How do I get my product developed?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:01 PM PST

    Hey all,

I've spent a lot of time thinking through the features of my MVP and am struggling to find people to build it out. I have a technical background, but not as skilled to build out iOS or web apps.

I've been trying to look for a tech co-founder but am not sure if that is the right approach. What is the best way to get my idea/wireframes into a functioning app? Also, how much time should I estimate for this to take?

I joined a startup 6 months ago and my company still hasn’t granted my shares

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:39 PM PST

I joined a startup 6 months ago when the recruiter told me that the strike price was around $100 at the time. Since then I have yet to be granted my shares. We just raised another round of funding and I was told our strike price is now at $165.

I contacted HR and they said that while the strike price will be the price when my options are granted, they start vesting when I joined the company, so I shouldn't worry. They can't grant them to me until the board meets and approves them. I'm sure the board has met at least once in the last 6 months…

This is frustrating to me because I've already lost the $65 per share difference in value.

Is this common in startups? I've worked at another startup before and I had been granted my options soon after I joined. Is there anything I can do in this situation?

    Forgive or fire?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 11:51 PM PST

I'll write in point form for easier understanding

    - I make cookies from home and sell to shops
    - I open my first store 2 weeks ago
    - Hired a cashier (Let's name her Mary)
    - Mary's from afar, so I provide a quarter for her to stay
    - I told her the quarter is strictly for staff only
    - Next day, the other tenant told me Mary invited people there (drink, talk loudly until 2am)
    - I warn Mary the next day
    - I was told again Mary's bf was seen leaving the quarter early in the morning
    - Mary looks sick, I asked her to go checkup in hostpital
    - Covid Positive
    - Mary, and everyone in the quarter tested positive, all quarantine. I'm negative, but need to be quarantine too. (I have 6 employees, 5 of them are quarantined)

Mary is a smart and proactive employee, but I'm so mad now because of all the potential sales I would've been able to do, but because my production can't keep up, I have lost an amount of $$.

So here's some of my thought to resolve this matter: (be mindful that she's still in probation, and there are no contract or anything between us)

    1. Fire her, forfeit all of her wages.
    2. Fire her, but still pay her.
    3. Let her stay, but forfeit her wages, warn her.
    4. Let her stay, pay her for what she has worked for, warn her and hope she'll become loyal.
    5. Kick her out of the quarter, but let her continue to work for me.

Any advice you could give would be much appreciated.

The kind of people in r/startups

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:59 AM PST

Everyone here has an idea that they're working to make a reality... I'm not there yet because I have way too many ideas. From niche home decor, apps, trading card game accessories, nfts etc... I have a lot of ideas and I cannot figure out how to narrow it down and what to dump the tiny amount of time I have into it.

How do you figure out what to start IF you have so many ideas? I specifically want to hear from people who have put other ideas to the side in order to pursue one, and how they selected it.

    Thanks for your time everyone

    From Paper to Physical

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 04:25 AM PST

So for a while now I've been designing and mapping out a product that I (obviously) believe will work. However after now dealing with the basic designs, drawings and plans I'm pretty stumped. I not got any experience or knowledge on turning an idea from something on paper, into a something physical.

Any assitance or advice on what I need to do to take the next step, or even better where I can educate myself further on this next step.

Question about Stock Options and Mergers

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 02:56 AM PST

I just left my start-up to pursue a new opportunity but exercised my ISOs prior to leaving.

After leaving, I learned that my old company is now going through a merger with another private company (competitor) and was curious about a few things.. It's my first time dealing with these things so I have no idea where to look or find answers. Thank you in advance for any information!

    1. What will happen to my exercised shares? Will they get cashed out? If so, when?
    2. Do I need to reach out to my old company if I want it to be cashed out?
    3. If they do pay out my exercised shares, would they just send me a check or should I expect it to come through direct deposit?

    Need some advice

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 05:20 PM PST

    Hey everybody,

So I have completed a detailed wire frame of my project. It is a social network based web app. I have very little technical experience and a tiny budget. I have a plan for my execution and next steps, but I would love to know if you were in my position, what would you do from here, what would your next steps be? I have one failed app under my belt due to poor execution. It has taught me alot and I hope to do it right this time around.

Tdlr; You created a wire frame for your web app. With little tech experience and a small budget, what do you do from here?

Fallen off the wagon - how to get back on it?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:32 AM PST

Recently I've had some life changes (a new girlfriend and worsened depression), those changes have resulted in me only working on my SaaS a few hours a week and spending the rest either with the girlfriend or sitting thinking. I used to do an 8 hour work day then do 6-8 hours of business work at night but now that is almost gone. I used to think I had the discipline and could power through anything but lately that hasn't been the case. I am posting to see what others have done when faced with this? How did you get back to where you were before with working a ton and moving the business forward?
