We are a small manufacturing business of 7 and for the last 30 years, we have relied on paper job tickets (Envelopes) which are stuffed to the brim with printed email conversations and attachments. The work we do is extremely low-volume, typically 1-3 pieces per order, with quick turn-arounds and all of our products are manufactured to order.Recently I have grown extremely frustrated with the current operations and decided to investigate software solutions that we could implement in order to streamline our workflow. I quickly became overwhelmed by all the jargon and categories of software (ERP, MRP, CRM).

Below are a few features that we are looking for in the software package.

    • Collaborative email conversations to quickly reply to incoming emails
    • The ability to convert most of those email threads into 'work tickets' which will be passed around the team, accumulating information as they move internally.
    • Custom ticket fields that we could fill in as the ticket progressed through our pipeline.
    • The ability to tie 'work tickets' into our invoicing software (QuickBooks)
    • Long-term 'ticket' archiving for possible repeat orders

If anyone could simply point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated?

Stock photography and social media help

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 02:15 AM PST

I have a question regarding building a social media presence for a new, small business.

A tiny bit of background: I used to work in the wedding industry, when my boss split up the company and retired early. I absolutely loved my job and have been thinking of starting my own business. I have a few bits of stock I managed to buy off her and from other companies.

My main question is, am I allowed to use stock photos on my social media account, or photographs that I buy from professionals to showcase work that I can do? I understand a little about commercial licences, but I'm unsure about this scenario.

To be clear - I don't mean take stock photos and tell people "Hey, this is an event we did at the weekend!", I mean posting stock photos and saying "Hey, this is pink inspired decor with Roses as the centrepiece, we can do something similar at your event if you like this theme!"

I don't want to do anything shady or illegal, and I certainly don't want to use photographs that I can't use. Trying to build up a profile when you only have a few events under your belt is hard. If this practice is too immoral, how would one go about building up a social media profile? Anecdotes welcome!

    Any help is appreciated.

    I'm UK based.

Who's businesses have been affected by TikTok?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 10:20 PM PST

I'm interested in seeing how TikTok has changed the dynamic of marketing and how its influenced startups!

Let me know, did you create your own TikTok page, did you pay an influencer, or did your product go viral on accident? I would love to hear from you all :)

I'm looking at a small rental unit, and it says full EFRI in the advert, what does that mean? I'm in the U.K.

If you're a small business just starting out looking for extra income, DM me!

    Hello people!

I'm a young man from Europe selling products. I'm currently in need of a DHL business account for importing/exporting products from the US.

Unfortunately for me, I can't ship out more than 100kg per day - which is not enough.

Therefore! If someone is willing to offer me their DHL business account, I would be happy to pay between $1k- $1.5k a month, just for that alone. You don't have to do anything else than let me use the account.

Hope someone in here is willing to cooperate! Best regards Kevin :)

Is anyone interested in buying out my stock?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 12:50 AM PST

PLEASE DELETE IF NOT ALLOWED! I have too much stock and it's really overwhelming. Literally have boxes piled in a room and it's getting hard to find stuff so i'm looking to get rid of my older stuff. I'll be getting rid of 50 items including brands like Betsey Johnson, Fashion Nova, Hot Topic, Bebe, Vintage Mudd, + other vintage items (it WILL include this, not an if, these are the items i've put aside to send out). I can do about $150 for everything through paypal goods and services, just trying this out in case anyone is interested before i donate 😅, NO I CANNOT SEPARATE ITEMS! You can choose to replace with other items since i have well over 200 but i need to get rid of at least 50! If anyone is in the San Bernardino area i'd prefer pickup but will take what i can get.

Are there clothing manufacturers that take custom measurements?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 08:45 PM PST

I want to start a business for petite plus size people. I was wondering if there are manufactures that will take custom measurements. I want to manufacture pants with a specific measurement, but I don't really know where to begin. Does anybody know any manufactures that do this ? All responses will be greatly appreciated 💗💕!

Is your business a business of passion or money?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 08:29 PM PST

Did any of you begin a business because it was something you really loved & were passionate about?

My brother is a numbers guy & head hunts companies with potential, buys them & turns them into something the original owner only dreamt of. I envy him, but none of these companies are about anything he has a passion for or even knows anything about. His passion is money, he has cracked the code on how to make any company make money. Brags to me that it doesn't even matter what the business is, if they meet the minimum criteria, he can make magic happen.

I am the exact opposite, I lack the numbers ability but have a few passions. Things I feel strongly about & want to turn into business for no other reason than I have an inkling other people would feel the same love for them that I do.

As I'm sure it's happened to many if not most of us, I sort of fell into the business I have now, saw the window of opportunity in something i was familiar with & boom. While I've grown a love for it bc its my baby I've nurtured, its all ive ever known...im not particularly fond of it.

I day dream about the business I want to run, but when Ive spoken to people- they think it's a little nuts. My background doesn't fit with it, but im taking a page from my brothers play book & feel as though I can adapt.

If my banker brother can take a statewide niche construction trade company world wide...I can probably open up a small specialized restaurant & hang up my specialized construction trade hat. It's just a coincidence that he grew a company in my specialty 100x what it was.

My question is...did anyone start a company from a passion with no real evidence that it would do well? Even better if the evidence pointed to failure, did u do well despite that?

    Small Business Partnership Struggle

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 12:27 PM PST

My boyfriend and I are starting up a small business. We've agreed I would be manager of production and him manager of sales/marketing.

I feel guilty for having thoughts that I'm glad about being in charge production and my head thinking I'm the boss and I'm over him and I don't want to think that way or feel that way. How do I set my mind and make myself know that we are partners and neither of us can do the other part without the other person. How do I stop feeling like I'm in control of it all?

And how do I stop feeling like he doesn't do much of the work and shouldn't get as much profit? I know marketing and sales can be difficult so I think split pay between him and I is fair but I feel like my head is telling me otherwise and I feel bad for it.

How can I stop being selfish and having selfish thoughts about this? We did this together.
