No job, no insurance, and a destroyed knee. What are my options for getting help? I am terrible at this stuff.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:01 PM PDT

I tore my ACL yesterday and my meniscus. At least I am 99% sure as I have had the injury in the past. However, I lost the ability to use my moms insurance in July and I have been unemployed since April. I recently went to healthcare.gov to try to get help from the government, but I believe I misled myself. One person called and told me they won't cover a potential surgery since the injury happened before I tried to get a plan with them. Someone else called me and told me and denied me as well, but said I need to get on Medicaid but I thought that was Medicaid the whole time.

Do I have a chance at getting help from Medicaid if I have surgery, or if I go with just physical therapy instead? I am 26 years old and as mentioned, no job, no insurance. I was just about to land a job somewhere, and because of this injury, I might even have to refuse it because I can't walk.

    Any help/guidance is appreciated.

    Car Accident

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 05:22 AM PDT

While on my way taking my siblings to school at 6 in the morning while it was pitch black, I backed up and hit an iron fence gate in the country side. Now no one lives there so I was thinking maybe I could do something about it but I really don't know. Should I try to fix it myself or what should I do

    Disputing a claim

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 03:43 AM PDT

I recently received from a letter from a person's insurance company claiming that my vehicle had bumped/scratched their car at low speeds in a parking lot. I'm disputing the claim 100%.

The claimant's Insurance company has provided zero evidence (e.g. photos of damages on their car or on my car) other than a verbal story from the claimant.

I'm thinking about reporting this to my insurance company to have them handle the claim. Is that the sensible thing to do?

House fire and ALE is only 15k

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:17 PM PDT

I have allstate. My house suffered damage from an electrical fire and for some reason my agent set up the ALE at only 15k. We been in a fairly expensive hotel for almost 11 days and the company they hired to find us a place is the most incompetent pos place I ever meet. 15k or even 13k in the DC area does not go a long way. A 1br 1 ba runs around 2k

Anything we can do to get allstate to get us out of here? I am afraid we will run out of money and we still have to pay the mortgage

    Health Insurance Questions

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 01:08 AM PDT

    Hello,

I'm kinda new into the world of insurance and how everything operates. I just had a few quick questions about how I'm billed, how the insurance system works, and what I should expect to receive in terms of mail/bills/claims.

Earlier this year, I had a routine visit with my doctor, who requested I get some bloodwork done for lingering issues. Yada Yada, got it done, got an explanation of benefits a while later explaining everything. Here's where my confusion sets in. At the time, I had my primary insurance from my job, while also having health insurance under my parents. The letter from my primary explained I still owe X amount as a deductible. After this is done, will this amount be sent to my secondary insurance to see if they will cover the rest of the deductible? Or am I stuck paying whatever my primary doesn't cover as my deductible when the bill comes?

On the same topic, how does having a primary and secondary insurance generally work? I had primary insurance from my job along with insurance from my parents for a while, and didn't know how it worked.

I eventually had to leave my job due to health complications, and some of the claims I had went through my primary insurance and got denied because I had lost insurance from not being able to work. Will the claims automatically be re-billed to the insurance I have from my parents after being denied? Or do I need to contact the places and inform them they need to contact my secondary insurance even if both insurances are in their system?

How does billing even work? When should I expect to receive a legitimate bill from a hospital? I've heard it can take anywhere from weeks to months to years, so that answers nothing.

Tl;dr - 1. Used to have primary+secondary insurance. How does billing work when you have both? Will secondary cover deductible from primary? 2. Lost primary insurance due to health complications and being unable to work. Few claims went through primary and got denied. Will my secondary insurance pick up the bills? 3. When do I receive actual bills?

    Thanks.

Someone hydroplaned on highway and hit my car on Interstate in Ohio - Rental Options?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 11:06 PM PDT

I may need a rental car while my car, which is not yet in the shop, gets repaired. I'm not looking for legal advice per-se, I'd just like to know what I should expect and general next steps for engaging with the other guy's insurance company.

I can only say what I described on the report I gave to the State Highway Patrol guy: I was in the middle lane on an interstate highway, driving safely with no lane changing and also under the speed limit due to rainy weather conditions and the surrounding traffic, and an orange car in the left lane was passing myself and other vehicles, and he hydroplaned and spun out of control from the left lane all the way to the right shoulder, hitting the left side of my car in the process, doing heavy damage on one door and across several other parts. The car is still safely drivable at interstate speeds.

