Looking for suggestions on an entry level sales position with no degree required.

I am wanting to switch career paths. I am currently a server, always have been. I did attend college on and off, but dropped out during COVID. The first year of the pandemic pushed me to reflect on the importance of time, and just how fickle it is. I ultimately would like to own my own business one day, but it takes money to make money. I have started playing with the idea of going into sales. One of my tables happened to offer me a position as a "financial advisor" for their company. We didn't have time to go into detail, so I didn't know much about the job. They took down my contact info and called me in for an interview today. I had no idea what I was walking into, but I am desperate to try something new so I went. The company was hiring agents to sell insurance (Primerica). Luckily I was able to see past their poorly put together presentation. It was so staged and smelled scam all over it. Anyways, despite the fact that didn't work out, I am still tossing out my line into anywhere in the ether to find a new path.

So, Reddit. Give me your pitch. Who do you work for? Will they hire someone who has only service industry experience? What's the pay like? Letta sista know.

TLDR; Ready for something new. Looking for suggestions on sales companies that will hire without experience or degree.

    Sales Tools questions

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 03:31 PM PST

I'm a senior Sales Manager in the 3PL and contract logistics space and looking for feedback on the below.

We're looking to build a management Dashboard that tells me what my team and I need to look at, rather than go searching for it. If you have examples could you share or topics you include? Drivers, triggers etc. for example customers who have up/down traded in the previous day/week by x%

We're also on the hunt for a simple Sales focused CRM. Sales Force is too complex with too many 'features'... All we need is Opportunity Management, recording of interactions (webex, phone, email etc) and Client contacts. Bonus is integration with Freshdesk.

Putting some horsepower into finding the right solutions and appreciate any input you may have.

    Best option for resume update?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:00 PM PST

About to start my first sales job hunt and want to make sure my resume is right for it. Just wondering if anybody in this sub has any advice on who the best in the biz is. I've toyed around on LinkedIn and found a few people who charge anywhere from $70-$500.

Is LinkedIn my best option for this or maybe something like fivver?

My coworkers puts their name on sales when I ask for help with customers.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:20 PM PST

I recently got hired as part time at a furniture shop. The Area is gigantic and there's so much I have to learn by heart from what textile/ skin works on said product to how to plan out their couch/ new chair.

Little to say, i'm not there yet when it comes to knowing everything and still need/ prefer a coworker to look over the paperworks before we close the deal, but this comes at a cost and its bothering me so much im struggling relaxing without remembering all the sales ive lost.

When we're working on a product with good gross and I ask for help, they'll so often swiftly log in on their name resulting in them taking the sale. Doesn't matter if im already logged in or how long theyve been helping me- if they recognize what the customer is buying im donzo.

Is this normal? The hourly salary is already good and the commission isn't all too high, but I feel like im being taken advantage of because im new. Im filled with thoughts and frustration and I dont know if im in the wrong.

    I need some career advice...

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 05:24 PM PST

    Hello!

I'm looking for some advice/perspective because I'm feeling pretty low and hopeless right now.

TL;DR - I don't like my job and I have been considering quiting to find a new job, but I'm not sure if it's the industry I don't like or sales in general. I am truly open to any advice or input you all have to offer.

I graduated this Spring (May 2021) with a BS in Marketing and Sales and I started for a transportation broker in Inside Sales (~6 months ago). I'm in my 4th month on the floor and I've been at 100% quota, but I'm constantly told that "those are your minimums and you should be 2 months ahead".

I make $44.5k salary + OTE of 13.5k commission is your on track. We're paid every 2 weeks and commission is paid on the 2nd paycheck.

Things that have been getting to me/I dislike: - 6 people have left since I've been there (started at15 people) and coworkers talk about quitting all the time - Coworkers dick around and are still more successful than me even though I work a lot harder - I work with a team (people who find the trucks) that I don't trust and this affects my confidence in the service I'm selling and my ability to deliver. They have known service failures, but there's nothing to really do about it. - I don't believe in what I'm selling - I like talking to people, but I hate cold calling - I work 9 hours a day and have a 45 minute minium commute one way, so I feel like my life revolves around work and now it gets dark at 1700, so I can't even go for walks anymore.

I could go on, but this is already long...

There are some perks (lunch on Fridays, boss being willing to fund ideas to motivate the team, etc.), but everyday I wake up and think "Fuck, do I really have to do this again?" I try to motivate myself to put in the work, but I find myself looking for excuses to leave the office (bathroom, leave for lunch even though it's just to sit in my car).

My original plan was to stay here for a year, get some experience, and then dip, but fuck man. I just don't know if I have it in me. Seasonal depression is not helping either.

My fear is that I've been there for so little time that I don't know if anywhere would want to hire me. I also don't know if I should stay in sales or if I should leave to go into another industry. Is this just corporate life in America? Am I just complaining without realizing what I have? Any advice or input is welcome.

Career advice - Big tech AE role or Sales Management at Start up

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:28 PM PST

Hi all, I'm evaluating two offers and I'm at a crossroads so I decided I try and get some advice from Reddit.

I've done well in sales at a SaaS company going from SDR to AE to SDR Management. I felt I hit a wall and wanted to move away from managing a SDR team so I got a couple of offers.

The first is at a big tech company (think Microsoft/Salesforce/Adobe) for an AE. This would be an AE/individual contributor role and has a great comp plan. It would pay about ~$60K more.

The second role is a Sales Manager for a late stage startup? company. They're not offering equity (unsure why really) and it pays less. That said, I feel like this role could possibly set me up to be a Director/VP down the road. I would be managing a small team of 3-5 reps.

I'm undecided because the big company offer pays a good amount more but the smaller company would possibly give better or more interesting experience. I'd appreciate any advice or if anyone has been a similar situation, I'd love to hear it.

    Botching role plays

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:18 PM PST

I KEEP botching role plays. I get so damn nervous I don't know why. I'm three weeks in on my first sdr job and I just fucking hate role play. On the actual calls I'm mostly fine. Ya I'll stumble a bit here and there but I can find my way back. But role playing in front of my manager and the other new hires? Can't do it. Anybody experience this?

    Opinion on Demand Science?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 07:42 PM PST

Currently in the interview process for a SDR position, it's rated very well on repvue but I can't seem to find many personal reviews. I was wondering if anyone here had an opinion/experience with them?

I’m new to sales and have an Interview coming up. Any tips or advice?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 06:52 PM PST

For context it's a Mobile Phone store in Canada and I'm applying for a sales rep position. For the interview what types of questions are they going to ask and what answers are they looking to hear. Any keywords or phrases they're listening for would help a lot. Thanks a ton

Cold mailing packaged and prices greeting cards to potential stockists?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 05:35 PM PST

I have a small watercolour illustration business that I have been running for over two years that includes a greeting card line and custom commissions. I handpaint all the designs for my greeting card line and have a number of stockists but my goal for 2022 is to gain more stockists.

I don't have any marketing/sales experience, I am just a young person with a creative business trying to make it work. I recently had an idea to 'cold mail' (if thats even a thing) potential stockists with three different greeting cards, packaged and with a pricing sticker attached (avg price stockists sell my cards for). All the owner would have to do is place it on the shelf, watch it sell and hopefully prove to them it's worth ordering with me.

I would include an introduction card, specs sheet, order form and contact details in the package. I plan to send out to 50+ stockists.

Is this a constructive marketing idea? Just trying to think out of the box here and so far, successful sales happen when the retailer can feel and see the greeting card. Any feedback would he helpful.
