My brother and I both have leased 2017 Civics on the same Progressive insurance policy and I backed into his in the driveway. There's no damage to mine, but his front bumper is cracked.

Do I treat this like any other accident claim? Contact the dealership? Typically I prefer not to get into accidents, so I'm out of my element here.

Advice for an accident a year and a half ago

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 09:33 PM PST

So I got into an accident about a year and a half ago where I rear ended a bigger truck and I was at fault. My cars front end got replaced (not through insurance, bought the parts from a write off lot) and his back bumper had a VERY small dent. He explained he didn't want to go through insurance as to not harm my monthly payments on my insurance as they would skyrocket, so I would pay him a sum of money to fix the bumper. He took my info, I took his, and I texted him about it 2-3 days after. He never answered and never tried to get in contact with me after at all, until today. I get a message from a girl who is asking If i have recalled a situation where a car (mine) hit a truck (his). I didn't reply and have been advised not to. Wondering if there is anything they can actually do at this point since it's been so long. Located in British Columbia, Canana for clarity.

    [CA][Vehicle]Refunds on Unused Policy

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 08:53 PM PST

    Hi there.

I had an insurance policy on a vehicle over a year ago in California and was involved in an accident in which my car was totaled. I didn't purchase a new vehicle until a few months later, when I purchased a new policy. Recently though, I found out that I continued to pay the premium for the old policy for the months between car purchases.

I contacted the insurance agency and they agreed to refund me the vehicular liability portion of the policy during those months, but are not refunding the personal liability portion. They also stated that are "only legally obligated to refund half" and that they are doing me a favor by refunding me the full vehicular liability portion.

The "doing me a favor" part raised a red flag but I wasn't able to find any legal guidance online. Has anybody been in a similar situation or have any experience with insurance overpayments? I feel like I should be refunded the full amount of the policy given that they weren't actually insuring me for anything.

    Thanks in advance!

Question about car insurance for new driver [Maryland]

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 08:19 PM PST

Hello, Just a quick question, my family is saying insurance will be higher if we buy a newer model car (as in year), but I have read online that insurance gets cheaper when buying the latest modeled cars, because of all the safety features included in the vehicle already. We have been looking at a used 2016 Civic for $10k vs a 2012 civic for $7k

What other jobs might I qualify for?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 08:13 PM PST

I am a liability claims adjuster who works for one Statefarm, AAA, or Farmers Insurance. In essence, I work for a well performing insurance company. I am thinking of transferring jobs and I am wondering what else I may qualify for. I have handled complex injury and liability cases involving attorneys and such. I also have majors in math and computer science if that helps.

I am interested in jobs within or outside of the field. Preferably one that minimizes my personal contact with customers. Any ideas or suggestions?

Parked car hit, insurance claim show wrong car [statefarm] [Louisiana]

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 07:57 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

My fiancé and I each have a car, and I am listed as the primary owner on both. His car is a 2014 insight, and mine is a 2015 Honda Fit. Any mail regarding his car such as red light camera tickets have always been addressed to me solely. This has never caused a problem until now. Both cars are parked on the street in front of our house.

Recently, we returned from a weekend away and discovered that his car had been hit, causing significant damage to the driver side door and front bumper. There was no note left, and his insurance stated that they wouldn't cover the repairs. We chalked it up to a hit and run, and figured we'd have to eat the cost.

However, I got a letter today from State Farm, stating that my car was involved in an accident with one of their insured on a date around when we assumed the accident occurred. I thought they were talking about his car, and got super excited that we wouldn't have to pay for repairs after all. But when I logged on to check the claim info, I am listed as the claimant, but it has the 2015 Honda Fit listed, when the 2014 insight is the car that was actually hit. I called State Farm, but they weren't able to give me any information and said they would assign a claims specialist to look into it.

Do any of you have an idea of how this could happen or what's going on? I got my hopes up that we wouldn't have to pay for repairs after all, but now I'm just stressed out.

I hope that was clear! I'm feeling super confused myself.

TLDR: I have 2 cars in my name, and one was hit while parked. I received a letter from State Farm stating that i was involved in an accident with one of their insured, but the wrong car is listed in the claim.

Auto, WA state. Insurance company is trying to total my car.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 07:13 PM PST

My car was rear ended in a parking lot. We exchanged insurance information.

I filed a claim through their insurance and got a quote to have my vehicle repaired. They called me today and are only offering me two options: they pay me out and I forfeit the car. Or. They pay me a slightly lesser amount but I keep the car and get a salvage title.