I have comprehensive car insurance, but I do not have rental car coverage. I have submitted a claim to my insurance, and they said that I need to wait for a claims person to call me and they could give me more information on how to handle rental car reimbursement. Absent some sort of magical input from the claims person, the people on the phone said I would need to take it up with the other guy's insurance in order to be reimbursed for a rental car.

My question is: How do I go about approaching the other insurance company for reimbursement for a rental car? (Yes, I did have the option to add rental reimbursement to my insurance, and I now have added it to my plan.) I don't yet know how long it would take to make my vehicle whole again, but even just replacing the door might take days or weeks depending in the shop. I don't yet know whether the other driver will be held at-fault.

Perhaps it's a nothing-burger and I'll end up eating the cost of a rental car. Considering though that I would not have taken any damage presuming the other guy wasn't on the road (or presuming I was a minute sooner or later travelling on the highway), it would seem to me at least that the other guy would be covering the damages and the troubles. I'm not an insurance expert though, which is why I'm here!

Thanks for your help on this!

Confused about rental car collision insurance

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:51 PM PDT

Going on a trip, planning to rent a car, examining the collision insurance offered, and have some questions. The policy document has the following in the benefits section: "The Company will pay a benefit ... if the rented vehicle is damaged due to collision, vandalism, fire, hail or flood, or is stolen." My question is, what exactly is considered a 'collision'? There is a 'definitions' section in the document, but it does not define 'collision'. So, is it only a collision with another car? What if I collide with some other object, like a tree, will such damage be covered? What is the car is just scratched without bumping into anything, will such damage be covered? What if the rental car goes off the rood and turns over without actually hitting anything, will such damage be covered? The policy document has the 'exclusions' section, but it does not discuss any of such possibilities. Can someone shed some light on it? If you want to take a look at the complete insurance document, here is the link:

Healthcare facility told me THRICE I owe them nothing, but received a letter threatening to turn to collections agency

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 05:32 PM PDT

okay i'm not sure if this is the right topic to post this on but y'all i need advice about a medical bill??? also, i am extremely new to managing my own health insurance plan. i am 23F and am in need of input and advice.

so basically a couple months ago i got an IUD put in. before the procedure, i checked with my insurance AND with the healthcare facility to verify how much would be covered. my healthcare assured me that it would be covered 100%, with no copay necessary since this falls under the wellness coverages.

after this procedure was performed, before leaving the building, i asked if i needed to pay or owed anything, just to make sure i wasn't leaving any loose ends. they told me no, i was good to go. this was in July.

in August, my insurance sends me a statement saying i would owe this healthcare facility $98 (but remember, this is a statement, not a bill). feeling doubtful, i call the office to double check and make sure my balance is zero. they assured me i didn't owe anything.

still feeling doubtful about this, considering i received a statement from my insurance telling me i WOULD owe the healthcare facility money, i call a week or so later and inquire again about any unpaid balances... JUST to triple check. they at first tell me i owe $15, then she plus me on hold to verify that with a supervisor. she returns and tells me that was incorrect, because i indeed owe nothing.

now today, November 1st, i receive a letter in the mail from the billing company of said healthcare facility saying i owe $98 and that if i don't pay this or work out a payment plan in the next two weeks, they'll turn it over to an independent collections agency to deal with this. it was written October 26th, and mailed the 30th.

the opening statement on this letter i received today was, and i quote, "we regret that you have not responded to our office regarding your unpaid balance."

like??? i literally HAVE inquired about my balance. three times! but even if i hadn't, i never received ANY kind of bill in the mail prior to this letter to bring this balance to my attention. no phone call regarding an unpaid balance, no email, no pending charge on the healthcare facility's online portal, nothing.

with the aggressive wording in the letter, i know this isn't a bill. this is a threat to escalate the situation if this bill goes unpaid.

but im not sure what my approach should be or what route i should take now. they NEVER sent anything prior to the letter i received today, and i got this procedure done back in July. i asked that day if i owed anything. the insurance statement arrived in August, which is when i also made two additional calls to inquire about my balance. all times i was assured i didn't have a balance.

i just don't understand how i was supposed to know i owed ANYTHING when they never made any efforts to alert me of an unpaid balance until they threatened to turn it over to collections?? also, i was told by them that my insurance would cover this 100% with no copay, since it's a wellness coverage. so i am confused why i owe anything at all??

i am extremely confused. i now understand that i do in fact owe this amount, but why have they been telling me that i have no bills to pay and why haven't they sent me a bill in the mail and/or called me informing this?

to make matters even more frustrating, i had the means and the funds necessary to pay within the past 3 months, but at this current moment in time, i literally cannot even afford to pay this bill in full. i am so frustrated with this situation. i can not afford this.

i just tried to call and deal with this situation to hopefully work out a payment plan but no one in the billing department is even there to help me right now. so what the heck do i even do about any of this? do i tell them about all this and what should i expect to happen? what steps do i take? what do i do?

