About 2 years into SaaS sales, really feeling burnt out. My numbers have been good, hit 150% quota as SDR in 2017, took on a couple clients and now function partway between sdr/ae, but I'm just bored, getting the feeling of "I spend my day calling and emailing people that don't want to talk to me; I haven't learned anything interesting and I'm not making a positive impact on the world"

I'm young, so I know I'm not "locked into" sales as a career, but I'm having trouble identifying which types of roles people move to from sales.

I've began some basic web dev courses, speak 3 languages, not scared of analysis or numbers... Just lacking a bit of creativity to see some future next steps

EDIT: Thanks for all of the input everyone - definitely good advice, and good ideas. I'm glad I posted, it's helpful seeing different perspectives!

Grey areas in Distributor Medical Sales Question - We have multiple reps who cover a city and our clients (doctors) move arround within our local territory. How do you handle this? What are the golden rules?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:35 PM PST

    Examples:

Rep A covers a doctor at the university hospital in town. That doc moves out into local territory. He falls into a Practice listed on another reps Bs territory list.

Does rep A still get to cover him bc of relationship?

    Example 2:

Doctors group breaks up in town bc their board meetings were like the WWF. All docs go scrambling into other local reps territory. Who covers old rep or new rep?

My territory is listed as hospitals doctor and clinics groups in no logical fashion to help things out.

I Welcome other examples of grey areas!

Advice on specific function of CRM or Mail Merge. Unique problem.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:26 PM PST

    Hi there

I am trying to solve a crm/mail merge issue that our company has.

Will send out about 2000 emails a day but frequently one letter needs changed from email to email and only a human can change that letter.

    That's the connundrum.

So the solution is a mail merge/CRM kind of software that will get the email address, subject and the text of the mail merge with all the unique fields filled in but then have it just sitting there waiting in GMAIL drafts ready to be sent.

Or even better, when you hit send just bring up the next email ready to hit send on.

That way we can change that one letter and hit send. scan the next one, change the letter, hit send and so on.

Will not be as fast as bulk mail, but will 10x our speed.

    Anyone?

Is there a tool I can use to 'map' my door-to-door drop by's?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:34 AM PST

Got a whole stack of brand new company flyers. Looking to go door to door to sell B2B IT services.

Is there an app out there that I can use to plot the places I've visited on a map, akin to the 'map on the wall with pins in it' kind of thing?

    Sales Books Recommendations

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 11:46 AM PST

Does anybody have any good recommendations for sales books? I don't mean the obvious ones like Zig Ziglar which are primarily self help books. I'm talking anything that has a narrative and humorous element to it. I just finished reading "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman" and I would like to read more books that similarly cover one man's journey/experience while also being funny.

Any help would be great as I have no idea how to describe what I'm looking for on Google.

    Hi guys,

This will be my first possible role at selling major accounts in a much larger territory. What are some effective approaches and strategies when it comes to selling to much larger accounts from 100 to 5000 employees? What are some questions to ask my interviewer? Anything helps!

    Thanks again, Ryan

Currently in the staffing industry, looking to make a move in about 6 months. I have a degree, looking for advice from someone who would know what an expected compensation package would be in Chicago for an SaaS SDR?

Also, has anyone transitioned from the staffing industry to tech? How did it go?

Commission structure and closing percentages for different markets

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 04:10 AM PST

Just out of curiosity trying to see what the different markets/customer direct-business clients, are doing. What kind of commission structure do you have? What's your total end of year? Closing %'s and are you self generating leads or company booked/pre qualified customers? Do you feel your time invested and your income reflects each other? And lastly, if the company gave numbers on sales/commission was it accurate?

