I sold something once, the best sales pitch of my life, on accident. Posted: 27 Nov 2017 06:52 PM PST We were at the Tucson Gem and Minerals show about five years ago. We were selling gemstones like everyone else, some good, some not. We had a small display of rubies... about two dozen of them (yeah, we were small fries there) and my dad told me we can sell all the rubies, but not that one. This one he bought in Brazil 20 years ago and wasn't for sale. It was the best one, the deepest red... but a standard ruby none the less, he just liked it. Later that day, a pair of ladies walk in and stop at the rubies. Now, I'm not getting paid, and they want rubies. I walk them through our selection, but I tell them, if you really want a ruby, let me show you this one. I pull out the ONE. It's a deep red, obviously not off the shelf quality. I tell them to look for this, I'm sure plenty of sellers have it, but you cant have this one. If you just need rubies though, I got plenty of rubies. The lighting altered. The air in the room changed, I could smell it. They were TIGERS and I was prey. They were wrong. "What if we want that one?" "It's not for sale" "Why?" "Because my dad bought this himself, in Brazil, 20 years ago. It's his favorite and you just can't find quality like this any more." "I'll give you (a decent amount of money)" "I just, I just can't. Dad would kill me." She doubles it. I tap my dad on the shoulder, show him the money on the table, he sold that shit right then and there. Wish I had it on video. [link] [comments] |
Any recommendations for simple scheduling tools? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:21 AM PST Hi guys, I'm looking for a tool that'll let me cut down the amount of time and effort suggesting appointment slots to prospects. You know the drill. I typically find a couple available slots, and email a prospect asking which is better for them (prompting them to choose A or B, not Yes or No). Then wait for them to reply and confirm, then I go to the calendar and create the event... and hopefully I didn't book it with someone else in the meantime. I'm looking for a tool that will let me choose a couple slots, email links to the prospect, let them choose one, then lock in the event (and preferably clear the other tentative slot). It has to work with Google calendar. I've looked at calendly; I could be wrong, but it appears much more active in finding open times on my calendar for me and suggesting them. I'd like more control than it appears to offer. Google apps offers this, but it appears it must be done through a desktop browser, and isn't accessible from Mobil. I need something that's mobile friendly, as I spend a lot of time on the road and that's my go to device. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in this area? TL;DR: looking for a tool to let me email appointment slots to a prospect, let them choose one, then lock in the appointment automatically. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Contact \ Prospect management tool. Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:29 AM PST Good day all, i am a sales executive and having an issue with managing my prospect's and new clients in regards to follow up calls and timing. i have been looking at CRM software but its to in depth for what i require, all i am looking for is a software (preferably not online hosted) that i can import my client list +-400 contacts into and then have it notify me when i have not contacted them in a while or on a date that i specify. Assistance will be great as i am tired of searching online and only finding costly and extensive CRM's. [link] [comments] |

Wealth Management Sales. Best place to start? Please share your experience. Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:43 AM PST I've heard and read Edward Jones is good overall (the only thing is there are sooooooo many in my immediate area) I used to work in commission only mortgage industry back in the day and more recently did inside sales for an engineering services firm closed 1.5 million in sales all under 10K deals in year 1. They promised I could get paid on deals over 10k if I cold prospected them and closed them yet they handed them up to the Sr. Business Developer everytime (principal's brother). I was furious! When I got promoted to go outside sales they kept me at a 1% split still although that was not what we had discussed. 1% split seems very small to me. My sales manager was lying to me leading up to that event. Telling me things behind closed doors and completely different in the meetings. Suffered a head trauma and what I got out if it was I was selling myself short in the position I was in. Anyways, back to finance. I'm a CFP candidate and looking to get in the industry. I'm 33 so feeling a little ripe to jump in. I've been told to work for a fee only firm. Can anyone share their experiences? TLDR; Good inside salesmen with about 3 years experience looking to gain CFP while starting career in Wealth Management. Desperate for advice on where to start, what to look for etc ! My closing rate isn't good. I'd love to get some help as to why that is (my process inside). Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:42 AM PST So I do SEO work on the side for clients, and sometimes web design if they need it. I just closed a client last night using the process below, but I strongly believe it's because I met with him. I've used this process with other clients too, and I find it's because I sent over the proposal, and we ended up meeting afterwards in person to discuss. And of course, met before. I've used this same process with clients I've never met, and the rejection rate is literally 98%. So I'm not sure if it's because I'm not meeting them, and getting them to trust me, or what. Anyway, here's my process: #1 - Book a phone meeting 99% of the people I talk with are not local. I basically outreach cold to companies via emails and a pick a niche to do so, leveraging past results for people I've worked with within that niche. For example I just did a big sweep for mortgage brokers. So I found a massive directly of names and emails of brokers in my country, and contact them. #2 - Have the meeting I tell them very quickly what I do - I can help bring in more leads to them via ranking organically high in Google for the keywords their customers are searching for. They usually have a bunch of questions, and by the end, I tell them that I'm going to make a proposal for them (I call it a Solution Package). These meetings consistently end on a high note. #3 - Sending the proposal off Okay so, this is where I'm a bit lost. I'll explain in a sec. I offer tied pricing as I've noticed giving them cheap options to more expensive ones helps so much. So that's good. I then put an expiration date on the proposal. Two weeks. I tell them in the proposal I do so because I only work with a certain amount of clients at once to ensure I can focus and have the project become a success. After I send off the proposal, 90% of the time I get no response back. In that case, after one week, I email them saying the expiry is one week away, and I'd love to set up a meeting shortly to go over any questions or comments they may have. I just actually sent that email off yesterday to two prospects - and heard nothing back. #4 - Post-proposal send off??? Expiry date comes, nothing. Day after, I email them and say it's now expired. Then nothing. SO... I'm wondering a few things here. Its seems that everything up to sending the proposal works great. And after I send it, only seldom people come back and close and it just so happens that the close rate is much higher when I can meet these people. Since those people are so far away 90% of the time, there's no way I can. What are my options here? What do you see that I can do that I'm not doing now, that can help me close? Should I get the proposals ready, then email them and set up a time to go over them in detail and they make a decision on the spot? I'd love some help. Just seems like I don't know what I'm doing once I send off the proposal. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:23 AM PST Hello there, We launched a monthly subscription design service this month where we help SMBs, Merch by Amazon sellers, in-house marketing teams, and screen printing companies with the graphic design and illustrations they need to run their business. Visitors really seem to dig our site and our current customers are in love with our service but we are struggling to find new customers.
Is this normal? What are we doing wrong? Any advice would mean the world to me. I'd really appreciate, thanks a lot guys! Cheers, [link] [comments] |

Logistics burnout looking for change Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:40 AM PST Hey all, I've spent a year at a 3PL and just started earning commission. It is way less than I expected due to the way things seem to be set up to favor the company and I've been literally busting my ass for a year for about $35-40k. Before this, I spent 8 years in the military and I have an associates degree in Criminal Justice as my highest education. What can I step up into if anything? There doesn't seem to be a clear path from logistics as it isn't pure sales and also isn't really pure logistics. I would ideally like to make $50k at least, especially if I continue busting my ass which I am fine with. I need more money. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Free beta for a sales-enablement tool I've built Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:10 AM PST Hey all, I've been working on an MVP of a sales tool the past few months. I'd like to give back to the community and let some people use it for free, and hopefully close deals faster. I give you the product for free, you give me honest feedback. What it does It's a document tracking for your Dropbox documents. Save all your presentations, case studies, business case and other collateral material in your Dropbox, and we will give engagement analytics on who's viewing your documents, page by page analytics, downloads and average time! Let me know who's interested! [link] [comments] |
How do you feel about the use of Bots to help answer inbound leads' initial queries? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 03:52 AM PST Either for small businesses or large corporations. I've seen a rise in the use of bots to auto answer queries coming in to live chat systems on companies' websites, and also as an option for anyone to add to their Facebook business pages. Being a guy who runs their own small coaching / consultancy business now, the option sounds appealing as it could potentially make me look like I like to keep on top of current technology, and development of my business. On the other hand, I wonder if it would put people off as it might seem highly impersonal. So I'm torn as to whether to invest any time in using these tools. Thoughts, please? [link] [comments] |