What I'd like is for them to actually fix my car, At the place I got the quote from and put me into a rental. The quote to fix the car was actually less than the amount of money they're offering in each situation.

Is this completely unreasonable to ask of them or to expect of them?

    Auto Insurance Help!

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 10:54 AM PST

Alright so i was woke up by the police at 2:30am on Feb 7th. Some drunk guy hit my parked vehicle and totaled both our vehicles. The police report shows that he was drunk and that he hit my parked car. So i am trying to get a rental vehcile from his insurance company but they are refusing even though the police report shows that he hit my PARKED vehicle while intoxicated and fled the scene on foot. They are saying that they have to wait to talk to the person that hit my vehicle so they can investigate and claim responsibility for the accident. Obviously the person is dodging his insurance company becuase he was drunk. What can i do to speed this up?

Claim submitted without consent. Money is gone now.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 11:06 AM PST

Long story short, my company has 2 different benefit companies. Company A will cover the basic stuff, while company B will cover what we call the "Additional health care spending account"

My Additional Health Care Spending Account has 500$ every year.

The Company A, has a budget of 400$ for orthopedics ever 3 years.

My issue is, I was asking my benifit lady at work how to make claims, and she says, give me the claim, and I am like, I do not know how to make the claim. And she was like give me the claim, So i emailed her the entire paper work.

2 days later I get 500$ in my bank account and I find out that she used my additional health care spending account instead of my orthopedics budget.

I didn't ask her to make the claim, she just did it without me asking.

I want that 500$ back into my additional health care spending acocunt so that I can buy new glasses.

She says that there is nothing we can do.

She screwed up, and I am out 500$ towards glasses and dental bills until may 1st.

    what do i do?

(CA) Car was totaled - insurer paying more than what I owe

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 01:18 PM PST

Title says it all. I live in the great state of California and I'm insured through GEICO. My car was deemed a total-loss but I'm not freaking out since I was suckered(?) into purchasing the Gap insurance through my dealer.

Anywhoo, the dollar amount my insurer is paying is significantly more than what I owe on the vehicle.

What happens in this scenario? Will my insurer contact my finance bank and solely pay off my loan or can I expect the difference back (would make for a great down payment).

    Thanks again!

Can I dispute a medical payout?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 01:09 PM PST

    Hello,

I was in a car accident last May, I drive a manual and was completely stopped at a downhill four-way stop. Apparently, while I was checking google maps, my car rolled forward, or I eased my foot off of the break (which is much more likely) and rolled forward into the stopped car in front of me. I was 100% at fault.

Here's my problem, when the driver in front of me got out of her car and looked at the minimal damage she said, "I don't want to file a claim, but my niece says she has a headache". Guys, it was a gentle roll, I kissed it! The only damage done to her car was a small 5 CM hole in her rear bumper and my license plate was bent forward. That's it. Since it was such a small accident I didn't call the police, and I didn't take any pictures of the damage done to her vehicle, I can only assume I was still shaken up/full of adrenaline and not thinking clearly.

When my claim was completed I looked at the payout details and was absolutely shocked. The payout for her bumper was $593, totally understandable, but then I see two medical payouts to the two passengers in her car for bodily coverage totaling $4764. Wtf?! The damage done to her vehicle in relation to the 2 passengers' bodily injury payout is absolutely ludicrous. I called my claims rep and he was absolutely no help. He couldn't answer any of my questions and transferred me to multiple departments, I was literally on the phone for an hour and a half and got nowhere.

Due to the payout, my insurance has increased substantially and costs me more monthly than my car payment! I absolutely accept fault for this accident, and I knew that my premium would increase, but I literally can not afford to drive my car anymore. What are my options here, if any? Am I able to have my claim re-investigated?

Ticket in company vehicle for a small company?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST

Hello, my story is I got pulled over not too long ago driving like 20mph over the speed limit in a company vehicle. It is a small company with <10 drivers which is insured through a local State Farm office. The cop was nice and gave me the lowest ticket for 1-5mph over...I already sent the check myself to pay but I just started this job and want to make a good impression. Will my employer inevitably find out soon since they are so small or do I have time for it to get off the insurance radar?

Some more background: this happened in WA state, I do not have or need a CDL for the job and have not had a traffic ticket before in this state or within the last 5 or so years.

    Geico customer service..

