So, I'm a nearly 20yo NEET with an intense passion for cinema, and I've been thinking about opening up a movie theatre.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:53 PM PDT

But not just any movie theatre, an inexpensive family-oriented theatre that specializes in the bizarre, the foreign, the obscure, & most conveniently, the public domain!

Now of course you're right to wonder why anybody would pay to see a public domain movie, but the thing is you don't go to a movie theatre just to see a movie, that hasn't been the case practically since the invention of TV! It's all about the unique inimitable atmosphere!

I just hope a decent audience of people see that appeal too, because thinking about it, even after buying the property, screen, projector, concessions, arcade machines, & who knows what else, I'd need to make enough money to sustain myself, potentially multiple employees, the property's utilities, restocking concessions, probably more I'm forgetting, and still have profit left over, all from a pretty niche service.

So yeah, as I'm sure you can imagine, all that seems pretty intimidating, so is there anything I should know that could potentially alleviate that?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:55 PM PDT

I wanted to open a small jewelry shop (fake) but I'm not sure if I need any permits or licenses if I'm operating on Instagram in California. I understand if I'm under the tax bracket it all slides however i need to order supplies overseas and they might ask me for a license number to get wholesale/resale pricing?

Sales Manager racks up huge losses

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:29 PM PDT

Many people talk about their successes but here is a time were mismanagement cost thousands.

Our firm wanted to give our Sales Associates a Bonus every time they made a deal with their customer. Most associated sell about 3-5 deals on average per day.

The company hogged a "big shot" Sales Manager to help organize the 20 sales people working for the firm.

While out of the country for 6 months, the boss asked to Sales Manager to put together a Bonus plan for the sales reps to help encourage more frequent daily deals.

    This is what he did:

He created a bonus structure which if the sale rep closed a deal between 9am-12pm, they would get $25 cash. If they closed a deal between 12pm-3pm, they would get $50. Between 3pm-5pm, they would get $100.

Guess what happened? Every sales rep whole closed a deal prior to 3pm, would keep it quiet and then write it up between the hours of 4-5pm.

This went on for 6 months and the sales manager was proud of himself for having the reps all close deals just before they went home for the day. Little did he realize, all the deals were mostly made in the morning and the reps just held onto the deals and submitted them after 3pm to cash in on the higher bonus.

This ended up costing the company thousands and thousands in revenue.

Would you have this Sales Manager fired for this useless system?

Retail businesses - What is your policy when customers openly walk out without paying for merchandise?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:46 AM PDT

Last weekend at a King Soopers in Aurora, Colorado. I'm parked near the entrance. While unloading my purchases into my car a very large man carrying a very large plastic basket full of groceries walks very fast out of the store. A moment later the clerk from the courtesy counter follows and shouts several times "You didn't pay for that! Come back!" The man speeds up, dumps the basket in his car and speeds away. There is normally a security guard at the entrance of this store, but none appears.

Later I asked an employee, "Did that guy just walk out with a huge basket of groceries?"

The employee nodded their head affirmatively while stating, "We are not allowed to comment."

I asked, "Does this happen often?"

Employee nods head vigorously, YES, while repeating, "We are not allowed to comment."

    HAND TATTOO’s

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:03 PM PDT

I'm 21 & have hand tattoo's (one has been lasered and is very faded and one hasn't been touched - yet) I have always been good at making a quid into two and since young I vowed I would be self employed and I have been for about a year, however I hate it. I don't work enough during the day & constantly find myself trying to fill up my day, I also hate being alone all the time. Now brings my issue, when I was 18 I was a completely different person, a bit of a twat being honest. I thought for sure at the time I'd be self employed forever so made the great decision of hand tattoo's. I will mention The tattoos are really well done & were done by a great artist. So my issue is this, I'm looking to get into sales (preferably estate agent or cars) because I think that would suit me perfectly, it would give me the face to face relationships with clients and colleagues too which is something I desire. I truly believe that I would do really well for my employers, However I feel that my hand tattoos will hold me back, I've tried makeup but it's not ideal at all. Be brutally honest how fucked am I? Are some places more understanding of it now as they are tasteful tattoos or am I better off having them completely removed before being able to get a position like that?

I appreciate any replies & as I said be honest I need to hear real opinions.