A door to door magazine sales guy who didn't what to sale me anything?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:32 PM PST

What is going on? I looked up the company it was one of those magazine door to door things but the guy just wanted me to write he was professional and courteous.... I said okay, sure. Made up a name and five star review whatever.. (Then he tried to come into my garage like opening an unlocked side door as I went to lock it, because he wanted to use the bathroom.. I said that is not okay, he backed out I locked door and I called the cops).. I was also home alone with two toddlers. But I have a neighbor who shares a yard with us and a bunch of retired old people who live on my street who were actually standing outside of their houses sorting their recycling bin for example. . And five million dog walkers passing by .... I.cant find any subreddit about direct magazine sales to ask if this is normal practice on.

Calling Sales Managers when Applying for jobs.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:28 PM PST

Calling the Decision maker and talking to them is as important for getting a sales job as it is for getting a sale from what I've read a dozen different places giving advice on how to get hired. What I'm less clear on is how the conversation should go.

Should I try and do a phone interview right there and then?

Should I be making an effort to come off casual and just curious about the job?

Will I stand out simply by calling or do lots of other candidates do that as well?

Sales managers on here I'd love to hear from you especially. The last few people you hired, what did they do to stand out?

My line of work is in home sales. Three years ago, one of my salespeople gave us the name of a contact from where she used to work. We are beginning a partnership with that company this week. Salesperson wants a cut.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:11 AM PST

To be clear, she gave a name. She didn't set up any meetings, nor did she introduce anyone. She let us know who to call, and say, "I got your name from_____." We first contacted this company three years ago. Nothing happened for two, then once that company was sold, the new owners asked to revisit it. It will be a huge lead source for us. It could be very lucrative. The woman who first suggested it, has asked several times if she's going to get anything for the introduction. I can't see a reason to give her anything. She gave a name that, quite honestly, is public knowledge. That person has not reached out to her to thank her. Basically, she thinks she is owed something for the idea. What are your thoughts?

Interview with Comcast as a retail store sales consultant. Need tips on the sell me this (blank)”?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:04 AM PST

I'm torn between is it going to be a cell phone, remote control, new internet service they offer or as simple as "sell me this stapler." I used to sell appliances and would like some interview tips for this portion of their "Behavior" interview which uses the STAR method. Situation, Task, Action, Result. Any Comcast or telecom workers have any advice?

Need some help getting into medical/healthcare sales!

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:41 PM PST

Hey guys, I am a senior in college with a major in communication, emphasizing on PR, with a minor in marketing and entrepreneurship. I'll be graduating in May and hoping to find a job in sales. I know that I'd like to work with medical equipment since the medical field has always been interesting to me, and I know that the stuff I'd be selling would be helping people. The only sales experience i have is selling ad space for a very very small newspaper in the town my school is in. The town only has about 2500 people, if that puts into perspective how small scale this was. Do you guys know any companies in the medical field that have a great training program who would hire a college grad with little to no experience, or have any advice on where to start?

Looking for feedback on a SaaS Idea

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:35 PM PST

    To start with a question...

How effective is your current CRM call workflow?

I'm looking for feedback on the idea behind a sales CRM product I'm building that is focused on addressing this question.

Some of the features included in addition to basic CRM functionality:

    Call Transferring

Being able to transfer your call to someone else in your office is a basic feature that a lot of CRMs lack actually.

    Pre-recorded voicemail drop

Record a standard voicemail to leave for customers that don't answer so that you can hang up and continue on to the next call.

    Sales Coaching

Allows for sales managers to join in on calls without the customer being able to hear them.

Any blunt feedback that you could help me learn more about would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    How important are data lists?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:03 PM PST

Hey guys long time lurker here with my first ever post, I was just wondering how dependant are appointment setters/sales people to data/call lists?

I do appointment setting, prospecting for new clients for closers and currently we are on our fourth round of calling non answers and half assed call backs from a single calling list.

My team and I are struggling to book appointments and some are complaining about the data saying that it's terrible and almost impossible to book appointments especially since we've been calling the same numbers for the fourth time.

When the subject gets brought up to our sales manager he says that he does not believe in "good" data and that all data is the same to him and it depends on the salesperson to book appointments.

Fellow appointment setters and sales people. How true is that statement? Are we (sales team) just having a bad time? or is good data a necessity to book appointments?
