Company making a large donation to charity instead of Christmas gifts and bonuses.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 02:23 PM PST

Title LOL. SaaS company with 300-350 employees and growing. CEO/co-founder announced that they know the companies they've acquired used to give gifts and gift cards for Christmas, but this year, they wanted us to nominate a non-profit and the company will make a large, large donation. All this after no raises and no bonuses during record inflation. How about a donation to my wallet?

My company is giving itself a tax write-off for Christmas this year. Read the fucking room.

It CAN and WILL happen to you!

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:09 AM PST

This subreddit has been phenomenal, both from a guidance and tips perspective. Like many of you, I was let go from what I thought at the time was my dream job at the beginning of the pandemic, where I was working for one of the unicorns in the restaurant technology space. I was a top BDR that was earning 45-50k with base + commission, and got the rug pulled out from under me.

18 months later, I've been a top performing BDR at my current company and had another company try to poach me away for an AE role, which has resulted in two offers that more than double my salary and considerably increase my equity positions.

All of that is to say, KEEP GRINDING! I was dead in the water and smoking weed alone and depressed in my room for 6 months while I was unemployed, and now I'm showing demo's to executives at some of the biggest restaurant companies in America and will easily clear 6 figures next year.

Like the title says, it CAN and WILL happen to you! Much love to every one of y'all

Why is tech sales so not diverse?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:10 AM PST

As title says. I'm in a minority group of US. Interviewed at a large saas company, spent 40 hours preparing for the interview and even met someone else on LinkedIn who got the same job with no sales experience and met up to chat with them about the company and position. All interviewers were white. I am confident I did well interviewing. Needless to say I didn't get the job. In fact, most interviews where my interviewers are all white, I typically don't get the job. I have 10 years of customer facing experience and relevant transferable skills.

This isn't intended to become some anti-anybody type of post. I am curious about the make up of saas sales and tech sales, and why is it so white washed. I mean I really have to search high and low on LI to find a black sales person at, salesforce for example or aws as well. This can't just be an accident. Would love to know thoughts of those in the industry on this matter

NOT INTERESTED, Doesn’t always mean no.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 05:16 AM PST

It means that they haven't found value in your product.

Some objections are textbook smoke screens.

    It creates friction.

It runs down the clock against you.

Remember: a strong answer to the wrong objection makes the objection worse.

Instead, top sellers follow up objections with questions.

Try this: Mirror the last few words of your buyer's sentence posed as a question.

It triggers your buyer to elaborate, which helps you to understand what's really causing the objection.

SDR at large company or AE at medium-sized company?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:28 PM PST

For an entry-level tech position, would it be better to accept an offer for a smaller role at a large company, or an offer for a larger role at a smaller company? The AE position at the smaller company has additional functions such as closing deals and handling warm leads, whereas the SDR role with the bigger company will mainly be generating leads for an AE within the company.

    The two offers are:
Business Development Consultant with Oracle: ~$75K OTE
Account Executive (Inside Sales) with SHI International: ~$65K OTE

    Lost a massive deal

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:42 AM PST

Just got word from the decision maker that they will be going with a competitor. Opportunity was almost the size of my entire quarter.

Been at this company for 7 months now and haven't even come close to hitting quarterly quota due to hyper growth of company and not enough leads coming through. Haven't been PIPd yet but don't see why they wouldn't after this quarter.(still got 2.5 months before it's over)

    Fuck. Shit morning.

How do you recover after neglecting accounts?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:16 AM PST

Hello everyone! Over the last month I became so incredibly overwhelmed with leads, processes and my existing pipeline that I froze.

I'm curious how you pick that ball up with neglected accounts? Do you call them and ask for a follow up meeting? Do you send an email with the next steps that were originally planned?

I'm kind of at a loss for how to recover and would appreciate any advice.

I royally screwed myself with a black Friday sale. Please help

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 10:59 AM PST

I announced 6 weeks of Black Friday, up until the week of Christmas, with each week being a new product category (ie shirts, jackets, shoes).

Well, my sales were better than ever a week ago. Now that I've announced this, I have no sales whatsoever after everyone bought what they wanted on the first day of the sale.

No one's buying ahything from me because they're waiting for it to go on sale. And by the time that week rolls around they probably would've just bought it from someone else.

How the hell do I undo this? Do I just pretend I didn't shout far and wide that I said 6 weeks of Black Friday? What do I do next so I get my sales back? I was thinking 1 individual item goes on sale each day til black Friday, but I feel like that's still not gonna solve the "waiting it out" problem.

Remote AE’s, how do you like it?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 03:12 PM PST

Hey guys, been lurking this sub for a while. I'm about 18 months out of college, and live in a fairly small city in the Midwest ~100K population.

Due to life circumstances, will probably be moving to a larger city in the spring though I'm not sure where yet (GF is applying to grad programs). I've been doing car sales since I graduated but I've been thinking about breaking into SaaS with a remote SDR position (which I understand is a grind). I like my store and am fairly good at my job, but the career trajectory has much to be desired and I'm tired of working Saturday's.

Looking at this career path down the road, how do you remote AE's enjoy your job?

How do I separate personal relationships from business relationships in sales?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 03:06 PM PST

So I'm a BDR doing sales in B2B Cyber Security.

The outside seller I support happens to be a good friend of mine. Here's the problem...

I've brought him two qualified leads that meet 3 of 4 in BANT.

But to him there are still some things that need scheduling, which is why he hasn't accepted it yet in order for the number to count towards my quota.

