Had a fender bender and the guy gave me his AAA membership instead of insurance

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 12:55 PM PST

I was stupid and a bit shaken up when it happened. It is the first accident I've been in. The guy gave me his driver's license and his AAA membership card. I thought AAA does have insurance, so it must be ok, but looking at it now clearly, I think it's just roadside assistance.

Can I still make a claim with just his driver's license? Should I give him the benefit of the doubt and go to his address on his DL and let him know he gave me the wrong document? What would you do in this situation?

    Thank you for any advice.

    Edit: I'm in California

Edit2: I called my insurance and I'm hoping he actually has insurance with AAA. Thank you for the responses. It has eased my mind a little. Hopefully, there's not a next time, but if there is, I know now to ask for more information.

Am I getting a raw deal? - State Farm Agent Team Member

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 11:00 AM PST

so i've been working as an agent team member for about the past 6 months and I feel am I not being fairly compensated for the amount of work I put into the position. I'm licensed in property casualty as well as life and health. My agent generally comes in a few hours late-leaves a few hours early and I am almost always here 9-5. Nice guy and is flexible with my hours if I need to take off for doc appointments etc., but i am essentially running the office by myself when he isn't here. My yearly salary is 28k plus commission but the commission rates are only about 5% with goals required of 8 raw new cars and $5000 in premium for HO which I have yet to hit. meaning i've lost close to $1000 in commission since beginning and not hitting that goal. All in all I make about $2300-2500 which is not ideally what i'd like to be making. I don't know how much SF agents make themselves off commission but I just have a feeling that I should be getting more than 5% since I am doing all the legwork.

has anyone else worked for a SF agent and what kind of commission/base salary were you making? Is there a better insurance company to work for or a different route that I can take given that i've only been selling insurance for about 6 months?

any and all advice is appreciated!

    Failure to inspect vehicle?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 05:09 PM PST

So I got sideswiped and I have video proof, I had another accident earlier and just got an email from geico that they deny that claim because I never got my car inspected since 2017 which I have for years, my question is if I am not at fault for the accident will the other parties insurance not cover the damages because they say I never had my car inspected? I am in NYC by the way.

UPDATE: Took my child to the ER to get stitches. Insurance is not paying the bill because the Dr. who stitched him up was out of network and now we must pay $1,750. What are our options?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 06:31 PM PST

    Original Post

First off, thank you to everyone who replied originally and wished our son well! He is recovered and none the wiser.

We are in Florida and have Blue Cross / Blue Shield.

After the advise from the original post, it appears our situation firmly falls under House Bill 221 of the Florida Statute (Link: Florida House Bill 221). We aren't lawyers, but going to an in-network hospital, being treated by an out-of-network doctor, having the insurance company cover 0%, and having the doctor balance bill for 100% seems to fall in line with the house bill summary. If we are reading it correctly, according to the summary the insurance company and the out-of-network doctor need to work out a deal to pay for emergency services and balance billing the insured is not permitted.

We started with the insurance company who flat out said "There is nothing we can do, you need to contact the doctor's office." We quoted the house bill and they didn't bat an eye.

We then reached out to the doctor's office who word for word said "Not my problem." When we quoted the house bill and stated they were acting illegally by balance billing the insured, they repeated it wasn't their problem. When we asked for the copy of the correspondence between doctor's office and the issuance company, the doctor's office refused to provide any further information and said "it was our responsibility to talk with the issuance company".

According to the bill, the doctor's office can be reported to the Florida Department of Health. Who would we report the issuance company to? Getting a lawyer for a $1,750 medical bill seems silly as we would spend more in legal fees.

Has anyone dealt with this before? I feel like its two big guys verse one little guy and we have no realistic out.

    Insurance questions?

    2. This insurance company function has the job of estimating future losses and calculating an appropriate amount to charge insured?

3.This insurance companies function takes the insurer's collected premiums dollars and select financial assets (bonds, real estates, stocks,) that may generate profit for insurer?

