Do you have that “it’s not happening today” sixth sense? Sales and Selling

Do you have that “it’s not happening today” sixth sense?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:19 AM PDT

I feel like I'll sometimes just know before I start dialing that nothings going to pan out. I can makes 100+ calls and still I will know in the back of my mind nothings coming. Even if I come in ready to go with a great attitude, doesn't change. Then other days I just know things will work out, make 10 calls, hit my goals in an hour. It's weird.

Maybe it's just some weird self fulfilling prophecy.

Anyone else experience anything like this? If it's just me, what can I do to get out of this?

How do you overcome the "I need to pray about it" objection if you're an atheist?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:55 AM PDT

I do in-home sales calls and occasionally I'm told "I'm not making any decisions until I pray about it."

The only way I've heard of overcoming this is by offering to pray with them or stuff like that. I'm extremely uncomfortable with that. Any suggestions?

I hit my quarterly goal for qualified meetings last month

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 09:03 PM PDT

No bragging intended, just wanted to celebrate this with a community of like minded people. I'm gunning for a promotion next quarter so I decided to put my foot on the gas and have a bananas Q4 as the cherry on top — not gonna stop booking meetings either!!

Got creamed on my QBR...how to turn things around? I'm stressed, burned out, overwhelmed, and generally feel like an utter failure.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 10:37 PM PDT

I've been in sales for 10 years now. Started as a SDR, and worked up to enterprise sales.
I've honestly felt the imposter syndrome the entire 10 years, but somehow made it to where I am today (couple IPOs at brand name companies -> now at a hot start up).
We hired a new VP and he's great - awesome dude. He brought a bunch of other top sellers and they're all doing well, even with them being in their first quarter.
The thing is though, despite being at this company (tech SaaS in data) for over a year, I'm sucking at this company...I'm the lowest performer. I desperately want to succeed and (short of buying a training course) have been reading a bunch of content, books, and listening to podcasts. I've started to listen to other reps calls and meetings, and have been going through their notes/opps to glean info on what they're doing. I've talked to them too about their deals.
My brain now is overloaded with info. It's absolutely a case of me overthinking everything and a lot of self doubt, so I don't even come off confidently on calls and I even stumble during discovery because I'm trying to find the "right" thing to say.
How do I just...stop to re-orient myself? I have the hottest, untapped region at the company (which I'm struggling to tap into too) so I should be doing much better. All my insecurities burst out today after our QBRs because you could clearly tell the other reps knew their shit way more. I got called out and criticized way more than everyone else.
In trying to figure it out, I'm literally taking questions in our CRM we fill out with our notes (MEDDIC) and throwing them into a question template for myself. I'm hoping this is a good first step, but hoping to hear some feedback. I prospect hard but I know there's room for improvement (i.e. personalized messaging, cold calls) which I need to start doing more of.
I know MEDDIC, Gap selling, challenger, SNAP, SPIN, let's get real or let's not play, and info from the qualified sales leader book...but again, just too much info in my head right now. I've lost sight of who I am as a seller, and it's killing me.
Sorry if I'm all over the place, I don't even know how to describe the problems. I don't know the answer I'm looking for...I feel like I'm in lost in a shit fog. I am tired and burned out due to failing, especially in the last few months. I love helping customers and bringing value and making a difference which is why I stay in sales, but now I'm thinking maybe I should consider quitting. It just feels like I've hit a wall that I don't know how to go over.
Personally, I don't do drugs or drink excessively, but I don't work out and am overweight/tired all the time. I also have an infant son (5months) and have dealt with depression my entire life (but taking meds/go to counseling so good there).
Maybe my desperation to succeed is killing me here...I don't know what to do. I need to do well, considering my wife doesn't work at the moment either. I have a lot in savings and such but my emotions have trampled over logic because I don't want to leave this company or get fired. I do believe in the product and mission...I just can't seem to f'ing sell well right now.
Please...does anyone have advice? Anyone go through something like this before? How did you come out of it?

Thinking about a switch from current position to BDR Manager for Oracle NS. Thoughts?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:07 AM PDT

    Hi all,

First time poster here! I wanted some advice and guidance on a switch to the SaaS world. Currently, I run sales for a smaller non-tech company with a few locations and a few outside sales reps with 10M-20M in annual sales and growing YoY for over a decade.

