I hate sales, and I feel like I am stuck in my position

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:09 AM PDT

Right now I'm an Account Manager at an enterprise SaaS company, mainly handing renewals but also managing new business for existing clients. Started as an SDR for 2 years and am now finishing up my second year as an AM. I have total impostor syndrome, and I feel like I suck at this job (hit about 95% of quota last year and will do about the same this year) but my company keeps promoting me and giving me sizable raises.

I am not a sales person by nature. I am pretty introverted in general and I can handle deals that come to me (working with a team), but I am not doing any outbound prospecting. I want to change careers, but I have no idea how I can. My degree was in science and tech but at this point it's basically worthless, and I have no business experience outside of the sales roles I've worked for 4 years.

What could I even do if I left sales? The money is really good right now and is hard to walk away from, but I really don't even know what choices I have. Anybody here been in sales, hated it, and done something else?

If it helps, I have no intention of ever running my own business or going back to school.

Anyone sell to the Federal Government?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 07:19 AM PDT

I work in SLED sales now, but in state and local government.

Does anyone here sell into the Federal government? Do you enjoy it? What is your OTE like? Can you do your job successfully in a remote role?

Also, can anyone recommend solid software companies that sell into the Fed space?

    Cheers.

Senior Acct Manager in NYC Salary?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:56 AM PDT

Considering a job offer from a startup that is requiring relocation to NYC to be "hybrid" (work from home and going into the office intermittently). What would you consider a good salary to be for a Senior account manager position? I have 6 years work experience, 4-5 years in account management.

    No-nut-November got me angry dialling

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:48 AM PDT

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Just 24 hours into NNN and I'm literally raging at my prospects.

Don't think my body is used to having this level of backed up testosterone (usually nut 5x a day WFH, 2-7 when in office depending on weather and traffic etc) so yeah I'm absolutely furious and won't take no for an answer.

Thinking of using something to calm me down a bit as the nerves / agro / fight or flight response to even a lack of email responsiveness is ruining my life today.

Had a poor October. Wasn’t in the best of mental health. Now it’s November and I need to get back on track to make cold calls. Anxiety is killing me though. Any tips?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:51 AM PDT

In b2b wireless sales. October was overall a write off for me as I was severely struggling with my mental health. I'm still anxious but need to get back on track. I know I need to pick up the phone and just start dialing. No other way. But still, anything else? I just want to hear from the folks here. Thanks in advance.

    SDR Advice -- 50K Base 80K OTE

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 09:22 PM PDT

I work at a fast growing start up selling 5G equipment to commercial real estate owners (owners of apartments, offices, hotels, etc). I have set amazing meeting with some of the largest owners of real estate in the country and their CTOs, CIOs, and VPs of IT. My job is to bring in qualified leads which I am able to do, but not always to the high goals the company has. We have multiple deals going (and are looking to expand in their portfolio), and have closed over 5 bringing in roughly $2 million. I have been in this role for 1.5 years and feel I should been given a raise. They hired the second salesperson in my role and they haven't been able to do 10% of what I do. They also hired someone who they gave the title senior to, when I clearly am the senior on our team.

How long do you recommend staying in this role? Am I being underpaid?

    Thank you for your feedback.

Can you be remote for your entire sales career?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:21 AM PDT

I'm still in college. Looking to break into SaaS sales when I graduate. I have zero interest in working from an office. Is it possible to be remote for your entire sales career?

Leaving job and worried my boss won't pay me my commissions from the last 2 months.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:57 AM PDT

Giving my boss my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. We are paid commission 2 months after that month. IE: In October (10/15) I was paid my commissions from August.

I know that my boss did not pay out commissions he owed to a couple of employees that he let go. Fired them in July and did not pay them their commissions from May or June. He did it for a person who left but sent an email to everyone so we could all see how "generous" he was being.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this? There is nothing about it in our employee handbook or any company document.

I am an inside sales rep so my commission is a percentage of the outside reps that I assist. My last 2 months were pretty big (for me at least) so I would be missing out on about $18k for the 2 months. My main concern is that it will come as a surprise to my boss and I am not sure how he will respond.

    Setting A Fair Commission Structure?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:35 AM PDT

    Hello /r/sales

I'm trying to establish a new commission structure in my business in order to hire on more talent to increase sales revenue.

I mostly hire overseas virtual assistants where the average wage ranges from $500/M to $1,000/M. So far their performance has been great and they are pretty happy with their salaries.

However, now I want to look into hiring sales rep overseas and work with them on a commission only basis.

I sell services that range from $500 all the way up to $10,000+.

I'm wondering what would be the appropriate commission to provide to where both parties are fairly compensated in this scenario.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Is D2D energy sales a bad job? Is it me? I need advice

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:55 AM PDT

I won't get into specifics, but i'm a 23 year old male who worked for a D2D company and went around my state knocking on doors with the goal of switching people to a new energy supplier.

I ran into an opportunity where I could be my own boss still selling energy with a bigger (strictly commission) payout, so I quit, brought a small team with me, and now I lead a small team selling energy.

