Health Insurance in extremely expensive and I'm really trying to justify the cost (USA) Posted: 01 Nov 2021 12:24 PM PDT I'm recently self-employed for a couple of months now which means I need to look into my own health insurance. I'm in NYC if that helps. However what I've seen on the marketplace is upwards of $600 a month, plus I'd be paying the cost of visit, plus any copayments. As a young adult who is relatively healthy and rarely goes to the doctor I just find it hard to justify that cost. I don't understand the system we have in the US. If you're already paying high fees per month that should also cover anything you do at the doctor. How have y'all been able to justify it? It especially feels like it'll hurt knowing giving away hundreds of dollars per month and don't need medical regularly. I just need it in the event of. [link] [comments] |
Need to fire an employee, how should I do it? Posted: 02 Nov 2021 05:01 AM PDT Own a small and growing business in an employment "at will" state. We hired an employee a couple months ago that was supposed to be extremely overqualified for a position in our company. They've proven difficult to train the past couple months and still are unable to manage tasks required of them without supervision. They're also not able to handle basic client meetings and their attitude is pretty bad with clients when speaking over the phone or in person. I can just tell it's a bad fit and I'm looking for their replacement. The thing is I haven't had a performance evaluation with the employee because I don't like confrontation and I can tell this person's personality would make them harder to work with after getting that kind of feedback. I'd like to just let them go, offer a bit of severance to be fair and give them time to find a new job. What should I take into consideration? Do I need to have the performance evaluation first before letting them go? I'd prefer to not waste anymore time with them and go straight to another person that might be a better fit, can't change personalities from a sit down. - No employment contract - W-2 of course - Has been working for 5 months [link] [comments] |
Feedback needed for free small business app Posted: 02 Nov 2021 04:37 AM PDT This started as a side project but decided to release it after completion. I do need feedback what you'd like to see more (or less) from the app as a small business owner. The app is for tracking sales and expenses, and gives basic reporting based on that data. Before I go crazy and add a ton more features, getting feedback from actual users first would be nice and really appreciated: https://landing.dailysalesexpensesapp.com/ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2021 05:28 AM PDT I look around and see a ton of businesses and I wonder how the hell are they even open? I've done surveys to gauge interest and there was not one person that said it wouldn't work. Where do I do to get funding for my business that's not a bank? Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
Credit card fraud.. Square asking for refund Posted: 01 Nov 2021 10:55 PM PDT I own a very small company (in US) that provides remodeling services. Recently we did a couple of jobs for a property management company. They paid by credit card for both jobs. The first payment happened a couple of weeks ago and we received the funds in our bank account. The second payment happened today. Shortly after the second payment happened, we got an email from Square (our credit card processing service) that they suspect that both transactions were done using a fraudulent credit card. They asked me to answer a bunch of questions, which I did. Then a few hours later, I received another email from Square that says, "After reviewing the information you provided, we believe that the recent payments shown below are part of a stolen credit card scam and will likely result in a payment dispute." So at this point, Square is basically asking for two things.
Is there anything I can do at this point? Can I stop them from debiting our bank account? Also, can we not issue a refund? What will be the consequence if we were to do these? [To provide full context... the company that used our service is an out of state property management company. At this point, I still don't know whether they are a legit company or not, I'll have to inquire about that later. The services we provided were local. The PM company that hired us does have a website and the person I communicated with on the phone even has an email address with the company's name in it.. like name@company.com. Additional info: The customer made both payments online after I emailed them the invoice through Square website.] [link] [comments] |
Starting a dropshipping business in Switzerland Posted: 02 Nov 2021 04:47 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm about to open a dropshipping store in Switzerland but I need fast shipping and reliable suppliers in Europe, China or worldwide as soon as I get the products within 2-3 weeks. Any advice where to find any reliable suppliers? [link] [comments] |
Working with Spouse when you're the boss Posted: 01 Nov 2021 08:49 AM PDT I hired my husband into my small business a couple years ago (about six years after founding) because it was growing and I needed help. He started out handling minor administrative stuff and his role has expanded. It's nice to have someone I can trust, but I never wanted a business partner. I am generally transparent with my employees, but he undermines some of the bigger issues so now I feel trapped in a partnership I didn't want. I own 100% of the business and it's in a field that is my profession. Anyone have experience avoiding this power struggles? (They are a normal amount of conflict over decision making in a marriage, but I don't want that at work that's why I work for myself!) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Nov 2021 07:52 PM PDT I want to make a product but need a co-packer to help, do they need a certain amount of orders to make the product, do they charge you, or do they just take a percentage? Are there any co-packers that make things out of metal? [link] [comments] |
