The Pitch Elevator - A place to post your elevator pitch and receive feedback + network Posted: 10 Dec 2017 05:47 AM PST I am developing a site to post your elevator pitch (for free). It limits each post to 400 words and splits each post up into 4 sections including: - Introduction - The problem - The solution - The benefit Users will be able to network on the site and rate eachother's ideas. The site will be useful to those who want to find those interested in investing, partnering, receiving feedback on the idea and just getting your name out there. What do you guys think? Is this something you would use? [link] [comments] |
[21 Y/O] Serious question(s) - how does on "start" and run a business? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 12:47 PM PST Hey /r/Entrepreneur! This is my first ever post here so my apologies if I didn't follow the 1-8 posting, I really didn't think it applied to my situation. I just have a quick serious of questions. How does someone start a business? Particularly an LLC ? I picked LLC over sole prop. as it offers more protection over personal assets. I ideally would like to run this business out of my apartment and make sales locally, via eBay and possibly my own eCommerce website platform. I wanted to do something in the land of computers, such as troubleshooting, diagnosing, fixing, building, re-selling from estate sale etc. I know for a fact that if I went brick and mortar I'd be out of business fast because overhead is so expensive and the PC market is very over saturated. A few questions I have are:
Thanks so much for the help. I'm not saying I'm nose deep ready for a business, but it's something I've been thinking about for quite sometime, but I definitely want to see the ins/outs of everything before I give it serious consideration. [link] [comments] |
Reasonable amount of equity to give up for marketing Posted: 10 Dec 2017 07:46 AM PST I have a SaaS that I have built but it is not growing near what I had hoped not because the product is bad but because I simply just can't sell well. I have found someone in the same country as me to be the person to market, they don't have any formal experience but from what I know and what they have said, they know enough to get me to 100 paid users. They are asking for a 60/40 split, this seems high to me considering I built it all, paid for everything so far ect. They agree it needs to be vested based off a mix of milestones and time. 10% up front then 10% 1 year later, and so on. I can't seem to get my head around giving up 40% just for someone to do the marketing at the start, sure they won't get a salary to start but even considering that I just think it's high. What do you think would be a fair % to give up for them to handle the marketing and some of the business related stuff? [link] [comments] |
How do you handle stress and anxiety in your day to day? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 08:20 AM PST A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I've since been seeing a psychologist every once and awhile although for the most part I have it under control using systems and techniques. Background: most of my anxiety game from working in my business. I'd stay up late at night worrying about what people might say or do and analyze every scenario to the point I wouldn't get any sleep. Here are things that I'm using today that help me: Systems wise, I use check lists and a lot of spreadsheets so that I know where things are at with the business. I don't worry about cash flow anymore because I have metrics to see how much cash I have until I run out. I use things like OmniFocus (I've used todoist and other tools) as well as OneNote to write down any thoughts or ideas. I also do a journal to get most of those "thoughts" out on paper that seem to help me. As for techniques, I've been taught a few things. As odd as it sounds, breathing exercises. The second I feel anxious I start through a series of breathing. The other technique I use is basically talking to myself with words like "It shall pass" or "it is no concern to you". For those that are entrepreneurs, what systems, tools and techniques are you using that you find helpful? I'm always trying to improve so I'd love to hear what others might be doing. Anyone have any experience selling into colleges? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:22 AM PST I have done b2b sales for a couple years but we are beginning to offer services to colleges, is there anything weird that I should know? I have to experiment with the exact target but do department directors (on the operations side) have purchasing power? [link] [comments] |
Pitch Night from the Co.Lab’s Fall Accelerator Cohort in Chattanooga Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:51 AM PST During my recent AMA, I had a few people ask about my pitch. I thought I'd post our local accelerator's pitch night video here. Enjoy! [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have experience with name brand sunglasses? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 08:04 AM PST Will brands like Oakley, Rayband, costa, sell direct to a ecom store for resale? Every vendor application requires a brick and mortar, does anyone have suggestions or experience with this? [link] [comments] |
Well, I made a website! It's very simple, and needs work, but I'd appreciate feedback. Posted: 10 Dec 2017 07:46 AM PST A while back, I ran a website idea past a few of you, and some mentioned it would be useful, so I just went ahead and made it. It's called www.theideaegg.com. It is a very basic site right now, since this is my first website, and I'm feeling my way through it. I'm working on getting help on the aesthetics. The goal of this website right now isn't even to make money directly from it; it's to encourage the sharing of ideas. It's to give people a place to brain dump all those "why doesn't someone do it this way?" ideas. When I work with my other business partners, we have some solid skills, but we have trouble coming up with what we think are "good" ideas, or at least the "right" idea for us at the time. In my research, I learned that it is difficult to find a broad range of ideas all in one place, so it's my hope that this website will help accomplish this. Please check it out if you like, provide feedback, and if you're really awesome, register, and make a post with an idea! Thanks Reddit. [link] [comments] |
