Who do I have to kill to get the "google front page" people to never call me again?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:14 AM PDT

Holy shit it should be against the law - I'd say 1 in 12 calls I get are even legit calls.

Like, they don't even look to see if I'm ALREADY ON THE FRONT PAGE OF GOOGLE. Which I am.

Is it just a phish? Does anybody know a good hitman? Do I have to hide in a fucking cave somewhere!!??

Retail owners - Is the foot traffic worth the high rent?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:38 PM PDT

I own a retail business now where we operate slightly off the beaten path in a $7.50sqf non retail building. Can't beat the price, but we pay for it in ads to drive traffic and lack luster temp control.

The primo retail spots in the walkable spots of town are easily $20sqf/NNN and I feel my store would thrive on it. It's a store for everyone.

Has anyone gone from no foot traffic to foot traffic handed to them on a platter and absolutely wouldn't change a thing? Or did you compromise and aim for a shopping center with good anchor stores vs smaller location with 100% foot traffic

Owners ready to leave me the company. We're essentially reliant on one whale client to remain profitable and their future is uncertain.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 09:47 AM PDT

We do purchasing/logistics for customers in the Caribbean. 12 customers or so. Owners want to leave the company to me. Our whale customer (high end resort) accounts for over 60% of our revenue. Boss told me they may sell come end of 2022. It's got me nervous to proceed with this acquisition. Poor business model, yes, being so reliant on one client. It's worrisome thinking about losing them, though it's not certain they'll sell or what new owners would do. We're massively integral to their operation. We handle sourcing, purchase and quick shipment of everything needed to keep them running. We arrange flights of service technicians who may need to come to service things. Returns of warrantied marine engines for service in the States.

Aside from this export stuff, we import (sole distribution rights) of a line of products from Europe used in construction/facility maintenance (sorry for being vague). I have freedom to grow that portion of the company from the current $200-275k yearly sales to as high as I can grow it. I have full freedom to market and advertise as I wish, though without monetary investment from the manufacturer. I don't expect anyone to really have much to offer in terms of advice. I just need to make a decision on whether it's worth it to try and retain the export stuff (it's so damn time and effort consuming) or focus hard on building the brand of product we sell. I'd be losing money keeping on with the export stuff without that client. I could cut costs and retain my current salary with less effort just selling the imported products with tons of upside and less risk.

My boss wants to retire by January. I'm just venting and avoiding making a decision. I don't have the cash to run negative for extended time. All the owners want from me is their cost on current inventory of the stuff we sell domestically. It'll be $90k or so of which I'll need a loan for. My bosses kind of lucked into the relationship with this resort around 20 years ago. Just writing this to get it out of my head and put somewhere.

Hiring people and following set processes?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:10 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I have a small manufacturing business which has done well in last 3 years. Now suddenly I'm have 4-5 people working for me.

The problem is everyone is working/ storing data as per their own logic. I have written SOP's which are handed over to any new employee. The problem is 3-4 months later I find that the employee has just started their own logic and that means I have to redo work of at least 2-3 months.

I am in a industry where the turnover is really high (as there are some multinational who can offer 30% hike on my salary) This means every 6-8 months I am training a new employee and then facing this issue.

At the moment I have great relationship with my past employees and many times they help me in sorting any issues created by the new employee. But this feels like taking advantage of them.

The only way out I can think is micro managing every day operations which means I am unable to work on business development....

Any idea how this can be sorted?

Does anyone have any tips on apps I should download, softwares I should have, how much an accountant would cost me yearly, and really anything you might've learned on your journey when it comes to taxes. Any information would be amazing!

Do you want to use my simple Twitter Growth Tool (for Free)?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:47 AM PDT

Few days ago I wrote a post in r/EntrepreneurRideAlong talking about a simple Twitter growth system I created, and I got some messages asking me share it with others.

Since I didn't create it with the intention of making it public at the first place, if I decide to do so I need to work on it to be presentable. Tbh, I'm gonna do so if I see enough traction towards it.