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 02:19 PM PST

Backstory with Geico: I just settled a car insurance claim for my father in january. They we're trying to call my father at the beginning of the claim process to get his side of the story but he didn't speak English. He tried to get a Spanish representative to callback but they would always callback in english. From there on I "made" the claim for him. I was asked for my telephone number among other things and I was also "listed" as a claimee. From there on they agreed they were at fault and we're trying to get him to go to a shop to have the vehicle inspected. Call after call they would always call him even though I requested like 5 times to contact me directly and told them like 10 times that if they were going to call him to get a Spanish speaking representative. I always had to call back and settle things on my own. Near the end of the claim we had to schedule a time for the vehicle to be inspected. The inspection times were all listed as 8-12pm m-f. Naturally none of these times worked for him as he and the whole world works during these hours. Finally at the end we had scheduled an adjustor come to our house on a Monday. Monday came and no show. Tuesday I called back and rescheduled. Even though we were told he was available 8am onwards he never answered the phone when I called him it would just ring indefinetley, not even a voicemail. After this he proceeded to write out a check and the claim was settled.

Fast forward two weeks and now another Geico insured driver hit me. He claimed I hit him even though he backed onto me. He wasn't claimeing any damages to his vehicle at the time we exchanged information. His trailer hit my vehicle. This totally felt like an insurance scam and sure enough as soon as I go home as I'm getting ready to file a claim with Geico they tell me one has already been started by the other driver. Thankfully I have a dash cam. I submitted my video and he was proved 💯% at fault. Now I'm going to go through another claim process with Geico. Sure enough they're problably going to expect me to go to the adjustor that's only open 8am-12pm.This won't work for me either.

I'm just surprised by the fact that Geico couldnt find one Spanish representative to contact my father. I'm surprised that they asked me to basically handle my father's claim because he only spoke Spanish. I asked to be a translator only but they said they basically want to get over with and to do that I'd have to handle the claim directly. Then they proceed to continue to contact my father and not once contact me.

Does a normal claim process require me to take time off work so I can speak to an adjustor? I had another claim settled for myself by Allstate and it literally took 2 days to get settled. My experience with Geico has been pretty bad and now I'm going to have to deal with them again.

(California) Purchased a car a month ago without gap, and got in a car accident and am upside down by alot.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 10:13 AM PST

The front bumper and passenger quarter panel are destroyed. There is a slight dent in the hood, and passenger front door, and a scratch along both passenger doors, and rear passenger quarter pannel.

The repair estimation at a shop was over $8,000. Am i allowed to get a new estimation with just the repair od the quarter panel and bumper?

Also, my insurance said the check for the value of the car minus deductable would go straight to my lender. And they also said the lender can take the car back. Is there anyway i can keep the car? I believe i can repair the car for a lot cheaper after looking at the necessary parts online.

    Thank you

    Auto Insurance Question

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 07:07 AM PST

I'm 26F/Single/2010 Toyota Corolla and located in GA, haven't had an accident since 2013 (not at fault). I am looking for car insurance and found a liberty mutual agent. She help me look for a quote and found that Progressive to be the cheapest, but cheapest is not so cheap when my car is 8 years old. The quote she gave me is $111/month with liability only 50k/100k/50k and that's minimum.

I've looked almost everywhere online and I can't find a reasonable price quote from other insurance companies. I am not sure if this is the best, so I am wondering if this is pretty much average price as to what I can get. Just needed someone else's opinion. Thanks.

Sales representative job with Liberty Mutual

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 06:23 AM PST

Hi r/insurance! I was hoping someone could give me some insight on a possible career with Liberty Mutual. I currently work in technology sales with a corporate wireless company. I've been doing this now for about 8 years and to be honest I'm tired of working in stores and dealing with direct micro management 24/7. I love sales and I've done it now for 11 years since I was in high school.

I've been looking to branch out into a new field and the Liberty Mutual job caught my eye. I know insurance is tough with a lot of cold calling and other things, but what is it really like? How is the 'salary' with a company like Liberty Mutual? Also, are the benefits good? I have a wife who requires expensive medication due to a chronic illness. I have my phone interview in 2 hours so hopefully I can get some of these answers from either you guys or the recruiter. Thanks in advance!

    Insurance Company Denying Claims

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 05:59 AM PST

I should start by mentioning I live in China and my insurance company, MSH China, is also based here. So the details may be different but I was hoping to be able to get some general advice.

My coverage began on 08/01/2017 and on 10/25/2017 I started seeing several doctors about lower back pain I was experiencing. After one appointment, I found out that my insurance had classified my lower back pain as a preexisting condition and was refusing to cover anything, leaving me a large amount in bills to pay.

When I inquired about what had happened, the insurance company told me that in one of the doctor's reports, the doctor had reported I had been experiencing symptoms for "more than half a year."

