Challenger Sales users - what is your experience of this methodology?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 07:49 AM PST

As per the title, I'm interested in what you reps (and marketeers) that use this methodology think of it?

My boss has mentioned this and I've recently completed the book of the same name. Interesting stuff for sure.

If you reply it would be cool to know which industry you are in also.

    Thanks

Tips for new inside/associate med device rep

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:09 AM PST

So I come from a clinical background and am working at a med device(capital equipment) company still considered in startup phase, but we are growing tremendously fast. We sell to hospitals directly, and my role is working as an inside rep setting appointment for the outside ASMs. I also will begin to see my own accounts and go on field rides here soon to transition into an outside role within 1 year. Great company, great training program, which I am only in phase 2/3 of, but the training mainly focuses on the outside field team(clinical and sales) and not so much on the calling aspect.

My manager is great, he helps with talk tracks and whatnot, but I can't seem to get through to any decision makers in these facilities. Whether it be going to voicemail, no answers, etc. This is my first week actually calling, and my list of accounts is fairly small right now, but it sucks not seeing success. Any tips for a newbie in this field and how to succeed?

Does anyone use hoovers for leads? Newbie btw

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 08:49 AM PST

Eventually I will be able to add value to everyone up here because I damn sure owe for all the valuable info you guys post.

I'm a salesman for a startup, we didn't receive training and the leads we get are basically just the website link with no real contacts. Does anyone here use hoovers to get legit contact info or are there better sites that aren't to expensive?

    Figure out a prospect's email

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 01:34 PM PST

    I use this site.

    http://gb-emailvalidator.azurewebsites.net/

Put in first, last, and domain name, it tests common email formats for that name, and lets you know if any are valid. It does take about 20 seconds, but it's helped me in prospecting today.

If anyone knows a better one, let me know!

    Interactive offer/presentation tools to use

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:40 AM PST

I'm in the midst of building up a new company offer, and we need it to be somewhat interactive. It's a B2B presales service.

What it has to have is an interactive checkbox for the service categories, where checking each box would automatically calculate the price and/or have a hyperlink option so it can send the prospect to the service category description.

Has anyone had any experience with making "live" offers such as this, and what software have you used?

Tips for feeling less uncomfortable asking for payment info?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:01 PM PST

A close is essentially getting the client's credit card information, as this is phone sales and the only payment method we accept is credit card.

Sometimes I feel that I can be a little uncomfortable when people mention security, or say "wait... how much are you taking from my account" or any kind of direct mention of processing payment. I always inform them of our policy, that we need full consent prior to any charges with us in the future(which I do not handle) and we only bill when they will receive services.

It's just with the recent identity theft crisis, equifax, and all the merchants that have been hacked I can't really argue with people when they're concerned about security.

Any advice for this particular hang up?

Who was the top seller at your company in 2017?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 01:50 PM PST

With the calendar year behind us I'm working on setting up interviews on the Sales Success Stories Podcast for 2018 where I ONLY interview #1/top 1% individual contributors.

Would love to know who the top seller in your org was last year. Feel free to drop a link to their LinkedIn profile in a reply.

Those who aren't consistent and got lucky in the sales lottery need not apply.

    Thanks!

How to Make Startup's First Sale: Overcoming the "who else is using this" question?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 12:36 AM PST

Hi guys, recently joined a startup and while they have a great product hitting an unsolved need we keep running into a brick wall in sales calls when customers say "well that's great, but who is using this?" We don't want to lie but the answer is "no one" which ends up killing their interest. We have leads with 7-8 companies but those are in various stages and no contracts have been signed.

How can we get over this? Even if the first contact is fine with it, someone inevitably hits us with this question. Market is B2B for companies >200, product cost around 10k/year. I understand the startup has had this come up around 8 times already and so they can't land their first customer. What can we say?

Job I love(d) has taken a turn for the worse; where to go from here?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 02:43 PM PST

I've been in copier sales for about 4 years at a local dealership. It has been an awesome job. I love the people and the work; it offers a lot of autonomy and freedom as long as you were performing.

My company was recently sold to a large corporation. Now, I've lost a lot of the autonomy I loved about the job. Instead of twice weekly sales meetings, we will now have daily sales meetings and have to come back to the office each afternoon. My hours which were 8-5pm are now 7:30-5:30pm. Our new manager wants to go on calls with us at least once a week. Inconveniently, our out-cost has risen about 80% on our products. Before this price increase, our company was inline with other vendors in the area; not super low or super high. It's hard to imagine competing with this increase.

