    AAPL Debt/Equity and Buffet's rules

    Posted: 09 Jun 2018 01:33 AM PDT

    Hi,

I thought Buffet didn't buy companies when their Debt/Equity is > 0.5 yet AAPL last quarter Debt/Equity is 0.80 and Current Ratio around 1.8. My understanding from reading the books is that as long as one rule is violated, Buffet doesn't make a move. So what has changed for Apple? is Buffet changing his strategy?

    Thanks lads,

Do you have ever heard of the term Teledyne Return?

I recently have read a book called The Outsiders that you may know. and i have found interesting metric that is called Teledyne Return.

In another departure from conventional wisdom, Singleton eschewed reported earnings, the key metric on Wall Street at the time, running his company instead to optimize free cash flow.

He and his CFO, Jerry Jerome, devised a unique metric that they termed the Teledyne return, which by averaging cash flow and net income for each business unit, emphasized cash generation and became the basis for bonus compensation for all business unit general managers.

As he once told Financial World magazine, "If anyone wants to follow Teledyne, they should get used to the fact that our quarterly earnings will jiggle. Our accounting is set to maximize cash flow, not reported earnings."

So, It's basically the average of cash flow from operating activities and net income. my question is what exactly is the purpose of using it? to filter out a situation that managers manipulates to raise net income but operating cash flow goes down symmetrically? and additional question is would it be better choice to replace net income in a calculation of owner earnings with this metric? Thanks for reading!
