Should I go and try putting my business online??

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:15 PM PST

I grew up and was raised by my aunt Sofia. I remember she would always bring me to the yoga fitness center, where they would do yoga and sometimes Zumba as well. I was 11 years old when I dreamed of having my own fitness studio center. It was a rough path but with hard work and perseverance, I was able to achieve that 4 months ago after working 2 jobs and some part-time jobs as well for 8years and 3 months. I'm currently having second thoughts and doubts now that this pandemic will go on for a little longer and others are also afraid to go out. I'm willing to try other things to just save what I started. A friend of mine told me that I could try and put my business online like on social media. I don't have any idea how to start and what I need to do before everything else. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm a bit scared that my business won't do well and I'm quite desperate to push things through. I'd be happy to read all your advice and critiques ~ All will be appreciated, Thanks so much in advance.

This is for Aunt Sofia for igniting the fire in me to never quit and to always focus on your goal.

I sell macrame but I also blog about how to do macrame. Not sure how to reconcile these two things on social media.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:09 AM PST

I sell macrame on Etsy. But as I said, I also blog about how to do macrame. So my customers of my Etsy are not those who are likely to use my blog and vice versa. I eventually want to make money from my blog (probably mostly through ads or maybe even sell some printables) but I am unsure of my approach to social media like Instagram and Facebook. I have two different audiences essentially. Do I both promote my products and my blog posts? It seems like polar opposites.

Building customers loyalty through SMS reminders?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:38 PM PST

    Hello everybody!

I've just recently started my small business. I know it's a bit too early to think about it, but I would like to think about specific steps in advance. So, as you can guess already, I've created this thread to talk about gaining customers loyalty. Besides, I would like to talk about efficient marketing techniques to gain long-term customer loyalty.

For instance, recently, I came across a service that basically allows you to forward SMS to slack. It made me think of the SMS marketing technique as a general one. The reason for that is nowadays, we see dozens of different ads and promotions. Besides, I've read somewhere that we notice only 1-2% out of everything posted. It's like a drop in the ocean. So, how can a startup become noticeable among sharks of the businesses? Small businesses and startups have to compete somehow with giant retailers.

Before reading about SMS marketing, I seriously considered going through email marketing the old and traditional way. But I need to be honest, at least with myself. I barely open emails that I receive from different stores. Their subject line needs to be outstanding and eye-catching to make me want to open that email. The rest of them I find uninteresting and dull. So, I just deleted them.

Overall I get 80-90 promotional emails daily. So, you know approximately the open ratio of those emails. Besides, some of them became really annoying. I just mark them as spam. But, if this technique doesn't work on me, why should I even bother myself trying to implement it in my own business?

Don't you find SMS marketing way more efficient for that purpose? As for me, when I hear an SMS notification, I unconsciously grab my phone and read it. Please note I'm talking mainly about SMS and not other messengers. So, if I send short SMS reminders to my existing customers, will it help me build loyal relationships with my clients?

Thoughts on a Canadian based Cat Boutique?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:04 AM PST

I've noticed recently that in Canada it's very difficult to find products specifically for cats and the ones you DO find can be a bit boring.

I had a light bulb pop into my head that I should open an online boutique catering to felines and their paw-rents. The idea would basically be to eventually wholesale basic items, but offer customizable options for alot of things as well, so if you dont want just a plain white bowl, or a boring grey cat tree, designs can be added or even a fully customized tree can be built for example, a friend who is very into DND said it would amazing to be able to have a custom cat tree built based on their DND tavern, including initial design sketches etc. (I have a background in digital art and am very good and making things with my hands)

I feel like this would be a great way to create a startup with very little capital costs, as most of it at the start can be done to order once I already have the funds, or a deposit of some sort from the customer.