Can I put my twin brother down as a beneficiary on my life insurance policy?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 04:57 PM PDT

He makes his own money and lives in another city. We both make around 40k a year. When I was hired the gig came with life insurance, but I live alone so I just put him down as beneficiary with no one else in mind, not knowing if that was even acceptable either to be honest. But I figured if I kick the bucket at least someone should benefit from it, I guess.

    Liability while driving Uhaul

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 04:57 PM PDT

I just moved into a new apartment complex but i hit the height clearance bar while trying to get into the parking garage with a uhaul truck. It bent the metal bar a bit and a gate rail came loose so it will prb need some work.

Will my auto insurance cover my liability for the property damage or am i on my own?

Fortunately i don't see any damage on the truck and i purchased uhaul's insurance that covers the truck, so truck won't be an issue.

What happen with car insurance if I file claims then repair the damages right before adjusters arrive?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 08:18 AM PDT

I know insurance often once you file claims adjusters will come to take photo then set a price to fix base on insurance computerized system.

However let supposed somebody hit my car at parking lot. I wasn't in car. Someone did and left notes with their name and insurance information on my vehicle.

Next I made phone calls to make a claims number. Right after phone call, I go to bodyshop and request them to fix my vehicle right away. Bodyshop willing to fix. I hired professional photographer to come and take pic of damages. I request emergency rush services.

At end repairs cost 4,000. Then how insurance handle it if it would be 2,000 if adjusters take a look and set a price. The extra cost 300 dollars by hiring professional photographers and another 1700 dollars extra because bodyshop charge extra for emergency rush services plus pay extra to get parts delivered quicker.

Would insurance will pay 4,000 or will say sorry only pay 2,000?

In ohio my Car was totaled. Got salvage title. Can I get it insured to drive to the inspection?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 01:46 PM PDT

Hi. So basically my car was totalled in ohio. I have a salvage title and the receipt to go get it inspected so I can get a rebuilt title. I'm supposed to be able to drive it to get inspected by using the receipt if I get pulled over. But I'm assuming I'll also need insurance for the drive and online everywhere says you cant insure a car with a salvage title. So how do I drove it to the inspection? Am I missing something easy?

    Thanks for your help.

Someone rear ended my car while I was parked

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 07:21 PM PDT

The other driver was trying to parallel park in the spot in front of me but hit my car in the process. It's dark out and I have a black car so I'm not 100% sure but it looks like the only point of contact was with my front license plate, which caused some scratches on her rear bumper. I think it also slightly bent the bracket, but it's not completely broken. I took her insurance info just in case I see additional damage in the morning.

Should I file an insurance claim for this even though there might not be anything to fix? Since she has more damage on her car, I'm worried that she'll tell her insurance that I'm the one who hit her.

Taking a bit of a timing gamble, how long does it take to put together an auto insurance policy? (NS, Canada)

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 07:13 PM PDT

I moved from BC to NS recently to buy a house and originally planned to bundle my home and auto insurance for the best deal.

The insurance company I wanted to go with is very strict and needed records pretty far back for the auto side in order to offer me a policy. So far back that I am currently waiting on the records from a company in another country that are taking their time being delivered but should be available within a week.

My current policy has 2 weeks left.

Quotes I've gotten from companies willing to insure me without full records are 5-7x what the company I am wanting to go with charges. Those rates are many times more than I've ever paid.

I do however have a spotless driving history, but that said I am now living in a rural area and completely dependent on a car.

Am I better off waiting it out to see if my old US insurance is actually able to give me my records to lock in a very reasonable rate, or should I be just taking what I can get with the records I have in order to stay insured?

I have just under 2 weeks before my insurance runs out and it's the difference between $75 monthly with records and $360(with tracking app) and $512 without. Is it worth it to wait in this case, or should I just pay it to avoid ending up stranded? How long does setting up a policy normally take?

Need help navigating an out-of-state wreck [OK & KS]

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:20 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I live in OK. Last weekend I hit a deer in KS. I left my car in KS because I did not want to pay to have it towed home (my policy covers a 20 mile radius, I hit the deer just outside Kansas City -about 200 miles from home)).

