Bizarrely high deductible with Lemonade Home Insurance

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 06:15 AM PST

I'm shopping for home insurance. On a whim I got a quote from Lemonade. They set my deductible to 10K and told me they couldn't go any lower. Obviously I am not going to use them. The house is 10 years old and has never had a claim and has had continuous insurance since I've owned it. My only guess is this is how they get out of paying for roofs while still providing replacement cost on everything. Why else would the deductible be so high? I've never seen that before.

    Question regarding PIP insurance.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 06:55 PM PST

Little brother had gotten into a car crash two months back and was driving without insurance, totaled his car and damaged the other persons car he hit. So he didn't have insurance and just received a letter ''We have found you to be at fault for the above motor vehicle accident. The personal injury protection is pending for our insured *name of person he hit*. The Paid to date for the PIP is $4,050.00 and pending final amount''

''Please accept this letter as a notice of our subrogration rights under'' PIP.

I'd expect he has to pay this amount back since he didn't have insurance?

    Insurance Claim logic

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 04:48 PM PST

I was involved in a car accident as a passenger and the vehicle I was in is not at fault.

I'm recovering from a TBI from the accident and have 3 insurances policies available:

    • PIP from my friend's auto insurance
    • my private insurance
    • At-fault driver's insurance

My goal is to get better and avoid administrative headaches dealing with 3 different insurance companies.

I'm thinking I should use the PIP first, then route all additional costs through my private insurance to get the care I need. I'd then take all super bills and use them to file claim against the at fault driver's insurance.

Should I go about this another way?

Question about COBRA and extending previous insurance - CA

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 09:13 PM PST

Hello, I am working to see if something is possible via COBRA and wanted to get peoples' feedback from this group.

I live and work in CA.

I switched jobs within the past month.

My insurance at my previous job ended 1/31. I neglected to secure coverage for any time past that.

With my new job, I selected new benefits BUT they don't start until 2/24. So I am not covered at the moment.

Today I went to the ER and had numerous tests done because I was very concerned about something and couldn't wait until the new benefits start.

-In theory, can I retroactively extend my previous employer's coverage as needed this month (via COBRA), as long as I pay the February premium? Even if I already selected new insurance at my new job (though it doesn't start until 2/24)?

—assuming I can extend the previous insurance (and I initiate this process tomorrow), would the coverage retroactively include my ER visit from today?

Uninsured driver not at fault - can they still claim compensation?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 08:53 PM PST

    I'm in Texas!

Helping out my friend who doesn't speak English. Got hit from behind, police report says it was the other person's fault.

Insurance company doesn't want to pay and says it's my friend's fault without proof. I think they are preying on him because his English is bad and he didn't have insurance at the time. I believe he is still owed money.

I'm calling to get more details tomorrow, but if they try to use the "well they weren't insured" thing as an excuse/threat not to pay, what can I tell them? I don't think there are any legal grounds as to why they couldn't pay, and even if they try to report my friend to the state, the insurance money would be more than the fine.

Thank you so much for the help. Also, I don't know if this matters, but he is now insured and has been for several months.

Does car insurance apply to your car? Or to any car you ever drive? Or to all eligible drivers in your household?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 08:24 PM PST

Here are 2 scenarios that made me curious, which is why I asked:

Scenario 1: Let's say I own a car but don't have insurance. My friend Pete has car insurance and I loan him my car (without mentioning anything) and he gets in a wreck.

Scenario 2: Let's say I don't currently own a car. Am I required to purchase car insurance if I want to drive someone else's car?

TL;DR: When you buy "car insurance" -- what exactly are you purchasing?

I got a bit of a fender bender on my rental

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 01:41 PM PST

So my friends and I are in Miami, I was driving and didn't see a pole in my blind spot. And got a bit of a fender bender on my car. Nothing so bad.

I used a Apple Card - I don't have personal insurance. What's the worst that can happen.

My brother and friends are telling me canceling the credit card might be best of all bets.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    What should I do?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 06:37 PM PST

I was involved in an at fault accident on Dec 23rd. Unfortunately my insurance company won't do anything because I had my vehicle on suspended coverage and didn't reinstate it right away(my dumb ass I know). I called the other's claims specialist a couple days after the incident. He told me I'll receive a letter with the amount I owe in January. However I still haven't got anything from them yet. I tried to call the same claims specialist again, but he never answers phone calls. I'm tempted to call the lady I hit and ask if she got her check from her insurance company. But I'm too nervous to do so. I'm worried they are gonna send the amount I owe straight to a collection agency. Can anyone give me a little bit Knowledge on how my type of situation would be handled? Thanks in advance!

    Looking for Homeowners Claim Advice

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 06:28 PM PST

We recently had a clog in our main sewer line which resulted in a significant amount of sewage in our basement (the clog was on our property and not in the City main). We've had the basement cleaned and the damaged portions demo'd.

Fortunately we did not have too much damage to personal property, but most of the carpet and walls of the entire basement have been damaged and partially removed.

I just learned that we've been assigned an independent adjuster. Any advice as we start this process?

    Double health insurance policies?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 06:25 PM PST

    Hi all,

I currently have a federal employee health benefits plan from Company A, which does not cover fertility treatments, which I need.