Got into a minor accident, both agreed to just deal with it without insurance. Should I report it to my insurance company?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 06:10 PM PST

As title says. It was a minor accident and we both agreed to just deal with it ourselves without having to deal with insurance since we both could have avoided that. The guy didn't give me any of his information and I left just happy that it was fairly minor, I'm a young male so I know my insurance rates would skyrocket, and I've never been in an accident before. His car was totally fine. In my shock, I forgot to get his license plate. Auto body shops quoted me about $1000-$1200 for the total repair cost and I'm okay with paying that out of pocket. Should I still contact my insurance and let them know about the collision, or should I just fix my car and move on? I'm in NYC (New York). Would this raise my rates just by reporting the collision?

Hit someone's parked car and accidentally drove off - what can I expect from insurance?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 05:35 PM PST

Okay, I know this is completely my fault. I've never been in a situation like this so I panicked. Some guy saw me and he started taking pictures of me so I got nervous and drove off.

Police came later and explained that it was reported. He said it was very small damage (like a small but noticeable nick. I had some smudges on my car but I didn't think it was that "bad", and the cop said I got the worse end of it damage-wise).

That said, he said the other person wasn't looking to do anything crazy - just wanted to exchange insurance. I'm very much aware that this is my fault. I'm gonna chalk it up now that I kind of have to and learn from it. I just want to know what I should expect to happen. Will my rates go up? Do I have to pay anything? I assume it was very slight damage like I described before. Nothing more than a few nicks on a black truck. I'm 17 and don't really know about this.

I read that this is a hit and run. I just hope that the other person can be understanding (even though this is my fault). I just fucked up that's all

probably less than $1000 if his damage was less than my own.

    Cheapest car insurance?? I’m 24

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 05:17 PM PST

How do I dispute fault determination with Insurance? Does this seem like it’s my fault?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 05:02 PM PST

I apologize in advance cuz this is probably going to be a lot. 😓 So I got into an accident late last month. Me and another driver, I'll refer to her as D, we're both in the second to left most lane. It's rush hour so cars aren't moving very fast at all. The lane we were both in was traveling about 5 mph at max. I signaled and had been signaling for about 30 seconds waiting for a spot to open in the left lane, as it was the exit lane it was much less congested than the others and cars were moving about 20-25 mph. I was watching my mirrors, none of the cars behind me had any indication or blinker they had been intending to change lanes, including driver D who was 2 cars behind me, and when a safe spot opened in the lane to the left, I checked over my shoulder, saw it was clear and pulled out into the lane moving at about the same speed as the flow of traffic.

At the same time D pulls out into that same space, as the car currently in that lane is rapidly closing the gap for her. According to her, she decides there was enough time as long as she floors it.

About 3 seconds after I have started the lane change, and almost all the way into the lane, about 4/5th, she slams into my drivers side rear quarter panel. We both then stop and bother cars briefly scrape along each other.

We pull off and D gets out of the car and immediately starts apologizing profusely, explaining what happened, saying that her insurance is up to date so it shouldn't be a problem.

The impact damage is on her front passenger bumper/quarter panel, and on mine it's on the back quarter panel with the impact right before the crack of the door.

We call my gfs insurance company(i was in her car, Im a covered driver) and their claims department was closed for the day but the person said that if the other driver had admitted fault to file directly with her insurance company. We try and try but Geico is apparently virtually impossible to get on the phone. Neither me nor the other driver are able to get through to her insurance, after attempting for 3 days to speak to someone, being on hold for 2 hours and then having the call hang up. me and D exchanged numbers and were in communication about the attempts to reach the insurance company. She was able to submit photos of her damage online and my gf eventually got through after about 4 days. The next day a person called me up and asked for my statement which I gave. I asked if they wanted photos of the accident, they said I can submit them through their app. I later found out I can't submit anything through their app because I'm not a geico customer. Without seeing any of my pictures they decide that I was 100% at fault because "I should have seen her hit me, if I was being safe" regardless of her admission at the scene or anything.

I think ok not totally crazy for her insurance company to say it wasn't their fault. So we file the claim with my gfs insurance tell them all this, send them pictures of the damage, and after a day or two they call my gf and tell her they determined me to be 100% at fault.

