Car Insurance-Am I being taken advantage of?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 10:24 AM PST

I was in a minor accident where I was backing out of my parking space and hit a car driving though. No damage to my car other than a bit of paint transfer. The other car had minor damage to the door and body behind the door. The police can and took a report and did not cite either of us.

I received a letter and Phone call from my insurance saying the other party is claiming an Injury and has legal counsel. My insurance suggested I seek an attorney at my own cost as my insurance does not cover bodily injury. I have full coverage and asked for clarification as to what my coverage covers. Still waiting on that.

I then received a call that the damage to the other car is more than 10K and as my insurance only covers up to 10K that I can either pay the difference or expect them to sue me for the difference. I asked what the total is and should be getting an email soon.

My question is what the heck do I even pay for. What should I do. What can I do ect.

Also my coverage is due for renewal next month and my premium has risen 67%.

    Car wreck

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:27 PM PST

My brother was involved in a six car collision and was not insured through my insurance, I am the owner of the vehicle he was driving and he had full permission to drive the vehicle. He also lives with me, I am afraid I will be sued for the damages and the one person who went to the hospital...he was at fault causing the crash. My insurance said they might not be able to cover the wreck and damages to the other vehicles because of the circumstances of the insured driver considering he does live in my household and had permission to drive the vehicle... please send advice if you can I am losing it slowly because I don't have the money for an attorney and am barley making it by being the only one who is working along with taking care of my son I can't afford a mistake when I was only trying to help my brother out... please help

Is there else I can do for a denied claim

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:19 PM PST

So I had to make a claim against my homeowners insurance due to hurricane Ida. I originally didnt plan on making one due to the damage not being more than my deductible but recently found additional damage that would be greater than my claim. Upon initial review, my claim was denied, They are allowing me to send additional photos and descriptions due to the inspector apparently not taking thorough imagery.

The damages themselves is that I have an inground pool. The diving board was ripped off at some point during the storm and damaged the liner to the pool. The damage to the liner wasnt discovered until more recently.

This is the first time ive had to make an insurance claim ever. Is there anything I can do to possibly make this go in my favor?

I do understand this will involve a named storm deductible and that is why I never made a claim originally. as a diving board and base arent close to the actual deductible. Its replacing the liner that drove up the cost.

Edit: I'm located in Baton Rouge, La

Edit 2: When they filled out the claim paperwork, They kept listing the date of loss to be when I filed the claim, not the actual date of loss.

21 year old male with bad credit. Am I likely to get cheaper insurance than GEICO($204/mo?)

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 04:46 PM PST

I've never been in an accidend, filed an insurance claim, or even been pulled over. Got my license when I was 16 years old. Just bad credit from a defaulted personal loan. Lost my job and couldn't find another to pay my debt. In a much better position now than I was over a year ago, but I can't do anything about the damage that's already been done except work to pay it off quickly.

The other quotes I've received are Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, Esurance, and Farmers. All the same or identical parameters (comprehensive) but drastically different prices. None even come close to GEICO.

    Question about car rental insurance

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 08:19 PM PST

    Hi,

I'm going to rent a car on Friday and I don't have a car or car insurance but I do have a credit card that coverage car rentals. The policy states that it is secondary auto coverage. Since I don't have car insurance, this secondary coverage becomes the main one?

    Car accident right before selling

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 04:10 PM PST

My buddy was driving down the 405 Freeway, and has been car shopping for months and has a current active offer from KBB and CarMax to buy his car, he was unfortunately hit on the freeway where the damage still hasn't be reviewed, but the bumper has damage and coming off, we're not sure of internal damage.

If the insurance fixes his car, how badly does this affect his car value? Does he have to disclose this to KBB or CarMax?

If they value the car significantly less then before the accident, and it was no fault of his own, can he sue the driver who hit him for the difference in car value?

EDIT: located in Los Angeles, CA

    Advice please.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 07:40 PM PST

Hello everyone this is my first post on the forum and I am heavily thinking about getting involved in selling insurance. I'm currently taking a course for the 2-15 license. Health, life & Annuities.

I have a bachelors degree in criminal justice, and I also have a associates degree in computer networking. I currently have a pretty low level job in retail for a top 100 retailer I've been here five years and I'm looking for a change.

I don't really have an interest in either one of my degrees, I'm sad to say.

My grandfather was a very successful sales person for Coppertone, and my father was an excellent salesman as well that doesn't mean I'm going to be but it has always been in the back of my mind an interest. I would absolutely say I'm a people person and I thrive in customer service.

Although I currently reside in Florida I have a friend out in Las Vegas who now owns five State Farm agencies and he has offered me a job starting at around 50,000. I flew out there a couple years ago when I was going to get involved in this after I changed my mind, because I failed the test the first time.

