    Fuck Clients

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:21 PM PDT

Just the worst fucking start to my day. Client calls to see why she haven't received her refund. Me: checks when we filed her return, tells her it was filed she just have to wait because the irs is backlogged. Client: starts bitching about it and tells me what am I doing to get the irs to processed faster.

    Clients are straight up assholes.

What was it like working 10+ hours per day in-office pre-COVID times? Did people fall asleep at the desk? Nap anywhere they could find? Go workout then return to the office for more work?

    How to deal with expectations

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:12 AM PDT

I recently finished college and I was fortunate to get a job in KPMG. I'll be starting next week. My supervisor is super nice and supportive but I think he has such huge expectations from me. He just sent me an email assigning me to this huge project that they'll be embarking on. Tbh, I'm getting cold feets. I did well in school and my excel skills aren't that great at all. But I think the reason he thinks I'm such a great employee is because I partially passed this professional exam. But I'm just good at studying. I'm really panicking and don't what to do, this is my first job and I don't wanna be a disappointment....

*Edit: Thanks to every single one of you, I feel better now and I'll definitely heed your advice. Again, truly THANK YOU !!

Big 4 vs. Mid-Tier vs. Government (with a child on the way)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:44 PM PDT

Hi guys! This is my very first post!

So, I wanted some career advice regarding my situation. I am a senior accounting major and have done everything an accounting major should do in school. I have networked, interviewed, and interned with numerous firms throughout my undergrad journey.

Because of my internships, I have:

-2 offers from 2 different big 4 firms in their audit practice -1 offer from a Mid-Tier firm's audit practice (same industry) which is 6.5k above big 4 offers -1 offer from government which is about the same salary as the Mid-Tier firm's offer

Now you would definitely think that I would definitely go with one of the big 4 offers, however I just recently received the news that me and my fiancé are expecting a baby next May! This puts things in perspective for me, as I realized that work-life balance is now a top priority for me since i'm having a child.

The government position obviously offers way better work life balance than the other firms, however would I be limiting/pidgeon-holing myself in choosing a government position over the other public accounting positions? Or would it be smart for me to go the public accounting route and work shitty hours to hopefully exit to a cushy position?

Tl;dr I have 3 offers in PA (2 big 4's) and an offer in government. But, I am expecting a baby in the upcoming months and value work life balance. Looking for advice on which option to choose and why.

Is getting an MBA from top schools good for transitioning?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 08:03 PM PDT

I have been accepted to Colombia University and gotten 60% scholarship but I live in Los Angeles now and I would have to move all the way to New York. Currently work at EY and have been working there for last 6 years. I'm however seeking a transition to corporate controller role or board treasurer, and later on to CFO.

I just wanted your opinion from those who transitioned from public accounting to other paths and those who went on to pursue an MBA?

Question about taking time off from work.....

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:25 PM PDT

what happens if your role involves month-end reporting duties, and you are the only person who knows how to do your tasks, but you get in an accident or have a personal emergency and can't come into work?

does somebody else try to figure out your role during month end? how does this work?

    I did it

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:28 PM PDT

I did it boys and girls. I got a job as a senior at CPA firm with a family-esque environment, where I'll have my own office, after spending the last 4 months miserable at a virtual/travel audit job. Not that I dislike audit, just the environment I was in and the clientele drove me away. Now to nail the negotiation and rake in the mula

    Got fired and feeling depressed

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:42 PM PDT

So as the title said I got fired after 2 years in a very small audit.

I got fired by surprise like 2 days before summer holidays and without any warning. They just said I didnt fit what they wanted and they told me they would help find work even contacting a recruiter they know for any position. The only warning I got (which I completely missed, do not be like me!) was a meeting with my boss and partner about my work like six months before but they just said explain more without specifying. And the past working papers were of no use because they changed them the same year I started and they did want to change how things got done but no one explained how. I had already 4 years experience so I had my way of doing things which I suppose was not good enough for them.

That I had to work from home like 4 months after I started did not help my chances and probably I also did a lot of things wrong on those months. The more specific thing I got was that I wasn't able to find the adjustments that I should have from the firing interview. But I do not understand when they asked me a lot of time to review their own stuff. Like annual accounts or reviewing their adjustments (so they did the work and I had to review it?) to send the client. In my previous experience that was something the partner did without any input from me. So I do not get that I was bad doing my job but I was good enough to review a partner stuff?

I was well considered in my previous job and my bosses were sad to see me leave. I got a job the day after thanks to a contact but now I am worried I am not good enough. I have read stories here of people being happy after getting fired so I know it is not the end of the world. But I would like input on how people move on because when I started the last job I was confident that I could take any project but now I am unsure about myself and I fear that the insecurity will kill my chances in my new one.
