Start a career in SAAS sales

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 06:09 PM PST

I'm no expert but have only recently gone through the process of going from a none saas Job in B2C to a Saas AE/AM role in 2 ish months.

I do have a little around 5-6 years of B2C sales experience in various industries and roles but I twisted it all to be relevent for the SaaS industry.

For example I was an F&I manager at a dealership for 2 years, which was a pure negotiating and closing role that thaught me a lot of my hard sales skills and showed how it can correlate with a similar position like an AE.

I sent out hundreds and I mean hundred of application to AE roles through Indeed and LinkedIn that were only account executive positions.

And next is the interview process (god damn tedious with some of these companies that make you do 4-5 interviews) but even if I didn't like it I went through it all to get an idea of the interview process and most questions that come up so I knew what to say at the interview for a different company and the rest was selling myself.

And lastly got 4 offers extended to me (3 AE roles and one hybrid AE/AM role) 2 starts ups and 2 big tech companies... leveraged the shit out of those offers which got my initial salary of 50k up to 65k and then final role I took got me to 70k base+5k sign on bonus and 110k ote (uncapped commission) as a AE/AM at a startup

Those are the steps I took and hopefully helps you do the same also check out Aspireship they give you training to do saas sales and if you pass their course they help place you with their partners in saas sales (they got me a great job but took the best one I got on my own)

Best of luck everyone for 2022!

A Salesman With Terrible Social Anxiety Outside Of Sales

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 07:15 AM PST

Not sure how to phrase this, or if this is the right place to be asking. Essentially when selling things to strangers I'm outgoing, charismatic, and have experienced magnitudes of success in the 13 years I've been in sales. However, when I'm in a social setting around friends I am very introverted and nervous. I've always justified it as I can connect better with strangers when selling them a product because the product itself is the icebreaker or their reason to even be interacting with me. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so can it be overcame?

Should I be applying for SDR or AE positions in tech sales if I have management experience at a restaurant?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 08:28 PM PST

I've read some people say if you have general management experience you should apply for AE positions but I'm not sure. I'm trying to get into SaaS but don't want to waste my time applying for the wrong positions.

    It’s a Wonderful Life

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 06:54 PM PST

Evening everyone, we're approaching EOY and one of my favorite traditions is watching It's a Wonderful Life around this time. I work on an annual goal approach(not quarterly) so it's a good reset button for looking back on things and being thankful for everything I have. I feel like we can all relate to George Bailey as a "business man".

Everyone's role is stressful in its own way. Take some time off, reflect, spend time with friends and family. At the end of the day that's what's important. Also, watch the movie if you haven't.

Merry Christmas and good luck in 2022!

My favorite time of the year is the next 3 months because it catapults me into the remaining 9 months. What are your goals for this next year?

    Need SaaS Interview Advice

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 04:28 PM PST

Hey all, I'm interviewing at a few SaaS sales companies I'm really interested in. They mostly deal with legal compliance of some sort. I'm doing an asessment where I find a few potential prospects, create a template and identify who I would reach out to at the company, which is a test I've gotten for a few roles. I have a few specific questions, and I'm also open to any general advice.

    - Is there usually a specific person or team you reach out to sell a SaaS product? If it's relevant to the legal department specifically, how do you identify who handles that within a corporate structure and find that person's contact info?

    - What are sales managers looking for in an email template? I'm used to a few types of cold email but curious how to stand out

    - How do you get a prospects attention through email without being corny/inauthentic or using these old sales tropes?

    SaaS vs Non SaaS

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 09:38 PM PST

I see a lot of posts about this. The consensus seems to be that selling SaaS is drastically different than selling a perpetual license, or some other not SaaS alternative. Curious what people think the biggest differences are. Specifically how those differences affect a sales person's ability to succeed in one vs the other.

Are there any MLOs here. How is your OTE, etc.

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 07:24 PM PST

I'm interested in becoming an MLO but I'm wondering how the earnings, is be able to make above that 200k mark and above solely based on making a book of clients being real estate agents that will constantly bring you a flow of loans needed?

Goal to be AE for a saas company eventually. Would it be better to start with an SDR job at a saas company OR take an account manager job at a company that sells hardware?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 02:13 PM PST

Trying to get into sales and want to be an AE in a saas company.

I have an opportunity for an account manager job selling tech hardware. Should i instead look for a SDR job in a saas company? Which would be the better route?

Is anyone here in the solar sales industry in the DFW area?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 06:53 PM PST

Next summer, I want to begin a full time sales role, and one industry I am considering is Solar. From what I understand, the tax credit will be reduced to 22% and so the incentive to buy solar panels will be reduced.

How is the Dallas solar market looking? Anyone currently in it that's struggling? I'm still seeing a lot of job offers so I'm not sure if that's any indication of the current market condition. I'd appreciate any advice/insight.

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 10:17 PM PST

Trying to see if a pattern exists so if possible please answer the following:

Position(BDR/AE/AM/etc): Quota(monthly/yearly and %/$): Base salary: Commission: Other bonuses: Industry(tech/manufacturing/etc): What do you sell: Stress level (1-10): Vacation time taken per year:

    Thanks!

How did covid impact how many sales you made?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 05:43 PM PST

Especially those in solar or hvac or similar b2c roles (but also everyone else), did covid cause a noticeable dent in your annual income? Did you experience more challenges?

Which is better: AE, Management, or Enterprise, and why/for whom?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 09:01 PM PST

These are the 3 career paths our ISRs can take over time. I'm a newbie so uhhhh I'm a long time away from anything, but I don't know much about either of these 3 and would love to have your insight. I never expected that I'd be here in sales, but there was no financial growth opportunities in education (I got paid as much as our vice principal, principal made like $60k). Not that money is my greatest motivator, either, although I am highly competitive. Don't tell my boss this but I could probably be bought off with seeing my name on a top score board and a head pat once in a while. But I am a 31 married female who wants a baby at some point, so I don't want to aspire to something that having work life balance is nearly impossible. In our job, it looks like the family men are usually managers, and the enterprise are young, hungry hustlers. I don't know much about the AE folk, but they've been killing it this year in sales. Thoughts?

Should I take a SDR role at zendesk

    Posted: 25 Dec 2021 05:14 PM PST

Hey everybody. So I have been working as an sdr for about 7 months now and a boutique inside sales company. The company is kinda ran in a ramshackle way and we basically do the sdr work for various companies such as cyberproof, Gigamon, Aruba etc. The base pay is about 40k after you break 8 meetings. They kinda give you terrible pitches that are long winded and stick you on different campaigns. And your ability to make money is based on the quality of campaigns you get and the amount. It can be some favoritism involved and they can take your campaigns away at will. They also recycle a lot of the call list so sometimes a new campaign will just be a beat down list that someone else couldn't close. So I kinda started looking around for other opportunities because I feel like I have reached the Ceiling of what I can do here because it's a crazy amount of dials 150-200 (people that are successful here could be making 250 or more calls a day) and they don't really develop your sales skills and use shady tactics to book meetings.. I don't see a trajectory here. So anyways I got recruited by Zendesk. So here's the breakdown of what they are offering 45 base with a 75 OTE. They have a stock option plan with you supposed to receive 20,000 RSUs. Seems like some decent pto time that your able to accrue. I know that zendesk is a sales crm platform and has been growing. Any advice on taking this opportunity? Anybody have experience with zendesk as a bdr? I want somewhere where I could potentially grow into management… I could use some advice from the community on this one. Thanks hope your having a merry Xmas!

What should I do any advice?

Anyone who is selling into the lead gen and/or comparative rating space, do you have any resources top of mind to learn more about these areas?