managing cryptocurrency for others Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:28 AM PST Hi everybody, due to the hype around cryptocurrencies I started getting into the topic and keep informing myself. I myself don't have really money to put in it. Lately friends and acquaintances keep offering me to handle their money to put in various cryptocurrencies for like 10% of their profit. Now I'm not an expert in cryptocurrencies at all, but they insist that they're not willing to get into learning about it enough. Might this be a good idea to set up a contract with them and seriously do this? It seems like a good chance to make money out of a interest/hobby. [link] [comments] |
Working for a friend. Any tips? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:16 AM PST A really good friend of mine (10+ years) has started a business recently and its really taken off. He currently needs some help with the workload. I want to help him out, he's been gunning to be his own boss for years and I'd love to see him become a success. I know I have many skills that can help and feel it will be a good fit. However you often hear "don't work with family or friends" as if things go bad it can tarnish a friendship. What are some things we can do to avoid any fallout? Has anyone worked for or hired a friend / family member and had it work out? Anyone done that and have it turn sour? Any helpful advice would be great! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Dec 2017 10:07 AM PST We have a heavy shortage of quick and cheap bites on my (very) large college campus. I can make really good Mac and cheese and I have a group of friends who would be willing to help. Would it be worth going through the permit process and all the paperwork just to sell Mac and Cheese? What would that process look like? I would just have a small stand, paper bowls, $5 for a bowl, $1 for topping (bacon, chicken, etc) and $1 for a drink. Seems simple enough, this recipe has gotten me through the first semester at college and I'd love to share it. [link] [comments] |
I want to offer IT-Support for old people in my town, what should be the pricing? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 08:24 AM PST hello, so i want to use my time properly and i read something about offering IT-Support for old people (Setting up basic stuff, explaining email and so forth). I really want to show them how things work and offer high quality service, so they recommend that to their friends. What should be the pricing for stuff like that? i was thinking about 25€ for a complete session but its underpriced, i dont know. What are your opinions? [link] [comments] |
Brand Identity Design + Cinematic Video Editing Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:20 AM PST I've seen a lot of people here start up agencies or people making living based on freelancing those skills (basically great with photoshop & a major video editing software). Would love to work with someone from on here. I am in need of someone who can do that well and am willing to pay. I tried the free logo guys on here / unlimited design per month but the quality was a bit sub par it was right for the price but I am in need of something of higher quality. I know this isn't a place to hire but since I have seen a lot of posts with people in that area here I am giving it a shot anyway. Please PM me / comment if you think we can work together or comment and recommend a person/service i should checkout. To give a bit more context I am looking for the work to be done for a new shirts (button down) focused clothing brand that is in the process of being set up. P.S. Also looking for photographers/videograpehers in the NYC area! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Dec 2017 05:34 PM PST I find it so hard to get my family and friends to understand this entrepreneurial bug that I have had. All of my friends are focused on graduating and working for someone. I want to make use of my skills and passion to work for myself. I have the drive, energy, passion, and skills to seek opportunities. I just hate that the ride is so lonely, it's demotivating... there's some saying that goes "if you surround yourself with the right people..." I've been on reddit for almost 10 years but I am recently just engaging with this platform. People on here have so much ambition and I want to be surrounded by you all. Can we be friends? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 01:46 PM PST So I have decided to start a part-time business on the side as a personal trainer. I know that this isn't particularly scaleable, unless somebody knows something I don't, but I want to give it a go, help improve lives and make some cash along the way My value proposition I am aware that there are thousands of personal trainers that focus on cutting weight, building muscle and the dreaded word that is "toning". I want to do something slightly different for the most part, however, I will also be helping people that want to do the above things as well. I want to focus on helping people train for a big event such as a Tough Mudder, or the London Marathon. I have participated in a few of these events myself and I have developed training methods suitable for such occasion. So where do I go from here? I will predominantly be offering online services. This will include weekly check ins, reviewing the training schedules and making sure the client is preparing themselves in the best way possible for the event. I am building the website as we speak and will be creating some social media content. The social media platform I will be using will be Instagram for the most part, as that seems to be where every fitness person is based. So, once I have the website up and I start creating content, how would you recommend picking up clients. I will be informing friends and family about my services. Would you recommend running ads to get clients? Trying to enter FB groups that are made up of people that participate in these events? Speaking to corporates that may be facilitating charity events and offering my services to them? I would be interested in your thoughts! [link] [comments] |

