Canadian here, got a car insurance question

So this may be rather rant-like because I am incredibly frustrated right now. Essentially I'm 16 and 17 in 9 days and my parents are divorced, all relevant information. There are two cars I may drive, my mother's Volvo S40 2007 and my own 1999 Subaru Impreza, a gift from my father. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and the insurance company that my mother uses is Hatter & Associates and the one my father uses that my Subaru should be added under is The Co-Operators. I had previously frequently taken my mothers volvo out with a learners license occasionally without her which may be legally grey but moving on.. Tonight I had the chance to pick up a beautiful girl for a night on the town but apparently my mother moved the keys so I couldn't take it. The issue is I have a full license meaning I can drive till 12 PM with no adult in the car BUT the Volvo is not insured for me to drive with Hatter & Associates and my own personal car is not insured for me to drive with the Co-Operators yet as it was a Christmas gift. I'm tempted to say screw it but I know my parents won't let me drive, even my own car if it isn't insured. If I can get at least one of them insured within the week I may have a chance to go out again next weekend. What must I do and is it possible to get either car insured within one week?

(PA) Switched auto insurance company. Received a letter from old company that policy is expired due to non-payment and will report my vehicle to DOT. Do I need to do something about this letter?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:17 AM PST

I have an active insurance policy with new company. Notified the old one that I would not renew on renewal date. The agent said they will send me a confirmation letter but this letter is what I received instead. The letter is also giving me a chance to remit payment.

My first thought is to ignore this letter but want to ask for opinions. Thank you.

Having problems getting my claim done with gieco

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 11:59 AM PST

So this past November ny motorcycle was stolen while visiting family in CA, i live in NC. No big deal i've had a bike stolen before noone got hurt i have insurance, is what i told myself. 30 day "let the police find it" period goes by and i have not recieved a call from the claims agent. Ok no biggie i'll call, first time left a message 2nd or 3rd time i finally get ahold of this guy, he says he's on another call which will take awhile so he'll call me back, ok no biggie. Two days go by and nothing so i call leave a message, rinse and repeat 3 times a week for 3 weeks. I have recieved a few emails stating they have tried to reach me, well thats bologna, so i keep leaving messages. The last week of december i call customer service they give me the number for the supervisor i call that and leave a message. Next day i get an email saying they tried to contact me but the number on file doesn't work. Which is wierd so i check it lo and behold two of the numbers are swapped that's weird had this company for about 7 years first time i seen this. So ok ill take that change it and continue leaving messages so still haven't heard anything. Bike was reported stolen on Nov 2, i can't get a local claim rep because of CA laws, i'm still making payments on the bike and paying the insurance on it. I left my phone number name and claim number on every message and still nothing. This is seriously starting to make me angry. I've never had a problem dealing with gieco in NC. Monday i am going to call costumer service again, what else can i do to help my situation. Since i reported the bike i have paid about 1400$ for the bike and insurance on it.

    COBRA Question

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 10:08 AM PST

I left my old job on November 17th and my health insurance coverage ended the same day. My health insurance with my new job started on December 27th. Unfortunately, I ended up in the ER on December 17th when I didn't technically have insurance. Am I able to sign up for COBRA retroactively for the period that I was without insurance so I can get that bill covered?

Are these pictures of parking lot accident sufficient proof that I was reversed into?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:41 AM PST

    Full Album

I was reversing out of a parking spot and then I stopped because someone started reversing towards my car. While my car wasn't moving he reversed into my back left side of the car.

His car is marked with a line of red paint from my car

By the way, his car was parked on a red and white sidewalk (not allowed)

Not sure if this helps but The Yellow sign translates too "No parking" (he was parked illegally) I have a witness who I filmed saying what happen.

What are my options for escalation on an auto accident claim where company is only repairing part of the damage?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 02:45 PM PST

Briefly, my SUV was hit by a sedan in an intersection, other driver was making a U-turn when they hit me in the left rear side. Impact was on my tire, ripped their bumper off and rocked the car. Only visible damage was a scratched wheel, but SUV was undrivable.

Repair shop diagnosed left wheel hub damage, right wheel hub destroyed, ABS sensor broken, and right axle damage. Vehicle is 2005, and both rear wheel hubs were replaced in the last 12 months as part of maintenance - new parts.

Insurance adjuster and claims are covering only the left and right wheel hubs, but denying the ABS and Axle. The axle is my concern - this vehicle was fine prior to the accident, now it isn't.

Claims rep stated, I kid you not, "the axle was rusted and we feel it would have eventually happened anyway, so we are considering this a maintenance issue and not part of the accident" and "the impact was on the left, damage does not jump to the right". My response is that it may eventually happen, but it doesn't matter if it was 6 weeks or 6 months or 6 years, the fact is it happened during this accident.

Escalated to a supervisor. Got nowhere. Appealed through my agent, who also called and got nowhere.

Are there any other avenues that I can pursue for appeals? At this point I have no idea how to navigate this issue.

Edit to add: Location is Utah, USA. Company is State Farm.

Rental car insurance provided by my Credit Union

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 07:39 AM PST

My credit union provides rental car insurance but (I'm sure) it isn't complete. Here's what they explained to me:

To provide an excerpt directly from their website: "The Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver ("Auto Rental CDW") benefit offers insurance coverage for automobile rentals made with your Visa card. The benefit provides reimbursement (subject to the terms and conditions) for damage due to collision or theft up to the actual cash value of most rental vehicles."

So obviously they're only protecting the rental agency: there's no injury insurance, nor any protection for damage to the other guy's car.

Would my own insurance (Farmers) cover such injury or damage? Has anyone ever experienced any pitfalls with using this kind of insurance?

Need help identifying Auto Insurer from policy number alone.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2018 08:42 AM PST

    Hi.

I got hit by a van that was rented my a movie company in early December. They admitted fault right away and even said a similar accident happened earlier that day. I got the police report and the other driver was cited.

the police report has a policy number that starts with GMA followed by 9 numbers. The Insurance Co. is Miscellaneous.

I have called the driver who doesn't answer his phone, and the owners of the car claim they are not liable and will not give me the information of the people who rented the van.

Meanwhile, I have a car that is not driveable and minor injuries that need some medical attention.

Any help finding the insurer so I can file a claim would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Edit: Location was Atlanta, GA. USA.

    Help understanding gap

    Posted: 05 Jan 2018 09:49 PM PST

My car was recently totaled. When I purchased it, I was upside down. From what I've been told, GAP will not pay the portion on the previous loan I rolled in. Neither my leinholder nor the gap provider can give me figures until they've received payment from my insurance provider. However, this is taking forever and I'd like to start planning. I'm trying to calculate how much I'll end up paying out of pocket. Anyone interested in looking at the figures to help calculate?
