Anyone else struggling to make cold calls this week? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 07:20 AM PST This time of year is so hard for me to pick up the phone. I just want to wait until next year to start up again. More focused on follow ups and closing. [link] [comments] |
How to ask for a raise (Europe) Posted: 23 Dec 2021 03:03 AM PST Working at a mid-sized European tech company. I am the youngest member of the sales team (27yo) and have been hitting respectively 110, 150 and 200% of my quota and I am the top sales guy so far. My pipeline is also full of opportunities and my projects are usually the most exciting ones in the company. This is my first job and I started as an intern, then in a year, I became a manager for my territory (international SaaS). However, I am really bad at asking for more. I know changing a job is an option but I feel like the job is so exciting and allows me to travel to the countries I like as much as I want. I feel like I should receive 10% at least this year. How do I ask for it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 09:07 AM PST Hi All I am an account manager that is working with a legacy customer that has been buying from our company for over 4 decades. They are familiar with the product, they purchase material weekly and their employees/sales folks are VERY familiar with our brand. The problem is I inherited this account from one of our account managers that has retired and happened to work with this account for over 40 years and had an unbelievable relationship with the buyer. The buyer thus far has been extremely difficult to get a hold of, I've had very few meetings with him, and he works remotely very often. I'm on the younger side (early 30s) and the buyer is on the older side (late 50s). I feel I am really dropping the ball with managing this $10,000,000 account. To be honest, I feel there isn't much more I can do because the buyer already knows everything he needs to know about the brand I represent, but with that said, it's hard for me to play 'defense' against the competitors that are coming in with prices way lower than ours. If you were in my shoes, what would you do / recommend? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 05:11 PM PST I've decided that I am committed to changing professions and want to start fresh in sales. That's why I need advice. If you were me, (31 years old, 3 + years experience in my profession, graduate level education, Ohio), what would you do? What can I do now to prepare for a career in sales? What is the best "thing" to sell? What makes a great salesperson? Any advice or input is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 11:25 AM PST I feel like I'm doing everything right. My boss and colleagues tell me that I'm doing amazing at my job. The instructional info we are given affirms my talkpaths and tells me that I'm hitting the right points and attempting to close well. I'm making more calls during the day than my coworkers. I'm having more "talk time" throughout the day. Customers are relaxed with we. Literally everything is going my way except closing. I'm a captive P&C insurance salesmen. For this month I have a whopping 2 items. Currently our top salesmen has right at 40. I understand that December is a slow month especially with the holidays. But 2 items is awful. I don't get it. Even slam dunk sales (we are cheaper and provide more coverage) are not going my way. I appreciate the compliments from my work environment. They're all great people, but compliments don't pay the mortgage. I feel so lost and dejected from crashing and burning so hard. I do not know what to do. Seriously thinking about bailing and trying to find something else. I don't know man, I just hate losing all the time. I'll stop ranting now... [link] [comments] |
Aggressive sellers, what are your primary hobbies? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 05:03 AM PST I'm trying to determine if there is a correlation between high level sellers and their natural interests outside of work. [link] [comments] |
Sales Managers - How do you view SPIFs vs Quota/OTE? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 12:33 PM PST For 2021, all of our sellers will fall significantly short of their quota/OTE.. (due to extremely poor forecasting for quotas, even though our company still performed exceptionally well and everyone is happy with our growth and revenue as we close out the year), but that's besides the point. Coming into Q4, our VP announced a SPIF (sales performance incentive bonuses), where each seller gets $xxx bonus if they can sell X amount of product within Q4. This certainly helped motivate, and a few sellers smashed their Q4 targets and will reap the SPIF incentives because of it (though even these sellers will STILL fall significantly short of OTE for 2021 without these SPIFs). Now for next year, I want to ensure that quotas are actually attainable.. and I made remarks to VP of how 'no one is coming close to their OTE for the entire year, despite everyone congratulating us for an exceptional year'. The VP remarked that's not true, as due to the SPIFs, several sellers will now hit their OTE. So my question.. should these SPIF add-ons be 'incorporated' into their OTE calculations? I explained that these were just incentive bonuses.. and not directly tied to quotas.. if you remove those extra add-ons, not a single seller came close to their OTE or yearly quotas, and summing this into their earnings did not seem right to me. Am I wrong in thinking this? Or is this the correct way to look at it? [link] [comments] |
Where to find free lists of companies that are attending conferences? Posted: 23 Dec 2021 03:24 AM PST Here's an example of one list I found - https://lists.amplemarket.com/ Does anyone know of any similar site that has this kind of list? [link] [comments] |