    Thanks

What are some great Stock Market books for beginners?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 05:45 AM PDT

I'm a teen (16) interested in investing on stocks when I'm older. I don't know anything about the stock market and any business stuff. I'm pretty good at math, and I've read self-improv books before (like Kiyosaki's Rich Dad, Poor Dad). I'm hoping to read a book that will give me a general overview of the stock market, like what it actually is and how it works (especially for the investor). TIA.

    Marketing/ads advice?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:26 PM PDT

    Hi I'm new to marketing/advertising.

The company I work for has a new platform that I'll be managing. We historically have created ads on Facebook and LinkedIn but we recently got a company Telegram account that I own and control.

I've created a document which contains the objectives of the ad as well as the ad copy but I'd love some feedback on it please. I can tell the ad copy I've written feels a bit dry and almost like an email but since it's my first time writing it, I'd appreciate feedback on how to make it more hard hitting. Would you be willing to kindly take a look at what I've created and offer feedback please? If so, I'll send you the copy!

For context, the company I work for has tech solutions to make lives easier for teachers and other education professionals (our customers). In turn this will also help their students at their school/university (students are the consumers but not the customers). Thanks!

Help on plant and pet startup

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:32 AM PDT

My friend and I have been thinking in starting a Geev style site/app for trading care of plants and pets here in Paris, FR

But we don't have the capital for an app nor the knowledge to build it, we do have IG and a FB group.

Is that a way that could we monetize the interaction between ppl, or generate capital in any other way from the FB group without or before having an app?

How to Overcome Irrational Fears? - Business Related

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:09 PM PDT

My business is doing pretty well but i've kind of fallen into a comfort zone and avoid certain things.

I have a lot of potential clients reaching out to me that i'd love to make customers of mine. Reaching out to them via email isn't really an issue but it's the steps that come after this that are making me uncomfortable. Like the initial contact / reply to their inquiries is fine for me but its all the follow up stuff that requires a lot of work that makes me anxious / hesitant to connect with them - I've had some bad experiences in the past with customers and maybe that is in the back of my mind, or maybe its some kind of imposter syndrome?

How can I overcome this issue, is there some kind of self help method or something like meditation or something that can help me overcome these fears?

Obviously just dealing with it and slowly improving things as I go is an option but is there anything to make the initial steps easier?

Specific Business Careers for someone who thrives on psychology and creativity?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:05 PM PDT

I think this is marketing, but more specifically, i'm wondering what business careers are there for someone like me, who loves working on social, creative projects more involved with psychology rather than numbers. Like investing doesn't really involve psychology, but marketing clearly does. What are specific careers for this kind of work?

I was thinking advertising and real estate may be some specific examples?

P.S. I'm not really interested in HR

I desperately need some guidance about this. I am burnout and really worried of what's to come

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:11 AM PDT

I will try to keep it short. I am a son of the owner in this workplace. We're in a location where there's less crowd and there's only crowd on weekends. We own FOUR shops but now we have so much rental to pay and that's not the only thing I'm concerning about, there's stocks, groceries for F&B store, water bills, and much more. And worst of all, we're severely lacking in manpower.

Yes we did hire more staff but due to the lack manpower and owning four shops, we tend to give them more than just a job role they were promised. But eventually they left because of how stressful it is. I don't know what to do, sometimes we only give them the job role they were assigned to but they still leave.

F&B? No traffic, it's a waste of money to operate F&B at this place. How many company did not survive? If we didn't do F&B/ Ecommerce, or F&B/ Office/ Wholesale, we can't survive the rental and payroll. But again, if we are doing so many slash job scope, we aren't getting anywhere.

My strategy is simple. Retail wise should only accounts for 20% of our revenue. 80% should be ecommerce. For shopify, listing is #1, and the next is integration. But we can't fly, if our foundation isn't there.

And marketing has always been a slash job. Marketing/ logistics. Marketing/ Retail sales. I am recruiting with a limited amt of applicants. Our salary aren't high. Sales doesn't justify hiring just do F&B only.

Cut admin, marketing and all, then who do ecommerce listing? Who do logistic? Cannot hire f&b, no admin, no marketing, no logistic. No one to work at all?

I asked my HR to draft contract to tie people down, in the end, sent out 4, no reply. Even getting admin is hard.

I am doing admin, finance, everything. And I am barely able to do my work.

PLEASE.. i need some advice.. ANY ADVICE WILL DO. please?
