Top 5 companies by insider *selling* activity over the past month

Yesterday I published a post on insider buying activity. Today's research will be based on insider trading activity from the opposite perspective - selling activity for the last month.

It seems to me that this is an important market indicator if the insiders of a particular company sell or buy some stock, this indirectly determines the company's performance and the mood of executives. True, corporate insiders – the senior employees and executives who run the company – are privy to information that we, outsiders, are not. When these insiders sell the stock, it's only natural for outsiders to wonder if something is afoot. However, as opposed to insider buying, insider selling doesn't tell us all that much. The reason? Insiders sell the stock for a number of reasons, the vast majority of which are unsophisticated.

I've been collecting data from Nasdaq and other financial sources daily for the last few months, and then aggregated it for all public US companies.

    1. Baker Hughes Company ($BKR) - provides a portfolio of technologies and services worldwide. It operates through four segments: Oilfield Services (OFS), Oilfield Equipment (OFE), Turbomachinery & Process Solutions (TPS), and Digital Solutions (DS).

    2. Zoominfo Technologies ($ZI) - the company provides a go-to-market intelligence platform for sales and marketing teams.

    https://preview.redd.it/57g7zlmfae081.png?width=1196&format=png&auto=webp&s=3131e169c2d9d8b40fd7bb794a654b25bc1246ba

    3. Vertiv Holdings Co. ($VRT) - together with its subsidiaries, the company designs, manufactures, and services critical digital infrastructure technologies and life cycle services for data centers, communication networks, and commercial and industrial environments in the Americas, the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

    https://preview.redd.it/x2b925wlae081.png?width=1202&format=png&auto=webp&s=a68b42c76f955fcdcf4e928eb703ac2716c6a127

    4. TaskUs, Inc. ($TASK) - is a provider of outsourced digital services and next-generation customer experience to innovative and disruptive technology companies.

    https://preview.redd.it/itonsf0oae081.png?width=1181&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f654d6803fe15145fc644a36e3bab4cba5aba7f

    5. Sunnova Energy International Inc. ($NOVA) - Sunnova provides residential solar and energy storage services in the United States. The company offers operations and maintenance, monitoring, repairs and replacements, equipment upgrades, on-site power optimization, and diagnostics services.

    https://preview.redd.it/m5i7gurpae081.png?width=1190&format=png&auto=webp&s=cd2f16834ec4b7a026a608ba25e576bfb0857412

Take a closer look at this company. In December 2020 we see a peak in stock selling activity, and just a couple of weeks later, this was reflected in the stock price - it has been decreasing until the end of spring.

    https://preview.redd.it/19mdj0kdce081.png?width=770&format=png&auto=webp&s=35007395ca7f0a2c175a7200b2ec7fa9afca1c26

So, what does it mean if you see someone from the insiders are selling? But in the meantime, the others are holding their shares? That is not always a red flag. But if you see a pattern of regular selling without an objective reason, it may be a good time to take note.

As a result, looking at insider buying and selling activity can be a powerful investment sign that may help you predict future swings in stock prices. But it shouldn't be your only source of information - you can just use it in conjunction with your investment strategy.

    PsychoMarket Recap - Thursday, November 18, 2021

Stocks traded mixed on Thursday, with Nasdaq (QQQ) massively outperforming on the day, driving by strength in mega-caps like Apple (AAPL), NVIDIA (NVDA) and Amazon (AMZN) while the Dow Jones (DIA) fell for the second straight day. Market participants continue to digest the tail-end of a better-than-expected corporate earnings season amid a backdrop of rising inflation.

    Key Numbers For Today

    • S&P 500 (SPY): +0.34%
    • Nasdaq (QQQ): +1.04%
    • Dow Jones (DIA): -0.13%
    • Russell 2000 (IWM): -0.41%
    • Apple (AAPL): +2.9%
    • Amazon (AMZN): +4.14%
    • NVIDIA (NVDA): +8.25%
    • Alibaba (BABA): -11.26%
    • Rivian (RIVN) and Lucid (LCID): -16.4% and -10.47%

After a monster run-up last month, the choppiness in the market can be attributed to mixed economic reports coming out recently. While US retail sales came in better-than-expected, a great sign that consumer demand is staying robust, the recent report on inflation showed the fastest pace of growth in roughly 30 years.