I believe he mostly sells life, health, home & Auto. I would love to talk to people who truly enjoy what they do and any and all stories and advice they could give me. I really believe I could excel in a sales role. I get really nervous because I read a lot of stuff online about high burn out and people say it's soul crushing etc. etc. and it makes me scared to make a big move into it.

Should I keep paying the premium for my flooded car while it is with the dealership mechanic? (NY,USA)

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 08:55 AM PST

My new car was flooded after Hurricane Ada, and the adjuster recommended repair. However, it has been three months since I towed my car to the dealership, and no fix has been carried out yet, allegedly due to supply chain issues for parts.

I have not redeemed the check my insurance provider sent to me as I am still waiting to hear from the dealership about the cost of repair.

Given that I am not driving my car in the meantime, is it ok to cancel my insurance until I get my car back?

    Insurance for contracted worker

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 06:49 PM PST

I run an arts non-profit and we are hiring an artist to paint a mural for a client who requires that we provide insurance to cover said artist. Typically independent contractors are not included in insurance policies, but does anyone know of a company that might provide coverage for the artist in case they are injured on the job. I know almost nothing about how insurance works and our current broker said they couldn't offer anything without a lot of explanation. Help?

Our organization is located in WA State in the US.

    Need post-accident Insurance Advice, Please!

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 02:44 PM PST

    Country USA State NJ

On sunday 11/14 I was going down a road with a double yellow. Long story short, someone on the opposing side decided to do a U Turn directly in front of me, Resulting in me hitting into his rear passenger wheel area.

The front of my vehicle is only cosmetic damage, meaning the front bumper, grille, and hood is fudged up but the engine components are fine. Everyone involved is not injured.

Other drivers vehicle: Rear passenger bent in and no longer drive able at the scene

I called the police. They made a report, cop said the other guy is at fault and made an illegal u turn. Report doesn't process until Friday. Other driver didn't have his phone with him so he gave me his number to text him the pics. I somehow wrote the wrong number down because I texted him the pics and it wasn't the right guy I was texting.

Now I have two options according to my insurance company.

    I can either

    (1) pay the $750 deductible and my insurance company will cover the rest of the repair.

    or

    (2) claims rep from my insurance said I can wait for the police report and try to get the other drivers insurance company to pay for it all with no out of pocket for me.

I have full coverage and i'm still not sure of the other guys insurance info yet because i sadly did not take anything from him but the wrong phone number.

I was wondering if anyone had insight on my situation because quite frankly this is the first time I had to deal with this sort of thing and I don't have many people in my life I can ask.

Please help. Need advice about this Renters insurance

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:54 PM PST

My roommate saw a leak and tried to fix it by tightening the valve but the other end of pipe broke and apartment got flooded and water leaked to the below stairs through ceiling. The Apartment owner said that the damages will be billed to us because a bidet is attached to toilet. No personal things got damaged the only damage is to the apartment property(carpet and pipe) and the below stairs apartment ceiling and wall.

My roommate has no insurance and I am not present at the time the pipe broke off. I am the one who attached a bidet to the toilet.

We are trying to file a claim through my renters insurance. Will it go through or do they accuse my friend for trying to stop a leak ?

Please advise on how to proceed

Used insurance to fix my vehicle, then received a cash settlement outside of insurance for the entire cost of repair. My deductible + insurers portion. What do I do?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 07:00 AM PST

Hi - I had received a cash settlement from a large company for a hit and run. My car was parked, and all they had to pay for was damages. I was not in the vehicle. I went to them directly because my insurance had not done anything with the information I had provided. It has been months.

They are offering to pay me the entire amount of the estimate. I had a $1000 deductible which I paid, and $2000 which my insurer paid. The company said it will pay me in a check for $3000.

Do I need to notify my insurer of this? Will I get in trouble? Would be nice to keep the money, but I don't want to get hit with this later on.

    I am in California. Thanks,

How to lookup someone's car insurance policy?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 01:41 PM PST

I was renting a car in California and got rear ended. I was able to get the guy's driver's license and vehicle registration but not their insurance information. The rental company is saying I'm liable for the entirety of the damages unless I can get my hands on the insurance information. They're saying they don't have the tools to look it up but I find that hard to believe. I tried contacting the police but they said they don't have the tools to look it up either and to go ask my insurance which in this case is with the rental company (Thrifty). Is there anything I can do?

How to find and pick an insurance broker?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:27 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to purchase (home) primary and rental insurance policies as well as an auto policy and an umbrella policy. At this point, it makes sense for me to find a broker. How do I go about finding a good broker and what's this one apart from another? I live in Northern Virginia if anyone has recommendations.

    Thank you!

