One of my employees are being harassed by an ex partner Posted: 25 Jan 2022 01:14 PM PST I own a nail salon, and my location isn't the best, so I rely heavily on Google reviews. One of my employees split from her husband. Now he's leaving bad reviews saying that we offer "happy endings". My business partner is saying to get rid of her, but I feel that it's not right to fire her for something beyond her control. At the same time, it's going to affect my business. I've contacted Google and hope they can remove it. I want to keep her as an employee. Can someone help me with my options in this case? Thank you!! EDIT- popular answer is get a lawyer. How much would something like this cost? EDIT- after everyone's help, I am going to help her get a lawyer, and her job is secure. I'll be firm with my business partner on making sure she keeps her job. Thanks for everyone helping me with advice and perspective on my moral compass [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2022 02:14 AM PST TDLR; I recently checked the online shop I made and I saw an automatically cancelled order. For the first time, I started a small sticker business a few months back and only had one sale in that span (my friend bought a set), I rarely check the site ( maybe twice a week only?) since I was also busy with some other stuff and didn't expect any sale since I haven't advertised it widely yet and haven't had any sales for weeks. Today, I saw an automatically cancelled order (it was cancelled since I wasn't able to ship it out within 3 days, I wasn't able to check the site in those 3 days), I feel bad for failing to do so. It wasn't a big order, just a single item, but I feel bad that I wasn't able to even do anything about it, but to see it cancelled. :( The site doesn't really require communication with the customers since most of it goes through an automated process. But should I DM the buyer and ask them if they still want it? I don't really want to seem pushy with it since it's my fault anyway, but I feel bad that I wasn't even able to notice their order. This is the only order I had in months and I failed it. [link] [comments] |
I opened a bank account in my business' name Posted: 24 Jan 2022 10:04 PM PST I just did it the other day. I can buy stuff in the name of my business. My business can make a purchase. This is so cool. [link] [comments] |
Town zoning indicates I can't have employees at my home business Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:31 PM PST My town zoning law states the following: "No person who is not residing on the premises shall be employed in any home occupation." I run an online store and have an "under the table employee" that helps me with packing and shipping. I want to put him on the books, but it sounds like technically I'm not allowed to have an employee at my home business since he doesn't live here. I'm not worried about my neighbors calling the town on me at all - the kid comes a couple times a week for a few hours and there's no disturbances. Plus I get along great with my neighbors. But if he's "on the books" and my home address is the registered business address with the state, do I need to worry about the town being notified through other (more official) channels? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:56 AM PST 2 years ago I was hired as a Custodian ("Janitor if you wanna be a dick about it") Cleaned shitters everyday for 10 months and loved it. My boss was amazing, the work was easy, I sued their ass. Wasn't given even a fraction of what I was worth or owed but it is what it is. I have a firm stand on NOT going back to a regular 9-5. I want to continue this journey working for myself. So now when the check arrives in 30-60 days I plan on starting my own cleaning business. I've ran my own t shirt/music brand for a few years and have made decent profits, I will take what I learned from all of this and start my own cleaning service. Startup 2-5k I'd appreciate any feedback positive or negative. I'll do my best to read and do my own DD like with any investment I just would really love to hear from this amazing group of hustlers. Thanks again for your input. Blessup! [link] [comments] |

Here Is How You Can Determine The Market Value Of Your Small Business Posted: 26 Jan 2022 04:56 AM PST A business valuation is a process of calculating the monetary value of a company by taking into account such details as operating assets, intangible assets, and cash flow. When you have an accurate idea of what your company is worth, you can leverage each new success and make informed decisions. [link] [comments] |
Hey guys, i am opening up two firms which operate under the same name but do different things. Posted: 26 Jan 2022 03:36 AM PST The two firms operate from one office with one phone. Eg Abc realestate Abc developments My question is - does this make the two firms a group ? Eg abc group Im asking to see how i should identify the firm over the phone Eg -hi its Matt from abc group Also, i do not know how it works in other countries but over here we do not need to open a company and can work under an individual's tax number So these two firms are not registered as companies that is why i am not sure if i can use group since it technically isn't Thanks for your help in advance! Recommendation for on demand call answering service Posted: 26 Jan 2022 03:30 AM PST We have enough people to answer the phones but recently with people being out sick and/or on vacation I realize we need a backup for when we are short staffed. Does anyone recommend an on demand call answering service? Only ones I can find require a monthly subscription even if you don't use them. I am looking for someone I can sporadically turn to for professional call answering. [link] [comments] |
