Student Loans w/o Parents help Posted: 04 Sep 2021 08:24 PM PDT Hey all, I am trying to figure out how to get financial aid without my parents information. I attempted to apply for the fasfa but I am unable to complete it because my mom's husband will not give us his tax return info (they filled married but separate). Is it possible to finish the fasfa without his info? Is there another path to financial aid without filing out the fasfa? Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Does applying for private loans affect my credit? Posted: 04 Sep 2021 02:42 PM PDT I've never taken a loan out before nor have I ever had a credit card, but I want to shop around for different private loan options to see what is best for me. If I go to apply on sallie Mae will they run a credit check on me before giving me an interest rate? If so will it hurt my credit score? If I try applying to a lot of places is that bad? Any help is appreciated! Edit: I also have a co-signer (parents), when applying for loans will their credit score be hurt too? [link] [comments] |
Having to pay back loans from scholarship Posted: 04 Sep 2021 09:35 PM PDT Hello all. In undergrad all 4 years I had a scholarship that payed full tuition with the condition I fulfilled an employment obligation upon graduation. I fear I may fail to fulfill that obligation, and in that case, "All award monies received shall convert to a 10-year student loan plus interest. Interest accrues from the day each award payment is disbursed. Interest rate for the life of the loan shall be fixed and equal to that published annually by the U.S. Department of Education for Undergraduate Unsubsidized Stafford loans at the time the Service Contract is signed." The amount is probably around 28,000 without the added interest. Am I screwed if I end up having to pay this back? Im honestly terrified of the prospect. I don't know much about loans and got the scholarship without really thinking back in high school, and I'm scared if I mess this up i completely screwed myself over Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 07:24 AM PDT Has anyone gone though the attorney student loan repayment program (aslrp) process before? How was it? Any learnings? Going to try and apply next year. Would be curious to hear of any success or failure stories. [link] [comments] |
I received a refund check from my school and Posted: 04 Sep 2021 12:34 PM PDT I don't think I'm going to accept it. My loan covered my grad school semester and still had over $1000 leftover. I was given this check today. I might as well give it back to them since that check has interest attached to it. I don't know… [link] [comments] |
Repayment Strategy Advice Needed Posted: 04 Sep 2021 07:32 AM PDT Hey! Love this group and all the advice you all give! I now need some myself. I currently have about $88,000 in debt and am trying to pick a repayment plan. The standard 10 yr repayment plan is $912/month. Graduated repayment starts at $330. I've heard that if you make a payment above your monthly payment it goes straight to the principal. So I am wondering if it makes more sense to go with the $330 per month plan and just pay the $912 per month anyway ($582 extra towards principal each month). Do you think this will end up in less total money paid by the end? I hope this makes sense. Thank so much! [link] [comments] |
Is there another grace period for undergrad loans after finishing graduate school? Posted: 04 Sep 2021 07:39 AM PDT I remember getting a six month grace period with my undergrad loans after graduation. These loans have been on forbearance while I've been getting my Masters degree. I paid for my Masters in full so I have no additional debt but still have about 12k in undergrad loans. Will the forbearance immediately end when I graduate with my Masters or will I get another six month grace period? [link] [comments] |
What should I do with my remaining loan balance? Posted: 04 Sep 2021 05:40 AM PDT I had about $35000 in FFELP loans from the early 00s that I've been steadily making payments on for the last 15 years. My interest rate is 4.875%. I applied for PSLF many years ago (I work for a state college) and was rejected because I didn't have the right kind of loan. At that time I either couldn't or didn't know I could consolidate my loans into Direct loans, so I just kept making the payments. Last year, after reading this sub, I realized that I could consolidate my loans to Direct loan and therefore become eligible for the interest pause. I successfully moved my balance of $13,001 to direct loans and am now in the Covid pause. My question is this- I'm guessing I'm now eligible for PSLF. I assume I'd be starting over on the 120 payment requirement if I applied? Should I apply for it anyway? I don't even know what my monthly payment will be right now because the pause had already started. I was previously paying $287 a month. I want to be done with the loans, but I also have children of my own who are in 10th and 11th grade and I'd much rather save my money for their college if it's possible. Thank you! Upcoming Student on UC and PIP Posted: 04 Sep 2021 08:23 AM PDT I've applied to start an Online University degree and been accepted to start next month, pending student loan approval. I have been out of work for the past 3 years due to health conditions. At the moment I receive Limited capability for work and work related activities Universal credit and PIP. Today I went to speak to my local job centre and they said because I'm on LCWRA and PIP I'll still get UC will studying, just that my student maintenance loan will be deducted. Applying for my student loan it gives me 2 options; standard at just over £4,000 for the year or the option to apply higher for just over £9 a year. Is there a way to work out if I'd be better off on the lower or higher while taking into account how much they'll deduct from my UC? Many thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
Paying back Parent plus loan that is higher than expected. Posted: 04 Sep 2021 07:06 AM PDT Hi! So I received about 5k more for my 10k parent plus loan and want to pay that extra back. Is there a way I can do that now? I can't seem to find my servicer anywhere and I would like to reduce the burden for now. [link] [comments] |
Student from India looking for educational loans for undergraduate studies Posted: 04 Sep 2021 02:46 AM PDT I'm an Indian student who wishes to pursue an undergraduate course at a university in the United Kingdom. Since my family isn't financially capable of funding it on their own, we need an educational loan, for which a collateral is required. The house we currently live in is not ours, and we do not intend on providing this as a collateral. We own a house for which we have paid the full amount in instalments, but the house has not been fully constructed. My question is, will I be able to provide this unfinished house as a collateral for my loan? If not, can we buy a finished house on loan, and then provide that as collateral? Or is that not possible? Really sorry if my questions sound dumb. I don't have any other financing options. [link] [comments] |
