LLC Question: Can you start an LLC and use that for multiple business ventures or do there need to be separate ones for the different types of businesses?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2018 01:02 PM PST

I'm a police officer and working side jobs as a police officer is a regular thing in my area. Mostly I'll work as paving security, shutting down streets with my police car, so that the paving crew can pave roads. I'm thinking about starting an LLC to collect my paychecks that way. Would would lower liability should anything happen on the job. My quesiton is if I start an LLC under those pretenses can I use it for other things? Say I take that money from paving and I buy lawn equipment to start mowing lawns to make money. Or can I get a business loan to buy gum ball machines and put them in bars. I'm just making stuff up but would that original LLC allow me to put my hand in different pots or would I need to have a separate business for each of those?

Looking for startup advice for a small export business

    Posted: 09 Mar 2018 08:26 AM PST

    Hello business redditors,

I am playing with the idea of starting a small export business for tea, specifically yerba mate, with the hopes of expanding it to other small local products, spices and textiles depending on where the market takes me. I do not have any experience in startup businesses. I've just started doing my online research, but I thought I'd throw my idea out here in case anyone has some advice for a newbie entrepreneur.

I am an American living abroad for 4+ years now, and I want to start an online store for shipping products internationally. Would I need to register my business in the USA since I am an American citizen? Are there any other options? I don't have citizenship elsewhere. Any advice from experienced importers/exporters who have run online shops? What problems have you run into? Your tips and insights would be appreciated!
