The undeniable #1 strongest tool in sales Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:47 AM PST I just got out of a little sales pow wow with my team and we talked about the #1 strongest tool in sales. The answer = Silence Silence is a tool that closes. Silence has closed seven figure deals for me. We as sales people need to appreciate silence for what it is. We need to learn to just stop, listen, and if in person stare. Because it's natural human psychology to break the silence, it is just too awkward, but the rule is, first one to talk loses. Play the game, close the deal. [link] [comments] |
Starting an inside sales position soon. Looking for online courses/resources. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:57 AM PST I was given the job because I have past experience in customer support, and my previous job was in the same field as this company's. But I have no sales experience. There will be training, but I want to get a head start. Could you please recommend me some good online sales courses? edit: it's SaaS if it makes any difference. [link] [comments] |
Best way to find print/scanning clients in a large city. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:19 AM PST Hello all, I'm mainly production, but with my new job, I'm expected to print in 50 to 60k a month in sales, right now, I'm only at 15K total for January and the ownership is getting pretty angry with me. What would be a good way to find potential clients that want commercial blueprints printed or scanned? [link] [comments] |
Make the switch from Operations to Sales in the Mortgage Industry Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:06 AM PST Hi sales masters. Like the title says i'm actively making the switch to be an MLO from a production job also in the mortgage industry. I've had the very unique opportunity to be moved through a bunch of roles in a short period of time. I've worked in submissions, processing and closing, spending a large portion of time doing cross training between departments and have really enjoyed if but am looking for a new challenge. I'm currently in wholesale lending for a medium sized lender and have been in the industry for just 2 years (i'm 26). One of my closest mentors is VP of operations at my current company and he's helping me get set up at another place with an old coworker of his that he thinks will be a great mentor to me. The company I'm currently at has very little presence in the retail channel in my area is what's causing the swap of companies. I've very little worry about the volume of business I have as I'm well connected to many realtors in the area (long time family friends and mother in law are realtors), however I'm scared of the first few months while getting everything all set up. Any LO's or sales people in general what advise to you have for someone making the switch to sales over the first few month? I meet with the new company on monday and i'm trying to just get a jump on what all might go down. For a new loan officer how common is it to get a salary against commission for like a few month. I know that in wholesale our sales people typically get 6 months of salary against commission and am just trying to gauge what to expect. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:01 AM PST I recently started as a salesman for an electronic component broker. Our job is to contact purchasing departments at large companies like Boeing or Sony and attempt to sell them on critical/urgent parts. We are not positioned to replace factory/franchise distributors, but rather act as brokers for urgent spot buys of scarce parts. So a lot of it is catching the right buyer at the right time. Anyway, I am not having much success. Most of the time the buyer does not pick up the phone, even if I call multiple times throughout the day. So I have started sending a cold email to my contacts that do not pick up. I am not getting any responses though, so maybe some critique is in order. Here is my cold email template: "Hi Bob, I was hoping to get in touch to discuss becoming a supplier for your company. We are a global distributor of electrical components, opticals, and peripherals, and have been in business for over XX years. I specialize in helping procurement departments obtain hard-to-finds, critical, and end of life purchases. We have a global network and can obtain almost any material/commodity. I was hoping to set up a time this week or next to see if there is any opportunity for us to do business. If this is agreeable, please let me know what time works best for you. I am attaching my line card for your review. Thanks, Signature Thoughts on this? I know it is very generic and not really offering any value to my prospect. What can I do to improve this messaging, or improve my contact rate with buyers at large companies? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Dropping the geology focused career, and getting into sales. Life insurance. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 12:48 AM PST All I read online about selling life insurance is very negative. Pretty much saying the bottom line is, don't get into it. Coming from general labor, construction, oil rig experience with no experience at all in sales. Am I biting off too much, and setting my self up to fail? I'm tired of the industry, and really need a career change. I love the fact that it's an independent gig. Put In what you get out deal. Un-capped commission, they will start you out on a weekly draw to get you going. I guess I'm just worried about being 3-5 months in and still not producing. I'm 26, and I see the potential of it. But how rare is it that you actually turn into one of these big whigs making 150+ that is hiring you? Also, it's a business 2 business deal with 20-25 minute presentations (I'm god awful at public speaking) along with cold calling. Any advice about the career switch? Maybe I shouldn't choose insurance and try a different sales? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:19 AM PST Instead of sending a second or third personalized email, I was thinking of printing it and handwriting their name and address on the envelope. Anyone have any luck with this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jan 2018 03:56 PM PST Hi! My name is Anthony and I currently just took a job selling DirecTV in Walmart. This kind of job is completely new to me, but I do have experience in retail with Best Buy. I have been doing it for 4 days so far and I have made one sale. I would ideally like to make 5-8 sales a week so I can get promoted to leader. I am having trouble getting people to the table, and closing them once I have them interested in the idea. If there is ANYONE familiar with DirecTV sales or anything remotely familiar, I would love some advice as I am only 23 and still learning and adapting. I want to have a successful sales career because I love the challenge of it. [link] [comments] |
