BEWARE OF ASKING “WHY” Sales and Selling

BEWARE OF ASKING “WHY” Sales and Selling

    BEWARE OF ASKING “WHY”

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 06:10 AM PST

It's a dangerous way to reply to an objection.

That's because it can cause buyers to get defensive.

Instead try: "Can you help me understand what's causing that concern?"

Notice this question asks "why" without uttering the word "why."

Plus it's an open-ended question, so you'll get a more complete response.

Try it on your next call.

Would anyone be interested in a cold-calling practice community?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:16 PM PDT

I'm pretty nervous to start cold calling but need to do it to get my business off the ground. It seems like there is a lot of advice and threads on here about the best approaches. I thought it might be useful to start some sort of community / scheduling portal for us to practice our cold calling skills and get honest feedback from one another.

    Anyone else interested?

UPDATE: Like 100 people are interested - I made a Google group where we can introduce ourselves and share availability - if you want to join, just DM me your name and email, I will add everyone once a day 'till this cools down.

What is a good thing to say when calling back a prospect after they stopped responding?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 06:55 AM PST

I am struggling with what to say when I have already spoke with a prospect, emailed them the application, reminded them via emails and texts about completing said application, and then having to call them to see what's up. Anyone have some effective lines to not make it awkward?

Do female prospects respond better to saleswomen?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:07 AM PST

Right off the bat, I would like to say that I am just making presumptions. We are about to target an industry in which there are a lot of female leaders. So we are doing some salespeople hunting. This got me thinking if female prospects would appreciate more to be targeted by saleswomen.

Is there any truth to this? Or does the gender of the salesperson not really matter all that much?

I'm dropping off a sample tomorrow, what else should I do?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 07:22 AM PST

I'll be dropping off a sample of a food product tomorrow. I don't plan on just dropping it off at the reception desk, I want to meet the people as well. We've been talking via email but I'd like to meet them. Then I'd want to eat some together with them and get their immediate feedback. What else do you think I should do? How aggressive should I be towards closing a deal/moving things forward? I don't want to be pushy, but I'm assuming if they like it they would have no problem closing on the spot or really talking details. If they don't like it, I would probably get hit with the "thanks we'll be in contact".

Does door to door skills transfer to b2b sales?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:12 AM PST

Say a guy is knocking doors selling b2c. Easy to sell products and becomes a superstar at it.

Now same guy is starting in saas tech sales. Will the b2c skills transfer to b2b? How have others adapted?

    Commission based sales model help

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 10:09 AM PST

    Hello everyone!!

Is there anyone who works as a lead generation assistant on a commission only basis? I have a Web Design & Development agency with a good enough portfolio but struggling to find clients and also want to focus on just making websites and not searching for leads everyday. You can even have 25% of the profit. So if a website costs $5000, you can get $1250 just for referring someone to my agency.

It can even work as a one time thing if you have someone looking for a website, you can refer them to me and get 25%.

Is there anyone who works with such a model?

Foundational skills that make up sales?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:49 AM PST

What would you say we're the foundational skills that permeate through all sales. Some may be more applicable to different types of sales like B2B, B2G, B2C, and D2D or would you say they are foundational in the fact you can find them in all of these sales spaces?

Also, what skills would a top performer who could excell in any of these spaces have?

I ask this to further develop my understanding of sales and maybe ask questions I've never thought to ask.

    Not a morning person

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:13 AM PST

Never been a morning person, but can crank out a high number of calls and e-mails.

Truthfully, I'm not productive in the morning and rather spend that time sleeping until about 11am and then go ham.

How many of you need to clock in manually and get started at 8am?

How many night owls are doing SAAS sales and can clock in later in the day?