I never said this to the doctor, nor would I have any reason to. The doctor I went to see was Chinese, and although I was at an expat hospital and she did speak some English, I felt the entire time that we didn't really understand each other well due to a language barrier.

I explained this to my account manager at my insurance company, who told me that if I saw the doctor and asked her to write a clarification, that the insurance company would reverse their decision.

So I did just that, explained to my doctor that there had been a mix up and clarified my symptoms. The doctor wrote another report, and I just found out today that the insurance company has refused to change their decision. The exact wording that I received from my insurance was "The medical team didn't see any reason to modify the medical record, and [Hospital Name] modified the medical record many times in the past, so they suspect the honesty of the hospital and they also didn't accept any of my explanations for this suspect."

I'm not sure what they are referring to by saying my hospital has altered my medical record in the past, and I'm also shocked that the medical team doubting the honesty of the hospital could be a reason for denying a change based on a mistake the hospital made??

The entire thing feels absurd. I'm having a call with someone at the medical team of the insurance company tomorrow to try to resolve this, but wanted some advice on how I could approach the situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to find affordable health insurance as an expat

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 04:06 AM PST

    Hello Reddit!

I am a 26 year old British male expat. I've been living in Vietnam for the last year, but will move within the year - most likely to another country in Asia, but I'd like to leave my options open.

I am looking for an affordable insurance plan that will cover me annually. As part of this I would prefer avoiding policies that limit the lengths of trips. Although I may return home once or twice a year I don't want to be forced to do so.

Ideally, aside from the obvious (medical emergencies, theft, travel delays and issues), I'd like to be covered for general medical expenses such as exercise related injuries.

My last annual cover was with World Nomads and cost over £450 (incl. USA and South America). Is it a dream to get anything cheaper than this price range?

Thank you so much and please fire any further questions my way.

8000$pip deductibles should be illegal And policy or changes should always be recorded and held in definitely through phone record

    Posted: 08 Feb 2018 08:38 AM PST

A policy does not have backdating in proof regarding associates involved in arranging policy for that person on that day or phone call records. And if there is a backdate record of that content it was done at random and is not garanteed stored information upon request incase of discrepencies. I know this for a FACT with the mess im in with geico right now snd have a lawyer because of it. Geico needs to have that are hiring policies for their agents who are responsible for creating policies over the phone for new clients. When I first got my Geico policy with an agent over the phone with Geico I had explained that I wanted the lowest coverage needed when the associate asked me about $8000 pip deductible. I asked her what that was exactly when the associate explained to me that it's for coverage of medical bills and lost wages in case of a car accident. I Asked her if I would still be covered if I was not at fault if someone hit me she said yes insinuating that the deductible would not apply if someone else was at fault.Because of this false information that was given and the fact that I consider myself an excellent driver and am listed as such never been in an accident before. I Was low on money at the time and because of the circumstances I decided to except her offer for a lower premium by excepting the policy that she was suggesting . A couple of years later someone hit me from behind on the highway and i have no coverage because of this pip deductible of 8000 which i never would have agreed to if i knew that i would not be covered and the deductible would still affect me even if it was someone elses fault. The driver hit me as i was going the speedlimit of 65 and he was going 80 I pulled over got his information I had an instantaneous lump on my head was scared and wanted to get to the hospital right away because I never been in a car accident before I didn't quite know what to do and panicked so I just drove straight to the hospital I was out of work for two months with extreme neck pain but I still deal with right now which causes severe headaches that I never had before. I have a subluxation and my spine that the chiropractor saw in the x-ray for the doctor at the hospital failed to do so and have contradictory findings from standardized test in the hospital and don't always show the consequences of a Trumatic brain injury at least not right away I have to pay out-of-pocket expenses for anything outside of the mainstream for treatment I'm still trying to just catch up on bills because of all of this and my lawyer is telling me that there's not much I can do because of the $8000 deductible that Geico talked me into doing with Misinformed information that they gave. I take responsibility for not understanding every detail of car insurance my policy and how those policies would be affected in certain circumstances even though I reached for clarification through the agent responsible for setting up my policy at that time I now know that you have to be your own advocate in every single detail in life the fine print they call it. Because even an agent who specializes in these policies didn't have the right information resulting in this unfortunate setback that I am dealing with so from now on I suggest all of you too crosscheck quadruple crosscheck and continuously crosscheck your policies the implications of them and what they mean even if you were told otherwise my lawyer did tell me that he has seen quite a few cases in which the situation has happened and or a policyholder Got full coverage On their new expensive car and in a car accident come to find somehow their policy was changed or miss handled by a representative in the initial set up.And like my situation have no proof of the agent being at fault