Advice welcome! Tips on growth. Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:21 PM PST Hi everyone! Very happy to have found this subreddit and wanted to ask for advice. I started a company 2 years ago and it's been going really well for the most part. I'm a Venetian plaster contractor and I love what I do. I built a decent business but want to keep pushing and where I always get hung up is scheduling and organizing my leads. Some weeks i put in 70 hours and then the following week comes and I work 3 days because a client postpones. Some weeks I get overwhelmed and forget to call people back and some weeks I'm so on top of it. before I posted this I checked and I have 35 potential clients. 12 confirmed. Lots of in between days and those in between days are what's bugging me because I know I could be more efficient in my scheduling but don't know how. Is there a system people use that works? Perhaps something along the lines of a checklist for where a client is at in your process? And what about for the mental side is there something you all do to help yourself power through? Or any tips for staying on top of phone calls and texts? I'm really open to any advice on new business ownership, Any books, whatever. I don't have much, if any, proper business training and just want to get down the "office side" of things.. Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
Buying a cash flowing business vs real estate Posted: 25 Jan 2022 11:00 PM PST Hey Reddit, Between buying a cash flowing business and real estate which one is better? I know there are pros and cons but I think I lean to buying a business as I would buy one where I would hire a GM and then pay him/her a salary to run the day to day and I collect the rest of the cash flow. Real estate is good and I will definitely invest once I have enough disposable cash but I think to build up the cash faster I think investing in businesses with a proven model for cash is both easier and has higher margins and return on investment. Please let me know your thoughts! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:50 PM PST Hello! I am new to this thread and wanted some help to understand what I can do to get more traffic. I own a candle and fragrance company and market on Facebook, Etsy, and Google. They get some clicks and my Shopify store has had around 100 clicks since launch last week but I wanted to know how to market better or if there is any advice on how to get more traffic to a website in a legit way. I would appreciate any sort of advice I can get. www.edinfragrance.com is my website if you wanted to check it out and let me know any advice or changes to it. I'm open to any criticism if it will be able to help me in the long run. [link] [comments] |
Should we cut our operating hours down? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:48 PM PST I run a small plumbing business, we have 6 technicians working in teams of two. We've always been a 24/7 business, which I think was fine for a while, but lately we've been so busy and I'm starting to wonder if we should cut our operating hours from 24/7 to something like 8AM-8PM so we don't burn our guys out. Teams rotate being on-call for each week day, then one team will have the entire weekend. On an average week night, we usually get 0 or 1 after hours calls as most customers will opt to wait until regular hours when our rates are cheaper, but on rare busy nights they can get up to 3 or so and it can be quite exhausting. I handle phones after hours, which is exhausting for me, but we use an answering service when I sleep and I'm not really happy with their service honestly. Customers also often tell them it's an emergency so they get patched through to the technician, but then once they confirm the price with the technician they cancel as it's too high or just reschedule for regular hours since it's not that urgent after all. Personally, I'm a fan of abandoning the on-call all together for week days after 8PM or so. I think it would improve our technician's quality of life. The downside is that some of our regular customers may then be forced to call other companies if we aren't available and they need a plumber that night. Alternatively, we're considering just increasing our prices significantly, but that may have a similar effect. Any advice from companies that have been or are 24/7? If we do continue staying open 24/7, do you have any advice on a system to manage after hours calls to filter only serious emergencies? [link] [comments] |
How do I deal with this situation? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:46 PM PST So to keep it somewhat short, I started an auto detailing business, it became fairly successful, my parents saw that and they bought a shop, so, I suppose you can say that I sold them the brand. I ended up putting in $10,000 to help them open the shop, because they had told me they would repay me it by the beginning of January, I did this for two reasons. First reason being I didn't want to see the brand I built die (I was going off to college so I couldn't focus on it), and the second, I wanted to help out my parents, and I saw no harm as long as I'd get paid back for it. Now enough backstory, here we are today and I still have not been paid back anything, I STILL to this day manage ALL the marketing and bringing customers into the business, and not only that, but I also help to detail the vehicles whenever I am free (usually help with 3-4 cars a week). All this and they pay me such a minuscule amount that I'd be better off spending my time elsewhere. Now I do have a job so this isn't my only source of income but it's quite upsetting that I practically loaned them $10000 at no charge, and continually help with the business and I just feel like I've lost so much. What do I do?? If I demand my $10000, knowing them they'll throw a fit and just sell the shop altogether, but at the same time it just seems like I'm losing because that's money and time I could've invested elsewhere. I appreciate all that read this and those that reply! [link] [comments] |