I called Them immediately and asked them how that could be, they told me that because she would have technically been in the lane before I was, she wasn't at fault. I argued that according to California law that making a Lane change without signaling is illegal, and that makes it an unsafe lane change and if someone is making an unsafe lane change at the same time I'm making a safe lane change that they should be at fault. I asked if they asked the driver if they had been signaling or about why they accepted fault at the time, and the insurance guy told me none of it mattered, that they don't determine fault based on criminal matters and it didn't matter if it was illegal for them to change lanes with out a blinker. They said it didn't matter if it was asked because she could just say did signal and that she didn't say that, that it was all here say, and it didn't matter. I asked if I could file some sort of appeal and they told me to email my statements to an email address, but it likely it wouldn't change anything. I asked if they had any way to direct me on obtaining traffic cam video possibly as there was one in the vicinity of the accident, they said they would need to get a judge to sign off a warrant, and they wouldn't do that.

The biggest issue is the other driver is claiming to have 8000 worth of body damage, because it's a 2016 audi, which is different then the insurance info I was given at the scene which was for a 2000 audi. My gfs insurance policy only covers $5000. I'm pissed cuz not only is it going to be a point on my license (or my gfs I'm not sure how it works) but they are also going to raise the insurance rates and I'm going to maybe have to pay 3000 out of pocket!

I've talked to some people I know who own and auto body shop and have adjusters that work there for them and they said that based on the damage and from what I told them it seems like it should be at least 50-50 and that seems like it makes sense to me.

Based off all this, does this seem like the accident is my fault, and what is the best way for me to dispute this finding? I talked with a attorney through legal aid and they advised me to file a complaint with the ca insurance board against geico asking for a 3rd party review or what ever, so I'm doing that. They also told me A regular car accident lawyer wouldn't be likely to take my case on contingency because there wasn't enough damage or financial gain to get from it. So I'm on my own, how do I contest the findings through my gfs insurance? Is it possible? Any tips on writing the complaint?

Sorry for that being so long 😅 Thanks for any tips or input. I appreciate it a lot!

[US-CO] I was rear-ended. I have no visible damage, but I am concerned about my frame potentially being bent. How should I proceed?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 04:58 PM PST

Background and some interesting drama: I was rear-ended on Saturday by a driver that didn't have a drivers license. He begged me to not call the cops to make a report stating that we could just swap insurance and be on our way. However, I was skeptical about his insurance because he didn't have a license and called the police anyway and made a report. While waiting on the police to arrive, the driver of the other vehicle brings a friend to the scene two which they both give a false statement to the police that his friend was the one driving the vehicle.

I recorded everything on a dashcam, and cleared all of that up with the police. The police told me that he couldn't provide proof of insurance on top of having a suspended license. Glad to get that cleared up.

So, onto the meat and potatoes. The other driver has pretty substantial damage to the front end of his vehicle. I drive a truck and leave my tow hitch installed for this exact reason. There was no visible damage to my truck, but it isn't extremely uncommon for trucks to suffer frame damage from rear end crashes like these, or otherwise have damage that cannot be easily seen without taking a deep dive inspection. When the other driver hit me, my best estimate was that he was traveling around 7-10 mph.

Should I discuss first with my insurance, or take my truck to a third party shop and have it inspected for any damage prior to discussing with my insurance? Will my rates go up if I discuss it with my insurance without filing a claim? Do insurance companies typically send out an adjuster free of charge? Apologies for the ignorance on the topic, this is the first potential insurance claim I have ever filed.

Hit boss’s car in company truck

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 04:55 PM PST

Im a landscaper for a small company in my town. I was backing a smaller dump truck into my boss's driveway where the trucks/equipment is stored while on the clock. I tapped my boss's car leaving a dent on his trunk ( of course it's an Audi). Since I was in a company truck on the clock and driving it to do a task required for the job, would this fall under the companies insurance or would it be the same as if I was in my own car and hit anyone else? Also im on a 1099 because my boss made me to avoid having to do more taxes added to the taxes he already has to do for his employees, so I guess technically im a "sub contractor" being hired out by his company. So how do I go about this?