What's the best email tracking system out there? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:24 AM PST I have Outlook on a Mac and looking for a tool that can track emails that opened, links clicked etc. I've used bananatag in the past and remember it being a little clunky working with Outlook in the Mac environment. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Looking for Advice on Finding the BEST Salesperson for B2B Posted: 23 Jan 2018 11:10 PM PST Do you have any tips for how to find someone that's exceptional at sales and that would really excel at B2B sales in the digital marketing space? I currently have a 6 year old digital agency, and I want to grow considerably. I have the infrastructure and systems in place to effectively scale up, but I need a person/team to help me get there. Looking for tips from great sales people and sales managers for how to find the right fit for this role. [link] [comments] |
Any advice for a top sales worker who has become demotivated? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 10:40 PM PST I work in B2B sales for a marketing company, which has around 12-15 employees. We have recently started coming out of debt which we had for almost 2 years, and now looks like we will in the next 2 months be debt free. I have been at the company for a period of around two years, and have learnt a great deal from the work environment. I would easily say that I am the top performer in the sales team, following strict rules and approaches that I put in place for each of my calls/meetings. Some of which I learnt from this amazing little group. However, recently I have started to become demotivated with my job, and I believe it may be for the following reasons:
All of the above have left me feeling demotivated and almost unwilling to change my mentality towards my job. I know mentality is the key to sales, but in just really struggling to figure out what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Hey guys - How's this for a rebuttal? Come criticize & critique. Posted: 23 Jan 2018 04:55 PM PST Hey everyone - I recently started working in processing sales coming from a more finance-orientated background and LOVE what I do now. I'm killing it - in fact, even though it's my first month (and of course the results for the rest of the year stand yet to be seen) I'm #1 on the board of more than 40 closers. My biggest issue so far is that the "rebuttals" they provided us with suck. They're terrible and skirt around the client's actual issue and don't call for any action or try to move the conversation forward, so I came home and wrote down my own and I'd love some feedback on it. My day to day consists of calling warm leads who sent in their processing statements for a rate analysis, and switching them over to us. We always beat their current rates, saving them somewhere between 40-80% on their processing costs. Sounds easy, right? Well the reality is that a lot of merchants are jaded and have been screwed in the past by shitty processors / reps who will lie and say whatever necessary to close a sale - which means that even though we actually DO what we say, a lot of my clients have a hard time believing what I say as truth. I wrote this down and I think it sounds pretty good - I've written it to be read verbatim as it's in my exact cadence and it represents the way I normally speak - Please let me know what you think: AHEM (Merchant saying they dont want to move forward) I totally hear you - let me just ask you - Are you the person that sent us your statement? (Y/N) Okay, surely you sent it to see if you could actually save some money, right? I mean, obviously you want to make more money this year than last year. (Right, ok sure) Of course. So cutting on operational costs is the easiest way to increase your bottom line. I worked in finance before being recruited to XYZ Corp so I always like to get an idea of where a merchant stands to see if we would be a good fit. Based on the analysis we did of your statement, you stand to save ( $x/year or X% ). In my opinion, thats quit a bit of money, isn't it? (Y/N) Okay - so XYZ Corp actually gave you a super aggressive (rate) analysis - to be honest this is one of the better ones I've seen. Between you and me, If it's not the money that's holding you back from moving forward, what is it actually? (real objection) ADDRESS OBJECTION Okay, so why don't we go ahead and give it a shot. We're not gonna bind you to some sort of closed ended contract that you can't cancel - so since you have nothing to lose, why don't we do this: let's try it out - if you aren't 100% satisfied then just give me a call and send back the free terminal and I won't blame you. Does that sound fair enough? Thanks for reading guys - any and all feedback would be extremely appreciated!!! [link] [comments] |
Sales reps, what's the most useful info a support rep can gather when booking appointments for you? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:13 PM PST New to sales fresh out of college- SMB B2B sales support rep for a reputable payroll company that also provides HR services (HRS). I pitch HRS exclusively over the phone to our current clients, 90/10 split between cross selling and upselling. After being in this position for only a short while I've really hit my stride. I've started setting a high quantity of quality appointments for our outside sales reps, and today a rep called and asked me if I'd like to partner with him and call his leads! I'd like to make the most out of this opportunity, and we're speaking tomorrow to discuss our expectations. While I'm sure he'll give me a list of criteria that fit his needs, what can a support rep find out from a decision maker that help you sell your product or service to a business? tl;dr Apart from the obvious e.g. confirmed address date and time, what information can a support rep put in an appointments notes that will help you close a sale? