Is it even possible to get fired these days? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:52 AM PST I just joined a Big4 firm in audit a month and a half ago as a staff 1. Ive been told/have read that recently some retention rates from staff1 to senior are as low as 20-25% and just how many people are leaving public accounting. My team told me that in recent years we've had close to 30 members on the team (large client) and this busy season we have like 13. I'm always worried I'm not doing a great job because that's just who I am, but realistically what would I even have to do to get fired? Seems like they're trying to keep as many people as possible these days [link] [comments]
Is it unethical to accept a job knowing you are leaving in 9 months? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 01:35 PM PST Earlier this week I accepted a role that begins in 2 weeks. (After my 2 weeks notice). Then earlier today I received an offer for a big 4 audit role that begins next September 2022. Is it unethical to continue with the first role I accepted knowing I am leaving in 8-9 months? The only reason I am leaving my current role is because it is not giving me my cpa hours, but the role I accepted does.. Thoughts? EDIT: Thanks for the replies! Sort of just needed some reassurance.. ALSO just to clarify I do currently have a job it's just too real estate related and not meeting my CPA hour requirements.. Not to mention the 20% salary increase in the new role [link] [comments]
Controllers salary expectations…am I right or wrong?! Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:27 PM PST I'm currently a Controller for a 100M / yr organization. My salary is 140k + 10k bonus regardless of company performance. A close friend of mine wants me to jump ship to their organization. I've been pitched this: 150k + 25k bonus. The thing is, this organization is much more complex, public, global, and 3x the size revenue wise and growing. My close friend is head of their finance department. I told him that the market rate for a Controller for a public global company would be over 200k base. He said "no way!". I told him to do the research and come back to me with something better. So Controllers out there…am I right or wrong? Medium cost of living city in the US. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:41 AM PST Between the Amazon zero taxes talking point, and the SALT cap being potentially repealed, I'm so sick of people who don't understand a lick of taxes acting like they have informed opinions on these things. I'm about to go full Kevin Durant. [link] [comments]
I suck at accounting with an accounting degree. Please help. Posted: 18 Nov 2021 01:59 PM PST I have 2 years experience in PA in audit and I didn't perform well but I left for industry before I could be let go or fired. Now I am in industry where I thought it would be better, but I still feel like I don't know what i am doing and its been a few months. I feel like I don't understand accounting and my work always has to be redone in some way. I feel miserable everyday and extremely bored and I am just coming to the realization that I don't like accounting. I liked it im school, but now that I am working in the field, I hate it and I want out. What jobs can I get with an accounting degree that isn't accounting. I am such a creative person and i wish I majored in something different, but is there anything I can do which isn't boring af as accounting with my business admin degree? I just want to feel like I'm good at my job and I know what I'm doing. Im tired of feeling anxious at work and being confused. [link] [comments]
Is there something wrong with me that sometimes I aspire to be an IRS Agent? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:58 PM PST Idk man, the thought of helping Uncle Sam squeeze every last possible cent out of people seems empowering. [link] [comments]
I feel a little bit guilty leaving my team during busy season Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:12 PM PST I'm in PA audit and felt a bit guilty leaving current team and guess what my partner is leaving too lol. [link] [comments]
Given the labor shortage, do I have more of a safety net as an intern? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:22 PM PST Title says it all. Intern experiences can be different from one place to another, but mine is actually pretty intense and I'm being given a lot. I work in CRE as an accounting intern, and because of the high turnover rate, I've been given entire property portfolios. No clue what I'm doing. I do put in lots of effort though and am responsive and professional. No one is here to train me because we're so understaffed. Am I safe to make mistakes? Once my internship is over, they decide to keep me or not. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:21 AM PST I am trying to see an exit ramp out of PA into a tax analyst role. Curious what salaries are being commanded by tax analysts, senior tax analysts, or directors of tax [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:16 PM PST I'm about to complete 4 years of tax accounting and make $70k from a San Jose (Bay area) based firm. I got here from 57k when I asked for a raise back in 2019. My current title is experienced associate *I don't create or get involved in drama (F) *I'm not your typical accountant - I'm a social butterfly when I want to be and during busy season I keep to myself and get stuff done *I train new hires *I handle all of the crypto tax returns *I've created some cool tax team procedures - a) sing happ birthday as a team b) finish all meetings with a joke *i can prep 1040, 1120, 1065, run projections, year end planning *manage a lot of my client list on my own. I want to stay at my company and ask for senior tax pay starting at 90k.. But is that still too low? The current market for senior is between 80-110k. I'm not a senior, but with my experience I can get hired somewhere else with that title and that pay. [link] [comments]
