Anyone that owns HMNY adding to their position or is it the time to sell? I bought at $13 and now shares are less than $2. I don't want to take such a hit, so i'm more inclined to add to it but reports are that the company Moviepass will go bankrupt.

Is solar energy worth the investment?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 11:32 AM PDT

Hello all, so I've been doing some research on a company called First Solar and I really like their product and how its more environmentally friendly and more efficient than their competitors. The thing is, because of Trump's Solar Tariffs which are expected to gradually decrease for the next five years, it will make the pricing more competitively. This is because the CdTe solar modules that are produced by First Solar are not affected by the tariffs unlike the traditional crystalline silicon solar modules and the ending of the tariffs will allow their competitors to lower their prices. I guess what I'm asking is, can the company still present strong growth in the years after the tariffs? Customers pretty much will have to decide if the marginal cost for the marginal benefit (more efficient energy, more environmentally friendly) is worth the investment. What do you guys think?

Why do I see so many articles that say "Alibaba Vs Tencent"

Why does it have to be one or the other? Both seem to be good investments right now and for the foreseeable future. I currently hold both

Any ideas on why JNJ is down after a solid earnings report?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:05 AM PDT

JNJ has consistently been down even after earnings that were relatively solid. The only thing I can think of is perceived over reliance on pharma sales being a drag. The stock is approaching nearly -20% from all time highs.

    Thoughts?

What's your minimum investment amount for a stock or ETF purchase to justify/minimize the impact of the discount broker commission fee?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:20 AM PDT

I'm trying to balance regular investment into the market with avoiding having gains eaten up by fees. Obviously the larger the investment, the more diluted the $5.95 fee becomes. Just curious about the increments others use to invest in ETFs and Stocks to make the fees easier to swallow.

    BOTZ ETF

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:50 AM PDT

Can anyone help shed some light on BOTZ, and probably more importantly how the value of an ETF changes? I am new to stock trading (6 months) and have no interest in day trading or quick sells, I'm in it for the long run. BOTZ looked promising, but I unfortunately bought shares at it's peak ($27) and it has been holding around 23/24 for a few months now. Is anyone optimistic that it will rise? Should I just cut my losses and re-invest in something better? I don't agree with selling low but I suppose it's part of the game and you can't make a profit everytime!

    Tech stocks revenue growth, year-over-year

    Posted: 08 May 2018 01:17 PM PDT

    Graph of this issue: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dcnh5ADXkAAwwm4.jpg

    Revenue Growth, year-over-year... $FB: +49%, $AMZN: +43%, $NFLX: +40%, $GOOGL: +26%, $MSFT: +16%, $AAPL: +16%, S&P 500: +9.5%

Big technology stocks have soared in recent years as their rapid earnings and revenue growth made them must-have holdings in many investors' portfolios. Now, a new engine is likely to drive tech profits and stock prices in the coming years: ongoing streams of revenues from customer subscriptions, The Wall Street Journal reports. Software was the first area within the tech sector to change its preferred pricing model from one-time sales to recurring annual fees, the Journal notes. Today, the subscription pricing model has become pervasive throughout the sector, and companies that have embraced it include Apple Inc.

Do you think these trends will continue in the future?

    Jianpu Technology? $JT

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:43 AM PDT

I've been following Jianpu Tech for close to a year now and when I saw their results come out in March I was blown away. Total Revenue increased 414% from $17 million to $90 million. Gross Profit increased 449% from $14 million to $80 million.

All together the numbers were staggering and it's clearly growing fast. However, the stock has gotten pummeled since then and is down all the way to $5.50 a share. I'm not in the stock right now and glad I'm not considering how things have gone, but a company with numbers and growth this strong surely can't stay down forever. Anybody else watching this company closely?

What stocks are you holding right now, even though the short-term seems bleak?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 11:57 AM PDT

I saw some people were holding HMNY. I'm on the fence whether they can actually raise funds, considering they have so few and any investors may end up placing their bets on established players in the market (such as AMC) instead.

What other stocks are folks holding (other than wsb meme stocks) hoping for a long-term recovery or upside?

What has been your biggest gaining (10% or more) stock this year?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 09:48 PM PDT

Most of the market has been down or close to evening out for the year, so I'd like to hear of some stocks that have been good so far that some people might not know about.

I only have 2 stocks that are up over 10%. Amazon and the best being RMR Group. $RMR. Got into them late last year. Up over 30% this year. The majority of my other stocks are plus or minus a few percent.

Alibaba vs Amazon: Which one would you say is overvalued?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 11:39 AM PDT

I am a new investor and I appreciate and admire both of the companies mentioned above. Whenever I have brought up the topic that I would probably want to get a hold of Amazon/Google because I believe they have miles to go from here - people would warn that these are already overvalued and I should not enter at them now.

Looking at Alibaba soaring now, which figures/variables should I consider in order to determine if it is overvalued. For an example, PE/EPS/NAV or some other values and/or some other indicators that you as an experienced investor generally look at.

You can consider this request as a general checklist guideline for reading a stock and determine its worth for the current price.

When is the right time for an European to invest in US stocks?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 01:31 AM PDT

Sorry for the noob question, but I was discussion with a friend about investing in US stocks when the dollar is way lower than euro. He said it's better to buy when the dollar is strong. Who is right? I think it's better to buy with a low dollar and sell when is high.

Question is in the title, but with the deal being part cash and stock, what would this look like for someone like me who owns the ADR? Would I receive stock as well? Would the stock just appreciate to the optimal level and then stop trading? Any help is appreciated.