Please help me decide between offers Posted: 22 Dec 2021 11:45 AM PST Offer 1: Pharmaceutical Account Manager. Base 85k + 36k commission = 121k OTE year 1 Offer 2: Field Sales Associate for a top 10 medical device company. Base: 55k, uncapped commission, but realistic OTE = 90k-110k year 1 I'm 23 years old. I've worked my ass off for both these positions. For pharma, this isn't an entry level position but the manager was so impressed and convinced I could do the job that he put me through and I just received the offer. I worked harder to get into med device as I believe it may be more rewarding in the long run. This is an entry level position. They have flown me out, I've met the territory managers I'd be working under, taken a look at the territory, been in a case. Everything is set. They would pay me 5k in relocation assistance, and $500/month for car allowance + 0.27 cents per mile mileage reimbursement. Manager told me most reps are taking home 900-1100 extra per month for their cars. Also offer an option to purchase company stock after a year at a discounted rate (15% discount off of the lowest price that the stock was at for the given year I believe). After 1-3 years, you could be promoted to a territory manager where base is around 90k, OTE is 140k. Which would you take? Pharma pay is higher but I don't know if you could make more money in the long run than med device. I also don't know if it's as fulfilling, but it's an easy 121k because pharma reps are more educators than actual salesmen based on what I've heard from reps I've spoken to. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 07:27 PM PST Good Reads Or Videos On Closing would be greatly appreciated. Thankful for this sub, i legit went from thinking I was going to get fired to feeling really confident about my performance. My boss told me that I have a couple days till to do a mock demo with him and close him. I've already learned a lot and think i got this, and that's 80% of the battle. My boss he has an opening for another AE but he wants to prolong it because he wants me on the team, instead of being the only BDR on the team. The VP wants him to fill it but he told me he is good at stalling, we have been getting along great and my team is the most competent team in the biz so I realty want to be apart of it and not end up as an AE couple months down the line in a shittier vertical. Any other tips you think I can do to stand out to the VP and my boss let me know! There is a conference that I was not planning on going in person, but that isn't for another month and a half, hoping to be promoted before that happens, but thinking of going just so I can shake hands and make nice nice with the big guy. I also have been working on a presentation for the other BDR's and been using this slow week to make it look at professional as possible. [link] [comments] |
Salary Advice for Enterprise Sales Executive (EMEA) Posted: 23 Dec 2021 02:31 AM PST Hi everyone I've found myself in the lucky position having been a SDR for a number of years to finally get the call up in my work to be promoted to full sales executive. I have no idea what salary i should negotiate and would like some ideas of what the market rate is. Some Context: My company really wants to promote me i have a fantastic internal reputation and this will be much needed back filled role. I am confident i have negoation power. My Company is a Fortune 500 consultancy. My Target will most likely be anywhere from £3-6m initially, some of our reps get targets of £12m. Biggest deal sold ive seen is £50m. This is IT Consultancy Sales not SAAS - we work with the big tech companies but ultimately sell everything from IOT, SAAS, IT outsourcing, Project management, BPO, cloud services. Boots on the ground type stuff. This is 100% Outbound/Hunter role, i will have 0 managed accounts. I would like some ideas on what is a sensible rate to ask for, i was thinking £70k but i dont know if this is too high considering i havent held a target before. This role will be high pressure and high risk, my company can be ruthless if reps under perform they get cut. Any advice would be much appreciated, questions welcome! [link] [comments] |
SDR to AE ; how do I think differently? Posted: 23 Dec 2021 02:24 AM PST SDR within Saas (lots of inbound leads), coming up to a year now. Before I put in the ask, I want acknowledge how valuable this sub has been in helping me break into an SDR role progress to an AE (long-time lurker here!). Y'all are awesome! The last few weeks, I've been speaking to the VP and sales managers who've hinted to me at openings on the floor in Q1'22 and that I'll be transitioning to an AE. I'm excited to carry a $ quota and want to smash those numbers in Q1. Fellow AE's and former SDRs - I'd like to learn how do you shift from the mindset of ''I gotta book this meeting" to "I gotta bring the sale home"? What resources should I be looking up? What should I be watchful about? What went wrong when you transitioned from an SDR to AE? [link] [comments] |