I understand this is how a lot of corporate companies work, but it's not what I want to do. I've been a solid performer; consistently at quota. For 2017, I finished at around $72k. I understand there is more money to made with harder work and longer hours, but I'm content with that income and my current work/life balance.

SO, where do I go from here? It's hard to find similar outside sales roles that offer a similar level of income without overnight travel. Ideally, I'd like to travel within a set territory of an hour - 1.5 hour radius.

I've been looking on Indeed and haven't found anything that looks promises. Has anyone worked with sales recruiters? Are there better job boards to be looking at? Are there recommendations for an industry or sort of job I should be seeking out?

    Thanks!

    Anxiety with dialing, not talking.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 12:44 PM PST

I have been in sales for years. One of my first gigs was as a customer service rep (call center) for At&T. During these calls we were supposed to offer U-Verse (AT&T's version of Comcast). I always struggled with this. Most people who called in to the center were doing so because they needed help with a problem. My job was to fix the problem and then sell them TV and internet. I really had a hard time doing that because I felt like I wasn't valuing them. They weren't there to buy TV and Internet. When it came time to pitch it (a requirement), I would get so anxious I couldn't do it. Extreme anxiety would pop up and block me. The few times I did pitch it I was extremely successful and sold it a high percentage of the time. During this time I had the highest customer satisfaction ratings site wide (around 600 people). Everyone liked me, I just couldn't get over the anxiety.

Fast forward and I work in a store for Verizon and I'm the top rep in my district (top 3 in the state) and I'm killing it. In person no problem. Someone rejects me, who cares?

Present day I am now in real estate and I work on a successful team. I am now expected to make cold calls every day and that Anxiety is back. Can't even dial the number. Heres the kicker, No one has ever one time cussed at me, hung up on me, yelled at me. Nothing. I can't understand why I get this anxiety. Once I start talking to them its just two people having a conversation. I forget all about my anxiety.

Does anyone have any advice or methods that I can use or try? I would be forever grateful.

    Thanks.

    I am The Package

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:51 AM PST

During one of my personal discussion sessions for heading sales in an FMCG company, after being selected , owner of the MSME asks me "so Mr. Sharma, how many of your team members from your organization will join us along with you ?"

(For record previous sales head in his organization has left with most of his sales team to join a rival organization with entire team).

Me: "Sorry sir,I am not Pied Piper. I don't bring any proprietary information or any team member and for that matter not even any of channel partners from my previous organization.

I am THE PACKAGE. Take it or leave it. Me and HR dept will build sales organization from scratch in your organization if you are ready for the PACKAGE."

In their rush to build sales volumes and gain more market share, promoters want get lured by Pied Pipers, not realizing who join you en masse today ,may leave you en masse tomorrow.

What seems fast team formation now may result in equally fast team erosion.

Wolves hunt in packs. They arrive in packs and leave in packs.

Have you ever wasted time prospecting a non-decision-maker? If so, how did you recover the deal?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 08:16 PM PST

I've been prospecting a particular company for a few months, under the impression that I've been speaking with the decision-maker. Now the prospect is referring to the decision to be made as a 'team-decision' which leads me to believe she is not the one I need to be speaking to.

I may be wrong, but I am wondering how you guys have gotten on.

Not very happy when customer come in and look for specific others(retail)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:41 PM PST

I work in a retail shop and been working for many years.I have always dislike when customer come in looking for my manager or colleague instead of me,I felt frustrated and angry.I know I shouldn't have felt this way because on the bigger picture I should not be so selfish but as long as the company profit then it's okay.I always think my ex colleague has more customer then me because he is experience. Now a new colleague joined in and he has more customer then I do even though I have worked in this company a few years more then him.Am I a loser?how can I change this because getting upset and angry affect my mental health and confident. How can I be more of a team player and think of my company instead of myself?

    Opinions on up selling.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2018 07:23 PM PST

What is yalls opinion on up selling?

I sell home renovations. Roofs, windows, doors, etc..

I had a goals meeting and my manager said "you know when you're going to a gutter lead, you don't have to sell them just gutters right? Sell them windows or something too!!"

I know a lot of reps do this, or try to do it. But so much of my style is based on rapport that I don't want them to feel like I'm being too pushy and am just trying to sell them. I guess I know if someone was trying to sell me something and they end up trying to sell me something I'm not even interested in, I would just be turned off and not even buy. And I don't want to risk that.

Hey sales folks, I was told today that I'm pretty good at formal pitches and public speaking, but that I need work on small group sales or group communication. Are their any resources, books seminars, or conferences that teach less formal sales and communication?