I've recently applied to a BDR Management position for Oracle NetSuite (currently a few steps in to the interview process) in hopes of finally breaking my way into the tech market. I'm nervous about the switch (if offered of course) as I'd be jumping from basically a mom and pop wholesale organization to a large tech conglomerate. I'm comfortable with where I'm at, well respected, have a ton of knowledge on my current industry. The BDM money is drastically more base and MUCH more when hitting OTE and I think the training and resume builder of Oracle NetSuite would be awesome for career progression moving forward.

In my current position, I feel as though I'm tapped out in terms of upward mobility, financial growth, and overall just tired of working in an understaffed start-up-esque mom and pop environment. I have one job but also do what feels like 10 others (as is typical with large mom and pops).

Am I mistaken for thinking that this opportunity is huge and I would be stupid not to take it if offered? I'm afraid of thinking the grass is greener when it may not be. Afraid of a turn and burn environment. Call it anxiety or call it maybe wanting to stay comfortable, not sure!

Any advice, thoughts, help, etc. is appreciated. If anyone has been a BDR or BDM within Oracle NS or Oracle in general, lets me know what it like (I've read some mixed reviews)!

    ZoomInfo/Salesforce/SalesNav workflow

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:16 AM PDT

    Hi sales gang!

I'm in my second day of training as a B2B SaaS BDR. I was SO overwhelmed by the tech stack at first but things are beginning to make sense!

Right now I need to focus on learning how to efficiently prospect and update accounts/contacts using ZoomInfo, SalesNav and Salesforce.

I can already tell a dual monitor setup will be super helpful.

Any advice toward this end would be greatly appreciated!

HVAC sales- What does your compensation look like?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:09 AM PDT

This is my first year of sales with the company and right now I've been making base of $45k/yr with 5% commission on sales with a company gas card and mileage reimbursement ($0.54/mile).

Just spoke with the owner of the company, and their planning on changing the sales pay structure to a lower base and higher commission. Unknown at this point what those numbers will be.

I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but I'm curious to see what other people in the industry are making to compare what my new pay scale will be and see if I can get any negotiating power.

    Thanks!

Edit: Should probably add that I'm in Residential

I've been offered a job- do I negotiate salary?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:39 AM PDT

I've been offered a job, the salary is what they advertised. Should I still negotiate as I have many more years of experience than the post asked for? I feel it's expected for me to ask for 20% more.

Quit my job, uprooted and moved to a new state. I have 7 years experience as a financial advisor (sales experience included) and am exploring a career change to tech sales. Where do I begin?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:12 AM PDT

As the title says, I'm considering tech sales but have no idea where to start. Do I target entry level SDR roles or AE roles as someone who has some sales experience? Is my best bet to target companies in the fintech space since I've worked in that industry previously? How do I best prepare my resume and interviewing skills for this industry?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    LinkedIn Automation

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:28 PM PDT

Hey sales! I'm using Salesloft for semi-automating cadences with emails. I would like to do the same with Zopto for LinkedIn outreach automation.

Has anyone any experience using this?

I don't like being an SDR anymore. Where to go from here?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 12:28 PM PDT

I've been an SDR at a consulting firm for 6 SaaS clients over the last 2 years. While I have consistently been the top-performer within the firm, I'm not sure that I want to be in sales for the rest of my career. The hours, stress of hitting quota each month, and "grind" have worn me down over the last 3-4 months to the point that I'm not happy with my job anymore. I can only imagine it gets worse as an AE.

Currently, I'm taking a look at Sales Ops and Sales Engineering for my next roles. I think my passion really lies in the technical side of products/services, which is why I'm eyeing those roles. Unfortunately, my company doesn't have any positions for an SE or Sales Ops so moving laterally isn't an option.

This is all to say I don't really know where I want to go next or what my options might be. Would love some advice on what directions I can go in.

    Should I make the move?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:41 AM PDT

I'm current a SDR at AWS. I've learn a lot from the role , product, industries and smart/nice colleagues. However the biggest push for me to find alternative career is my direct manager. He doesn't actively work for his members to get promotions (usually promo because of new openings) and during 1:1s, he would focus the 2 negative things rather than the 8 things you've done well. In summary he is a manager that only wants to collect good results for upper management reporting. I felt hostile and stressful until recently, I seek advice from senior sales and I manage my manager better. The manager seems to micro manage less and there's less tension during 1:1s now. Not considering the manager, I would stay..