So, please if you really like to experience the Twitter growth tool, fill out this Google form. If it reaches at least to 100 users, I'll do it.

P.S. it would be FREE to use. At this point I don't have any plans to make it a real business or startup.

For those of you in a family business, how do you manage your personal relationships in the workplace?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 01:06 AM PDT

I started a business with my sibling about 15 months ago, in the digital space and things have been pretty good, although repetitive lockdowns have brought us to a halt from time to time.

We get on great personally and are basically best mates but we constantly get in these massive spats over disagreements with what we deem vital to success and how we want to portray our brand.

I basically just blew up our partnership over this as from my experience within a normal workplace you are civil and agree to disagree, then move on. In this situation one person just argues until both parties blow up and start abusing each other making personal attacks.

I would love to hear opinions from people with successful family partnerships and those who want to say 'I told you so'.

The sour part is that this will burn our relationship and social circle. Just gotta figure out what I'm going to do next.

I opened a new business and keep getting told my prices are too high.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 04:17 PM PDT

I run a mobile dog grooming business. I have trailer that I pull that has all of the supplies of a grooming shop, including water and electricity. I only groom one dog at a time so it a very personal service, and owners get the luxury of a clean dog without the chore of dropping off and picking the dog up from a traditional grooming shop. The typical rule of thumb for pricing mobile grooms is about $20 more than what the shops are charging. This higher rate covers the travel time and fuel expenses, it also helps cover me because I can do less dogs in a day. Shops in my area are charging $60 for small dog full grooms, so I have been charging $80. I have had 3 out of maybe 8 new clients act like this price is extremely high. People have been shocked, and I hate having those conversations.

Are these just not my clients? Should I stay strong and wait for people to come around? Or do I need to charge less? Maybe a discount for new clients?

I just opened a month ago, so I am trying to fill my schedule. I live in a small town right outside of a bigger city.

Do you struggle with manual exports / imports / reports in google sheets?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:05 PM PDT

Hey, after reading few posts about issues with google sheets, like:

    • I need to calculate and export something to email / slack / etc from specific sheets
    • I need to import something from email to specific sheet and optionally pre-process data somehow
    • I need to prepare report based on X sheets and export it into new one.

I thought that it might be useful to create small automation service, where people or companies will be able to run custom scripts. Something like:

    1. register
    2. upload script - either created by your IT department, from freelance or by yourself
    3. specify running condition - run everyday, on new email, on demand
    4. pay for running time every month

There is already service called Zappier, but in case some integration is missing, you still need to do some work manually or via script. Main issue is that non-IT people don't know where to run those scripts, even if they have one. Also, it will be general purpose tool for any kind of scripts, not only google sheets. Inventory check, email sending, everything you was not able to customize. Also, we can built a team of script creators on demand, like a freelancers.
    What do you think?

Can I run small business out of shared office space or even unofficial address space?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:44 AM PDT

Please understand the question before you say yes. I see multiple multiple places advertising office spaces for rent in my large metro area. However, they all seem quick to take your money while not caring about the legal structure of your business. None of the ads say "get your business license on our address." This is where the problem lies. If you have any more than one business operating out of a shared office space then its as though they all have the same address and are in one room. This does not seem acceptable because when I studied getting a car dealers license you had to specifically get an "address" with individualized office entry and it could not be shared with any other business. My current business goal is online sales for stationery lets say for example. I do not want this to be on a home or apt address because that is a big red flag for a professional business appearance.

I wish I could just find an office or warehouse that I could sleep or live in but thats hard in a big city due to regulations and such of course.

For my original question I feel I am spot on in calling these office space ads a scam. I feel they already know you cant really get a license but they dont come out and tell you that because then you wont rent from them and they would rather you find out after you've signed the lease and they've got your money... I specifically found an unofficial office in a storage facility but when I inquired of what the specific unique address of the office was they had no answer and basically said its the address of the whole storage unit. This wont fly as far as Im concerned.