(CAN) Should I quit big 4 after 2 months Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:29 PM PST Made an account just to post this cause I need advice... I am a new grad in CAN and started at a big 4 in audit in September. Things were tolerable until my 10/31 year-end and now I want to die in an accident everyday. I hate the work so much... it feels so meaningless and dreadful. My team works from home too so there's a lack of coaching and it feels super isolating. So on one hand, I'm miserable, I don't even like accounting, I want to abandon this whole ass career path and I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that I should quit. On the other hand, I'm scared of being unemployed and disappointed in myself for not grinding it out. Has anyone else decided big 4/CPA/accounting wasn't for them this early on and completely switched gears? [link] [comments]

Getting into Accounting with a Finance degree? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:22 PM PST Hey y'all So I graduated with a finance degree this year & currently on the job hunt. I have a soft offer for an analyst role in FP&A for a CRE firm but I want to keep applying for other jobs in case that falls through. (Im in SoCal, LA area) Is it hard to get into accounting with a finance degree? I know there'd be a learning curve, but is that something employers are willing to look past right now? Orange Theory Fitness Accountant Posted: 18 Nov 2021 01:03 PM PST Hello everyone! I was hoping to see if there's any accountants that work for OTF? If so, would you be able to give me an insight to how much you work per week? Is there any "busy seasons" or sprints? I'm currently a Big4 accountant interviewing for OTF and I'd love to know if It will be the same hours or similar to busy season! [link] [comments]
Future of audit and public accounting Posted: 18 Nov 2021 07:09 PM PST Just want to chat on this topic. How do you think the public accounting in general and auditing specifically stay relevant with ever changing technology? Professional judgement and skepticism are great, we need people who interpret and understand the impacts of accounting standards. However, how often that service is needed anyways? Once implemented, anybody can move on until the next new standard, so how can audit/PA be a service of anyone? [link] [comments]
Are there any disadvantages for not having experience in Big4? Posted: 18 Nov 2021 06:40 AM PST Hello! I am beginning my public accounting career (audit) beginning in January. I have the opportunity to work at a Big 4, but I have always seen myself working at a smaller company. My end goal is to be able to service small businesses. Is going through the motions of working at a Big4 in the beginning of a career truly worth it or is it ok to begin your career at a smaller firm. I guess a better question would be - will I be disadvantaged later in my career for not having Big4 experience? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Nov 2021 05:26 PM PST Currently working in industry 2 years out. Anything over 40 hours is OT. Just got a job offer for 30k more than I'm currently making in another industry (debt financing). I will have to work 60+ hours…. Should I take the offer or continue to work in my comfortable acc role? Need advice please [link] [comments]
I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that damn transcript! Posted: 18 Nov 2021 03:20 PM PST Graduated in summer of 2019, landed with small accounting firm where I eventually got laid off due to good ol COVID. After a hiatus took a job unrelated to accounting. So I have a shit transcript, the first page of my transcript has my second semester. Where I earned four Fs and an F-! Yes F- is a thing I also did not know till I received one. It means below 40% for those curious. First page also has my 1st semester where I received three A+, and two A-. No it doesn't get better as you scroll lol. Transcript ranges from Ds to As. I am not stupid, just thought it would all workout at the time. I have now learned I am a side character in this world, so shit just doesn't workout. Anyways I have been applying and I landed an interview with BDO a month ago, went great but didn't get it. Recruiter told me to keep in touch, I did and let him know other roles i was interested in. He soon set me up with another interview(different location). Great until he emailed me requesting my transcript. Fuck. I ghosted that email and hoped they would forget lol. Two weeks later it's interview day, it's going great till the Partner asks me: "hey we never got your transcript?" I tell him I was having trouble logging in and the university has been slow to get back due to covid. Partner says: "no problem just send it now" Fuck. I say "sure you want me to just email it to Mike?(recruiter)", Partner says that's fine. I don't lol, not sure why, I actually planned to, but procrastinated it. Well today the Partner emailed me: "Yo where's the transcript my guy? Can't move forward without it. If you're still interested send it by end of day." Dudes relentless, fuck. Now I can't even email it to the recruiter in the hopes the Partner doesn't see it. Now it goes straight to his inbox as a reply. Anyways I sent it to him. That was at 10am, never got a response lol. I was confident I'd get an offer if it wasn't for that damn transcript. Past me continously fucks over future me. Anyways today was a sad day but others thought it was amusing maybe some of you will too. Back to working my shitty temp job. Ah well. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:30 AM PST I've been spending the last few days going through some independent examinations for a new client and found a shocking revelation that will send shock waves through the industry. They've been depreciating land.[link] [comments] |