Amazon Enterprise AWS vs Gartner MSE Posted: 23 Dec 2021 01:57 AM PST Hey all! Here for some advice. I'm relatively new to the industry, started at Gartner in their MSE, GST department and been with them for just about a year. Right now, I am also in the final stages of the interview process for a position in enterprise AWS sales as an Account Executive for Amazon's Spain branch. I know that lots of people move on from Gartner to big tech sales, including AWS, but I would love to get some insight and advice here from people with more experience on the field. What would you do in my position, if offered the job? (advice appreciated also comp wise, if possible; I am not sure of any numbers for the Amazon part yet though). Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2021 01:56 AM PST I've come across N3 (part of Accenture) while browsing for jobs. Apparently they outsource inside sales for tech companies, and it struck my interest since they have a lot of postings in Portugal. Being outsourced doesn't sound very exciting, mostly because I've had some bad experiences with it in the past. Though Accenture is a well-known company and I presume the pay and benefits should be good as well? Has anyone worked here before? What was it like? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 10:08 PM PST I'm 25, starting out in sales. I was wondering how long can one stay in sales? [link] [comments] |
Call centre job is actually sales, should I get commission? Posted: 23 Dec 2021 01:26 AM PST I started a job as a call centre operative, thought it was mainly customer service. Although, they keep adding more sales tasks onto myself, should I be getting commission? Industry is non-profit healthcare. [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on an inside sales representative position? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 03:20 PM PST I've received a job offer for an inside sales position at a logistics company. It pays approximately 40k a year + commissions. It would require me to move out of my parent's place for the first time. I've had 3 years of experience working at townships, but contracts ended. I feel like 40k a year isn't enough, but it's better than receiving EI? Need thoughts and opinions! Does anyone have experience with this? Is it a profitable industry to work in? I'm worried about the targets on whether I'll be able to exceed their quotas. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Dec 2021 07:04 PM PST Looking for guidance on how to break into a remote sales position. I have no degree but I'm definitely experienced as a previous business owner and currently doing in home construction sales. Sales management experience and consistent top performer. I know there's no substitute for experience and work ethic however I feel like it's difficult to break into SaaS without taking a huge step backwards in pay taking a BDR role. I cannot take a huge pay cut currently. [link] [comments] |
What industry is best for an Olympian / D1 Athlete to break into? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 11:49 PM PST Hey guys, I am an Olympian, D1 All American, 3X SEC Champion with B2B Sales experience, and a profitable exit from a startup under my belt. I'm about to graduate college and I am looking to break into an industry with the highest earning potential and career progression... I am curious - given my credentials and past experience - what would the best industry be for me to break into? Most importantly, I am looking for the highest starting salary (+OTE) & of course career progression opportunities for top performers. Currently, I have it narrowed down to Tech Sales & Medical Device Sales but am extremely open to any sort of advice. Any help would be much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Are channel sales people really sales people? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 03:58 PM PST Ive always sold for a vendor, directly to end user Recently got interviewed for a channel sales rep position With the hiring line manager telling me you just gotta bring on new partners and enable them Does that count as sales? I disagree What do you think? [link] [comments] |
What type of sales job do you have? Posted: 22 Dec 2021 06:14 PM PST What type of sales job do you have? Is it BDR/SDR, account manager, account executive? Full sales cycle? And how do you think it compares in difficulty to other sales jobs? I'm debating whether to accept a SDR at the SaaS company, or an account manager at an elevator company. Any insights on the different types of roles would help me decide what offer to accept. [link] [comments] |
Help on how to move forward with my Job. Posted: 22 Dec 2021 09:40 PM PST Hey Guys I need some help. Long story short my Boss is changing the commission structure for 2022 to where if a goal isn't met you only get 25% of your commission. I am salary and commission but my salary is not that much. I'm conflicted because I enjoy my Job and I have a good boss but at the same time, I dont appreciate money being taken away knowing I've work hard all month. What would you do? [link] [comments] |
That Time of the year to thank those who supported you through the year Posted: 22 Dec 2021 11:01 AM PST Let me start by thanking everyone who contributed to this sub in 2021, this sub opened my eyes about the presence of sales in areas I didn't know , and the success stories have given me confidence that money is always lurking everywhere. The year is coming to a close and whether closed $1k+ or $5m+ , it has been because someone had been willing to give you a chance. Think about the fact that most people have other options, and without you they'd still have got things done, but they happened to still choose you. You may believe your numbers was because you have 50+ years of experience or even think it's your skill and strategy. No, its because people trusted you over your competition. Take an hour to call, mail some of your customers or supporters, tell them "Thank you for being a priceless partner in success this year" . They'll remember you more. And, with this little act costing less than two cups of coffee, you would make them want to choose you again in 2022. Hint: Do it before everyone starts doing it and they think its cliche. Season greetings! [link] [comments] |
