What is your bold/extreme prediction on a particular stock?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:48 AM PST

I'm going to begin cashing out of FB during the coming months.. I believe they will crash and burn in the next few years. Millenials are just not buying into the format. What's your bold prediction? And how are you acting on it?

    Let's Talk TTD

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:41 AM PST

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to bring to your attention The Trade Desk (TTD). I bought in at the IPO and they consistently have been uprooting the online advertising world. I cannot recommend this stock enough. I really believe this company is destined for amazing things. Hop on before it's too late.

    VSI Vitamin Shoppe

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:39 AM PST

I've read into it a little, it was quite high in early 2017 and has since been on the decline. I can't find if they did stock splits to intentionally drive price down, but I been reading it should be valued upwards of 13.5/share right now, currently trading under 4.00. Has it hit bottom and is it officially a buy low point? 4th quarter earnings to be announced Tuesday prior to opening.

    Some pe questions

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:27 PM PST

Just confused on some pe ratios. Like i was watching khc last week before earnings and the pe was 21ish. Now sites are listing it at 7.7ish this week. The ttm earnings on many sites list 8.95 for 2017 but when I add up earnings from their last 4 qtrs I get 3.55 . .90 .83 .98 .84. I have seen this before on stocks like TAP where there ttm not long ago was listing over $10 earnings per share. They have never made that much as far as I can tell. It's several sites so obviously I'm doing something wrong. How does khc go from 21 to 7 after a pretty so so earnings report and a few % drop in price? These are huge changes that earnings or price don't explain to me.

    PLNT up 9% after earnings

PLNT is up 9% after earnings hitting ATH. I do believe this is the future of gyms.

Does anyone know where I can find total memberships per gym?

    401k Investing

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 12:41 PM PST

Just signed up for 401k at my job, starting to do some research on investing, funds, etc. When I signed up I was placed in T.ROWE PRICE RETIREMENT 2055 TRRNX, it has 0.74% expense ratio. Would it be wise to switch my selection 100% over to something like FUSEX it has a 0.09% expense ratio and is doing well, has good companies, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook,Berkshire . Or if there's a wiser option, what would it be?

    $BAC vs $JPM

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 08:32 AM PST

Bank of America is a pretty popular holding. I would've thought Chase would be on top seeing how dominant it is. Is the competition more neck and neck than I thought? I'm looking to get into the financials sectors and was surprised at how $BAC is solid choice.

Is there a way to view a list of all stocks in an exchange (NYSE or NASDAQ) and sort them by current share price?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 11:50 AM PST

The only thing I have seen are lists by alphabetical order or by industry, but nothing by current price. Surely something like that must exist? It'd be helpful in finding low-cap companies for example.

Why doesnt Google search show chart anymore?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:14 AM PST

In the last 2 days I've noticed the Google search on my phone doesn't show the chart anymore. Just the current price and daily percentage change. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to change it? If it's a permanent change what is the quickest chart lookup on Android? I find the normal stock apps (Bloomberg, Yahoo, etc) take a lot longer than throwing a ticker in the quick search bar

    Thanks

Nektar Therapeutics ($NKT) Strapped to a Rocket?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 10:56 AM PST

    Hello /r/stocks!

I am interested to see what everyone's thoughts are regarding $NKT. They're up around 300% since substantially beating earnings in November. Curious to see what everyone's thought it regarding $NKT -- will it continue its assent or explode before plummeting back to Earth? As a disclaimer, I do have exposure to $NKT, but no direct position.

    Cheers,

    Shorting against the box?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 10:48 AM PST

Whenever I read about shorting a stock you already own, it is always in reference to the shorting against the box strategy that results in a zero sum outcome. You own x amount of shares and then you short x amount as well and this results in a neutral sum when you close out your position with the shares you already own. But can you short a stock that you already own but only close it out with your own shares if the price goes up then close it out by buying market shares if the price goes down?

How does Tesla possess a beta of 1.13?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:52 AM PST

My understanding of beta is 1.0 = Market Risk, where a 1.13 is simply saying it has as much risk as the market, perhaps a little more. This seems wildly inaccurate as Tesla has a huge amount of risks ahead. It's also a calculated figure. Can anyone explain this one to me?

    Capital Gains with No Job

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:18 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

If you hold a stock for more than 1 year, you pay 15% capital gains tax.

If you hold a stock for less than 1 year, you treat it as income and pay whatever income bracket you're in, usually about ~25%.

However, what happens when you don't have a job, thus have no income, thus you are not in a tax bracket? What % do you pay on short term gains?

Is ~0.5% average gains per day too high of a goal?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 10:38 AM PST

Greetings fellow gamblers; oops I mean investors. My question is short and simple. Is +/- .5% too high of a daily target?

I am a college student, I started seriously trading / investing in December. So far I have made pretty good gains both on my swing trades and on my long term picks. My question is, am I asking for too much with the daily target above?

I already know that some of you long term investors will tell me that I shouldn't be worrying about my day to day ups and downs but I am curious to hear the rebuttal.

    EDIT

I now see I am a true stock market fool, thank you for straightening me out. New goal is <

Have $30k to invest, what do you recommend?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:49 PM PST

Hello folks currently have about 30k that I could invest over the next 3 years. At that point I'll be buying a house and some other things and will probably want to sell. That being said, what's your recommendation on a moderate risk investment? I've considered index funds, but my risk level is a little higher than that. Thanks!
