    I just got a 45% pay raise!!!

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 02:38 PM PST

That is all, I just don't have many people to share it with.

I've felt overqualified and underpaid for a while now, mentioned it to my boss that I was looking for higher positions. She worked with HR and the SVP of my department and was able to get my role promoted to the higher position, with very minimal additional responsibilities, and the 45% pay raise.

45k to 65k, associate to analyst.

    Happy holidays everyone!!!

“They should teach taxes in school”

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 10:20 PM PST

Do you know how frustrating it is to see the looser kids from high school, who never gave a damn to begin with, get mad public schools don't teach them "taxes."

I'm currently going for my masters in tax and it just drives me up a wall. Yes, I get what they're trying to convey but when it's these stupid Robinhood scam stupid investor boys I want to gooo offf! So I am doing it here lol

Just told a friend I was gearing up for busy season, but mistyped and said fearing up. Both are accurate.

At what point is it reasonable to abandon ship

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 08:10 AM PST

Going into busy season, I think we've had about 7 people quit within the last month alone. As an A1, pretty much half of the people I've met in the two months I've been at the firm have quit, including the guy who was assigned to be my buddy lol.

My last two seniors have been contractors hired to fill the gap, and their answer to all my questions have all pretty much been to shrug their shoulders and ask the manager (who is spread way too thin as it is).

I have no idea what I'm doing and feel like there's nobody left to ask for help. Should I start looking for a job now or should I tough it out?

Unpopular Opinion: I enjoy working long hours

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 07:07 AM PST

A lot of people are against and that's fine but I definitely like it way better. Keep in mind my past office snacks, Keurig coffee, and 2 ft cubicle were absolutely amazing. So much that I didn't mind never seeing my family. I left for a higher paying job that was only 32 hours/week and it's been terrible. There's no Keurig and people act like it's a burden skyping them for help at 9pm. I find it difficult learning when I only work 8 hours a day. Maybe it's because I hate my family but I learned way more during the 9-10pm hour. I guess the bottom line is I need to never have any free time so I don't mourn the loss of my own existence. Also sanity isn't everything lol.

    Move on!

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 05:47 PM PST

TLDR right off the bat: graduated at 28. Dicked around and hiked the AT and PCT for a few years. Worked in public accounting in a small town for 3 years at $42k for 2380+ hrs. Quit after managing partner thought it wise to threaten to fire me as a means to "inspire" me. Found controller job for a small s-corp and it's a FUCKING BREEZE! Making $66K for 40hrs/week and I come and go as I please. Oh and 5 weeks of vacation. Always be looking for better options always be ready to move on. Not a CPA.

You really need an officer of the company on the phone just for us to hear if we also need to file use tax monthly as well? Yeah lemme just casually get the CFO of this F500 company on the line for this extremely pressing matter of a state use tax filing we pay a couple hundred bucks toward every year. That would be a good use of his time. Why does it have to be an officer? And why can't we just have sales and use tax on the same return? Then we wouldn't even have this problem in the first place.

Also their hold music is straight garbage.

    Boyfriend starts busy szn soon

    Posted: 21 Dec 2021 07:47 PM PST

My (F30) bf (M31) is an audit manager for a public accounting firm. We've been through one tax season and that was ok. We weren't living together at the time. I did get sad in March and just missed him. Luckily we now live together and get to see each other daily.

I'm looking for advice on how I can help support my bf. I'm thinking meals, space, and minimal pressure to do stuff. Any other suggestions??

    New staff needs to STFU

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 07:10 PM PST

I work at a small office. This new staff who I supervise won't stfu. She's loud and obnoxious, and I can't stand when her lips flap. Any suggestions on how to handle it? I've ignored it thus far, despite her attitude when I try to explain the accounting processes (I try to be patient and kind).

She also coughs up a storm every day and it's clear it's covid. She also is a fucking pig who is a loud eater. And is on the phone 70% of the work day. Can't make this shit up.

Career Advice to become accountant/financial advisor to celebrities?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 12:31 AM PST

I'm looking for solid career advice as to how to get these accounting or finance jobs for celebrities? Gwyneth Paltrow has vagina stones that are selling like hotcakes. She wants to turn her daughter Apple into the next person to take over her business selling such trinkets. Then you have Heidi Klum with her daughter who speaks German like a LA valley girl with all the uptalk and vocal fry a traditional Berliner does making her daughter into a fashion model.

How do I break into these roles? Do I do a traditional B4 then come up with a weird name and back story and I'm hired? Weekends at the most trendy bars and bump elbows with the rich and famous?

I'm hoping since those celebrities are grooming their daughters to run these corporations I see working for them as like a funded start-up. Got some funding, some marketing power, and potential to grow in the role to the. Later hit the FAANG equivalent of working for Kylie Jenner. Her accountants are the top of the top. She stated her business was 1) self-made and 2) worth over $1B. I ignore the reports when investigated into that it can't be and it was some accounting magic but I'd love to work to make such accounting magic happen.

Any solid advice to get there?

This took a while to get the courage to ask.. But

    Posted: 22 Dec 2021 02:11 PM PST

So I graduated in spring 2019 with a 2.9 GPA. I figured that since my own GPA wasn't that great and my networking skills were subpar, that I would just focus on studying and passing the cpa. So I bought wileycpa for studying and figured, a few months and I'll be on my way..

That didn't turn out so well due to undiagnosed (at the time) adhd. Studying was sporadic and months would go on end without me even touching the thing.

After randomly browsing r/getmotivated last year and seeing a comment that mentioned checking out r/adhd, a lot of things in my life just started to click about why I did the things I did on an everyday basis.

So I immediately got an appointment with a therapist and got diagnosed. She advised to search for clinic that treats adhd, and I ended up with a psychiatrist who agreed with the therapist but couldn't prescribe Adderall due to clinic policy.

I got prescribed Adderall with a different psychiatrist at the end of April. Studied for FAR and tested on the 11th this month. It was the most consistent I've ever been and I've also been able to practice good routines as well. I did my best and I hope I pass.

Recently, on this subreddit, I've been seeing a few comments saying that the market is hot and that public firms are hiring like crazy. Should I brush up my resume and try to get in or should I keep studying full-time? If anyone else has adhd, I would very much like to know what your experience in public was like and where you're at now.