Negotiating w/at-fault driver’s insurance for totaled moped

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 04:47 PM PST

I'm in the process of negotiation for a totaled moped- they offered me $1500, and that number came from ccc which used 5 "take price" quotes from no less than 1000 miles from me. Of course, in order to get what I want from them I started with a high anchor value and intend to come down 65% from there. However, to back up my ask I need to provide list prices for used scooters of the same make and model within 100 miles of me, but there are 0 of them because it's a 2008 model in great shape, and we're in a used vehicle shortage. So should I just send them example listings of same make and model, but more current year, that is within my area? Use listings from the only kymco dealer in town? The market for scooters is pretty robust but it's hard to say how much that scoot could go for, but I'd bet another 1000 on top of their offer. Should I offer the adjuster listings from different brands that are 2008 with similar mileage in my area? Not sure how to approach the problem, but want to wrap this up soon.

    Arbitration question

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 06:01 AM PST

Rhode Island: I was in an accident in August of this year. Damp roads. Woman cut me off, brake checked me, drove a bit, brake checked me again, rounded the top of the hill on the freeway and suddenly came to a dead stop (( no one in front of her)) Due to the roads being wet, I put my brakes on and slid into her. Not much damage to our vehicles (( no air bag deployment either )) She admitted to the state trooper that she brake checked me, the trooper put it on the accident report. Now it's time for the 'interview' with her for my insurance company because determining fault is difficult.. She denied brake checking me... This is now going to arbitration and the trooper who she admitted it to had to do a sworn statement over the phone. I'm assuming she was found at fault during arbitration because I received a letter from my insurance company that theyr'e unable to retreive my deductible for the party RESPONSIBLE for my loss.... Does that mean they found the other car to be at fault?

The person who hit me is refusing to cooperate with insurance so we can settle and get everything figured out, what can I do?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 03:38 PM PST

I got hit and originally the guy was very cooperative and his insurance sent over all the info in less than 24 hours. Now that it's progressing however he has decided to completely stop cooperating. He's refusing to give my insurance guy a statement meaning we can't get the money for my car or just get it all figured out in a timely manor. Do I have any options besides just waiting by until he decides to talk? It happened in our apartment building so it was private property and police refused to come for a report. Honestly I'm just really needing this figured out so I can start getting a new car.

I got hit and the other person is lying

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 03:08 PM PST

He had his family and they were all obviously lying standing up for the dad and being really smug and laughing.

We were turning left and I was in the leftmost lane and he was in the second from right lane turning left and he just completely comes in my lane and sideswipes the front right of my car before I even leave the front lines. I was blasting my horn watching him hit the front of my car.

To my dismay, he gets out and denies the whole thing and tells the cop I went in his lane. It's going to be really messy I presume and I'm very pissed off.

Any idea what to expect? Any things I should be aware of? If his insurance calls should I even explain the story or will they try to **** me?

I lied to my insurance adjuster about being in the car while my mom was driving

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 02:49 PM PST

    Hello!

I recently moved cities a couple weekends ago. My parents flew out from my home state to help me move. I was in a separate car with my boyfriend while my parents were driving my car to my new house when they got into a small car accident. No one was injured, my mom was driving. When I called the adjuster, I had told them I was in the backseat, but I wasn't in the car with my parents, and the police report filed said there was only 2 people in the car.

The reason I lied was because I was nervous it would be illegal for me to let my mom drive the car with me not in it. I am freaking out now - Should I let the adjuster know that I fibbed? No one in either car was injured (I let him know that neither my parents nor I was injured), and we believe the other car is at fault. Please help. :(

Rear ended by a driver who did not have active insurance . Can I sue her for getting my deductible?

Hi all ! I got rear ended by a driver who did not have active insurance . I had full coverage so and my car has been total loss and I got my payment from my insurance . Thanks to god insurance paid me market value of my vehicle .

I had 1.000$ deductible so insurance cut it from the total loss settlement. Can I sue that person who hit me from the back for my deductible ? Is it worth for time and effort ?

    Thank you in advance

American Citizen able to buy whole life insurance in the UK?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 01:35 PM PST

    Hi all,

If a person vapes but doesn't smoke cigarettes I understand that in the U.S. all life insurance companies will classify you as a Smoker rating. Apparently in the UK, vaping alone does not give a person a Smoker rating for life insurance. Does anyone know if an American Citizen with no other residency or citizenship is able to buy life insurance from a British company? I have no plans to travel there right now, I'm just looking to see if it would be possible to buy whole life insurance from an alien company (such as one in the UK) with a non-smoker rating?