Tips in regards of selling my fb and shopify shop. Posted: 10 Dec 2017 01:29 PM PST I have a pretty normal niche but thanks to my facebook page (half million fans, most of them US located, some europe, little third word). I am able to get a lot of orderds, problem is in my country the dropshipping doesn't really work well cuz of the problems with tax deductible costs and due to that I had to stop running the shop. Now the shop itself is nothing (free theme, products from aliexpress etc) but just with 1 post on my fanpage I can get a lot of orders (and the charts can prove it). Obviously I would be selling it with the facebook fanpage, this is the only thing that has value here, but that's the case nobody is going to pay me enough for the page but if they knew how much they could earn running the shop, they would go for it. I've made like 6-7 posts (not ads, simple posts) overall on facebook and got 3300 USD profit just from that. I'm positive it can earn a lot more, and anybody who will get a look will probably too. Where can I find a potential buyer? and how to make sure I don't get scammed? cheers [link] [comments] |

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 01:20 PM PST I started an investing blog and forum a few months ago: forum: https://forum.basic-capital.com/ blog: https://basic-capital.com/ When I started the blog I knew almost nothing about SEO and just wrote loads of average blog posts with random keywords. But now I have learned more about different SEO strategies and I really like the idea of building up traffic using a long tail strategy to create an organic stream of user-generated content through the forum.. My strategy is to focus on 10 'hot' trends/themes I believe will be important in the next few years (healthcare investment, rise of china, crypto/crypto derivatives, ai and robotics, millennial inheritance etc) and focus on long tail searches for these. I usually find the long tail keywords at the bottom of google for these and then post questions and answers in the forum myself... It is dishonest, but I think every forum owner has to do that in the beginning before they attract genuine users (including the founders of this fine establishment!) There are elements of this strategy which would be considered old school SEO though, especially long tail keyword SEO. So, I want to know if people would consider this a reasonable strategy for building up traffic? Or whether, I should focus on good old guest posting. Many people recommend blogging against setting up a forum, but the blogging space is crowded and I am willing to be patient for traffic.. Note: I'm using one of my throwaway accounts, hence the absolutely pathetic karma. [link] [comments] |
Acquiring a PCI compliant business Posted: 10 Dec 2017 02:15 AM PST I'm in the process of acquiring a business that happens to store credit card details of its members and as a result complies with the PCI DSS. This seems to be causing a roadblock for us because the current owner doesn't want to give me full access to everything until all money has been released from Escrow citing that this would be a breach of the standard. I'm not familiar enough with PCI compliance but I wouldn't doubt that it would be a problem especially if I find evidence that things are not as they appear on the surface and back out. My proposal is to have one of my developers add Stripe support and uploading the details to Stripe removing the need for PCI compliance then giving me full access (minus the CC details that were previously used). I haven't heard back yet regarding this. Has anyone worked with acquiring another business in this situation? All my previous acquisitions have already used Stripe or PayPal rather than taking credit card info directly. Is there a better way to handle this? [link] [comments] |
Exchanging Royalty in Product for Equity in Company? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 12:48 PM PST A year ago I pitched an idea to a startup tech company for an app I would like to see built--the company is still purely private equity. They agreed and we set up a contract fro 10% of the profits in exchange for helping design the produce. I pulled a partner into the development process we would share in the work and profits. Now a year later the product is in various phases of release--one business is using it as is, there's been lots of conversations about strategic marketing, etc.. The CEO and founder is worried that the 10% that we're contractually obligated to is going to hinder the products ability to get to market and be self-sustaining in the early years, and was considering a) differing royalties until it's more on its own two legs, or b) finding a fair way to exchange royalty of the app to shareholder equity in the company. The company mostly sells little widgets and does consulting, and I believe this is their first major product that they're shipping to market. We believe it could be a big hit in the niche industry. My Question: What are they key things I need to look for to ensure that if we take equity we're getting a fair deal? They've agreed to show us the books. We're also hoping that this gives us more say over the direction of the company and keeping them focused on deadlines. Right now they're a bit all over the place. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Anyone with experience in the moving industry? Posted: 10 Dec 2017 12:06 PM PST I am about to finish a website that will connect moving companies (as well as junk removal, yard waste pickup and a few other categories) to their customers who are searching for their services. It will allow for customers to get multiple quotes and make a full inventory of their moving list. I am looking for low cost advertising methods to reach these customers as well as the companies themselves. Does anyone here own a moving business? Would you use a service like this to find additional business? Any advice would be appreciated as I approach a launch in the next couple of months. [link] [comments] |
Growing my Linkedin connections for a month Posted: 10 Dec 2017 11:40 AM PST I have published the results of my social media experiment on LinkedIn. Over the past 4 weeks I have been working to extend my network and tried to be active (almost) every day. In this post I summarize the whole experience and provide detailed information and the final numbers. In case you don't want to read the whole thing the TL;DR version is my network grew by 33% jumping from about 1400 connections to 1900. I did not become an influencer (that was not the goal anyway), but I am pretty happy with the overall experience and I learned a lot from it. If you have any tips about how to grow my LinkedIn network further please let me know. [link] [comments] |