Building Materials Sales to SaaS Sales

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 08:56 AM PST

I'm curious to know if anyone here has transitioned from materials sales to tech sales (specifically commission sales). I currently work with a building materials supplier selling to contractors/properties, and my base is $65k but my bonuses are based on quarterly performance over LY sales. I get a lump sum bonus for hitting targeted budget, and then 3% of sales over budget. I've always hit well above my budget, with the past 3 years hitting 25%, 50%, and 40% over budget. This year has been especially tough with material shortages hitting the entire building materials industry, but I'm still over 40% currently. Problem is I've hit these numbers because I'm working my ass off (50-60 hour weeks), which I don't necessarily mind because it's more money in my pocket. But I'm wondering if I could make more money in a commission based role then I currently am. I've found a few sales roles in my area that are SaaS sales to construction companies, and I'm thinking it could be a good crossover.

I'm curious what the transition was like for anyone that has switched over, and some tips on adapting over?

Just got a tech sales job—what do I need to know?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:13 PM PDT

I will graduate college in a few months and I got a job at a tech company (will disclose if relevant). The job is a sales rotation, followed by a sales rep position. I've never done sales before, I don't really know anything about tech, and I'm feeling a bit nervous.

What is the quick and dirty of what I need to know to excel? Any advice/guidance?

Nurse to Tech Sales is it possible?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 12:15 PM PDT

Hi guys, I'm trying to encourage my mum to Transition from a nursing career to tech sales. She was a manager of a community psychiatric team, she now wants a career change. She feels she doesn't have enough technical skills to pursue this as she doesn't have an IT(STEM) degree.

I told her not to be discouraged and that she can gain knowledge through studying for example: AWS Cloud Practitioner certification etc.

Could you guys please provide tips/info on how she can transition to tech sales without an IT degree.

    Thanks!

B2B SaaS Sales: Where do you spend the most time when qualifying leads?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:34 PM PDT

I manage the pipeline creation process for a B2B SaaS company. Essentially, I sift through a list of companies to determine if they are potential prospects and then hand them off to be outreached to.

For me, I spend most of my time confirming the business model is a fit. I visit a company's website and confirm that it's a B2B software company and not a service or product-based company, and also that it sells to a specific industry. However, instead of visiting each website individually, I created a web scraper to visit a list of URLs and flag the companies as "software" for me, then I review that more targetted list.

For other B2B sales professionals in this community, what information do you spend the most time looking for when qualifying a lead? Maybe I can share some tips and tricks that I found useful!

How much equity should the average salesperson at a tech unicorn receive?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 12:15 PM PDT

Hey folks - I know Series C/D/E pre-IPO unicorns are hot places for salespeople to be because of earning potential. There's a lot of resources out there for engineering/product equity comp at these types of companies. Are there any good resources out there for benchmarking equity for salespeople?

Obviously, sales folks generally get less equity than other functions, but still helpful to know for some windfalls.

I was fortunate enough to end up at a company going public and got a decent chunk.

If you have any data, would love to get your perspective.

    Pharma Sales Questions

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 03:56 PM PDT

Hey everyone! Just wanted some input on what may be a good opportunity for me.

I have been looking to switch into sales for a while now. I have a role currently that is dealing with customers virtually (basically a customer success manager). Not much closing on the day to day but a lot of client relations and up-selling. I was a successful door to door salesman but haven't done much phone prospecting/selling.

I recently was offered a job as a pharma sales rep through a connection I have. It is a niche pharmacy that deals with hormones and other "Joe Rogan" type drugs. The owner thinks I would do just fine, but the role would be a remote sales rep that has a territory in California. Basically it would be calling and doing zoom meetings and selling that way.

MY MAIN QUESTION is I don't have any major sales experience, and it feels a little out of my league. The sales manager is awesome and would be train me with everything, but just feel under qualified.

    Any thoughts?

2nd Round SaaS SDR interview, what can I do to stand out?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 03:21 PM PDT

I made a good first impression, now I'm going to have a phone interview with the Sales Development Manager later this month. Other than doing my homework on the company and their products, what can I do to stand out and land this position? From what I understand compensation is good for an SDR in my area, it's WFH and they have a solid path to AE roles with a great pay structure.

Also for myself, what are some good questions I should have ready when they inevitably ask if I have any for them?