Liberty Mutual VS State Farm for home insurance

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:21 PM PST

    State: GA

I'm between Liberty Mutual and State Farm for home insurance. The cost is within $10 a month of each other. The benefit of State Farm is they are offering replacement value for my 15 year old roof while Liberty Mutual is offering actual cash value. Any reason not to just go with State Farm because of their roof policy or is Liberty Mutual better/worth taking actual cash value for the roof?

Car Insurance question for short term move

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 04:54 PM PST

I have a car that is registered and insured in MD. Come December, my gf and I are taking my car and temporarily moving to a different state for her to complete a travel nursing contract until mid-March, before returning to MD. Do I need to inform my car insurance company about this? Would this require me to change anything in my car insurance?

Rusty old car got hit. I got paid. Do I have to fix it?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 12:32 PM PST

A drunk hit my crap town & country and he got arrested and cited. My insurance's uninsured motorist policy paid for damage, which I was happy to accept. This car is at the end of its lifespan and I would have sold it to a junkyard if I could find a used car to buy. This is our "never leaves town" second car which I drive about 5 miles a week. I'm DEFINITELY not applying the $1000 check I got for damages to this car. I'm saving that money for a replacement vehicle.

My agent (who I like) is asking when I'm going to fix the damage so we can be sure there's no additional expenses for undiscovered damage and then he'll notify the state that the drunk wasn't insured.

Here's my question: What happens if/when I never fix the damage? The car is without a rear bumper and the muffler isn't secured (it's on), but the car is drivable. Will this impact my agent's willingness to continue to insure the vehicle? Am I obligated to fix damage to maintain coverage.

We've only had liability on this rusty old car for years.

    Bump, Bump, Bump.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 03:53 PM PST

Hello my Reddit peeps, I recently got involved in a minor fender-bender and need some advice.

I was at a red light and the car behind me gave me a bump, which in turn, made me bump the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle that bumped me drove away. I was left to deal with the driver I bumped.

The person was nice and is working with me to see if we can settle this between ourselves (they will get a quote from a repair shop), if not, we will go through our insurance.

My question is, the driver that bumped me drove away. How will my insurance process this claim if we decide to go through our insurance? Will I be held liable? Do I get a point on my license or will I see an increase on my premium (Or both lol)?

Any information would really help to make my decision.

    P.S. Los Angeles, California

    I have Triple A.

    Misled by the dentist office

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 03:49 PM PST

I have a dentist that I've been going to for nearly 4 years. I recently went in to receive crowns and extract some damaged teeth. I had paid for my part of the entire procedure--extractions, the temporary caps, a flipper, the crowns, everything--up front. The bill matched a previous estimate given to me earlier this year (except the flipper, which the insurance doesn't cover anyway). I always pay for the work before it's done, and I had no other outstanding balance.

When I got my crowns last week, the office manager informed me that they will no longer be a provider for my insurance, and this policy started on 11/1. This caught me completely off-guard, had no reason to suspect that they'd change before year end (I check with my insurance company every year), but he assured me that I had already paid for all of the work that they did that day, so there wouldn't be a bill. I was completely covered and wouldn't owe them anything.

Today, I received an $800 bill from the dentist office.

From reading the itemized bill, it looks like amount that they charged when I paid upfront was $1,200 less than the actual cost (even though it matched the previous estimate that they gave me), and my insurance only gave them $400 because the final appointment was after the cut-off.

I understand that I am responsible for knowing my insurance and policy. However, given that I have the estimate from their office, everything was billed before November, and I was informed twice that everything was covered, I think I've been rather misled by a practice I was otherwise a fan of. What sort of options might be open to me? I can afford the bill, but the principle of the thing is rather aggravating.

I live in Pennsylvania in the United States.

Disability insurance application process feels overly intrusive

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 02:32 PM PST

I am a male in my late 40's and have recently applied for disability insurance. I'm in Pennsylvania, in good health and have no current medical concerns. Also have no major risk factors. The reason I am applying for this coverage is that I have recently changed jobs. My former employer offered group life, short & long term disability coverage as a benefit. My new employer is a much smaller company and does not offer these. However, the pay is much better, and it is worth getting the individual coverage for myself.

The problem I'm having is that this process is getting really long and more intrusive. First, it was a full application on paper, mailed in to the provider. Then I received a long call with a rep that basically went over all the same questions. I figured this was to look for any discrepancy between the application and my call responses. But now, the insurer has apparently retained a third party to do a blood draw and exam.

This feels like it's going too far. I've never been through this process for individual, non - employer provided disability coverage before, so I'm not sure if I'm reading this right. The closest situation I've had in the past was a required wellness check and blood draw for my employer provided health insurance. But even in those cases I was always given the option of having my own doctor provide the info. This disability coverage is not cheap, and is meant to cover 100% of my income for up to 5 years.

What should I make of this?