Earlier in the week, Walmart (WMT) and Target (TGT), two of the largest retailers in the US, reported earnings. While the report was better than expected, executives from both companies raised concerns over rising prices, rising labor costs, and supply-chain disruptions affecting the bottom line.

The possible staying power of inflation remains the central focus for market participants, as a potential damper to consumer spending, which accounts for roughly 70% of US GDP and as a catalyst for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates sooner than originally expected. Despite starting to taper the pace of quantitative easing, the Fed has remained very accommodative and says an interest rate hike could take place sometime near the middle of next year. It would be really bad for markets if the timeline is accelerated.

Adding another wrench in the plans, President Biden is expected to announce his nominee to be the Chair of the Fed. So far, the two main candidates are incumbent Jerome Powell and current Fed Governor Lael Brainard.

The Labor Department's Weekly Unemployment Report came in slightly higher than expected but still eked out a new pandemic-era low. Here are the numbers:

    • Initial unemployment claims, week ended November 13: 268,000 vs. 260,000 expected and an upwardly revised 269,000 during prior week
    • Continuing claims, week ended November 5: 2.080 million vs. 2.120 million expected and an upwardly revised 2.209 million during prior week

    Highlights

    • Shares of Alibaba (BABA) fell after the company disappointed in their latest earnings report and slashed guidance for the full year, citing slowing consumption trends in China. Here are the numbers:

Who’s Bullish on PROG ? Lemme tell you why I am

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 10:45 PM PST

Prog has had a great run the last few weeks. Why ?
FOMO. that's pretty much it. But with the catalysts all coming into play at the current moment it's hard to not be bullish & hop onboard.

Conference meetings yesterday, tomorrow & Monday hopefully bring hints of (rumored ) partnership with Pfiezer as well as attracts new investors on the breakthroughs being made with medicine.
A lil bit of personal DD time you'd see this company is undervalued & wont stay that way for long.

On top of awaiting PR drops, this weeks run up has the CALLS under 5$ for the week in the money.
If the share price can HODL over 5$ at close this thing will be insane AH & Pre hrs Monday morning

Who's in Prog ?? 🚀. Not advice. But the stars are all aligning. GOod Luck guys 👌

What is your point of view on the concept of "profit taking"?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 09:27 PM PST

"Profit taking" basically means selling your assets hoping that you can buy them in the future for a lower price, thus overperforming the simple buy and hold strategy. Doing this basically implies short term prediction of the stock market, and as a long term investor this does not seem particularly sensible to me, but I have to admit that sometimes it just seems the best thing to do instinctively. So my questions are:

1)is there any kind of study that backtested a profit taking strategy Vs simple buy and hold?

2)Do you do this? If so, do you have some kind of systematic approach?

    Thank you for your answers

Nvidia is up today - some quotes from the 3Q21 earnings call

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:02 AM PST

Three quotes that I though were key from the call yesterday:

    1. "Software opens new growth opportunities for us; the chips are the enablers, but it's the software that opens new growth opportunities. NVIDIA has 150 SDKs now addressing many of the world's largest end markets.
    2. Nvidia expects "Data Center to grow faster than Gaming probably both in terms of percentage-wise and absolute dollars".
    3. Every single server will be GPU accelerated some that today of all the clouds and all the enterprise, less than 10%. That kind of gives you a sense of where you are.

People still view Nvidia as a hardware play but the growth will really come from software. Software incudes Omniverse (Nvidia's version of the metaverse in ProViz segment) and Enterprise AI, targeting vertical industries within the Data Center segment. I think that software can add $7-10bn in revenues over the next 5-10 years with still high growth going forward. Which would be like creating a mini Nvidia.

People have just started talking about software over the past month which is why the stock is on a tear, but I think we are in early innings.

I have a bunch of bonds upwards to 25k, I have no clue what to do.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 03:59 PM PST

First off, if this isn't the correct sub please just let me know and I'll remove it, but I figured with all of you smart individuals, one of you would have an educated answer.

So since I was a kid, my family has been buying me bonds and since I'm home visiting my family, my mom told me about them.

I literally know nothing about bonds, I'm not strapped for money, so cashing them in is always great to have extra money but like I've said I'm not hurting.

Not sure if they get taxed or what, I really just need an ELI5.

Thank you in advance you fine people!!