The state in which I live, however, mandates insurers cover fertility treatments, and Company A therefore has plans for purchase on the state health exchange.

Can I enroll in said plan from my state exchange and have two simultaneous policies from Company A? Or does any secondary insurance I pick need to be from another company?

    Thanks in advance!

Question about girlfriend moving in and auto insurance

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 06:09 PM PST

Hello All, My longtime girlfriend is going to move into my house soon and I'm curious how it will affect my insurance rates. We are both 30, Florida, and I have a perfect driving record and own my home. She has gotten about 3 speeding tickets in the last 5 years. If she moves into my house and retains her own SEPARATE auto policy, is their any chance my insurance will be affected as a resident of my property?

How do I prove that my storage unit's lock was picked?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 04:52 PM PST

Long story short, I temporarily stored most of my belongings into a storage unit for around 4 months. After moving it in, I did not return to it for around 3 months and during that time, it seems that someone picked my lock and stole several thousands dollars worth of my belongings. I submitted an insurance claim with these photos (https://imgur.com/a/UkCVUSx) as evidence of someone breaking in and it was denied on the grounds that there was no evidence of anyone tampering with the lock.

I bought this lock strictly to use for this storage unit. There are blatant scratches all over the face of the of the lock and I barely even accessed it myself. The storage facility has been unable to find when it occurred. What more can I do? I feel like I am being totally screwed over here...

Filed claim and got approved from Geico last October. Still waiting on a part for the repair to finish.

Can we switch insurances right now even though the repair isn't finished ? Geico rates have gone up for us. The body shop is waiting on the part and did all the legwork for approval etc.

Should I enroll in the driving habit tracking program?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 07:58 AM PST

Shopping my car insurance around and there seems to be an up front discount for having a tracker in my car for 6 months.

Does this save most people money? Assuming I'm a generally safe driver? Will they share the data if I switch to another company if I don't like how the rates increase?

Does anyone have recommendation for a provider as well? Do travel credit cards offer this long of coverage?

Geico changed auto insurance policy without notice Massachusetts

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 01:45 PM PST

I purchased a new car in Oct and swapped my insurance over to it. I paid the difference in coverage cost since it was a newer vehicle. The person on the phone confirmed that it would be the same policy and that I could pay it with my next months bill. I did not receive a new policy email, mail, or phone call. Since there wasn't a change in policy terms I didn't expect a whole new policy anyway, and if there was a change I expected them to contact me for consent to change. Yesterday I got into an accident and contacted my insurance. I asked them to confirm my $/day for a rental and they told me that I didn't have rental on my policy. After two days of back and forth they found that when I swapped cars they changed my policy and took off rental. Now I am without a vehicle, they will not cover or reimburse and they "don't keep recorded calls past 60 days" to see that the woman I spoke to confirmed no changes to my policy. They also didn't confirm dates of written notice or attempted contact to let me know of my policy change (because they didn't!). The supervisor also said they don't have to obtain my verbal/written consent to change my policy.

I am now without a vehicle, ride-share vehicles are slim to non where I live and public transportation is not reliably available nor possible to utilize with on-call work hours.

    Please advise, TIA!

Cash settlement lower than body shop estimate

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 08:59 AM PST

Apologies in advance as I'm not super insurance savvy. My car got hit while parked and got some minor damage to the rear left of the car. I am thinking of just taking the cash settlement because I can live with the minor damage. I took the car to a major reputable body shop (insurance also has them as a preferred shop) and got an estimate. Then I filed a claim with the persons insurance who hit me, and uploaded the estimate. I asked for a cash settlement and they said I need to go through their app which takes pictures of the damage, and the estimate comes in at $700, compared to the $900 from the body shop. Am I SOL and have to take the $700 instead of $900?

    Help with understanding health insurance

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 07:17 AM PST

This is my first time having insurance as a adult and I'm confused on how much I will have to pay for doctor vists. My deductible is $1,500. Does this mean I will have out of pocket until I reach that amount?

Do you have to pay out of pocket if you are at fault in wrecking an exotic car worth well over $100k when you carry 100/300/100?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2022 11:41 AM PST

Suppose you smash a $500k car? Will you be on the hook for the remaining $400k after your ins kicks in $100k? What typically happens in these situations? I imagine the exotic car owner has collision, but if they aren't at fault, wouldn't they go after you before paying collision? Also, who is the influencing force in deciding whether or not they go after you for compensation...is it the car owner or their ins provider? I'd imagine their ins provider would do anything to avoid covering the collision cost to the damaged/totaled exotic car. If they know another driver was at fault and said driver has money, wouldn't they at least attempt to get compensated that way first, before covering the damages themselves?

20 Year Term Life Expiring, new 6 month Premium went up 1250% to $2,800: $5600 per year for $400K Coverage, with yearly premium increases.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2022 08:08 PM PST

So it was nice to have a 20 year term life, but now I am 20 years older, and the insurer is increasing the new 1st year premium by 12.5 times to $5,600 per year. Is this even worth it? Obviously, I need to shop around, but this option doesn't require any EOI, and with high BP, I wonder if this is the best route to go.