    Thanks for your help!

Dunno if yesterday night in the packed parking lot or by a kid while we were out on truck today. Its a silver civic 2018, scratched black. Was wondering if having full insurance from progressive since still paying the car off would even be worth filing with insurance. I make sure to park away from other cars normally but thanksgiving made parking lot terrible. Tbh I think it happened in my drive way, I didn't notice a scratch when I moved my car.

    Does prior authorization expire monthly?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 11:42 AM PST

Massachusetts, USA. Blue Cross HMO plan.

My neurologist prescribed me Nurtec 2 months ago after my migraine frequency changed (she did an MRI to rule out other causes) and unfortunately Nurtec requires a prior authorization. She filled out the form twice and CVS finally accepted it and submitted to my insurance, no issues. I refilled a few weeks later, again no issues.

When I tried to fill it today, CVS said Blue Cross rejected the claim because there was "no prior auth" but there is one from 2 months ago. The prior authorization for Nurtec is to try 2 other medicines from a list of triptans, and then my doctor signs off that Nurtec is the best option. Since I'm not even supposed to be taking those triptans to begin with, it was an easy auth - or so she thought.

What can I do here to make this easier each time I need a refill?

Unum disability insurance is making me crazy

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 07:42 AM PST

I had open heart surgery. My cardiosurgeon recommended 3 months of recovery.

Despite filling out all of the paperwork, Unum continues to give me the run around.

Some things that have happened: - they have claimed multiple times to have not received paperwork from my doctor. My doctor absolutely faxed it to them. I know because the doctor's office has a record of the fax with the number. Multiple faxes have been sent. I have had to personally upload documents multiple times as they claimed to not get it. - I cannot get through to my claims specialist. Ever. They have their own extension. I call and leave voice mails. They never call back! I end up waiting on hold to talk to another rep. The rep inevitably tells me the wrong thing. It's a game of telephone. - I just don't understand why my physician has had to complete the same form multiple times that states I cannot return to work. It is the same form, just literally filled out with new dates. - they also have their own clinicians who apparently disagree with the assessment?? How??? I had open heart surgery. These people haven't seen me or talked to me. How can they try and deem that I'm ready to go back to work?

I am so frustrated. I'm supposed to be healing and all I can do is continuously stress about requesting extension after extension with these people.

If you are an employer or are considering getting STD with Unum... Don't. They are awful.

When I get back to work, I'm going to report all of this to HR. I doubt I'll get any resolution, but this is so terrible.

Startup children's clothing company, what kind of insurance should we be considering?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 10:55 AM PST

Our first line will be children's pajamas with 6-8 batches of 100 pieces each. My understanding is we'll be required to have a certain policy to get placed with a major retailer, but that's a ways off. We're only in the early stages of the brand and plan on selling direct to consumer via ecomm site and social media. What kind of insurance should we be looking into?

Losing Medicaid soon, and was on my parents' insurance before that. Need advice.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 10:20 AM PST

I have a lot of conditions and don't really know how to pick out insurance plans.

I was on marketplace insurance briefly, and in those 3 months had spent >2000 on just insulin, generic anticonvulsants and the monthly insurance fee. Those are just the things I need to not die and I couldn't afford them. I thought I was picking a plan that was good for my needs and realized quickly that I didn't understand what I had done to myself.

I got a job again after about 2 years on medicaid, SNAP for food and leeching off my gf. I've got pain meds and modern diabetes shit again, but I'm working again and I'm expecting to have to give all that up when I still can't afford it.

What are "realistic" goals for me? I shouldn't expect to still be able to afford insulin pump supplies and CGM sensors right?

And what am I looking for in insurance to not be waist deep in debt after month?

New income about $2000-2400 a month depending on hours.

    Current scripts if that's helpful:

Novolog insulin Keppra Lamictal Tizanadine Dexcom G6 sensors and transmitters Tandem T-Slim cartridges and infusion sets

I just got off the phone with the police and was told that they no longer come for accidents if medical assistance isn't acquired. This was definitely a hit and run, so how do I go about it? Should I file a report at the station? Call my insurance right away? What exactly will happen and how long can it take to repair the car?
