Posted: 24 Feb 2018 07:18 PM PST Okay, I'll start off by saying I don't plan on doing this for another year or 2. I plan on saving up for about 2 years so I have at least a years living expenses plus at least $25,000 to trade with. I already spend hours every day reading and researching different stocks, how to read charts, etc but I want to get more organized with everything and thought I'd ask for any advice I could get here. To start getting serious, where should I start? [link] [comments] |
If flash crashes are just "malfunctions" Why do the markets always go down and never up 1000 pts? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:59 AM PST So I just thought about this today, when the Dow dropped 1000 plus points a couple weeks ago, and also in 2010, it was explained as a "malfunction" but isn't it funny how these "malfunctions" never have wild, 1000 pt swings upwards? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:59 AM PST With the Earning Report coming out this week I'm wondering if this is a good time to get in. Can the company really sustain the growth people are expecting? I like the concept and think cash will soon be close to extinct but want some more reassurance before I go heavy into $SQ. Definitely a long term hold btw. [link] [comments] |
Is a 540 period EMA on a minute chart the same as a 9 period EMA on an hourly chart? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:20 AM PST Only asking because I currently calculate EMA's using minute data and multiply my period by the scale I'm after (15, 30, 60 etc) and while the number is pretty close, it's only bang on for the actual minute charts. When I open an hourly chart etc it's only close to what I'm after. [link] [comments] |
Advice: Stock Expert to Follow Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:22 PM PST I'm new to this subreddit, and tried doing a little research but came up with nothing. What I'm interested in is finding a couple of experts to follow online (blogs, social media) for intermittent advice, sort of like what Stu Feiner is to the sports betting world. I'm interested in starting a discussion and learning about how users of this subreddit receive investment advice (ideally without having to pay for it). [link] [comments] |
Disadvantages of using 2 platforms? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 12:54 PM PST Hi all, new here and dipping my feet again into stock trading. I previously held some AAPL and others years ago when I was fresh out of college but sold all because I felt I was constantly losing money. Now that I am more financially sound I wanted to see if anyone here used 2 or more platforms for trading. Currently I have an employer sponsored 401k through Fidelity and just opened a brokerage account for long term (20+ years) stock holds (Disney, Union Pacific, etc). I also have a r-hood account for short term and low cost stocks to buy and trade for the next few years. Primarily I'm doing this so I can buy some shares with no commission when I can't buy a lot of shares at once or I'm not willing to risk a lot of money. Does anyone do anything similar or see any disadvantages of my plan that I don't? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:42 AM PST We are looking for the next Boeing to add to our LONG term portfolio. So let's use our collective wisdom to narrow down a few companies to invest in for the LONG term (over a year). I must have investors block becaue I can't really come up with anything right now. Will research more over the weekend. RC [link] [comments] |
Indicators to confirm breakouts? Posted: 24 Feb 2018 08:04 PM PST By indicators I mean like how you can confirm a pullback by seeing if RSI is overextended or about cross. Do you guys use any indicators other than a candle pattern or volume to confirm a breakout? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:53 AM PST Bank of New Mellon has two symbols. Don't understand what BK-C is. The stock doesn't move but gives out a good dividend. [link] [comments] |
Study: when will rising rates start to hurt stocks? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:11 AM PST Rising rates tend to hurt stocks when the 10 year yield hits 4.5-5%. So rates can go a lot higher without causing a bear market in stocks http://bullmarkets.co/study-when-will-rising-interest-rates-hurt-stocks/ [link] [comments] |
$SNAP is going to beat next earnings. Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:34 AM PST It finally dawned on me how they expect to make more money with the new update. Stories and direct snaps from friends are all jumbled into one section. As a result, it's a pain in the ass to scroll down and find people's stories. I still want to view other people's stories tho, mostly because I'm a nosy bastard and I like seeing who is fucking who and I like watching those embarrassing drunken videos before they get deleted at around 11am. Tellingly, the stories I put up are still getting the same amount of views that they were before the update. It seems like most people are done complaining about the new update and have just accepted it. Even my 40-something-year-old work colleague who nearly cried about the new layout is back to sending snaps, uploading stories and viewing stories. When you finish looking at a friend's story, an option pops up to view the next person's story. I always click on this option because I can't be arsed trying to scroll down and manually find it. Between stories, I am being shown advertisements. This didn't happen as much on the last version, as I was able to easily select whose story I wanted to view. As a result, I am viewing WAY more of those "transitional ads" than I used to. [link] [comments] |
Netflix- bad or good buy right now? Posted: 24 Feb 2018 08:53 PM PST Everything in the title. With the net neutrality ordeal still hanging over our heads to probably be settled by the end of March, is netflix a good stock to buy right now, or is it worth waiting until afterward, or is it even going to be worth it at all? What are the projections? Any input would be fantastic. I'm a novice teen holder. [link] [comments] |