Have you ever pushed too hard and pissed off a prospect? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:23 AM PST Today I had a meeting with a real estate agent. I sell corporate services, namely property valuations, and we do this for banks primarily. My role is to source new avenues of revenue using our expertise. Over the last couple of months, I hit the legal industry pretty hard because people getting divorced need their properties valued in order to settle on dividing the assets. Just this week I've turned my attention to targeting real estate agents because a valuation helps sell properties faster, through vendor management and education. After the meeting, I stopped into a few other real estate firms on the way back to the office and left my card and brochure. I emailed them and one responded saying he already has existing professional relationships with a valuation firm. Naturally I enquired further: who are they using, what their experiences have been like, and finally, (if you don't mind) what their cost is. It seems the prospect took quite an offence to this question. I was only so comfortable asking because in the legal industry, the lawyers would discuss valuation pricing very openly. I'm intending to let the prospect cool off, and I'll be calling him tomorrow to apologise. My question is, have any of you been in a similar situation, and if so, how did you handle it? I'm not overly concerned, because 99% of prospects I speak with are fine, so it's bound to happen sooner or later. I'm confident in my ability to apologise. It's strange that I'm confident because in a way, an opportunity to apologise showcases a human side. I won't be pushing for business, but keeping the channel open to future endeavours will be helpful. Would love to hear your thoughts :) [link] [comments] |
Standard commission rate for working at a People's Jewellery store? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 06:45 PM PST This would be my first job, I have been trying to google information on what kinds of bonuses/commission rates I can expect to get on sales, but have come up dry. Does anyone have any input on what I should expect? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Nov 2017 09:43 PM PST I'm a long time lurker of this sub and it has been extremely helpful in motivating me and giving me very useful advice. I am currently looking to transition into B2B sales from what I currently do ( leasing luxury apartments) and have had a lot of luck landing interviews with the advice of this sub. I got an offer today from a tech startup that I was really interested in until I heard the pay structure. It was $15 an hour plus a .50 raise for every deal closed until you cap off at $20. After that it's your hourly plus commission on a pretty low priced point item. The problem is I really like this company but think the pay structure is kind of weird and I would be taking quite a big pay cut. I am capped off on making any more than I currently am making at my current job and really want to switch to B2b. Does this sound like a fair pay structure or would you suggest looking else where. Posted: 27 Nov 2017 01:45 PM PST Hello! How are you doing? I have recently started to work at a sales ops position in a SAAS software company, we are a really small company so I am the only one working with sales ops(besides the sales director). The company uses Inbound sales to convert leads into business, I know the basics of the inbound methodology and the basics of the sales ops function, currently I am getting data based on things I read online(for example the amount of sales made by each salesperson), with that being said, I would like to learn more in order to be able to gather information that I know it will help my sales team instead of randomly getting data based on articles on the internet such as "10 graphics that every sales ops must have", so I would like to know if anyone has any resources to recommend me? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 03:38 PM PST Hello all I'm an incoming grad student who wants to try out sales. I have always been good at selling myself as an undergrad to get internship opportunities, and after reading through blogs/this subreddit, I believe its where my strengths are and something I would genuinely enjoy doing (as oppose to accounting). However, to play it safe I want to go back to school to get my Masters/CPA while working part-time in Sales to see if I like it/good at it. I was surprised to see how much the "average" retail sales consultant makes at AT&T (noted in the title) and wonder how attainable that is as a newbie. The pay would be $10-$21 an hour plus commission. The hourly wage is dependent on experience which would be $10 an hour for me assuming so because I have no experience. I would need to make anywhere from $16-$20 an hour to pay my bills (depending how much hours they give me), Would it be realistic to make this as a newbie? I am motivated and ready to read/do anything weeks before starting the position. [link] [comments] |
Best way to word an email blast? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 01:23 PM PST Thank you for taking the time and reading my post. I am currently an outside sales rep for a heavy equipment dealership. The dealership has been in business for 50 years selling a variety of heavy commercial construction equipment (I.E. excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, and backhoes). My position in the company is as a turf representative selling commercial zero turn mowers and mini walk behind skid steers. It's something my company has shied away from over its history. So for the last 7 months i have been on the road prospecting and cold calling with making little head way. I would like to do an email blast notifying our customers of the new turf business we are trying to crack. My question is what tips do you have for email blasts or any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Nov 2017 01:16 PM PST Has anybody ever done outside sales for Cpay? Just got offered a job was curious if anyone had any thoughts on it. [link] [comments] |