What thoughts can you all give me? Thanks

Vent: Email marketing is not a magical silver bullet

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 02:57 PM PDT

As much as I am fed up with social media marketing and all the stupid drama it entails (mostly Facebook and IG) I am tired of people acting like email marketing is this magical thing that always works and is an 'apples to apples' alternative to SM ads. The reality is that people don't like getting commerce emails unless it's getting an update on their order or announcing a sale once every few weeks/months.

I tried everything; heart warming 'from the founder' videos, tips on how to use my products (I sell skincare products), general skincare tips, positive reviews, quirky behind the scenes looks at my biz. Honestly people just do not GAF.

I do have a core group of customers who love that kind of content, but they represent a tiny percentage of my overall list. Most of my customer base treats my emails with general indifference.

And that's another thing! Everyone's like, "Have a pop up form to capture emails on your site!" And I do. But a lot of those captured emails are from people who have somewhat of a low grade/passing interest and stay on my email list bogging it down until they finally put us both out of our misery and unsubscribe. They might open a few emails here and there but they rarely click and even more rarely buy.

To give some context I am trying to scale. My business did around $765K last year and is on track to do about $980K this year. Before the Facebook ioS update we were projecting that we would do $1.5M this year. Obviously that didn't happen. As flawed as Facebook's ads program was in terms of privacy it was highly effective in helping businesses scale. It feels IMPOSSIBLE to scale quickly with email. There just aren't enough people coming to my brand and subscribing to our newsletter who have a high intent to buy.

I find email to be most effective with my *existing* customer base. Giving them reminders for sales and repurchase. But in terms of attracting and converting high intent buyers. *For me* email has been terrible at that.

And then people say, "Clean your list!" but then I notice that sometimes I'll get sales from people who literally missed weeks worth of emails, and then open one that has a promotion going on, and makes use of the coupon so they can buy something. This leads me to believe that a lot of my emails are going to spam, or going to the "promotions" folder in Google where they wither away/are generally ignored.

So it's like, What do you do about those people? People who probably have overcrowded inboxes but maybe still some intent to buy? Do you keep rolling the dice sending them emails hoping one day yours will pop up at the right time and they will purchase?

And that's another thing that's infuriating; my open rates are abysmal but my unsubscribe rate is very very low. So it seems that there is a level of inertia here. People aren't opening the emails, but they are either not seeing the emails or they're seeing them, not engaging, but not wanting to cut ties with my brand.

My final frustration is that there are customers who actually want to be engaged with the brand, but hate email and also aren't huge social media people. I used to invest a lot of time in keeping my IG account updated but the sales from organic social media were abysmal. So what happens to those people? Do I just release them back into the universe never to be heard from again? I do have a decent return customer rate, so a lot of them do come back on their own. But it is frustrating to think that I have no means of reminding/gently nudging them.

Email is a core part of my marketing strategy and it is my most consistent/reliable performer in terms of sales. But in terms of scaling up sales or converting new business, it just isn't doing that.

I am welcome to thoughts and feedback on what I've written here. If I'm off base on anything please let me know because I am losing my mind.

    B2B Late Payments

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 01:06 PM PDT

Does anyone have experience with companies paying them late (e.g., well past net-30), or just continuing to push out net terms? I'm looking for insight into the most common reasons that payments get held up with buyers - lack of cashflow, earning interest off of the float, weak incentives to pay early. I know factoring is an option in terms of solutions, but it's still frustrating that it lets buyers off the hook. If you've encountered the same in your industry/geo, would love to hear about it and anything you've done to try to address it.

How many of you run multiple businesses?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 06:55 AM PDT

I'm at the point now where my business is doing well, but I am very much the rainmaker (small 3 person photo studio.) Over the next 5-10 years, my goal is to scale myself back a bit, currently I book work 4 days a week(Mon-Thurs) and handle the 'business stuff' early in the mornings or on Fridays from home(or just in any given down time.) I am hoping to get to the point where I can hire another staffer without taking to much of a haircut and get myself down to being in the studio 2-3 days per week.