I am being offered an AE role at a SaaS CyberSecurity cloud company (not as known). The manager seems hands on and nice, OTE increment about 35% and I can focus on closing deals now. But I heard that there's not much room for career progression and I am not too excited with their products. Also the team is new and I am not sure if the stability since the structure is not set up.

Should I take the offer? Stay or stay and look for other companies?

Question about this company called CMC

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:36 AM PDT

Anyone ever worked for Cornerstone Marketing Company before? Is it a scam?

EDIT: For context, this is a company that does a lot of sales for AT&T. The job listing had AT&T and everything. I went through a very short group interview and then now I'm already onto the second stage. Pay seems really good and there's a lot of benefits, but I'm worried it might be too good to be true. Also this company must have popped out of nowhere or something because I could barely find info on it. It might have went under a different name.

I'm good at doing mail merges using Outlook/Word/Excel. However, how do I: Find out which emails have bounced back, and who has opened my messages?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:56 AM PDT

I'm good at doing mail merges using Outlook/Word/Excel. However, how do I: Find out which emails have bounced back, and who has opened my messages?

I know how to do this with GMail using either YAMM (yet-another-mail-merger) and GMass. However, at my company, we use Outlook.

What plugins/extensions/etc. do I need to:

    • Do a mail merge from a spreadsheet
    • Track which emails are no good
    • Track who has unsubscribed
    • Who has opened/clicked?

    Thanks in advance.

I get calls back from prospects but they always want to talk about my car’s extended warranty

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 10:30 AM PDT

Don't know if I'm the only one experiencing this bit whenever I leave my contact information on VM or with a gatekeeper, I always seem to get calls at some point from unknown numbers. "This must be that CFO calling me back", i think to myself. Then I answer the phone and lo and behold yet another executive (they all seem to have robotic voices for some reason) wanting to talk about my cars extended warranty. Like sir, I called to talk about your company's tech stack, let's leave my car out of this.

    SDR Manager Salary

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:20 AM PDT

Hey everyone! I have been looking at SDR Manager roles but there doesn't seem to be much good data on expected salary. I have seen it range from $60k-90k with OTE of $110-120. Anyone know what a typical SDR Manager salary would be? Also, the jobs I have been looking at typically the role is in charge of a team between 1-8 SDRs. Thanks!

Need all your help: Why is trying to switch from automotive to tech so hard?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:27 PM PDT

So, I've sales experience of over 10 years and am a Director of Sales & Financial Insurance at my present dealership I'm working.

I am presently trying to switch my career and industry of focus more to the tech side and so far it has been unsuccessful.

I have applied over 50 places, even going so far as to apply for entry level SDR positions but to no avail.

I am only 29 and I have a wealth of experience in sales.

I do it completely different from most in my industry and apply a customer centric approach of selling.

I can't even get an interview.

Does anyone have advice on what I could do to primarily get to a manager position like an account executive or of an equivalent level in tech?

I know I would be good at it but I'm slowly losing hope.....

Recruiting with a focus on STEM backgrounds?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:05 AM PDT

I come from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) background and often find that:

    1) Technical companies' most successful reps generally have STEM backgrounds (there are exceptions)

    2) Many folks with a STEM background want to get into sales but don't know where to begin

I've helped a lot of people in my network break in and am finding I'm pretty good at it, have past recruiting experience at my companies, etc... Is there a niche that hasn't been explored for a recruiting company to strictly focus on technical companies that exclusively recruits sales people or new grads with STEM backgrounds?

Would love to hear thoughts from people in this niche or those that may be looking to break in. Thanks!

Switching from a hunting to a farming role

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:27 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I've been on the hunting (prospecting and closing) side of sales for a little over three years now, and I can honestly say I don't enjoy the hustle. I've switched to an industry I like more at a much better company, and am doing ok, but I just don't enjoy it. I love working with people, but am over prospecting and closing. I would much rather build relationships and put out fires for accounts than create new ones.

Does anyone have advice on switching from an Account Executive role over to an Account Manager role? I'm going to see if I am able to at my current company, but if not I still want to try and make the change.