So, now I'm quarterbacking the claim from OK. Just got the preliminary estimate today: $5,000 (sans my $500 deductible). The guy stressed that this was "preliminary" and that he will "need to disassemble the vehicle to determine additional damages".

State Farm has their estimator coming out tomorrow to review.

How do these types of claims usually proceed and what are next steps? The car is a 2015 Kia Sorento EX and is only worth about $14-$15K.

    TIA.

Edit: I have full comp and Collison coverage with a $500 deductible

Does uninsured motorist collision deductible waiver apply to a car that is totaled?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:44 AM PDT

(California) I was in a crash with an at-fault uninsured motorist. My car was sent into an auto-body shop, and my insurance company told me that I would not have to pay the deductible since I had the uninsured motorist collision deductible waiver. However, after the body shop gave a repair estimate, the insurance company deemed my car a total loss. They told me an amount over the phone but when I received the paperwork to sign, the amount had my deductible subtracted from it. I got the paperwork on Saturday so I couldn't call the insurance company, but I wanted to make sure I know what I'm talking about when I call them. Should my deductible waiver apply in this instance or is it only for repairs? Thanks!

$90/month for health insurance. Does this plan sound good?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:25 AM PDT

    Hi,

I have just started my first job after college and was wondering if this insurance plan sounds reasonable. For $90/month pre-tax benefits (in-network): $350 deductible, 0% coinsurance, $2k out of pocket max, physicals 100% covered, $25 copay for PCP and $35 for specialist, $200 copay ER, $35 copay urgent care, diagnostic/x-ray 100% after deductible, inpatient hospotial "ded; $100 per admit copay" (not sure on this wording), outpatient 100% after deductible, PT/speech therapy 100% after deductible, and mental health $35 copay.

Is this a reasonable healthcare plan? The open enrollment period starts soon and I want to see if I should enroll.

Edit: Thanks for the advice everyone, will definitely enroll.

Florida - Hit by a car in the rear and insurance declared that nobody is at fault. Should I get a lawyer? Or what should I do? I strongly believe that the other party was at fault.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 11:13 AM PDT

As the title says, I was hit in the driver's side rear fender by another vehicle that hit me with their front right side of the passenger's side.

We both had stop signs but they claimed I did not stopped. I did stop but I beleive they were distracted, in fact, they stated they "did not see me".

Police officer and insurance declared that they could not put anybody at fault. We both have Geico.

But I believe its their fault just by the way they hit me, in the rear.

    Should I get a lawyer?

My insurance says I have to pay for my own damages but payments won't go up.

    State is Florida.

19 years old, got my first car, and I have no clue how to put it in my name, get insurance, etc.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 04:49 PM PDT

Hello. I'm sorry if this is not a good subreddit for this, but I recently got a used car for free from a family friend. I really don't know how to go about putting it exactly in my name. I have the title and it's signed by the original owner. I do not have insurance. I do not own any other property. Basically what I'm asking is what should I do first? Do I go to an assessors first and then get insurance? Do I get insurance first? Is there something else I'm missing? What all do I need to do to drive this car? Its tags are also expired but I can't renew them until it's in my name. I also haven't done my tax returns (I know), is that something I should do first before any of that? My family life isn't great so I really don't have a lot of help. I'd just like some guidance in what to do since I've never done any of this before. I live in Arkansas by the way if that effects any laws. If there is a better subreddit I should post this to, please let me know.

Insurance trying to settle before bills are even in...what to do?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 04:26 PM PDT

I went to the ER after a car accident. The outcome was not severe but I may need some physical therapy to treat whiplash and back pain. This will require some time-off work.

Insurance tried to settle for 7500.

I was rear ended, there's a police report and it's obvious I was not at fault. We both have full coverage.

My friends are telling me to hire an attorney but this seems like a pretty open and shut case. I just need them to pay for my medical bills and time-off work. Should I try to negotiate with the insurance and ask them to pay all these fees? I think the ER visit will be around 7K without my insurance, including other medical bills so I think it's fair to settle at 15K. That's basically double what they suggested, so I don't want to alarm them....But if my medical bills are not covered and time-off work then I would be tempted to go to an attorney.

Also i was wondering if discounted rates provided by my health insurance apply when in a car accident? I just realized my bills may be less than what I anticipated if the discounted rates do apply but I'm not sure.
