Caused a car wreck and owe more than my auto policy will payout Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:36 PM PDT Ok not really, but I what if? All hypothetical here. Let's say I cause a wreck, a family of four is hospitalized, and they sue for $2,500,000. My auto insurance only covers Body Injury of $50k/$100k and Property Damage of $50k. Obviously I would owe out of pocket the amount above what my auto insurance covers which would completely wreck my current life saving and future financial picture. Assuming my net worth is negligible, what would happen? Would I have to sell everything I own, live in a box, and shell out monthly payments to the family for the rest of my life? Could I file for bankruptcy and have the debt cleared and financially restart? Is there any option that wouldn't ruin me financially for life? Lastly, what do y'all think about the rule of thumb of purchasing auto insurance with BI/PD liability limits about equaling your net worth? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Before i call my auto insurance i thought i’d ask here Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:58 PM PDT so my vehicle needs a part to function that is back ordered for the next few months. I can't drive it until I get the part per my warranty agreement. It's been 2 months already and no clue when the part will arrive because Ford can't even provide an ETA other than "there are 200 orders in front of yours and you're number 194 and they shipped 6 last month". I was just wondering if i could save money by putting it into storage on my policy until repairs are complete. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 05:17 PM PDT recently I got into a car accident, 3 days ago I put in my claim & still haven't heard from an adjuster. I've read reviews on this company and it seems like they go weeks/months without getting customers claim handled. My car is in horrible condition & is not drivable, I do not want this to be something that goes on for months. Is there anyone who has been through a claim with Go Insurance & could give a little help or advice.\ [link] [comments] |
Accident disclosure requirements Posted: 06 Nov 2021 06:44 PM PDT After being involved in a not at fault accident in California, I tried to ask for diminished value from the adjuster. Unsurprisingly, I was denied the claim. I plan to take my car to the dealership to get an appraisal estimate pre and post accident and request the difference in value. However, if I am unable to get any DV, am I required to report the accident to any buyer if it's not located on any reporting agency (Carfax, Autocheck)? Any tips on getting the most diminished value (if any)? Car currently has 46k miles on it. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 09:41 PM PDT For some context, I live in a state that requires health insurance and the year is coming to an end. I was wondering if I could still sign up for Medical for this year for the Q4 season. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 05:27 PM PDT Does anyone have any tips on how to manage the workload for new adjusters? I have a background in insurance specially as an underwriter - but claims is a completely different game. My company uses a diary system, but it's quite hard to keep up with and manage all at once. Any ideas from anyone who has experience with managing tasks? I.e.: A agenda, desk calendar, computer softwares, etc… I should put, I only work with commercial auto. (Liability and BI). Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:05 AM PDT I'm re-assessing my insurance needs and I'm hoping this community can provide some guidance. Asides from home and auto insurance I've been informed that I may need the following: Jewelry insurance for my wife's wedding ring, water and sewage line insurance for breaks that may happen on my property, and cyber/identity insurance to cover the costs associated with identity theft. Are these needed? What type of coverage should I be looking for? Any advice would be highly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Hit a Deer—front left got a bit of damage. Posted: 06 Nov 2021 06:13 PM PDT Anyone know what's the best move with this? Will my rates go up if I go through insurance. I have State Farm. Thinking if I should go through a personal mechanic. Front left fender dented and headlight shattered but that's about it. Glad the deer is okay. It ran off. Should a police report be filed? State of Florida. [link] [comments] |

Founders insurance wants to settle less than quoted repairs Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:44 AM PDT My daughter was involved in a head on collision, which she was the victim. This vehicle is a 1999 mercury mountaineer. Founders insurance company asked to send them pictures of the vehicle. There was previous rear damage to the vehicle that was not part of this accident. I received a call from founders insurance indicating that this vehicle is a total loss and that they want to settle for $500. The reasoning they gave is that the vehicle is valued at $2900 minus the pre-existing damage of $2200, and the total loss evaluation gives them the right to only pay me $500 for the front end damage that was caused to my vehicle. To repair my vehicle per their assessment cost $1500. I strongly believe that they are manipulating their the assessment of the rear hatch and bumper damage on my vehicle in order for them to pay me less than the actual collision damage. What recourse do I have to defend my situation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:31 PM PDT So, I'm trans, and I need top surgery, but the surgeon I need to do my surgery doesn't take my insurance which is Medicaid. His surgery cost is $14500 and he has no payment plans. I'm unemployed for Covid and disabilities. I'm 18 and have no help paying for the surgery. I'm interested in buying a surgery plan that he takes and once the surgery is over with, go back to my Medicaid plan. I have no idea what I'm doing and what everything means. Can I please have some help? I live in MA if that's relevant. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:51 PM PDT So I was attacked by a dog . Long story short the guy who's dog is it is looking to pay my loss of work , my pain and suffering , and whatever medical bills I incurred out of his own pocket . Now while that sounds amazing I'm a little nervous with what insurance will do and how the process works . I did have to fill out a form in the hospital that did show who's dog it was and where they live . This guy is trying to get me to sign a form so that it releases it from any further legal issues , which I totally understand. The form reads : "This letter herby releases " parties involved " of all legal and monetary obligations caused by a dog bite incident to " my name " the eve of October 29th This releases indicates consideration in .the sum of $1500 which is agreed upon by all parties for "my name " loss of wages , pain and suffering and permenant scarring . In addition all out of pocket medical expenses billed by nch emergency room related to the injury will be paid by " dog bite guy " It is understood and agreed that no further medical care is anticipated in relation to the incident and no allocation to future medical are required . This release does not admit liability , fault , misconduct , or wrong doing by either party involved. It is agreed the incident occurred due to the dog protecting his owner " So I guess my fear is that my insurance company is going to reach out to me and be like " hey so it wasn't your dog that bit you so his insurance will pay your bill " and then they will reach out to him and he will show them this how he isn't liable for anything and then I'm stuck with a huge medical bill and they take the money we settled on ….? Miata - Modified Drivers Seat - Coverage with removed side airbag? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:35 PM PDT I have the old insurance with the gecko. They told me a modified seat is fine in my Miata as long as it's disclosed. However, I mentioned that the original seat has a side airbag. So hence, if I remove that original seat and put in my Sparco seat it would remove the side air bag. All the other bags would stay as is. I pretty much need the seat since I'm a 6'2" fellow trying to fit into a Miata. Aka with the stock seats it simply "doesn't" work. Now I don't have medical payments via them, I just have another high deductible employee sponsored health insurance. They (gecko) told me they would come back to me with an answer after they talk to the underwriters. Anyone have experience with this? I'm concerned that if something happens they will deny the claims. If so, I might need to sell the Miata, sadly. Since I don't fit without the aftermarket seat. [link] [comments] |
Looking to change Car Insurance - problem is I have home and auto bundled Posted: 06 Nov 2021 11:35 AM PDT Not sure how to handle this situation. I've been with State Farm for auto 3 years now and I bundled home insurance with them 2 years ago. My Auto insurance renews 12/01 while my home insurance renews in February. If I go insurance shopping today, should I be looking at auto and home insurance? If I cancel my auto insurance, I still have home insurance till February. Would the new insurance company give me a discount for the amount of time I have home insurance left? [link] [comments] |
Switched Health Insurance, OOP Applied Incorrectly Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:25 AM PDT Hello! My workplace recently switched insurance companies, and while the deductible managed to switch over from the old insurance to the new one alright, it was applied incorrectly, meaning that the charges that should have gone towards my wife for the purposes of her Out of Pocket Maximum were applied towards me. My wife is having a baby, and due to some complications, it's likely we will ring that OOP Max bell. But it will take a couple thousand dollars more to reach it if those earlier charges are not applied towards her. My question is if this is even a thing that is possible to fix, or would I be wasting my time by contacting my insurance company? The insurance is BC/BS of Florida, in case anyone needs that info. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:09 AM PDT My vehicle was rear ended and did not receive anything back from the other insurance. My company all sate contacted them many times. What should I do ? [link] [comments] |
Can I request my car to be repaired two months after the accident happened? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:19 AM PDT I rear ended someone back at the end of August. I was at a stop sign, tapped my gas, didn't see he hadn't moved his vehicle. It dislocated my front bumper and slightly pushed up the hood of my car. He didn't have any vehicle damage, and didn't claim any medical damages at the time of the accident (per my adjuster) but I got a notice a few weeks ago that he was claiming bodily injury via attorney (which I'm also handling with my adjuster). Since the accident, there's been a rattling noise radiating from where the impact happened. My question is- is there a time frame I can request repairs to my vehicle, or is it too late? I can't get in contact with my adjuster, and because of the bodily injury claim on the other party, the claims department reroutes my calls to his voicemail and the online portal for the insurance isn't working. Also- at the time of the claim I did request vehicle repairs, but I don't think the online portal accepted my request. [link] [comments] |