I also want to get to the point of opening another business - ideally something like a Domino's Pizza franchise or the like - I am VERY much into pizza, but realize that a franchise is the way to go if I want to be a bit more hands off with it and be more managerial instead of a hot shot pizza maker with the new hot pizza place.

Any one on here manage multiple businesses like this? I aspire to take it very slow, it's really a plan that I hope I can start getting into motion 5 years from now as I want to invest some of my money into real assets instead of just index funds and the stock market.

So does anyone on here have multiple real businesses that are in no way related?

Joined a web design/marketing startup and feeling overwhelmed by how chaotic and inefficient all of the systems are that we currently have in place. Need advice on which tools would be best based on our needs

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 02:59 PM PDT

My buddy started this as a side project 2 years ago and it kind of took off unexpectedly. He brought in more people to help (team of 10 now), but never implemented any kind of systems that would be able to scale with the company growth.

I came in a few months ago and right away I was so overwhelmed by the chaos and find it impossible to stay on top of things and feel like so much time is wasted on inefficiencies. I really want to help improve this, but it's not my area of expertise so I have no idea where to begin. I'm hoping that I can explain a little about what we need, and get some feedback regarding what tools would be the best to do. We have about 40-60 projects going at once so staying on top of them is a huge challenge when juggling so many things all over the place

    Sales:

We're a web design/marketing agency, so it all starts with leads. We need a CRM that can connect with Wix.com and organize each contact/client so that all communication is in one place, all of their info and notes on them are easily accessible, and we can see where they are in the sales/onboarding process. Current sales process is as follows:

    Leads comes in
We call lead and find out what they need
Proposal is sent outlining everything needed and the cost
If they want to move forward, it's time to onboard them

We need something that can do contracts/invoicing that connects with the CRM

    Onboarding:

After sales we send the following (would love a more user friendly way to do this):

a link to a design agreement for them to sign
a link to an invoice for them to pay a deposit
a link to a design questionnaire
a link to a content questionnaire (if it's a new site)
a link calendly to set up a kickoff call once those have been completed.

    So many links

    Design:
We need a project management app that the project managers and designers can use to update and track each phase of the design process and make notes, tasks, deadlines, communicate through, etc. Ideally this would pull a lot of info from the CRM so we don't have to manually enter it all again.

    Additional info:
We use Google workspace for gmail, calendar, drive, etc.
Literally so many separate programs and apps that don't communicate with each other or aren't set up correctly, resulting in things being spread out across literally a dozen apps. it's a nightmare to keep track of everything. I tried to avoid mentioning anything we currently use because the goal is to no longer continue using any of it. How do small businesses get help/figure this kind of stuff out?

This is the very general, vague gist of it, any recommendations for tools that would be good for this welcome! Happy to elaborate on anything to help get a better understanding of our needed

    Hey All,

One of my businesses is a hemp/cbd retail shop. We do a great business for the area we're in (a small, rural agricultural community). And we do OK with our online sales, we've been holding steady at about $2k a month.

I looked the other day and we've had almost $20k of abandoned carts just in the last month! We're set to send automated emails a couple of days later with a discount coupon. But they're rarely used.

Anyone have any ideas on recovering abandoned carts?

Website is Portcitydelta.com if you want to take a look and give ideas.

    Looking for Reading Suggestions

I am wanting to start my own service based business, and I don't have a formal business education.

I have taken to the Internet to learn all I can, and I have bought a few books off of recommended reading lists. All of these books tell me that I CAN start a business and to "just go for it" but they don't tell me the HOW.

How do I set up a health care plan for employees?

    How do I file taxes?

    What is Canada?

These are all questions that I need to answer before I put pen to paper, but I don't know where to go to find that information.