I've actually already secured a domain and started building out a website, but wanted some feedback on the viability of the business idea and if it is something anyone would even be interested in! +any advice for someone who is BRAND new to this world.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Family business transitions difficult

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:11 AM PST

Hello, my parents are wanting to sell my siblings and I their business. The family dynamic is very unhealthy between our father who is the current owner/operator. He has ran the business on his own terms for almost 20 years with poor management skills, and although the business is profitable from what he says, it has become unmanageable for him due to lack of organization/leadership and stunted growth. There are a few siblings involved in day to day operations. I am having a hard time deciding on whether or not to buy in. There are hardly any boundaries in my immigrant family to be honest and no boundary between family and business matters. My parents came to this country with nothing and built their business from scratch. I know my dad will be 100% upset if one of us decide not be involved, but he is extremely controlling and not open to new ideas and I am afraid that succession will not only be a struggle, but near impossible because of the way he handles business and personal matters. I don't want to feel indebted to my parents forever because they will do an owner carry loan where we pay them monthly for a set amount of years, and the line of money/business and relationships can get blurry. I also dont want money to get in the way of my good relationships between my siblings and I. I realize this could be a good opportunity for additional income for me. I am already successfully settled in my own career and this money would be extra. Torn..

Hello, asking for a friend who is a contracting admin for several health and well being offices. How does she receive work calls and texts from home when cell phone needs to stay at the offices for staff use? She wants the option to work from home but can't figure out the tech involved. Can someone point her in the direction to education, applications, possibly solutions she can look into? TIA

The content of a future job ad.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:17 AM PST

Starting a business soon-ish, thinking about what to put on a job advertisement.

Initially I'll want just one employee, but eventually two. The first position can be described as "driver".

Here's how the workflow...works: customer shows with their vehicle they want stored, Driver is given the keys, Driver parks it where they can in the facility, Driver writes down the spot and tags the keys.

Then, weeks/months later customer comes back, Driver goes and gets their vehicle.

That's it, if there's no customer its just downtime because I don't believe in busywork, I suspect the position in question will only provide 5 hours of work in the 40 hour workweek. I'll of course pay them while we wait for customers but how should I phrase this once I make a job advertisement?

Also for insurance purposes the person I hire needs to have a none-expired Class B license.

I am stuck and need help expanding my father’s brick and mortar’s niche business

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:00 AM PST

Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice on how to take my father's ( one-man band ) company to another level.

Here is a back story. Main products are erosion control blankets to provide excellent soil retention capacity. They also offer installation and consultations.

He does have contractors who do the installations but the business is limited to home country and since this is a niche product and business category, I am finding it hard figuring out how to attract new costumers.

In the past majority of projects were aquired by public tenders or word of mouth.

What I would like to do is modernize a company and reach more potential customers.

First idea is to make better social presence ( creating IG account and Linkedin page, Facebook is already active ) but other than that, I am lost.

    Any advice?

Forming Texas LLC - registered agent question

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 05:37 AM PST

I recently moved to Colorado but want to form an LLC in Texas for an online resale business. I'm not sure how long I will live in CO/might move around the next few years (I'm young and nomadic OKAY), but plan is to make Texas home base once I settle since my family is there, so that's my reasoning for want to form in Texas.

I've done a lot of research on TX registered agents, but am reading conflicting things about whether it's worth it to pay the fees for a RA that provides more comprehensive services (Northwest, Harbor, etc.) versus a cheaper RA option. Does anyone have experience/advice/etc. on how to choose a registered agent?

What questions would you ask your business idol?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2022 09:59 PM PST

My partner was granted a meeting with his biggest business idol, someone who is in his industry. It's a 30 minute video interview. How would you make the most of this time? What are some questions or information you would ask of a dream mentor? We have many lined up but I really want to stay open-minded see how others would approach this opportunity.

Questions/Advicf about licenses and other legal things

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 12:08 AM PST

I'm 23 and I live in New Mexico, USA and I do illustrations for a living and I feel like i'm out of my depth trying to figure out what all I need to apply for to make sure I can't get into legal trouble for making $2000 a year on art 🙃

Do I need to apply as an LLC? If so, where do I do that? Do I need a sales license? If I get a sales license, do I still need to apply as an LLC?

Sorry for coming to reddit for this stuff, but I genuinely don't even know where to begin. 😔

edit: sorry for the typo in the title, I was hoping to figure this out before going to bed but it seems I was wrong

Question about Paychex W-2’s sent to employees

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:54 AM PST

Hi, so this year was our first year using paychex as a p/r provider and they sent all our employee w-2's to our location to mail out ourselves instead of having paychex mail them to the employees. My question is:

Does this mean any end of year tax forms we send to the IRS need to be done manually or should Paychex have sent in our wage records and other required forms at the end of the year? Paychex customer service is hard to get a hold of…
