Posted: 02 Jan 2022 09:25 AM PST I'm excited and wanted to share this with someone. The firm is closed for the holiday so I can't spread the news at work. It feels kinda unreal still. [link] [comments]
Has becoming an accountant changed the way you think about debt? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 02:03 PM PST Over the holidays a relative said to me that an accountant once told them to get into as much debt as possible, providing you'll know you'll definitely be able to make the minimum payments, citing that debt should be thought of as a tool which lets you live above your means. Personally I think this sounds like nonsense. However, it did make me curious as to whether accountants tend to think differently about debt relative to the general population? [link] [comments]

Anybody teach at a community college? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 04:45 PM PST I'm a first year associate in public accounting with usual plan to put in my 2-4 years and then hopefully exit to an industry position making ~100k. However, I always loved the idea of teaching. I wouldn't want to be a tenure professor because I don't want to do the research part of the job and sacrificing 4 years of income for the PhD doesn't seem worth it. Teaching at a community college is something that seems interesting because I'd get to teach and it seems like a pretty easy gig. Even if teaching accounting at a CC doesn't pay much I've been thinking about planning on doing that after 15-20 years of climbing the corporate ladder to just coast. If anybody has experience in this and can tell me a little about it I would appreciate it. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Book recommendations all accountants should read Posted: 02 Jan 2022 06:54 AM PST Are there any good nonfictional books I can look into reading that you think accountants should read. I don't mean like a learning textbook for exam, just looking for something that will be interesting. I'm about to start 75hard (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a physical/mental challenge and one of the rules is reading 10 pages of a nonfictional book everyday) so I'm looking for any ideas you may have [link] [comments]
Having anxiety due to Busy Season at Big 4 firm Posted: 03 Jan 2022 03:28 AM PST I am the only one having anxiety from the thought of going through busy season? It will be my first busy season (from January to April) and I found that from Sep to Dec, I was pretty busy. So I honestly can't imagine going through busy season and being okay mentally. I am not looking forward to it at all! Working at a big 4 is quite stressful and after a few months in, I realized that I don't like being an auditor … I don't enjoy it at all. So having to go through busy season knowing that I don't like what I do for work will be hard. Thank you for reading my little rant 😩😩😩 [link] [comments]

How is the route of Real estate accountant? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 09:25 PM PST Hello professonals, I'm a senior college student who lives in NYC, I saw from Indeed that real estate accountants are generally paid better than other accountants at same year of experiences, so I wonder if real estate accounting jobs are really this good why aren't many people choose this route? I don't feel public accounting firm is for me after I finished my internship in a small PA..Anyone who working or worked in Real estate company can you give me more insights of this route? How diffcult is the skills you are required to master to do the job and hour/salary IRL? Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
Enough about the busy season, I have a question about the "slow" season? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:14 AM PST As a senior student in college getting ready to do a summer internship before I go for my master's, I feel like I've read a million posts about the busy season. But I'm curious what the rest of the year is like for you people in PA. My questions are:
Since I tricked you into reading this far, I have some questions about the busy season as well. Here they are:

Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:29 PM PST I'm a sophomore getting my bachelors in accounting and some of my classmates use LinkedIn for networking but I am just plain confused, it seems people are either very engaging or complete ghosts. How else do I network? My college is online, and I'm thinking of trying to get into one of those society things because they say there's huge opportunity for networking but is that for real? Questions about Wiley exam prep for CMA exam. Is it actually incomparable? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:04 AM PST For both parts, is the Wiley prep really too easy compared to the actual CMA exam? I've read a lot of posts in this subreddit saying the questions were a lot harder. I finished about 80% of the practice test banks and 80-85% on practice exams, am I screwed? I exclusively used wiley. Also I heard thst the essay parts were also hard. Can anyone confirm? [link] [comments]

Why is starting out in this industry so hard compared to other industries? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 06:02 PM PST Every time I'm on Reddit, people always shit on accountants and even in this space too! They say their jobs aren't hard compared to everything else in business (utter bullshit) and that we deserve to be paid less because "aUdiT iSnT hArD!" I cannot wrap my head around having to work weekends during a busy season at a paltry 71k a year, while nurses, any other finance job, sales, and even some marketers all start out with higher salaries and arguably work LESS! Nervous, tomorrow is my first day, any tips? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 11:59 AM PST I'm a little nervous since tomorrow is my first day. I'll be working remotely in the tax field for a big 4 company. The first day seems like just setting up the remote access and setting up in general with the first-day guide. Like when it comes to the work, I won't know what to do or look stupid. I feel like I remember little bits of stuff from the past 4 years, but not a lot. Also, I took a 3-week break from working. So I'm a little bummed that I have to work since I've been enjoying my hobbies and started stuff like making a youtube channel. I know it's irrelevant but this could be a reason as well. Any words of encouragement? [link] [comments]

Final round interview for FP&A Posted: 03 Jan 2022 03:50 AM PST After 3 gruelling rounds of interviews including a case study and technical test on new year's eve.... I've been selected to have a final interview. How should I go about this final interview? Should I repeat questions that I have asked earlier? I've felt that I've already asked most of the questions I wanted to know in the earlier interviews. It is a MNC in the shipping industry. [link] [comments] |