Banking in a different state than the business location Posted: 01 Nov 2021 07:17 PM PDT Hey, so I started doing business in Iowa and I live in California. I want to file my business in Iowa. I don't do business in California. Will filing my business in Iowa stop me from being able to open a business credit and checking account in California? I bank with Bank of America. Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
GoogleVoice Personal vs. Business: Account Suspension? Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:44 PM PDT I have a personal Google Voice account I use for a small business. It will get suspended once every few months after I send out only a handful of messages to those who are on a long waitlist to be contacted. Inevitably, Support always un-suspends the account, but this is still super annoying and I end up out of commission during the time it takes them to review the appeal. I've considered getting a GoogleVoice for business account to avoid this, but I've heard they suspend those accounts for the same reasons (sending multiple, identical messages is what I'm being flagged by their algorithm for as well as occasional links in those messages). Does anyone know if switching to a GoogleVoice business account would solve my problem? Please, help… [link] [comments] |

Working full time and in school while trying to open my business Posted: 01 Nov 2021 10:19 PM PDT Hey fellow Redditors, Just a rant about my situation. Long story short- on paper this is the best outcome situation where I maintain my income, transition into being a businesses owner, and get my education out the way. This ensures all my bases are covered and I'll have everything I need. The problem is I have no time for fun and am stressed and as a result feel I'm losing my creativity/spark. Not sure how on how to proceed. Any advice on how to achieve balance? Should I drop something? Or keep pushing? Any advice is helpful. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2021 09:49 PM PDT I have a product. We sell about 80 of them a week. We could sell 500 a week if just I could reach the right customers. I'm considering going the route of influencer, however my target demographic is 30+ strictly avoiding anyone under that age. I'm not even sure where to start, there's probably a "hire an influencer" subreddit. I have an affiliate marketing program in place on my site using GoAffPro but it hasn't had much activity. Maybe 10 sign ups and not a lot of action, maybe one order. Commission is 10% of the product price which is basically $8. Anyways. Just wondering if anyone has experience hiring an influencer to make a video and post to their channel and subscribers. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:09 AM PDT After multiple phone calls and emails, I feel like the only thing I have left is a chargeback but I've never done one in a personal or professional context. They won't refund. I'm certainly not going through them to get it redone so I'm having to go through someone else. I'll never use what they sent since they didn't do what I told them I needed. I don't want to have to just eat this cost since it's their fault but I just don't know what I can do about it. Edit; Addressed some questions in the comments. [link] [comments] |
I want to try out pet transport, not sure where to start Posted: 01 Nov 2021 07:29 PM PDT So I want to try out a pet transportation business. My current situation is I'm a 20 year old woman living at home, working part time school-part time boba shop. I want to be more independent and financially sustained outside of my parents, who pay for everything for me. I love animals and have deep respect for rescues. I wanted to try out pet transport (rescues, vets, personal, etc.) with my own vehicle, but turns out the best way to do it is to start your own business where your the sole owner and driver. I have 0 experience with business, and I'm not sure where to go to start the process of creating a brand. The things I've looked up online say it's easy to start one, but I'm lost on where to go to register things like business name, ein, taxes, etc. I'm also unsure how to address taxes because I've never had to pay them before (still a dependent at home). How do I start this business? Could really use the advice and help! Thanks :)) [link] [comments] |

Tax Withholding for Dependent Employee? Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:18 PM PDT I'm trying to figure out how I should treat a minor employee who is a dependent. Every google search I try only tells me how an employee should treat his/her dependents! The employee will make less than $4000 this year. She just started last month and tomorrow is payday. The employee's parent asked how much I will be withholding from her paycheck. I thought she would receive the full amount and wasn't planning to withhold anything. Can anyone help me out with some good resources to figure out how much to withhold? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
How to pay your initial capital investment back to yourself? Posted: 01 Nov 2021 08:18 AM PDT I have already started my own single member LLC and have made an initial capital investment in the form of a personal check written to my LLC. How can I take this back out and deposit it back into my personal account? This is not taxable, I would hope? It seems like it would be as simple as writing myself a check, but I imagine there are a few more things to it like proper categorizing, etc. [link] [comments] |
Which way to handle insurance? Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:01 PM PDT I've got 2 full-time employees and I'd like to offer them insurance. I've been in touch with a couple of brokers/agents and have gotten an average cost. And have figured my employer percent. Question is, what's the better option: me filing the policies? Or raising their salaries to cover my portion and letting them take a policy. Of course, with quarterly or biannual proof the policies are in effect. Also, is there really a difference when it comes to 'the business'? [link] [comments] |