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:17 PM PST He was hired over in the summer of 2017 to put together and manage a 5 man team. We worked together previously in lateral positions but he has considerable more experience than me. He left on good terms and on his way out spoke highly of me and told the V.P. of Sales and the co-founder of the company I am the man for the job. This would be my first management position. I feel comfortable moving into this role but would like to know what a reasonable salary range would be. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Any advice for a newbie in sales from you fine people? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:27 PM PST I am about to start my first sales job in a week and would love some advice from people who have been doing it for a while. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Advice on discussing previous employer to new company Posted: 23 Jan 2018 04:50 PM PST I just wanted some advice on how to handle this discussion if it happens to come up with a potential new employer. Let me start with a quick back story of my previous employer. The previous company I was at was an insurance software company for the US. I handled all sales accounts, customer retention, marketing and oversaw implementation. I was with the company for almost 3 years. Before this position, was in medical software for 2 years. My work ethic is quota focused, honest and upfront, work with great integrity and focus on the proper sales cycle per industry. The company I was previously with just let me go on New Year's Day over a text message. Yes I said a text message. The CEO is a technical individual who has no business running a company. He was smart with money and entered the market back when their was no competition and had one hell of a sales rep. That was in 98 and since then, he has made a terrible name for himself and the company. I mean the guy writes fake reviews on glass door acting as if he was an employee. I worked under a close friend while at this company and he was with this employer for 5 years, longest in company history (tells what type of CEO he is). My director was fired due to an argument with the CEO. Long story short, owner pulled back on a commission he promised. My director has recently gone to a competitor in our industry who has the proper resources, better product and better reputation. When I was fired, he stated this decision was to eliminate their CA branch and to not further continue my employment. Funny because I wasn't even selling in CA and was the only sales rep he had. I have heard from multiple sources this decision was due to him learning about my previous director and him not trusting me. I never gave him any reason to not trust me and have always been 150% of quota. It actually worked out because I have been wanting to leave and was provided with a new opportunity a few months ago. The new company I am looking to go to is creating the position so that is why I am waiting on an actual start date. I am reconnecting with the recruiter next month on further information for start dates. What I need help with is if the recruiter or director wants to ask me if I am still at my current employer, how should I address this? Of course I want to be honest and make sure they know this was not due to performance or something of my doing but how should I approach this? I don't want to give the whole story but want them to know this was a stupid, not thought out decision made by a crazy individual. Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you for sharing. Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:20 PM PST I've become disillusioned with the idea of getting a job that sends you to places for work, because that I've realized it doesn't allow much time for work. Now there's three options for me 1) Frequently quit and then come back for work 2) Seasonal Work 3) Contract Work I'm assuming 1 isn't going to fly to well in sales. Does sales offer anything in the way of seasonal work or contracts? [link] [comments] |
Anybody else sell Adaptive Insights or other CPM/BI software? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:00 PM PST Im a BDE with an Accounting firm and I'm having our call center test out a calling campaign to gauge the interest of Adaptive Insights with our current clients. I wanted to see if anybody here had advice on an effective script/message. We will be calling on CFOs, controllers, and other senior finance/accounting personal in all market segments. Currently my script/message was going to be; find out if they are still using Excel for FP&A. If they are then schedule a 30min "Executive Briefing" to see how we can help and start the sales cycle from there. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Help! First time cold calling. Here is my script. What do you think? Posted: 23 Jan 2018 12:21 PM PST Here is the first part of my cold calling script I wrote with some or your help in this subreddit. I was hoping for feedback from you experts. Please be gentle (but honest), for this is my first try. I start working in software selling next week and never did anything like it before. My job is to get the prospect into a presentation. Also I'm not native in English, so just ignort some of the bumpiness of the scipt: Hi, Tom, this is mrbbku from Company Y. Have I caught you at a bad time? (I took this intro form u/MVPhillips. He's got a lot of great ideas. Thanks for your input!) I want to offer you something. A tool that helps your business save resources in an unexpected place. That is in XYZ. I say unexpectedly because many companies have never thought of saving here. (Idea behind this: Create a slight hint of curiosity. Make them think about the potential savings in XYZ) Have you already thought about saving time and money in XYZ? (Idea:Engage the prospect and get some information) We offer software that makes XYZ so smooth and efficient that it's almost unfair. (Idea: is there anything more intriguing then an unfair advantage?) What I offer you is the possibility to test the software for free. If you love it, you can continue to work with it. What do you think? (Idea: making the decision for the first step as easy as possible) There it is! Now I am happy to get some feedback and also some tips for a rooky from you pros [link] [comments] |
