What qualities do you look for in a company before investing, both for quick and long term investing?

Rather than ask "what stocks should I buy", I figure this is a better question that should be asked for those who want to start, but have no clue where to begin. Please explain your reasoning.

    Pick (1) Cybersecurity stock

    Posted: 10 Dec 2017 06:59 AM PST

Trying to add a cybersecurity stock to my portfolio. I've been doing some research, but interested to hear other's opinions. Of course there are the usual suspects I've been researching (Palo Alto Networks, Fireeye, Fortinet, Cyberark). Any new names to consider?

    Any Good Fidelity Mutual Funds

    Posted: 10 Dec 2017 02:03 PM PST

Eyeballing a few Fidelity mutual funds for my brokerage account. I use index funds for my 401k & Roth IRA, so I was looking to diversify with an actively managed mutual fund for my brokerage account (roughly $50k). Bull markets not going to last forever, so having a pro manage my fund in a bear market is a nice hedge to all my passively managed 401k & Roth IRA funds.

Looking for an aggressive growth mutual fund, so naturally the Contrafund is on top of my list. Anyone else have any other good recommendations?

    SOXL - Thoughts?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:15 AM PST

It's getting rocked pretty hard right now and I'm not sure why. Overvalued? Anyway is it a good time to invest more or do you guys think it's a good idea to cut my losses and look elsewhere?

What custodial account do you use for your children?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2017 12:20 AM PST

Hello I did a google search, and a reddit subreddit search. Most are questions from underage teens trying to open an account for themselves.

I am asking as a 30 year old who wants an account for my children 1 and 2 years old.

I have USAA but the fee is high. What custodial account do you use for your children?

    Low fees, easy interface etc.

    Has tech officially reversed?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2017 08:51 PM PST

I thought the tax bill passage would impact tech heavily and we would see some kind of permanent slowdown of money going into tech. But clearly we have already reversed if you look at a lot of the big names.

Anyone understand what's really going on?. Is this some kind of deadcat bounce?(Although credit suisse is reporting that hedge funds are already back on tech, so it's not just dumb money)

    Thanks

    [Question] Non-GAAP net income

    Posted: 09 Dec 2017 09:16 PM PST

I understand what a Non-GAAP Earnings Report is, and how that differs from a GAAP Earnings Report.

However, I am confused as to what a company means when they state they want to ''deliver non-GAAP net income''.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2017 03:16 PM PST

With batteries and energy storage being major in the future, and now, just wondering which companies to have a look at for the long haul.

    Thanks for all the comments!

Do you think they will recover? Now could be the time to buy.

    IOSP

Anybody know anything about Innospec? It's been trading up and suddenly the last week it started dropping. Don't know whether it'll rebound either.
