Posted: 19 Nov 2021 11:03 PM PST Hello! I have been researching how to start a sole proprietorship to be a virtual assistant. I am looking for ideas on what I would need to do as far as starting an entity and where to look for opportunities. I know there are options for using another person's platform as a contractor with or without my own business entity, or opening a small office to set up equipment. I want to have more autonomy over my own schedule and income, but also have something that I can hit pause on to pursue a career in a few years time. Most of my work experience has been directly working with customers and clients in some sort of customer service role. Most importantly, I would like to know the pros and cons of starting a small business, potential pitfalls, etc. I was told there may be options for assistance with grants for small businesses owned by minorities since I am black, as well. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments] |

Dumb question, why do businesses need to turn a profit? Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:52 PM PST When all the operating costs are covered like rent and inventory and utilities, what's left is all pure profit. I work at a convenience store and the margins seem pretty good, and I mange the books so I know how much we're making, but I barely come home with anything on payday.. Why not just distribute the excess profits to the employees if its not going to adversely affect the operation of the business? I understand my boss has his own cost of living, but again given the margins we would both be able to sustain a decent living if those profits were shared equally with labor. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Nov 2021 03:37 PM PST Good evening. I've searched this sub and have found some really great information about the cleaning business. I have been in business since July 2021. I am ready to try to grow the company. At first it was good, me and my partner were happy doing 2 cleanings per day. We clean residential houses. I know this is bad but I'm tired of cleaning and want to hire some people. How would I work this out? Right now I am paying one person to help out. We are trying to get it to where she does a couple of cleaning per day on her own while we do two cleanings or knock on doors, and do estimates. I would ideally like to hire one more person to help her out. Until I start hiring legit in January I'm wondering how to pay the employee. We agreed that she would get $50 per house and $10 for gas per house. So of she does two house she would make $120 a day. In January I plan on getting the payroll service from gusto. I want to right now hire 4 people in addition to the two that I will have. I don't yet have an office or warehouse. Would the employees just lug around the cleaning equipment we have given them and show up to the house themselves? How do I pay them. I don't think hourly because what if it only takes them 2.5 hours (our average per a house that we have gotten to our standard). If I pay them the $120 a day, do I just put that they work 8 hours at $15 per hour.. Our first cleaning is at 8am. We will spend no more than 4 hours in a home. It usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours. After their first cleaning they will have time for lunch and rest a little bit before they go to the second cleaning at 1pm. I will adjust the time as I go. Please go easy on me, this is my first time with a business. When I really get going I want to get an office with a small warehouse. I want to lease three vans to store at the warehouse. My idea would be they would meet me at 8am at the warehouse. Get the van loaded up and roll out by 8:30am and first cleaning by 9am. Thats what I mean by adjusting the time. Sorry if I am rambling. I have a lot of questions. Right now my advertising is through yelp. And I've found a good print shop. When we have down time we are going door to door to businesses like dental and law offices. I would want to limit residential cleanings but we will still do them. How do I scale up? I work a part time job to play for advertising. We have a website. Tldr: I have been in business since July 2021. I do residential houses but want to get into commercial and office cleaning. I have one employee, want to hire one more. Employee currently lugs around the cleaning supplies we give her. How do we pay her once we go to payroll in January. We agreed to $60 per house. Would I just clock them for 8 hours? What do I do until I get an office and warehouse? Have the employees lug around equipment? In January I want to hire four people. And eventually lease three vans to start. [link] [comments] |
Know of some good online resources for editable templates? Posted: 19 Nov 2021 03:13 PM PST capmf.cdt.ca.gov (California DOT) has a lot of free PM templates but I've been looking for some more generic ones such as quotes for billing, reports and maybe even scheduals. Some online sites only allow me to print to pdf [link] [comments] |
Book summaries for business owners Posted: 19 Nov 2021 11:06 AM PST Two weeks ago, I made a post on how I was planning on starting a blog that's focused on summarizing books. Incredible books that are overshadowed by books with fancy titles A perfect example of these type of books are: Value- Based Fees by Alan Weiss & Pitching Without a Manifesto by Blair Enns. Got a lot of feedback & I also appreciate those that reached out. After a lot of back and forth thinking, I decided to start small. That is with a newsletter, then a podcast and finally a blog. I will officially start sending out emails on Dec 1st. But you can sign up for the waitlist >>https://sendfox.com/lp/1rp9r2 [link] [comments] |
