovating the kitchen and redoing the floors. I thought I had told the insurance provider this.

I got a call about a week ago from the underwriter asking about a certification that we had a security system installed an monitored. I told them that while there was a system in the house, we weren't planning on having it monitored until we moved in post-renovation. The person said okay, not a problem, and to expect a similar call in about a month.

A couple days after that phone call, I received a letter from the underwriter in the mail notifying me that my policy was being canceled effective 6/25 due to the home being "vacant and under renovation." We plan on being moved into the house by the middle of July.

I called the insurer, asking what this was all about. The person I spoke with said that they regrettably don't provide unoccupied dwelling insurance, and suggested I find a local provider. She said that after we move in, I should provide pictures of each room as proof that the building is no longer unoccupied and that the renovations are done. At that point, she said, we should be able to be reinstated.

I've gotten one quote thus far for unoccupied dwelling insurance, and the premium is over three times what I was paying for homeowners insurance. I have been told that if I go without insurance for a month, my lender will slap its own "policy" on the home, which is likely to be very expensive, but I honestly don't even know for sure that they've been notified of the situation.

Should I keep shopping for unoccupied dwelling insurance? Should I try to get regular homeowners insurance from another provider, and just keep quiet about the fact that I won't move in for another month? Should I just let the policy cancel without replacement until we move in? Is there another option I'm not seeing?

    Insurance Claims response time

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 06:12 AM PDT

    Hey all,

So, on Tuesday I was involved in a car accident. The other driver was most definitely at fault, he was coming off the interstate, and T-boned me as he pulled off the exit ramp. I was driving straight at about 35-40mph, and he was only going about 5-10mph, the damage was enough that I filed a claim with his insurance company. This will be the start of the 3rd day since I filed the claim on Tuesday morning, and I have to yet to hear anything back from the other driver's insurance. I can go on their website and it shows me that I do have an active claim, and an adjuster assigned to it but that is about the extent of it. I have called the adjuster's number several times and have sent an email as well trying to get information.

I have searched this insurance company up online (Greenville Casualty Insurance), and they have several really bad reviews when it comes to response times with claims, and dragging out settlements as well. So I admit, I might be jumping the gun, but reading all the negative reviews about this company has made me antsy, and I don't want to end up being 2 months down the road still without a vehicle because I'm dealing with a shady company. Thankfully my wife and I have a 2nd vehicle so we are still able to make things work, but it's definitely an inconvenience.

So the reason I am writing this post, I was curious to find out if there was any time frame I legally might have to wait before filing a claim with my own insurance (Geico) just to get everything back to normal. I talked shortly with them about my concerns and they said that if I did that they would just go after the other insurance company in order to get there money back, but I'm sure there is probably more to it than that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Somebody threatened to vandalize my car today and I have a question for all of you

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:21 AM PDT

So I was parking and somebody was trying to make an ilegal uturn to park in the same spot. I didn't see her until she started beeping and tried to cut me off from behind so I couldn't park. I finished parking while we screamed at me. And then she told me " you better watch your car asshole" so I took a picture of her license plate. My question is even though I have no proof if I come back to my car in the evening and it's been vandalized what can I do about it?