Starting an Electrical Staffing Agency Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:35 PM PST Hi everyone! I'm currently looking into starting my own electrical staffing agency. I see a large demand for licensed electricians, because I myself am one. My current employer has a shortfall in licensed electricians so they find themselves going to staffing agencies to meet their needs for skilled labor. I have a good reputation in the company and know a lot of licensed electricians who work through staffing agencies or for other contractors. I mentioned starting my own staffing agency and providing temp electricians for us and they said that would be something they would be interested in doing. I have a LLC in place, and it I use it to do electrical work on the side. My business name has Electrical Services as part of the name. I do not have an EIN yet but will be getting one. I didn't know if anyone has experience in this field, and I had a few questions if so. Is it best to 1099 temp employees? If not what is a better option? Is insurance needed? do I need to pay workman's comp? Can I get a small business loan to get started to cover payroll costs? I have some money in my personal savings but if this were an option I'd rather do so, because I can pay it back quickly based off of what I make off of each person I have staffed. It's my understanding I would be paid out on a monthly basis but would pay guys weekly. Is there anything I should make sure I add to contracts or anything? I will offer a per diem rate, is there anything I should be aware of in doing so? After talking to a few people I work with the company usually gets charged 90-125 dollars per hour for a licensed guy, and talking with several guys I know that go through staffing agencies for employment make anywhere from 34-55$ per hour depending on the state they are working in (some states are much harder to obtain a license in). If I were to staff guys on my current site I would be looking at charging 100 per hour per licensed electrician, and paying between 32-40$ per hour. Sorry there are a lot of questions, I tried to give as much info as I could think of, but if you need more details I can try to explain further! Thank you everyone! [link] [comments] |
As a the only employee & sole proprietor of my woodworking business.. Posted: 25 Jan 2022 02:19 PM PST Are there any government grants I can take advantage of to help me really get my business off the ground? Looking for funds to build an actual workshop instead of working out of a garage and possibly get some much needed larger tools. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2022 04:56 PM PST We have been in business now for five years in a major city in Canada and our business seems like it is just not growing. We have approached small business around the area to see if we can service their needs but it seems like a waste of time. We are online with 4 stars google reviews and we pay for google ads about $300-500 a month for traffic but it just seems like there is no growth. It is a small family run company with about 25 vehicles. I know with Covid things have slowed for everyone. I'm wondering if there is anything else I'm missing to help me grow our family business. We cater to locals for retail business and we do have some tourists that reserve with us also. I'm basically looking for help in regards to growth and advertising. Thanks in advance. Posted: 25 Jan 2022 10:27 PM PST Great day to everyone! I had an Idea of printing medical related terminology into flashcards with my own notes in reference, do you think it's a good Idea or is it under copyright? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2022 06:17 PM PST Hi, I was hoping some of you could offer some insight. I'm a biohazard remediation specialist (mould, sewage, trauma etc) currently working for a restoration company. For the last couple years I've dreamed of starting my own business doing what I do. The biggest problem is money: I have none. And in this industry there is a lot of expensive equipment needed to start. Enter the business plan for attempting to get a loan. I've started a business plan a few years ago and put it on the back burner because of one major hurdle: the financial part of it. My question (my first one for now at least) is how do you find out what your competitors are making, charging etc and how do you even come up with an estimate on earnings when everyone is so secretive? Are there any solid resources you know of that I can go and do some digging and find out what people charge for this type of work? As the technician I've never been on the payment end of things so I have no idea what to charge, how much I could potentially make etc. Any feedback is helpful. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2022 08:02 PM PST Find what you are passionate about. How? I don't know. Try different fields and different kinds of jobs (meaning desk job or working with your hands, creating or whatever). It's not easy to find your passion, but it is totally worth it. Try something out and see if it gets you excited and amped up to work. Work is good, work should lead to happiness. You should not dread going to work. Most people are happiest when they have good work / life balance The other reason passion = success is that if you are passionate about your work, it will come through to your customers or potential customers. If you don't like your job, that will come across to others as well. Additionally, you don't need to find your dream job immediately when you enter the work force. It is very unlikely that you will. take your time, learn about yourself. Figure out what you're passionate about. I had a 20 year career in finance and I wasn't passionate about it, so I didn't do very well (its not a direct correlation, but somewhat). Now, I detail cars and I love it and I'm having more fun in my work than I ever thought I could. My daughter loves babysitting so she and a friend started a summer camp and they're doing great, it sells out very quickly every summer. I have a friend that makes custom shoes and he's killing it. Find your passion. [link] [comments] |
Wedding/Event planner software or online programs to help organize and streamline business Posted: 25 Jan 2022 07:50 PM PST My wife owns an event planning business where currently she primarily is doing weddings but hoping to expand soon into commercial etc. She is growing to the point where she is looking at some sort of program that will help her organize clients and create a platform which she can have a centralized hub of information for her and her clients. Hoping to include payments, schedule, timeframe, updates on contracts, etc. Anyone have any experience with such a thing that can help guide her in her search? [link] [comments] |