Since I've quit I've made less sales, my team has low PMA (positive mental attitude) and I'm struggling to keep them here. So I guess my question is how do I improve my sales doing D2D energy? How do i keep my employees happy and how do I get them to improve their sales?

How do I succeed? All advice is appreciated. thanks.

Can I request for a quota relief?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:22 AM PDT

So from the past couple of times I have been on this subreddit, I have received really useful and kind messages on how to approach my quota goals within my 3 month probation period - which ends this month.

I am less worried than I was before because I have been applying to others jobs just in case I don't pass. However it has got me thinking about a couple of things:

    • Is it possible to ask for quota relief?

As I have said on a previous subreddit, my predecessor ( who has around 25 years experience on me) told me upon me reaching out to him that my quota for someone new in the Saas field is extremely difficult and that I will need significant ramp up time to adjust ( around 6 months) especially with the product I'm selling. Not to mention that I am the sole sales rep at the company.

Having said this, can I mention this to my boss? The predecessor made it clear to temper my boss's expectations, which I have found very difficult - borderline delusional positivity let's say.

    • Is it possible to pass probation even though I have not reached my target?

My boss has been putting pressure on me recently to hit my target of 2 demos for the product I'm selling. On the surface, this should be simple considering all the responses on r/sales on other topics I have read. However I have found this to be nothing but. I have heard sales bosses put pressure on their delegates even though they know it's a difficult market out there. Is this true? Or is my job is in real danger and I need to carry on my search?

Thanks guys - really appreciate the help I have received here.

Feedback on these follow up emails

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 07:34 AM PDT

This prospect is super important to me. It would save my business. I want to make sure it's perfect. Or if there's any universally accepted sales tips or tricks I could add in there.

    The one i wrote:

    Hey ******,

Typically after a week I send follow up emails to unresponsive prospects.

I understand you're either very busy or your business needs have changed.

Please let me know the status of your interest either way.

    Thanks!

My friend said it sounded too aggressive / weird. He suggests:

    Hey *****,

It's been more than a week since we've had an update.

If your needs have changed please let me know.

    Thanks!

How To Build A Multi-Million Dollar Sales Funnel

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:17 AM PDT

A great funnel can generate you millions, but how? Here's a complete breakdown:

    STEP #1 : Offer a freebie

    A) Freebie has to be of high-value!

    B) An e-book works very well.

    C) The freebie must have a hook.

    D) Make it super easy for people to access & obtain.

    Step #2 : Offer a mid-ticket

    A) Offer a passive service at mid-range price.

    B) Give them a chance to understand more about your brand!

    C) This must be a step closer to your personality, e.g: A virtual conference.

Step #3 : Upsell or Downsell

    A) If the lead rejects step 2, offer a smaller cost service.

    B) If the lead accepts step 2, offer chance for VIP - Premium.

    C) Example Upsell: Premium access to conference + extras ($347)

    D) Example Downsell: Recordings & notes from conference ($67)

    STEP #4 : THANK YOU + EXTRAS

    A) Time to thank lead for purchases + offer extras.

    B) Put the lead on a mailing list to continue nurturing them.

    C) Offer bonuses which range low to middle price.

    D) Focus on high customer satisfaction.

AWS or Abbott? Clueless college student looking for advice!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 10:01 AM PDT

Hello, I have been fortunate enough to have been offered sales internships at AWS and Abbott. This sub has been a huge help to me and is the reason I've been able to land these internships, so thank you.

This will be a long post, so I appreciate anyone who reads it.

I am looking for guidance from all the experienced sales reps on here as to which company I should choose to intern at.

The pay at AWS is better, but I am more concerned with long term impact. I do not want to work in sales forever, I would like to either go into a solutions consulting or solution architect type of role, or maybe product management. I would also be interested in sales management.

I understand they are two different companies. I have a background in health sciences so I feel like I may be able to do more at Abbott. I'm not sure how much that matters though.

AWS seems to be the more prestigious option and I understand it may be hard to break in after I graduate.

    What would you do?

I’m 50 with 15 yrs exp. Too old for an AE role?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:51 AM PDT

Just got offered an AE role $150 /$225 OTE at a major PaaS. I've been at a SMB doing sales and marketing in the same field.

I have the domain knowledge and this seems like a good culture fit but I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into here. Will I hate this?

I currently have three direct reports in sales and service. My job is very chill and non stressful but it is kinda boring.

    Concealing age from employer

    Posted: 01 Nov 2021 11:22 PM PDT

I'm about to start a new AE role and curious how I can be careful about revealing my age (currently 24). My previous employer was taken back by my age after I signed HR docs and my director admitted it impacted her decision not put me up for a promotion. Shitty, but hey - learn and get better.

So how can I go about avoiding this type of bias in the future? I present much older, have good experience, and can walk the walk. Just don't want age hanging over my head when it's not what defines me.

Maybe I'm too insecure? Lemme know what you think.