As the tip of the spear, I've done my job.

I want to address this concern to him, but it's just a very uncomfortable thing to bring up because we are friends, but he's in a way preventing me from hitting my number.

    Advice?

    Cold Emailing then Cold calling

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:28 AM PST

What are your thoughts on first cold emailing a prospect then calling them. I've heard many people do this and have seen really good results. If you do this how do you generally frame the conversation.

On the fence about going into sales

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:39 PM PST

For background, I'm an entry level legal adviser, and during the time at my current firm, I had the opportunity to meet the sales director of a certain company, who found out I was going to leave my current firm. I have another legal job lined up already, but he says to let him know in the future if I'm interested.

He invited me to join him at his company for an Account Manager role. Apparently it's similar in the sense that I have to manage clients and maintain good relations with them. I guess he believes that I'd be able take on this role with just my basic skills and no previous sales experience though, this is a role for people with 3-5 years of experience. Also its twice my salary.

I know what the new legal job is gonna be like, but I'm pretty blank on the sales role, especially because its borderline mid-level. So I'd like to be more informed before making a final decision. FYI, the company for this sales role is in the travel/hotel industry, which has been hit hard recently, but also slowly recovering from what I can see.

Any advice, tips, or things that you wish people told you before going into this career would be greatly appreciated.

    Account Manager vs. Account Exec

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:11 PM PST

Company is moving to a new model - AMs for a number of named accounts. Primarily I've been making my number on customer account upsells and cross-sells so I'm leaning towards pitching myself for the AM role. Wondering if this group has any advice on the key things to be considering in making this switch, especially when it is the first time our company will be rolling out this new model.

Also, of course I'm working on an ELA for one of our largest install accounts that I'm forecasting for the month after this change is slated to take place.

I’m a bdr at my dream company.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:59 PM PST

A company I've always wanted to work for, think one of the largest. I really would like to spend the majority of my career here, but I also know that money talks. And i suppose in the future I could be interested in jumping over to another large player, or a small one, and be a big fish in a small pond. Regardless-would I ever get poached from another company directly into an AE role in the future? Only 3 months in so this could be really naive..

    Advice (24M)

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 05:03 PM PST

Hey guys, was looking for some advice. Graduated college 2019. Worked for a real estate company for 8 months. Then left when covid hit and started a landscaping business up after I had sold my previous one in highschool. Made it to 6 figures this year, however it was an absolute grind finding qualified help + equipment breakdowns and just day to day grind of the hard labor aspect/finding skilled employees. (I know it's landscaping but still).

I was thinking of getting a sales role of some sort to have control over my income while possibly switching the landscape to weekends only. Thinking long term for a family down the line with health benefits, etc but also potential to earn big money. (I'm very money motivated without sounding too greedy). I don't need a lambo or anything. I genuinely just love making money and building security for myself and my future family. Was thinking commercial real estate, anyone in the field and have any advice for breaking in? I worked in Property management after college so have that experience even though it's irrelevant. Just the real estate factor. Thanks in advance

The org dropped a $40 million tender in my email first month in the role and advised it’s up to you to win it…

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:53 PM PST

Very grateful although the amount of work required to respond is overwhelming as it is due in 1 week.

I have worked on tenders previously but usually the org divides the work between half a dozen team members to contribute.

    What would you do?

Is this a conflict of Interest?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:46 PM PST

I work for a SaaS company that sells into therapy practices. I'm a clinician who's interested in starting my own practice with a few other clinicians, will this be a conflict of interest with my current job? I signed non competes but the language was tailored towards not starting a SaaS company that sells into their market, not clinical work.

“Out of the box” remote networking event ideas

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:34 PM PST

What are some "out of the box" networking events you've been hosting for clients/prospects via Zoom that you've found to be successful? My team has done bourbon tastings, wine tastings etc where a drink making kit with ingredients and booze is mailed to participants ahead of time. These worked well with engagement but I'm interested to hear some new ideas.

My depression is getting in the way of my work... WWYD?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 03:45 PM PST

So to make a long story short, I have been suffering with depression for most of my adult life. On top of that, I had a pretty big shock to my life when my brother/best friend died in the middle of the night earlier this year. His death happened two weeks after I started my current job. I was still in training when it happened and the company was so amazing, letting me take extra time off from the standard bereavement period, letting me slide with less-than-satisfactory numbers, etc. Really appreciate them so much for that.

It has been about 8 months now, working with the same company. My success and performance has been extreme - some weeks I hit my 250 call goal, find lots of success, no problem... and then there's other weeks like this week where I have a total of 16 calls (absolutely unacceptable). I have been working with a counselor, my leader, my director, other leaders in the company, etc. etc... Trying all sorts of exercises and productivity tools to overcome this. When I'm up, I'm a rockstar, but when I'm down, I'm basically non-existent on the team. I am noticing most of my coworkers are getting sick of my attitude (I honestly don't blame them!) and are cc-ing my leader on all my emails and calling me immediately after sending time-sensitive stuff because I'm getting a reputation of being unreliable.

I had a one-on-one with my leader today where he basically told me I need to figure it out or he'll figure it out for me. The answer seems simple... just make the calls, right? It's just overwhelming thinking about doing it though and I just can't make myself do it some days.

So I need advice. Have any of you ever experienced this? What did you do to get over it? Sorry if this seems like I'm rambling... I'm not really sure about how to really explain the situation, but I can clarify anything if you have questions.
